Me and my friend went to The Blue Ball Inn for our lunch and the food was lovely and very good value for money, two meals for £15 and plenty on the plate,a lot of the food is home made and this tells when you taste it,we didn't plan on having a dessert but we did and we are so glad as they were delicious, there is plenty of choice on the menu and the staff are very nice. The landlord is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome and that in turn makes the atmosphere in the pub very relaxed and pleasant, they also offer a carvery on a sunday which we definately intend to try.We will go back again and again and recommend it to anyone wanting a lovely meal in nice surroundings

Tuesday 9th July 2024 Today, I was fortunate enough to come to this grand virtually unspoilt pub/ale house and farm from the 1600s This pub has a labyrinth of little rooms, a jug and bottle counter, and 2 bars. It's a really nice landlady, and the local following is good. There is 3 good beers on and they are all well kept This is a place all real ale drinkers should make for when drinking in Maltons town centre

Haven't been here for over a year but now it seems a bit stabilized we thought we would give it another try. We were greeted with Tony the new landlord and made to feel very welcome. We ordered two lunch time meals, two for £15 and enjoyed it . I had the home made meat and potato pie, not forgetting the relish, lovely. Yes we will be going again , keep up the good work.

After passing this pub many times we called in for Saturday lunch and got a lovely surprise. As soon as you walk in the door you get the country pub atmosphere with the friendly landlord and staff making you feel welcome and comfortable. The menu is not massive but the food they serve is fresh and delicious all at a very reasonable price and served quickly and courteously. Everywhere is clean and tidy and the toilets were immaculate as were the gigantic car park and outside eating area. If you are passing please call in and experience this place for yourself I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Most importantly, this pub serves great ale. You never fail to get a perfect pint of Landlord here. The food portions, as others have mentioned, are massive. Whale and chips are particularly good value and always great and tremendous value for money. Finally, again as oft mentioned, the building is great and the landlady is a real character. Thoroughly recommended.

Had high hopes having recently renovated The menu Was basic pub food and not done very well. Frozen food at inflated prices and the landlord one of the most obnoxious people ever met. Horrible man. The atmosphere was like an 80’s working men’s club just not fitting with the area. Was expecting a good home cooked meal, instead got a pile of frozen trash. The worst Do not waste your money.

We recently revisited this pub after some three years or so due to some very ordinary experiences. I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised at the improvements made. There are new furnishings, decoration changes and a different menu. My wife and I went for the 2 for a tenner menu and found the portions sufficient for our needs and the food cooked beautifully (real mash). There is a wide assortment of beers and spirits all served in a very clean environment. For those who have stayed away over the last few years I suggest you rediscover this pub and hopefully, it will soon be getting the trade it deserves. We will certainly be back!

This is the best pub, the best beer and the best food in Malton. This pub should be the food capital as the rest of Malton is pedestrian and slightly snobby at time, though I fail to see why?) apart from monthly markets which are great. I see someone turned up late for food. What a shame. Even kitchen staff have to have a break. Turn up on time and you will not be disappointed. Please don't expect haut cuisine but by God it is good. This is good much more than basic substantial food from Yorkshire.

DISGUSTED!! If the rating system would allow this would be minus5* Booked a table for 7pm on a Tuesday evening on the recommendation of friends. Travelled from Scarborough to Malton but arrived at 3 minutes past. Yes that is 7.03 for a 7pm booking to be told in no uncertain terms that the kitchen was closed and the chef had gone home. All other diners had arrived early so that was it. The place was not full by any means and the sign outside was still advertising food. There are a number of questions here. What happened to customer service? Why did no one ring us if they thought we where a no show? Having worked in hospitality for many years there is absolutely no way that a kitchen can be closed and completely COVID 19 cleaned in the 3 minutes from our booked time to our arrival time. Which begs the next question of just how high, or low are their hygiene standards? In these current Covid times when businesses are crying out for customers and income this pub obviously is the exception as they can turn away custom without a second thought. On the way out of the pub we meet a group of visitors looking for somewhere to eat needless to say we sent them in the direction of a more friendly establishment.

After the refurbishment I'm a bit disappointed with the place. It reminds me utterly of a wetherspoons, the country pub charm completely wiped out. It's a shame as it use to be a pub with a bit of character. The landlord (not to be confused with the manager) is very rude. Him and his mates are very rowdy, takes away from the family feel. We were disappointed to be shouted at across the Pub when we brought our dog in, very rude the way we were spoke too. We live 30 minutes away and had come to see friends. We were shouted at that there's a sign above the door. High up on the beams several feet too high for an average size person to naturally see. Forced to sit in a cold small room completely isolated from every other person in the pub. Valued this pub on it's family and dog friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't say this pub is dog friendly. I would say it's "token gesture", can't even get into the bar area with a dog. I wouldn't choose to come back after the refurbishment. With the basic Wetherspoon look and the lack of dog friendly bar space this pub doesn't stand out from any other. I'll stay closer to home where 4 legged family are better off and the atmosphere is more lifted.

We came here as a family group of 6, majority of our group ordered rib eye steaks which were cheap rump when they came, and one which was obviously a rip eye which put the rest to shame. Asked for a plain burger (without the cheese) however they had forgotten cooked with cheese etc, apologised and have the food to a random customer while i waited while everyone ate there meal for a new burger to be cooked. While in the meanwhile orders drinks, which yet again one of drinks had been forgotten about. When my burger arrived, i couldn't complain as it was nice, however the service and the other meals weren't up to standard Used to be a good place for a decent pub meal, bit came away feeling disappointed.
