The Blue Boar Inn in Stratford-on-Avon

After a harrowing performance of Othello at the RSC the bar staff at the Blue Boar provided gentle sympathy and excellent Pinot Grigio. Food in the restaurant was well cooked and served by attentive waitresses . The room was comfortable, clean and the water was hot. Many thanks to Stephen for a delicious breakfast and good conversation. We look forward to staying at the Blue Boar again.

What a lovely experience. We were booked to a different hotel but after 2 nights of uncomfortable sleep we decided to spend our last night somewhere else. The Blue Boar exceeded our expectations. The room was lovely. Comfortable bed, with a lovely en-suite. The room had no windows other than roof windows but that was no problem at all. In fact the electric blinds made the room completely dark so an excellent nights sleep. We were there on a Sunday and had great entertainment with a local folk band. Truly a lovely pub with great accommodation.

I booked a two night stay with my sister it was amazing had a few problems at first but Stephen came to my rescue nothing was too much for him I will be going back in November breakfast was lovely would recommend a stay to anyone.

Another great meal at the Blue Boar. Came for a celebration lunch and had a lovely meal with great service from the friendly staff. Country pub dating back to the 1600's, provides a welcoming setting, with ample parking and easy access from A46. Becoming a firm favourite of ours.

Due to our normal hotel in Stratford-on-Avon being closed for some reason or other, my husband found this and booked us in for 3 nights. When will I learn and read the ratings! Overall, the place has a good rating but do check out the bad reviews. The place is situated away from the town and in the country in a stunning country setting and looks gorgeous. Can't fault it. The place has a well, covered by glass, lit and with three rather happy, chubby fish living their best lives in it. Decor is pleasing with interesting artifacts dotted around. The interior was spotlessly clean with plush carpet going up the stairs to the rooms, which boasted similar. The bathroom was well set out - again spotlessly clean - with immediate hot water and plenty of it. The shower was huge, a little slippery, but wonderful as when we stayed it was ridiculously hot and relentless weather. Sadly, no air conditioning in our room (12), and one window that opened out onto the carpark. Normally, not really a problem as after chucking out time, things are generally quite quiet. This is where it falls down: The picture, attached, shows a metal box with a fan - compressor? Who knows! However, all through the night it would cut in, run for a while then turn off, then turn on, off, on, off. We tried shutting the window but were too hot. It was impossible to open the curtain either as the carpark floodlight came into the room. You can also see on the picture that it was the staff have-a-ciggy point, directly below. This was also an issue with leaving the window open all day as neither of us smoke. If I had read the bad reviews, I would have discovered similar issues with this box. Clearly they are aware of this and nothing has been done. Maybe it is an integral part of their system and cannot be turned off, but it would have been nice to have been advised on this. Neither of us slept well for three days but if you take half a sheet of well toilet paper, this does work as reasonable ear plugs! Food: Breakfast was advertised with orange and apple juice, didn't see any apple and didn't want to ask as the staff on the first and third day didn't seem happy with their lot. The chap on the second day, tall and skinny, was delightful which made the third breakfast we had there seem doubly dour! The food that we had in the evening and during the day was exceptional. On our second evening we had a drink or two in the bar. The young chap who was serving us was doing fine then another one took over. We ordered a snack and my husband realised we had not been charged for the two drinks. After our snack, he went up and ordered an identical round, from the original, chirpy, young man, and mentioned he hadn't been charged so he paid double to clear the debt. Following morning, over breakfast, with loads of other people present, the other chap came up and loudly said that we hadn't paid for a round of drinks. I didn't find this very professional at all, considering he didn't apologise when my husband, equally loudly, corrected him. Years of working in similar hospitality situations, maybe I expect far too much of the industry. Superb place to visit to drink and dine. Not good if you are a light sleeper. Also, bin men come at 5.00 am! So tired! Avoid Room 12 and that side of the corridor.

Stayed here for one night on our way home from Cornwall. Hotel rooms were clean and well equipped, though bed was a little soft for our taste We had a lovely afternoon sitting in garden and we’re lucky enough to have a table in covered area outside for our evening meal. The menu is varied with plenty of choice - we ordered our food, and the waiters were very good at keeping us informed as to progress of food - there was a delay as a large group was in main dining room, and chef didn’t want our meals hanging around before being served so waited until staff available to serve. I thought this was very commendable and fun don’t worry us at all as we were enjoying the ambience. Once food arrived it was delicious and perfectly cooked and presented. Can recommend the fillet steak and the cheese board. Staff were very efficient friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them! Breakfast menu was limited- cereals, juice & variations on full English breakfast, which initially I was little concerned about as I do not like big breakfasts - but again the staff happy to accommodate and the simple egg, mushroom and bacon option I chose as a compromise was perfectly cooked and very tasty. We really enjoyed our one night stay here - a perfect end to our holiday.

A marvellous evening in a wonderful pub with friends. The menu is interesting and quite extensive and sensibly price.The ambiance is good and the place was buzzing .The service was cheery and helpful and slick and we had a fun time ..thankyou.

Went for dinner to The Blue Boar after a really busy day. We had prebooked a table for 3. Food was OK, except my Greek Salad arrived with no dressing. The wait between the starter and the first course was 80 minutes! I went to ask twice if they had forgotten us. I also had to ask if we could move tables as it was too cool to stay outside as the evening set in. When our food finally arrived it was fine, yet no apology from the staff and no one asked if our meal was OK. ( which I though was a legal requirement!) I felt ignored completely. I went to the bar to pay, as no bill came to the table. I told the barman I was holding back any tip due to long wait and poor service, his response was, I don't blame you. We spent our wedding night at this place, it has always been really special, but I was bitterly disappointed by the service last night. Not professional at all.

We spent 2 nights at The Blue Boar Inn. The staff were very friendly, helpful and relaxed. We ate dinner on two nights and found the menu was varied with plenty of choice. The meals we opted for on both nights were tasty, well presented and very enjoyable. The atmosphere in the restaurant was buzzing but allowed us to communicate easily with each other. Breakfast, likewise, was well cooked and enjoyable and served by pleasant staff. My only note of caution is that the stairs up to the bedrooms were very steep and if contemplating a stay here and guests have any kind of mobility issues it might be worthwhile seeking ground floor accommodation.

Beautiful old pub/hotel near Stratford upon Avon. Good menu choices including authentic Indian and pub favourites as well as a la carte. Service was superb nothing was too much trouble. Food was exceptional and presentation stunning. A live folk band was playing in the bar. Good music, not too loud. Would (and have) recommend this as the best pub experience in the area.

We have lunched there before so looked forward to returning. Lunch was till 2 p.m. and we arrived at 1.50. Just after another table was served, we were told the chef was not serving any more lunches as he had a big afternoon tea booking. We were astounded and had to leave. We crept out feeling like criminals, with everyone staring at us. When we left the car park there was no sign of the big booking. We shall never go there again.

We stayed here for an Easter weekend break. The room was nice, not luxury, but comfortable and above average. The staff were very helpful, although the service was a little slow. The food was excellent. Breakfast had a limited selection, but it was high quality and well prepared. Sundays roast was amazing. Generous portions, decent choices and excellent value. If we lived closer, this would become a regular Sunday venue. We would stay here again, although there is room for improvement with a few small tweaks that would really make it a great place to stay.

2nd Birthday visit with friends. Had an excellent meal experience with Stephen the head of house making us all feel welcome and in good humour. Staff were attentive but not excessive. Looking forward to our next visit to try the Indian menu.

I visited The Blue Boar with a friend for Sunday lunch and it was just excellent! I really liked the idea of a choice of either English or Indian menu, but being a Sunday, went for the Sunday roast. You have a choice of a one, two or three course lunch and I had a prawn cocktail for starter, followed by roast leg of lamb. It was faultless! I would thoroughly recommend The Blue Boar to anyone. Not only was the restaurant spotless, the staff were polite and efficient too. To the manager and all of the staff, well done and keep up the excellent work.

We have just returned home after an absolutely wonderful weekend away. Stephen made us feel extremely welcome and looked after us from the beginning to the end of our weekend away. The cooked breakfast was full of quality ingredients and extremely tasty. One of the best cooked breakfasts we have eaten out in a long time. Over all every member of staff was very friendly and attentive. We can’t wait to come back and visit again.

Superb curry. Butter chicken, chicken biryani, paneer tikka masala and chicken jalfrezi all absolutely excellent, fresh tasting, beautifully served with delicious fresh naan. Will definitely be returning. Congratulations to the team at Blue Boar.

Back at the Blue Boar for yet anther night. This place keeps improving each time we stay there (once a month approximately). Is it perfect? not quite but if you like Indian food, you can't go wrong though the English items on the menu are not quite up to the same standard. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Breakfast is much improved and is more than adequate for the day. We were served by the ever-present Steve and he makes the whole experience that much better with his sense of humour and willingness to make sure you leave happy and smiling. Would I go again? Definitely.

This was our first visit to the pub. There was an offer of a free bottle of house wine with every reservation, but we felt we had to ask and explain to the staff about their offer, rather than it being offered or it being on the table when we arrived. The staff were pleasant and very formal. They had obviously been trained well, but there was no ‘banter’ as such and the atmosphere in the place seemed a little awkward and strained. I can’t really explain it but I know it was not just me who felt this way. The food was okay and nicely presented, but seemed to lack flavour and was a little dry. Perhaps been under a heat lamp a little too long? A pleasant enough experience though.

Excellent service from friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price in a clean well maintained establishment

I stayed overnight, my room was just grand for the rate I paid. It was a little chilly, but there was a plug in heater. The blind was not quite long enough and left a small gap at the bottom, which let in the lights from outside, which were turned off after midnight! There are a few small issues that can be easily rectified… the extractor fan is very dirty, get some curtains over the window which will help with the warmth and the light issue. The walls are thin. Be warned!! There was a band playing/practicing in the bar which was nice to hear especially for a Monday night. I met a friend for dinner in the restaurant and we had a nice meal, attentive staff. Breakfast was tasty although the beans were somehow crispy… either too long under a heat lamp or in the microwave?

Our room / shower room great Bed linen / mattress very clean. Breakfast good.what was not told to us was they were under going work .to improve.elec cables running up the stairs no safety notice nothing over said cable's rotton floor boards going up to our room oh and a very greasy not nice winged chair in our room.not for disabled persons.

We stayed here with our dog overnight,the staff are very friendly and professional,the room was immaculate and very comfortable. We couldn't fault the blue boar and would certainly stay again if we are in the area

We have been coming to this restaurant as a ladies' group for a few months now. The chairs were a problem but now they have upgraded them and new tables and they are perfect for having an enjoyable meal. The service is excellent. Stefan and Wilfred are both attentive and nothing is too much trouble. We requested that scampi be put back on the menu and it was. Lovely variety of Indian dishes and pub classics. Prices have gone up across all establishments but feel the prices here are just slightly above average but the quality of food and size of portions is good. Highly recommended. If you have been before then now it's had an upgrade you should try again.

Staff were great, rooms generally clean. Room was compact and the bed was small (only a double) and the mattress was like sleeping on a lumpy blancmange. Hardly slept as more worried about falling out of bed. The hotel is set on a crossroad and unfortunately the boy racers were making full use of the road, not the fault of the hotel but it does disturb your sleep, if your lucky enough to get any. Breakfast, the continental selection was very poor and the cooked breakfast was again poor, having said that the quality of the bacon and sausage was good. Overall value for money, on our trip to the Cotswolds we have stayed at 3 hotels, this was the most expensive venue and yet the least value for money

Very disappointed with the meal, quality of food was not great and felt it was not freshly cooked. Place needs updating chairs were ready for the bin . It’s a shame as it’s a lovely looking pub with friendly staff . But will not return.

Our Pary of 6 men have frequented the Blue Boar for a number of years and allways been satisfied. Due to poor health, there has been a break of several months. We decided to re visit and this time to bring our good Wives. I booked a table for 18.30 on Friday 28th April for 6 people. The menu had substantially changed / reduced and the prices had substantially increased. Our bill came to over £194 pounds which we felt was excessive. Whilst the limited choice of food served was OK, the portions were small. The seats were not comfortable, in fact they do need to be re cushioned urgently. The whole experience was most dissapointing particularly as this time we invited our Wives. We would have to be assured of major improvments in all aspects if we are to return.

Accumulation of small things that made for a disappointing family meal out.  We live locally and have come to the Blue Boar lots of times before, though not for a while.  Compared to previous experiences, the food now seems over-priced for what you get. The quality is ok but portions are smaller than you'd expect.  The bread and olives are horrendously over-priced. Kids meals do not include ice-cream/dessert which is pretty standard in other places for the price charged. Not everything was available but we weren't told till after ordering.  The waitress had to come back twice to tell us that the desserts we had picked (both first and second choices) weren't available.  Table height was slightly too high to be comfortable and the dining chairs dip in the middle making it worse, especially for smaller diners. Waiting staff were polite and friendly but, all in all, this did not live up to expectations. There are plenty of other pub restaurants locally that offer great quality at better value for money.

The photos don't do this pub justice, it is much nicer. The new food menu is more expensive but the food is so good! The quality and quantity is fantastic. I had the fillet which was cooked perfectly. The wine is priced well and decent quality also. Lovely staff

My wife and I visited the Blue Boar for afternoon tea today. What an experience. Wilfred is a class act, and made the whole occasion perfect. Attentive, polite, informative. Just a nice guy, with a lovely personality. You don't get this sort of experience very much at all these days. So nice to see. It was a pleasure from start to finish. We'll certainly be back!

Nos alojamos aquí por una noche cuando estábamos visitando a una familia cercana y pensamos que pasaríamos un fin de semana. La habitación era bastante espaciosa y, en general, estaba limpia en general, estábamos por encima de la puerta principal y era sorprendentemente tranquila, pero tal vez debido a una noche de tormenta no tan concurrida como de costumbre. Un poco anticuadas, algunas mejoras podrían ser fáciles, como mejores lámparas de noche, ya que la iluminación era un poco tenue y sombría, las toallas más nuevas y más de ellas habrían sido buenas y las cortinas ligeramente más ajustadas. No se pudo entender por qué había una ducha sobre la bañera más un accesorio de ducha en la bañera: parece que la ducha empotrada no se calienta, por lo que la ducha de mano resultó en agua en todas partes. No hay secador de pelo. El principal punto negativo fue el código WiFi colocado en todas partes de la habitación, pero TIENES que tener una cuenta de Facebook para usar el wifi, lo cual es un poco ridículo. No recomendaría este lugar para personas mayores o personas que no son buenas para subir un tramo estrecho de escaleras que se encrespan a las habitaciones y muchos pisos y escalones irregulares, etc. Desayuno incluido pero no hay nada que destacar, no atienden a ningún especial requisitos dietéticos, llamados una semana antes para ver cómo obtener un desayuno no lácteo y avisaron que no proporcionan leche de soya, etc., que era un poco anticuado e inesperado en estos días. El desayuno preparado se sacó rápidamente, pero se usaron ingredientes muy baratos y no se nos preguntó cómo queríamos huevos, etc., todo se colocó en un plato de gran tamaño, lo que lo hizo parecer un poco triste. Las mini cajas de cereal y té, café y jugo de naranja barato, pero sin una nevera en la habitación, no podían comprar leche de soja para mantenerla fría, por lo que no podían tomarla. El camarero en el desayuno era un poco intrusivo quejándose de los teléfonos móviles (éramos los únicos allí y estaban en silencio) mientras estábamos tratando de planificar dónde ir para el día. An absolutely fantastic meal. Service excellent. Food outstanding. Atmosphere as always very welcoming.

Lovely country pub, friendly staff, and great food. We only wanted a bit of lunch and decided to share a club sandwich with a portion of chips. It was truly superb. We will be back to eat here again!!

Probably the worst Sunday lunch we have ever had. Came to watch rugby, sat in the bar. Waiter taking our order was very sarcastic - borderline offensive - making a joke about if I was going to eat both the Sunday lunches ordered. To top this off he then forgot to put any cutlery on our table, so that when the food arrived it took them a solid 5 minutes to find the cutlery whilst we were left staring at our food. If you are going to try to be funny at least make sure you can perform the basics of your job! The beef was cooked well done and was extremely tough - don’t know why we weren’t given the option of pink or well done?! Pretty much every establishment in Stratford gives this option. Vegetables tasted like they were all frozen and were tasteless. No check back. Waitress that cleared the table opened with the question. - would you like a dessert menu? She didn’t even bother to ask how was everything. We both regretted spending the money as could have cooked at home for a quarter of the price and ten times the quality!! If you want a decent meal I would AVOID.

We booked for lunch one Saturday having been past a few times. It is a really nice rustic old inn with a good sized terrace outside. They have a good, varied menu and the standard of food we had was very good. Very friendly and efficient staff, and good space between tables. Will definitely come again.

The restuarant /pub is well worth a visit .the food is very good .I recommend the sirloin steak .the service is good too .we went back the following night . It's best to book your table .

Had a family Sunday lunch and it was very busy, a good sign. However, when one of my party ordered the sea bass and it arrived with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes ! Very weird. No new potatoes were available and there was no response as to why they served up a Yorkshire pudding with a fish dish! Other meals were fine though to be honest. Nice but weird.

We decided to try the Blue Boar Inn for an evening meal after being told the food and atmosphere was very good. We were not disappointed. The waiting on staff were very attentive and polite. Our whole experience was excellent.

Saw the sign from the main road, so took the slight diversion down to the pub on our way home. Very pleased we did, friendly staff and very comfortable. The steak and onion pie was delicious as was the scampi and very good value.

This review is repeated in the hotel section. The roast beef and veg were cooked nicely enough but all three dishes were luke warm. It meant I didnt enjoy mine. The deserts took an age to come . Pleasant staff

Agradable pub de estilo antiguo fuera de Stratford. El personal es amable. Teníamos 2 carnes asadas y 1 plato de pescado. La comida estaba bien presentada, las verduras estaban bien preparadas, se veían frescas y la carne era encantadora, el pudín de Yorkshire habitual. Sin embargo, todos los platos estaban tibios, lo que ciertamente significaba que no disfrutaba los míos. No estaba ocupado, así que no pude ver ninguna excusa. los desiertos tardaron años en llegar: ¿se estaba descongelando el pudin de pan? ?

Such a lovely place, we went for Sunday lunch our meal was excellent and the staff were very pleasant, shall definitely go back and highly recommend.

Solo una observación sobre lo difícil que está trabajando el personal aquí. Es temprano en la noche del sábado y parece que el mundo ha descendido en nuestro local. Me encanta esto ya que siempre quiero verlo ocupado. Esta noche, hay un nuevo chico que no tiene la edad suficiente para servir, por lo que el personal puede reducir su trabajo enseñándole mientras atiende a los clientes.

Nos alojamos aquí por unos días, a finales de mayo / junio lo pasamos muy bien, la comida fue fantástica cortada en platos calientes. ? Tiene un jardín en el que podíamos sentarnos ya que el clima era cálido. Por la noche todo el pub está iluminado con pequeñas luces, muy bonito.

El jueves 25 de abril, 19 de abril, mi esposo y yo fuimos a cenar a "The Blue Boar Inn". Esta fue nuestra primera visita aquí y no nos decepcionó. El Blue Boar Inn es una hermosa casa de campo construida en piedra. Nos recibió la Katy, y luego nos llevaron a nuestra mesa reservada, y luego nos dieron menús para mirar, de modo que pudiéramos tomar nuestras decisiones para la cena.

We had a fabulous meal yesterday with great service. Good old comfort food with a couple of quality beers - absolutely made for an amazing evening with family and friends. Thank you

¡Absolutamente fantástico, este lugar ha mejorado enormemente en ser muy bueno! Reservamos una mesa para 6 personas y cuando llegamos estaba lleno, el aparcamiento estaba lleno. Pero todo transcurrió sin problemas, sin personal desconcertante, todo un servicio tranquilo y excelente en todo momento. La comida fue fabulosa, desde la elección hasta la presentación y el sabor real, este chef sabe lo que están haciendo y lo tienen correcto, por lo tanto, por qué estaba lleno. Nos quedamos maravillados con la comida que salía de la cocina ya que se veía fabulosa, los postres. . . . . la tabla de quesos después de la cena era para morirse. . . . . ¡Pero estábamos demasiado llenos para eso! Entre todos, todos pedimos entrantes diferentes y diferentes platos principales y fue como si fuera la primera comida fuera de la cocina, caliente, fresca y muy sabrosa, los entrantes fueron tan buenos como los siguientes cursos.
