The Blathwayt Arms in Bath and North East Somerset

We have come to the Charlcombe Inn for a number of years. We love the food and staff are very friendly. Portion sizes are excellent and there's always a great menu with tasty food. One of our favourite pubs!

Travel this road fairly regularly and often pop in. Not as often as I used to, largely due to little to no menu change. If Im late and not alone the Wednesday fish n chip is great but I don't need to see the menu any more 'cos it's always the same. I'd hoped when it became more open to overnighters in their motel style rooms the dinner offerings would upgrade a little.

Meal before Rugby 🏉 match. Our friends came along as our guests, so before the match we had a most enjoyable lunch at The Charlcombe Inn. Pie veg and potatoes, baguette filled with beef, veg and fries ,vegetarian burger and fries, all swilled down with non alcohol beers and ciders. These meals were very reasonably priced, the staff were very helpful and friendly, always able to answer any queries that you have. Would love to return at a later date for maybe a Sunday lunch.

Very disappointed with Sunday lunch, we both had the so say 28 day matured topside beef which was tough, fatty and chewy. We did complain and 10% was deducted from the bill which is neither here or there. Portions also vary small, not our first visit, but certainly the last Sunday lunch we order.

Stayed for one night,excellent service provided from start to finish. Room in courtyard was clean warm and inviting. Evening meal was good value and tasty, breakfast was plentiful and again tasty. Throughout our stay the staff were friendly helpful and knowledgeable. Will stay again if we’re ever going back that way

We have just been for the Sunday lunch. The service was somewhat lacking. The roast dinners weren't up to scratch. We like el dente, but the broccoli could have been used in a brick wall. The roast potatoes were obviously just reheated, rubbery on the outside, and dry in the middle. The beef was very chewy and was very difficult to cut. My husband had the pork, and it was really nice. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day, but I certainly won't be eating there again.

We stayed here for one night, arriving at 8.30pm. We were checked in without issue. The room was beautifully decorated to a high standard and had a fabulous tiled bathroom with the most amazing shower, instant hot water, plus lovely smelling shower gel. We had to leave before breakfast was served, so they kindly provided us with cereal to have in our room (along with the tea, coffee and hot chocolate that is provided anyway) which was much appreciated. The location was superb too as it was walking distance to the park and ride into the city. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Bath again.

Visited for Sunday lunch with family. Plenty of attentive staff. Good food. Good location near Bath Racecourse. Interesting maps and posters on the wall.

Loved this place. A few km out of Bath, so suits those with a car. Quaint building that backs onto racetrack, but clean, modern facilities in the rooms. Super friendly staff and a lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend this place.

We had an excellent meal. The service was good and the children enjoyed playing in the garden. I would recommend this as a great family friendly pub.

We stayed overnight and had the breakfast before booking out. A* . Very plentiful. Fruit, cereal, yogurts, juices etc and then I had full English and my daughter had Pancakes and Maple syrup. She asked for no streaky bacon as she is a vegetarian and she loved the pancakes. I am a fussy person about my breakfast and I asked for my bacon, sausage and mushrooms to be well done/on the crispy side and it arrived exactly as I would have cooked it. The bacon was a lovely back bacon, very tasty, good quality sausage, mushrooms were just how I like them, baked beans, egg, and two home cooked hash browns. I did let my daughter have one of the hash browns and she agreed they were cooked really nicely. Nothing was greasy and the service was great During our stay all the staff we dealt with were extremely helpful and cheery, despite the place being really busy

We stayed at the Charlcombe inn for two nights as we were visiting Bath. The room was lovely and clean. So spacious and the bed was very comfy. The shower was an amazing power shower and very nice. We had breakfast included in our stay. We also ate there evening meal on both nights. The staff at the Charlcombe inn were fantastic and were very attentive. The food was really flavourful. I had the fish and chips which were lovely and crispy and the fish buttery and soft. All the food was brilliant. The breakfast included was lovely, good portions and very tasty. 100% would recommend and come back. The views of the Bath racecourse were lovely.

As a local to Lansdown my wife I thought we would revisit the Charlcombe Inn , having not been there for a couple of years. All we wanted was a pint and fish and chips. What was put in front of us, for the not inconsiderable price of £17, was the smallest bit of fish I have ever been served for this meal, it was so parsimonious, I asked the waiter whether we had been served the small portion by mistake. He never came back to clarify but I know what I asked for and what I paid for. As we left, I raised the issue with the manager but he also gave me the impression he couldn't have cared less. All in all, an extremely disappointing performance in a pub that should have everything going for it ! I doubt we will be back until the pub serves a realistic plate of food for the price charged.

We've been coming to Charlcombe for many years, meals or just a drink. Friendly staff and is dog friendly in the bar area. Last visit was for Fathers day lunch. We ordered sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly, highly recommend the deep fried brie and onion rings! The fish and chips is always a great option too!

Arrived expecting a nice evening on Friday, lovely pub beautiful evening. Not busy at all, asked for menus to be told there no orders for a while as don’t want to upset the chef! We ordered drinks, asked for a slice of lime, lime cordial was added, when pointed this out bar lady this was not what we asked for she very indignant. Had our drinks and left, so disappointed!

Siamo arrivati a Bath in macchina, per cui trovare un hotel in centro con parcheggio è complicato. Ecco perché la scelta del Charlcombe Inn si è rilevata azzeccatissima. Si trova a 4 km dalla città che rimane facilmente raggiungibile: basta scendere lungo Lansdown Road e parcheggiare senza problemi appena si entra in città. L'hotel è buono, con stanza e bagno ampi e puliti. Anche il ristorante non è male sia per la cena che per la colazione inclusa nel prezzo del pernottamento. L'unico neo è, in entrambi i casi (cena e colazione), la lentezza esasperante del servizio con attese anche di trenta/quaranta minuti per due uova su un toast (motivo per cui su tre giorni abbiamo cenato lì una volta sola). Ma se avete pazienza e non vi aspetta nessuno andrà sicuramente bene.

Lovely pub stop with great sunday roast. Came for a family birthday, staff were accomodating fitting in a large booking. Timely orders, great portion sizes and tasty food. Safe to say I will be back again for another roast soon! Highly recommend a stop here if you are passing.

Dropped in for a late Sunday lunch. Friendly and welcoming service. Fantastic roast beef and the rest of the family enjoyed their burgers and chicken burger. Lovely pub and great staff.

We just stopped on impulse to see if we could get lunch. Very friendly person behind the bar who looked after us. A generous slice of steak and ale pie - really well made - beef was tender with delicious gravy. Beef burger was good too. A very pleasant experience in this welcoming pub.

Very disappointed for the price. A small slice of beef and ale pie I was expecting an individual one, spoonful of mixed veg, the dessert price of £7.50 was overly ambitious. Mitch match of worn tables and chairs. The ladies toilet needed a real deep clean very unhygienic. Also there was a board by our table stating that service charge was NOT ADDED added to the bill, This is begging for tips and totally unacceptable. Will not be returning.

Having stayed at this lovely inn before we were looking forward to another great stay. We booked direct for a superior king with a dog. When we arrived all rooms were booked leaving a double room only. There was no dog welcome box. On asking the receptionist advised all rooms are doubles and there are no kings. We hadn’t just booked the king but the superior king as per their website. The lady quickly put two poo bags with two tiny treats with a bowl in a box - very disappointing particularly as we saw pet boxes being put together in the morning with blankets etc. The flood light in the courtyard remained on for a lot of the night - the blinds didn’t do much to prevent this. In the morning our breakfast took over an hour to arrive. Overall it was a really disappointing experience. Nothing like what we had experienced a year ago.

Stopped off on our way back from Bristol and didn’t fancy cooking. A simple menu without too much choice which was a nice surprise. We both had a main and dessert and a drink for under £60. Good honest food and good service. Great

A very average Saturday lunch. Pub was cold - heating should have been on. Service was ok but staff didn’t seem particularly motivated. Toilets smelt terrible. Would not recommend

We stayed overnight and enjoyed a very good Dinner and Breakfast. Our room was in the separate block next to the Inn. The room was modern and the decor and fittings all in very good condition and we had a good night's sleep. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The Inn is close to the Park and Ride where there is lots of parking and the bus stops on Milsom Street in the centre of Bath. Would definitely use again.

We stopped for a quick lunch on our way to Bath. The fish finger sandwich was served with chips and tasted great. The goats cheese on a bed of roasted veg was absolutely delicious. The service could not be faulted.

Random pick for a quick lunch. Was it special? Frankly, no. Was it absolutely fine, good value, large portions, friendly service? Yes. So that's fine. Can't say it was a gourmet experience, or provide useful comments on anything complex on the menu, but the bread for the sandwiches was fresh, and the fries were crisp. That'll do for a quick lunch that was about being sociable without spending vast sums or taking too long. Decent car park too. We would return.

Beautiful building. Great service. Poor value for money. Had large fish and chips. Swapped chips for mash. Didn't eat the batter on the fish. Even though it was a large portion it was basically too small thin strips of fish. £17.00 was a lot to give for what I had. Unlikely to go back.

This place is nice, clean and comfy. Beautiful garden and setting. Staff really nice. Breakfast was great and menu was ok. The only problem we had was being woken up with doors slamming each morning at 5.30 ish. Not sure why people can’t use handles to shut doors. Take ear plugs with you!

Stayed here for 7 nights. Rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. Very secure in a courtyard with resident only access. All staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious. The inn is well situated and only a few minutes walk from Lansdown Road Park and Ride for easy access to Bath.

Had Sunday lunch with family. One word Amazing. The food was superb, the service was outstanding. Would highly recommend a visit.

We were passing & thought we would pop in for Sunday lunch. We hadn’t booked but there was a table for two available. We both had roast beef which was delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient. Cheesecake for dessert which was very nice we will definitely back again

Fantastic location Sadly rooms 9 and 10 you have to walk past the men’s toilets and smell public toilet/ piss smell to get to your room… Then as these rooms are above the toilets you can hear the public using the hand dryers throughout the night when in the room! Rooms 1-8 looked like to be outside the pub is a seperate area and looked much more desirable location Food was great, drinks was great, staff weere great! Just the location of the room really put a damper on the place!

Pleasant place to stay for one night afer attending Bath Racecourse. Bar staff were a little aloof and could be friendlier but service was good. Food menu is a little lacking invention but the burger was OK. Breakfast in the morning had a very friendly server and the full English was substantial and satisfying. Overall, a good place to stay outside the city.
