We had a lovely dinner of fish and chips and the bass fillet. It was excellent. There was just a tiny twist that made it extra scrumptious. Would come back.

We want to say big thank you how we was treat today. Food was nice, lots of meat on. We are feel welcome and staff was lovely.

Four of us had a very pleasant evening in the very comfortable and atmospheric setting at the Blue Ball. We went there specifically to try out the Indian cuisine. We tried the fish pakora, courgette bhaji and veg samosas for starters, these were all delicious. Mains dishes of butter chicken, lamb karahi and chicken shashlik were very flavoursome with just the right amount of heat. Would have loved the lamb biryani, sadly it was off the menu that night - next time. We noted that curry night is on the 1st Tuesday of every month, might just make that a regular event!

Popped in for a drink on Saturday and to see if there was a chance of booking a table for Sunday. The return trip was an amazing experience both with hospitality and food. Everything from roast dinner to Indian. Waddled back to our accommodation and unable to eat or drink anything else that evening. Dog friendly pub too

So glad we found this lovely place. The staff were all great, the food delicious and the portion sizes (almost) a bit too healthy (big) ;-) the building had such character also. Have already recommended

Sunday lunch for family birthday. We all had the roast, all were excellent! It has been SO long since I have had a pub roast that I really enjoyed and The Blue Ball absolutely nailed it. The desserts were also excellent and all food very reasonably priced. Lovely traditional pub in a beautiful village. Great atmosphere and friendly, helpful, attentive staff. Cannot fault it one bit. 5 stars all round.

Unfortunately we came back because it was good when we came a couple of years ago and it was totally different. We booked for a very early Sunday lunch and all had a roast because we wanted to be quick as we had a long drive but unfortunately it was over an hour and no food arrived so we had to chase them ( and no apology offered). When food arrived they gave a standard meal to someone who'd ordered one suitable for a food intolerance, thankfully because it had a Yorkshire pudding on it was obvious but even when asked they seemed so uncaring and too relaxed about whether it was an intolerant friendly meal. If it had been coeliac, having a Yorkshire pudding on top just wouldn't have been ok.

We hadn't been to The Blue Ball in Braunton in Rutland for a couple of years, but after some locals raved about the Sunday lunch under new ownership, we decided to give it another go. We're so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic – friendly, attentive and efficient. We were delighted to find our favourite table was still in the same spot, and with the fire roaring away, it made for a wonderfully cosy return. The Sunday lunch itself was absolutely delicious. Huge portions of proper, home-cooked food which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour. It was clear the new owners are doing something right. We had a lovely, relaxed lunch and will definitely be back again soon. Highly recommended!

Just had lunch here (Saturday) at The Blue Ball, for the first time, and will definitely be returning. 6 of us took a large table in the front bar area. The staff were just excellent. They were quite busy (at least another 4 or 5 tables of 4 or more people eating) but the staff remained very attentive. Food was excellent, a great mixture of pub classics and Indian dishes. I personally had the samosa starters and lamb shank biryani and it was all excellent. Good beer and wine selection and a very relaxing lunch catching up. We didn't feel rushed and the atmosphere was very good (later in the afternoon a large group came in for drinks and great to see local pub supported). Would recommend.

Just taken my Cousin to lunch here. The quality and presentation of the food was first class and the portion size excellent. The service was also polite and attentive. I give four stars for atmosphere because we were there early lunch time and there were not many customers in so it felt a little empty but the fabric of the pub was excellent, with an open fire which felt very good on a cold day.

We all had are lovely xmas dinner there to day very generous portions and the service was perfect 7 diffinrant vegtables and meats where so tender and the puddings where very nice.

Fabulous Xmas dinner today, first time at this pub but definitely not last for this group of ten. The portions were impressive, the quality was fantastic and absolutely everyone loved it, including me, the veggie of the group. Thank you so much for a memorable Xmas lunch! Highly recommended, including great service.

We visited for a birthday party few weeks ago and it was fabulous! The pub itself is traditional and cosy with fireplaces, low ceilings and comfortable seats. The staff was really attentive and accommodating and the food was equally great! I would definitely recommend the burgers and the fish and chips, but also the curry dishes. We will definitely return!

First visit to this lovely looking pub however, I’m sorry to say we found the “traditional pub fayre” to be very disappointing. The steak pie was basically mincemeat (I had just one chunk of meat in it) and probably bought from a supermarket, the chips were greasy but the one half carrot was nice. Other members of our party thought their meal choices were also very poor. The service was ok just felt the traditional side of the menu is very lacking in quality and content. Think the rave reviews this establishment has received must be centred around the many curry dishes, great if you’re a curry fan I guess.

Lovely pub with friendly staff and great food.

So glad I stumbled across this place. We booked for a family get together, 27 people for dinner, we pre ordered and had our private area. The food was excellent, every dish was hot and tasty. The chef (s) took great pride in plating up. Nothing was ever too much trouble by all staff members. Well done guys! Definitely recommend.

Really eager to return - shame we don’t live close by. We had a family gathering and the staff were so accommodating, great friendly service. Lasagne was top notch but after seeing the other dishes come out I had bad food envy!

Amazing customer service with a friendly smile. The restaurant manager is super welcoming and a great host. Highly recommend if you are looking for a bite to eat. First Tuesday of every month it's curry night and this place does not disappoint, well worth the visit.

Incredible food, very relaxed atmosphere. The menu is amazing and will definitely be returning. There is something for everyone, I love the Punjabi influence on some of the pub classics. I had the lamb burger, which comes with onion bhaji and chef’s mint mayo. Never tried that combination of flavour before but it works so well!!

Travelling and stayed nearby. Great find, some of the best food we have ever had. Menu was so good, hard to choose one thing. Asked for the most popular thing on the menu, chicken sashlick. So good, portion was great. Starter was good. Too full for pudding but again a great selection, wish we were locals. Great service from the staff.

What a gem this pub is, the food was amazing and the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. The place itself is a traditional county pub and provides a great atmosphere. We had the bhaji and lamb kebab starters followed by the curry of the day (butter chicken) and fish a chips. All the food was delicious! We are from Yorkshire and very picky with our Curry’s and this was up there with the best. Thank you for a lovely meal, we would definitely return if we are in the area again.

Wow. Went to The Blue Ball for the first time today. I can't speak highly enough of the food and the beautiful country pub. Ordinary dishes are elevated into something special but luckily the price isn't. The dog was welcomed and was even given a treat 😊 The team were super nice and friendly. I could sense a real pride in the pub and the food. Definitely worth the trip

Incredibly tasty food - some Asian inspired. We had a mix of food amongst the four of us. Pizza, burgers, lasagne and a chicken kebab dish. All delicious… little bit of a wait while they were cooked but well worth waiting for. It’s a meeting point with friends so we will definitely be back. I would even travel the 1 hour + for an evening meal it was so good ..

Booked for a good sized family birthday celebration. Good table was ready for us and we were served with drinks and our orders taken by seemingly capable wait staff. There were a couple of the supporting items missing from the starters which when asked for were simply stated as out of stock. Bit poor when the Co-op locally could have rectified the situation if anyone had bothered. It is a bit galling that the kitchen thought it OK to just serve dishes with deficiencies and not warn the clients before presenting the plate. Two of the main courses when served were completely wrong. This despite having read back the orders to check prior to sending the request to the kitchen. One meal was replaced as ordered after a 15+ minute wait. The other was not able to to be produced as there was no more of the main ingredient. It is ironic that we had gathered here from across the country many of us staying in a hotel 20 minutes away. Our deciding factor on choosing our venue was that the particular dish was available being a favourite of the host. Despite the fairly modest reduction to the bill it was all a bit of a cooler. Don't get me wrong the staff front of house were doing their best, very polite and attentive but badly let down by poor stock management and careless attention in the kitchen. Appreciated the gift of an individual chocolate brownie birthday pud with sparkler to mark our event.

We went to The Blue Ball yesterday for a family meal and it was brilliant. Apparently it's the oldest pub in Rutland so has a lot of character and charm. They serve a good selection of drinks and the service was very welcoming. The food was delicious. I shared a baked camembert (which was one of the best I've had) and had the lamb Karahi for main which was also excellent. There is also a lovely beer garden to the front which would be a great place to sit and have a pint in the sun. If we didn't live in London we would definitely be coming here again! Thanks Blue Ball for a lovely meal.

Lovely old pub in small village, just 10 minutes from Oakham. Went for midweek lunch. Food an indian/pub fusion. Lots of choice. Spoilt for choice on both starters and mains All were good quality, quantity and price. We went without desserts which surprisingly were standard fare, and bit expensive for that. Just marked down as service,though friendly, was slow, (only 1 person serving,who sometimes went awol) Would recommend and will visit again when in the area

What a gem of a pub. 17th Century country pub with unexpected culinary delights. My wife and I dined here on our way home from a weekend away. And what a great choice to make. Serving Timothy Raylor Landord Pale Ale was an instant hit. My favourite ale 🍺 We were going to have a roast, but i decided on the Lamb on Bone Karahi, and my wife had the Punjabi Lamb burger with onion bhaji. Upon seeing the roasts being served to other guests, we quickly had food envy, thinking we made the wrong choice. However, the Karahi was simply mouthwatering good. Full of flavour and tender. Good enough to grace the finest Indian restaurant. My wife's burger was equally tasty. The onion bhaji was sensational. The service was excellent. Very welcoming and friendly. If it wasn't 2 hours from me, I'd go regularly. Thoroughly recommended, whichever choice of dish you choose.

The food was excellent, a party of 15, reserved a table, set up 6 tables on the outside side terrace, most had different meals, everyone said their food was great, the service was great based on the number of people they had to accommodate, they did a great job, very friendly staff, had a great time, definitely will return.

Very cute pub - super grateful that they were able to accommodate 12 people under white short notice on a weekend! Had the pork belly which was slightly on the tougher side in my opinion but was well seasoned! The interior is beautiful and there’s a nice outdoor terrace/garden too!

Great food in lovely surroundings with very friendly staff whats not to like! It’s our first time here and we will definitely be coming back soon.

Have Sunday roast after a family outing in a nearby water park. The host is fantastic! He enthusiastically to tell the history and stories of this historical house , and shows his interest in all customer’s questions. It is a cozy but lively restaurant , it offers a wide range of beer and alcohol. It welcomes couples or family gathering ,pets and children friendly. We start with mushroom soup, it is very creamy and fill our stomach warm right away. The Trio-roast is a must, big enough for two to share. Pork belly is full of flavor, mouth watering sirloin cooked just right, chicken is a bit dry but acceptable. Yorkshire pudding with gravy keeps you eating. We didn’t have dessert ‘cause we are too full after eating the whole plate. But it offers a well selected dessert menu for whom like sweet.

What amazing dinner. A huge thank you to gentlemen who took fantastic care of us from start to finish. Nothing was to much trouble even between serving other customers at the bar. The food was stunning, very fresh, tasty and beautiful presentation. From the Steak, Chicken Supreme, Fish Pie to the Venison, all dishes were cooked exceptionally. To end a prefect evening, the chef came to say hello which means a lot when so busy. Thank you again for a perfect Birthday dinner.

Lovely food and super service great pub!

Such tasty delicious food in a beautiful pub restaurant. The staff are very welcoming, friendly attentive and go above and beyond to make sure you get the best dining experience which you do not find nowadays in many places! We eat out a lot and this is by far the best meal we have had in a long time. We also came in December and it was absolutely delicious then too. Good quality wine. We would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant/ pub.

Wasn't a bad food and the service was good but felt like we hadn't quite got the quality of food that we were expecting from how it read on the menu.

First time back with new owners and pleased to say we had a fab meal. Good atmosphere and really interesting traditional menu with Indian hints. My wife and I had very different choices and really enjoyed both meals. Will be back

Very mixed review, party of 10 for Sunday Lunch, some meals were excellent for example Pizza, Fish and Chips and Burger but the Roast Beef was inedible. The room was cold and some meals arrived 5 minutes or more before others. The Team however were really attentive.

Perfectly pleasant pub, but pricey. Didn't eat, but others were eating and it looked fine. Six drinks (three soft drinks and three alcoholic ones) came to £29.50.

Today was the second time we have visited and we were not disappointed. Delicious food both times (roast dinner & Curry of the day a must try) We were also a table of 11 today including 3 children and their food was also great and tasty. Service great and also very friendly. I would highly recommend visiting and we will be back again.

Sunday lunch last week for 7. Must have been an off day, had to wait about an hour before food arrived, then two dishes arrived about five minutes before the rest( this is after going to ask where the food was). Beef was chewy and not nice. My pork dinner was not as described on menu (slow oven cooked) it was thin pork steaks like cardboard. Had to again ask for plates to be removed and sweet menu.the cheesecake came out eventually still frozen but it was changed straight away for another sweet but just not what you expect looking at previous reviews. Very disappointing.

The people were nice & friendly but the food was appalling and inedible. We had Sunday lunch but what a disappointment you could not cut through the beef if was sooo tough! Never again.

The food was amazing. An Indian twist to pub grub made it worth waiting a little longer for it. The place is clean and inviting. I wish it was my local.

Really lovely pub, with great food. Slight mix up with one of the sides. But was sorted. If you’re in one of the side rooms I think you’re tended to less, hence one 4 ✨ otherwise Great choice, and the Sunday dinner was delicious. Highly recommend & would visit again.

Met our son yesterday for lunch as our usual venue in Hallaton has closed. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks very attentive staff. We dined on a sunny day on the beautiful patio area which was immaculately clean and furnished. Our dog was welcome which is very important to me. We will return.

A lovely meal for three today at the Blue Ball. Sat outside on the terrace in the sun. A selection of three ales on tap and other beers plus a really good menu. Two of us had the steak pie which was really good whilst another had a lighter lunch of just a starter. The staff were really excellent but it was very quiet whilst we were there. Hopefully it's busier at other times because we'd like to come back for the Punjabi lamb burger...

Came in on Sunday while visiting Rutland to meet friends. They brought me to the blue ball for a Sunday roast. Lovely welcome and managed squeeze us in. Had the roast beef which was lovely! Definitely recommend and will be returning when I'm back visiting.

Sunday lunch for 3 today. We all had a different choice (beef, chicken and pork) and couldn’t fault any of it. The food was tasty, well cooked and portion size was enough for any healthy appetite. Extra gravy! Service was efficient and we all enjoyed our food in lovely surroundings. We will return, a good Sunday dinner is not that easy to come by.

We visited this pretty Inn on a Sunday. Nobody was in charge and there was no welcome although staff were pleasant. Food arrived within a reasonable time but in one of the dishes the chicken was not cooked; the chef was apologetic and we were not charged for it and we were offered more food which we declined. There was a flurry of people between 12 and 1 but the place was quite empty. We had very nice coffee but served in dirty cups which the waitress said were stained, and all the same, so made no effort to clean them for us. For 4 of us with two courses and one drink each, the bill was over £110. The prices far outweighed the quality of service, the standard of food and the general attention to detail. I'm afraid I can't recommend the Blue Ball and would not go back. Sorry Blue Ball. You need to improve your standards if you want a busy, lively and thriving pub.

Revisited today,almost a year to the day. My food arrived cold and overcooked! However it was replaced with sincere apologies and offered a free sweet and drink. This has not put me off returning. Thanks
