The blacksmith forge is now closed Lidl who owned the lease terminated agreement with Witherspoon Lidl have expanded into what was the blacksmith forge leaving a much smaller area available for lease This has been taken up by a bar/ restaurant called Madison's

Its a Witherspoons, Decent food, quickly delivered and great drinks at great prices. Also very family friendly. say no more

Well what can I say! I am sitting here as I write this review only because we ordered on the app and were hopeful when we sat down at a dirty table that someone would come and clear it and wipe the table (do yous know there is a pandemic!) there are no empty clean tables in the place! Have been sitting 15 minutes at this filthy table with staff walking past and ignoring the situation. So our drinks arrive and the girl takes the dirty plates, glasses etc. Our food is served and we mention the dirty table which needs wiped - his response “would you like me to wipe the table?” Get a grip Wetherspoons!!! I will not be back, this place is just asking for an outbreak of Covid 19 😡😡

The place is filthy, how they are allowed to open and operate under current circumstances is beyond me. Dirty tables, had to clean my own. The food was rubbish, ordered pizza which I’m not even sure had seen the oven (more like it had sat under the hot light and the ‘chef’ couldn’t remember if it had been cooked or not) Not one clean table in the place, the toilet was disgusting which would suggest that the staff are not carrying out hygiene checks. Genuinely shocked at just how bad it was. Avoid avoid avoid!!!

My daughter and I visited this pub/restaurant on Wed 5th Aug 2020 for something to eat. The hand sanitizer at the main door was empty and we just wandered in and found a table which had dirty plates from the previous diners and nobody came to clear them. We ordered and when the drinks were delivered we asked the woman if she could remove the plates? She took them away saying she was trying to get other orders out. The food took 45 mins to be served and was awful. The eggs were like rubber, the bacon was like cardboard and the beans were dried up! Clearly it had been cooked earlier and left on a hot plate to keep warm.I complained about this and the young guy offered to take it back and replace it but I didn’t want to wait another 45 mins for a replacement. The hour and a half we were in the premises I didn’t see anybody clean the tables and I think the manager was serving and clearing plates. THIS IS ANOTHER COVID 19 OUTBREAK WAITING TO HAPPEN! We won’t be back.

Visited here last night with family and wont be back again anytime soon . The place is disgusting . The table behind us sat for almost over 2 hours and still none of the staff cleared away left over food plates and half the rest of the table was covered in empty glasses . There were lots of empty glasses on most of the tables .We didnt wee a member of staff take a cloth and even wipe a table during our visit . Two of the bar staff still managed to have time to chat with each other and have a wee rest ..we were told one of these was the bar manager ..who didnt look old enough to be behind a bar in the first place and Ive seen a tortoise move faster . We ordered food which was average . The only person who actually seemed to be doing anything was the older lady who brought put meals . In the end 3 of the 4 of us in our party have ran a bar previously , my husband ended up clearing 3 of the tables round about us including our own because it was totally disgusting .

Five of us stopped by here for a quick meal, and over all the food here was exactly what you expect from a weatherspoons. It’s cheap enough and it’s mildly tasty. The service here leaves a lot to be desired, on that front 3 stars is extremely generous. I can compare the staff member I made my order with to “kiosk Keith”. In fact with her charm and charisma she quite suited the name Keith. When I did order my food I didn’t get a single word out of her at all. From where I was sat I could see our food sitting on the pass under the heat lamp, for at least 10 minutes... this was frustrating to say the least but at least was a form of confirmation that ‘Keith’ had in fact taken my order and was not just blankly staring through my soul. The staff also managed to get two of three drink orders incorrect, perhaps by speaking to the customer this could be rectified. 3*’s and that’s being generous.

I recently visited with my partner for xmas dinner,when it finally arrived it looked disgusting and was a very small portion, I'm very sure it's the cleaner who does the cooking,the best place in dalkeith to eat is the continental cafe in tarmac court,fresh food and good portions

You know what you get from Wetherspoons, no thrills cheap and cheerful. When I visit I just want decent service and tables that are cleaned in a timely manner and I’m aware that staffing resourcing issues can be difficult. On my visit, it was a Friday lunchtime and the pub was pretty busy which was a good sign. Not a lot of staff could be seen however our meals came out quick and toasty hot. Service was ok but not memorable. Furnishings and fabric of the building are in pretty good order. Nothing to complain about and would be happy to return

As ever with a 'Spoons', great value. Staff here very nice and efficient. Reasonable surroundings in the middle of Dalkeith.

This was my first experience with Wetherspoon's, and I thought it was rather fun. It's very convenient, fast, and affordable. The food is ok, the drinks were nice (look for the Kopparberg Strawberry Lime Cider!), and the interior of the building was pretty cool. I would go here again for something convenient and quick.

Tables never cleared of plates and glasses. We went in at 5.15pm and cleared a table by putting all the dirty cups and plates on another table that was piled high with dirty dishes. A till receipt was lying on a dirty plate and the time on the receipt was 9.15am. 8 hours and that table had not been cleaned.

Just had two curries, my madras was reasonable but my wife's vegetarian curry was almost half the portion size of mine. Never again. Half a star for the cider....the place has gone down hill since it opened.

Pas d'accueil ici, on s'assoit et on commande soit au bar soit par l'appli en payant par CB ou PayPal, nickel pour les étrangers car du coup aucun taux de change on paye en euros. Cependant, ils nous manquaint des wings, ensuite dans mon bangers and mash ils ont oubliés les petits pois... Même pas réclamés, on avait déjà réclamés les wings. Cependant c'était mangeable même si c'est sûrement du congelés. Les prix sont corrects. Vraiment dommage pour les manquements en cuisine.

Visit to this restaurant was a poor experience , we ordered a meal for two Thought we would sit down beside coffee machine , big mistake seating was grubby stains on seating , meal arrived ,as we started eating noticed we were getting plagedBy flys as we looked towards coffee machine noticed flys crawling on floor and upside coffee machine cabinet ,by this time some flys had landed on my wife’s meal , decided to complain member of staff replied not a lot they can do about it ,, we decided to leave our meals , very unsatisfactory resolution to complaint and left premises,,, don’t sit near coffee machine as for some reason Wetherspoons have not thought of a way to address this problem ,, or don’t care ,,,

Came in for breakfast with family this morning 10.40 approx 08/08/2019 . Asked to substitute something for the beans in my breakfast as I don’t like beans . Staff member told my wife “ I don’t know why we do changes , if it was up to me we wouldn’t do changes to the breakfast no one else does” . My wife replied that most places will substitute if asked . The staff member then commenced arguing the point with my wife saying “no they don’t . To which my wife replied that they do . Tip for management here ensure staff are courteous to the customers or they will not return . I won’t . Damned if I will pay money to have a staff member standing behind the bar disrespecting and being discourteous to my wife . Be nice and your customers will return .

Was there last night, 4 in our party. Short staffed and felt sorry for the two girls who were working. Advised that we would have to wait an hour for food, 3 staff called in sick apparently. Agreed to wait. Dirty glasses and dishes were not being collected. One girl staff member ended up in tears as the place was quite busy and some were not as patient. Anyway, the folk at tge table next to us waited 2 hours! for their food, when it arrived it was cold and looked a mess. They refused to eat it and got their money refunded. We spoke to the 'manager' and he asked if we wanted our money back. We accepted and left. We go to this Wetherspoons regularly but not sure we'll be back. Lovely staff, treated like sh@t and probably on the minimum wage so no criticism from me. Plenty of other eating establishments in the area to spend your hard earned cash, don't waste it here.

We nipped in this morning for some lunch. Maybe had 20/25 people in but we struggled for a seat as every table was full of dirty dishes. 2 staff members standing around doing nothing, no attempt at cleaning the place up. No need for the place to be like that and how people can eat in their is beyond me. The place should be shut down. We obviously didn't stay. I wouldn't let a stray dog eat in that dump.

Typical Witherspoon pub with the lunchtime mix of diners and drinkers. Jacket potato was nice enough. Great that you can order on the app when you don't have time to queue at the bar.

I enjoy eating and drinking here, but the disabled toilet is an absolute disgrace. Yes I know their is hidden disabilities, but everyone in the pub was using it. During my time their with my friends, the toilet was not cleaned once, their was urine all over the floor, it stank and was just disgusting. Being someone with a physical disability I was very disgusted with this and wouldn't use the toilet again. If they are going to let everyone use the one toilet they need to clean it often!

I took my wife and daughter and her husband for supper and we had a fantastic experience.

If you want to go for a cheap pint and some reasonable price good food, then this is for you. To be fair it serves a purpose, if i am honest it not my kind of place but i cant take away from the fact that the staff are good and the food id not to bad and my Mother loves it, so it must be good:)

Needs a good clean, toilets are often dirty, especially the disabled ones. I’m a carer, and do not recommend these toilets. Carpets are sticky, and chairs have dried in food on them. Which looks like hardened chewing gum. Overall shabby and grubby. Food very basic. And poor quality,

One of the worst breakfasts we have had in a long time. Both were look warm when they got to the table and near raw eggs. Food needs to be hot so ours must have been sitting on a hot plate.

Typical Wetherspoons, brightly lit and chatter only. They do have a big screen for Scotland Rugby matches

Good range of beverages at brilliant prices in a typical 'Spoons. As ever some interesting ales from small brewers available: far better than so-called "craft" beers from multinational outfits.

Food fast and hot beer good priced bar service was abissmal staffing was very low...interior very dirty reputation is clearly starting to fall

So dissapointed with my visit here. My Dad, his friend, myself and my husband had 3 attempts at the menu before ordering. 1st up no fish which we all wanted to order! Next up no haggis which 2 off us wanted. My husband ended up with a burger that looked like a kids portion. My dad got a fry up, his friend go gammon and i got sausage and mash. Could have stayed at homr for that.

It is an ok pub for a drink but DO NOT ORDER FOOD.We waited 45 min for food to arrive when it did eventually show up the order was wrong, a supposedly rare stake was grey right through and sent straight back to the kitchen. This is not the first time we have had a terrible experience here. By far the worst weatherspoons I have ever used.

A reasonably good place to have a coffee, snack or drink but staff levels appear to be an issue quite a lot of the time, or poor management.

Called in for a coffee while our hotel room was being made ready, and to escape the rain! Decent enough bar, friendly, polite staff and good service. Excellent value for money as always. Worth a visit

I regularly go to this Wetherspoons for a coffee and/or my breakfast.In the past few weeks I have ordered a black pudding roll at on 4 separate occasions.Each time I was told they had no rolls.Once I asked for toast instead and they said they also had no bread! What is going on here it’s a disgrace that an establishment such as Wetherspoons cannot stock such everyday breakfast items.I would like to hear what Mr.Tim Martin’s response would be to this.

Went in and was given dirty cutlery 3 time's, disgusting, had the cheek to say they are sorry and never offered refund, i would never go back to any weatherspoons, absolutely vile

I have visited this pub a few times before and generally speaking the food is good, as it was on this occasion. However, the bar service was slow and I don't like the queuing system as it makes it difficult to see what real ales are on offer. The pub always seems busy with more drinkers than diners, but my meal was delivered in quick time and was fresh and well cooked

I’ve been a few times (not my choice) with family & it’s always understaffed. Had to return food stone cold & also over cooked food, tables not cleared. Certain staff act like can’t be bothered. Need to take a leaf out of the David Macbeth Moir’s book which is great, good food, pleasant staff etc. Easy to turn it around.

As I ordered some drinks and food on the desk with my tourists dialect. One of those chubby ladies on the desk with toped hairs, was really unmotivated to help me ahead. (11.05.2018)

I am a regular customer at Wetherspoons and Tim Martin has regularly commented on the unfairness of the supermarkets.He insists that the price of alcohol is too cheap and hurts his business.I find this a bit strange as a unit of vodka in Wetherspoons is £3.10 and as there are 26/28 units in a bottle of vodka he is making a mark up of over 800%.Maybe if he charged around £1.75 a unit his business would still make a very healthy profit and also attract more customers.I will be really happy to hear his opinion.

I had arranged to meet a friend of mine ,and his mother at this Weather spoons Pub .With my wife .We saw that Haddock and chips and peas ,was the day special at £3.99 a time .We all ordered this and it was a decent size meal and very nice .The whole atmosphere at the Pub is relaxed ,and very friendly .I will going there again we had a great meal and time here

In my quest to visit every Wetherspoon pub I found myself here yesterday. What a nice friendly place this is with super staff, I’d like to give a special mention to Jennifer who was outstanding at doing her job. Also Lisa & Clare who took the trouble to talk to me about my challenge to go round every pub. Can recommend this place to anybody who finds themselves in Dalkeith.

Triple bad experience in one day at what used to be our weekly Friday lunch. First no Christmas dinner as they had run out—fair enough so we chose half roast chicken—- came frozen —- waitress apologised and offered for manager to phone me—- now Easter weekend and no phone call! Totally awful. Talking to other people the place has developed a reputation even between other branches. Clearly management to blame here and they need to get it sorted.

Went in with a friend for drinks 9ish Friday 16 March. What a disaster really busy with two behind the bar. there was one other but seemed to be taking orders to tables who had texted them?!! Waited ages to then be given our gins in half pint glasses!!!! We complained about this and later on an overworked manager came over to apologise and brought appropriate glasses. Get your act together Weatherspoons you may be cheap but you are getting a bad reputation!!

We visited a group of 6 and we waited a long. While to get served at the bar, after that most food came fast one member of our party order a chicken burger and it came about 20 mins later but a beef burger so then had to wait for it to be changed. Service was shocking but Brooke was polite and friendly

My friend and I ended up here after a disaster at another local restaurant. We had the grilled chicken burger and chips, with a bottle of wine for under £30. The food was nice and the wine was lovely. A brilliant cheap n cheerful option.

Visited on Christmas Eve and there seemed to be a lack of staff. Was with a party of 6 and waited 45 mins to be served at the bar. Some of the drinks even got mixed up but we weren't waiting again to complain! Tired out old pub, wouldn't expect this from the Wetherspoons chain.

I ordered bbq chicken wrapped in bacon with cheese. The chicken was dry, the bacon looked raw, the cheese unmelted. Disgusting. I won’t be back.

Only giving it three, as it is getting better under new manager, still got a long way to go, I would suggest they get rid off the mismatched wooden stools and tables, then might get better points.

Feels like this place is being run into the ground. High staff turnover, never enough staff on with long que's at the bar, then people order drinks on their fone app and are served immediatley, que jumping, heating not working for weeks, this shouldn't happen in an establishment serving food, running out of food, real ales very limited with them all going off at same time and its sometimes days before they are on again! Feels like this place is being run down and lots of people have this opinion!!

Another Spoons pub added to our list and pretty good too. We jumped on the bus from Edinburgh to avoid the crowds attending the Autumn rugby fixtures and found the pub busy enough but relaxing at the same time. Only had a few drinks but the real ale selection was good and the prices a bit cheaper than in Edinburgh. The service was a bit slow but the staff were friendly and there seemed to be a good atmosphere all round. Worth a visit.

This is our local pub where all friends meet up..last few months the pub has went downhill...mismatched furniture (get other wetherspoons casts off)..this week alone..no heating..air condition on..as switch broken so cant be turned off? and today no gas so no draft beers or lager when finally get fixed no carlsberg lager...table booked for 20 tonight..1 staff member and 1 to clear tables!..feel sorry for the staff as they trying their best and really nice n friendly but getting the backlash..management need to stand uo and improve things!!!

We visit on Sunday for a catch up and chance to unwind, but the breakfast seem to vary in quality considerably.

I find the food is usually good and I go on a Tuesday as it is steak day. You get a steak cooked how you want, tomato, mushroom, peas and chips with a soft drink for approx £6.00/£7.00. That to me for a reasonable quality sirloin steak is good value. I opt for a sauce as a side which is extra but still good value as elsewhere you will pay approx £14.00 upwards.You have to pick your seat, order and pay at the bar. I see lots of regulars when I go in and the atmosphere is usually good.

I am not one to complain and have in fact only written one complaint in last 5 years which coincendently was about service at The Blacksmiths Forge which was met with a polite ' denial' Anyway , my partner likes curries and we arranged to meet at Spoons for their Thursday night Curry Night . We both had to travel a few miles to get there and when we did meet the place was quite busy. The time was 6:20pm.We chose our curries and I went up to order." Sorry we've ran out of that one" . I went back to my partner who chose another one . " Sorry , We've ran out of that one and we've just run out of Balti too. In fact there are only two left that we can serve " Now this is an advertised long standing "Curry Night" How can an establishment such as Weatherspoons run out of the majority of their menu by 6:20 on a Thursday night .Result was wasted time,petrol and effort on my behalf. We did not like the curries that were stil available and ended up taking our business elsewhere.Spoons used to be a reliable great place to go and I would have no hesitation arranging a night out there with friends etc.Due to experiences like this I am now less likely to go and definitely less likely to recommend to others.

My wife and I went for breakfast on A Friday morning, we both ordered a large Scottish breakfast Tea and coffee. The place was very quiet but we waited at least 30 mins to be served, when we got our food our eggs were burned black on the bottom and the yolks were rock hard the Square sausage was raw inside and everything else was cold. This used to be a great place to go for food but i will not go back as this is not the first time the food has been rubbish. Please take heed of this post and challenge the staff when food is not acceptable.

Went for breakfast on Sunday with my wife , usually no problem , what happened , queues massive no staff , unlimited filtered coffee not available or if it was you had to join the end of the queue with a 20 minute wait ,same for a tea refill .Now for the breakfast, bacon cold , sliced sausage like rubber , potatoe scone burned, altogether terrible .Usually a member of staff comes and asks if the food is ok , not on Sunday ,I wonder why .Don't think we will be back for a while , which is a pity because we like the place .

Back again , must be better now.....nope.10 to 15 minute wait to get served.1 girl on who was as slow as a month of Monday's. Ordered a burger, by the end of the order she had confused me so much I didn't know what I ordered.Breaded brie,but no cranberry sauce. Doh. Food us good but service STILL shocking.

Visit here quite often they are very adequate to my requests (im pregnant) only thing is the toilets being upstairs but apart from that the staff are lovely. Food is amazing and well prepared. Very happy with the customer service.

I've been to this place a couple of times but was impressed on my last visit. It is looking cleaner and more organised than before leading to a better experience. I used the mobile app to order the food and everything came out as expected and quickly. Service at the bar was quick and friendly making this one of the better spoons I've been to recently. Overall a good atmosphere in a clean and tidy premises and I hope to be back soon.

Hi visited restaurant 13th may 2017 with my family wanted fish and chips not available so ordered aberdden angus 8 oz steak with haggis bites as a starter before main course ,my son in law ordered 14 oz rump steak and my daughter ordered 8 oz rump steak when orders arrived my son in law was given a 8 oz steak and my daughters was wrong as well after 5 mins tgeir meals where taken away and given to next table after a while their meals arrived, Iwas then asked by waitress what i had ordered told me sorry my haggis bites had been sent to wrong table however would come in 2 mins my starter arrived eventually with my main course so i had to eat both at same time and would be given a free starter as compensation as being diabetic i never took up the offer, did not enjoy steak as very grisly wont be back, however did like haggis bites but not at same time as main course

Came here with my partner for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. For two people it was lunch and drinks for less that £10. It was fresh and tasty and service waz great. The buttermilk chicken burger is really nice.

Can't really fault the place for good cheap drink and decent food at good prices. Kept pretty clean as well, need good bladder control as toilets are pretty far to walk to. Don't let this put you of visiting though.

Called in for a late breakfast. Girl who served me was very friendly and explained approx time and filter coffee procedure. She was also very pleasant and patient with 2 ladies being served in front of me.Scottish Breakfast and wrap were both delicious. Nice building. Worth a visit.

I met old friends here today .. I've always had good food at the blacksmiths forge but today it was awful ... we ordered Brie with cranberry but there was no cranberry ... the salad consisted of 6 leaves of rocket the avacado salad was terrible n real mean with half a very small avacado .. the soup not good .. I am gluten free n couldn't find any on the menus .. the tap wine was disgusting and service terrible ... won't be back ever again ...

As the title indicates 4 of us partook of breakfast on Saturday morning. 3 of us opted for the big breakfast 2 with scrambled eggs. The other had eggs benedict. The scrambled eggs were sparse - I doubt we shared even 2 eggs between us instead of the 2 each. Our complaint was accepted cheerfully and we were quickly supplied with a couple of bowls filled with scrambled eggs - at least 3 per bowl. Strangely you are permitted refills of filtered coffee but not of tea when both are priced the same. A filing and tasty breakfast for a reasonable outlay.

Food deals are good as it's a wetherspoons and staff seem to always help if we need anything extra for our daughter. Can get busy on a Friday afternoon. Steak night is well worth a visit on a Tuesday.

Really enjoy my Porridge and Toast, and kids breakfast is plenty for those with smaller appetite. Staff doing there best sometimes when perhaps that extra pair of hands would be handy to ensure til is manned and Latte etc are made swiftly

The Scottish breakfast is hearty, delicious, and reasonably priced. I've also had the bangers and mash which came in generous portions and was delicious. Service is friendly. Americano coffee was freshly made. I've yet to try the ales, since my visits have been in the mornings. There are several TV screens and wifi, too. Large, spacious dining area. One of my favorite places in Dalkeith to sit and write in the midst of locals. Pleasant atmosphere.

Goodness me I forgot why I stopped going to Weatherspoons and visited the Dalkeith one on Sunday for breakfast/brunch. Over worked staff, only two on and the place was busy. Waited over half an hour for basic breakfast. Was told they had no poached eggs but could order fried eggs???? just proves all the stuff is cooked and just kept warm. Can't blame staff for the appalling service, with only two of them on they were doing their best. Food, when it eventually came, was luke warm. Better just getting a Greggs takeaway or McDonalds, it's just not worth it.

The Blacksmith's Forge is your typical Wetherspoon's and does exactly what it says on the tin. You know what you're getting at a Wetherspoon's and this is no different. The past few times we have been, it's for the 'Fish Friday' and for the price you pay, it's a decent deal. Our meals have always been absolutely fine - nice crispy batter on the fish, decent-sized portions etc. We've never had any gripes about the waiting times or the staff, who always seem friendly and helpful even when they're rushed off their feet! The place itself could do with a bit of a refurbishment though - it is starting to look a bit 'tired'.

The Blacksmith's Forge is a large pub in Dalkeith centre. It has a very typical Wetherspoon's layout being large, airy and open with 1 large bar running the length of the room and a raised seating area opposite.The pub offers a standard Spoons selection of food and drink with a few menu additions to suit a Scottish patronage including Haggis and Irn Bru.Cleanliness is on par with most other Wetherspoons and service is generally very good.My only real gripe with this pub is the ridiculously long walk you need to make to reach the toilets.

Have been going to this pub for a good number of years and it is slipping portions are getting smaller service is not what it was general upkeep not good (chips and blemishes on tables and walls) Tables not being cleaned, Menus grubby not much really up to even an OK standard it used to be a really nice pub an overlay upbeat attitude by a couple of members of staff was really annoying as well.I go here once a week and every week it gets a bit worse still just OK but not for anyone who was a bit picky if you know what I mean my mother will no longer go there and she used to like it.

This was a stop on my way to Edinburgh with not that much time to spare, but knowing that the food service is always quick, made it the ideal "pit stop" I ordered the Club menu curry and was served within minutes, with a generous and tasty portion, plus all the accompaniments - rice, Nan, chutney and poppadoms, so was able to go on my way well replenished after an enjoyable and value meal

Went on a Sunday not busy ,Staff not clearing dirty tables at all ,Manageress on duty also other girl and one young chap ,girl went around taking menu's of tables instead of clearing first;,not got a clue ,salts not topped up no intrest in the place whatsoever going down hill fast .

I have been coming to the Blacksmith Forge since it opened but it really is now very tired and jaded looking. The toilets are smelly and now need an overhaul. Time to spend some money for an overhaul.

Visited dalkeith branch 1/11/16... Firstly ordered a cheeseburger with bacon no chips... Got a burger with cheese & bacon put down on a huge plate with no roll!! Pretty obvious I wanted a roll or would have said!! Second order I ordered my mum & dad's steaks separate from mine as they wanted all the trimmings... I only wanted steak, Chips, onion rings & peppercorn sauce... My plate came with all the trimmings, second dish to be sent back! Got a glass of wine the glass was FILTHY & covered in lipstick & soap suds... Ordered a pitcher of cocktail.... Was giving another 2 FILTHY glasses same as before lipstick marks & soap suds!! Also visited the premises on the 10th October for my daughter's 18th birthday meal.... She showed what ID she had & the bar staff happily sold her ALL night... Every pitcher of cocktails on the menu & numerous trays of shots & lager yet they embarrassed her at this visit tonight by not accepting the EXACT same ID she had presented on the 10th of October. We have spoke to the duty manager Claire [--] on the phone whom was very rude may i add!! Wouldn't advise anyone to visit this place!!!!!

Was in today at the start of there beer festival,they were selling abbot reserve , so I bought a couple of pints, and barmaid came up to me to give me some money back as they were only selling abbot ale under the same tap, not got much faith in this pub, I think manager should get his finger out and get pub back to what it was.

We ate here while staying at Melville castle the locals all pointed this way and it was good food would eat again. Most meals cheap and come with drinks.

Visited with friends and children. Sat in the 'family dining' area up the back. First impressions not good, the tacky, mismatched furniture was dirty and tables were in need of a wipe. This 'family dining' area was also occupied by rough, old men who looked like regulars there for cheap drink. One of these men actually drank from cups left behind on other tables, before returning them to the bar, which says a lot. They insisted on using the disabled toilet in the corner which was absolutely filthy and made numerous comments about our children being there, obviously believing they own the place. Food was average, good choice on menu but fish was slightly soggy and unappealing. Surprisingly, the toilets upstairs were spotless. The dining area is in dire need of refurbishment.Overall, would be in no rush to return to this tacky, dirty establishment, ruled by regulars.

I've been here before and, being a Wetherspoons pub, you know you'll get value food and drink. It being a Friday, I chose the Club Fish dish which was crisp and well cooked and served with a generous amount of chips, plus a drink was included in the price so what not to like! My only criticism on this visit would be that my table had been cleared from the last occupant but not cleaned and there were old napkins and peas on the chair and floor which should not have been as the pub was not that busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff on duty

We ate here as a family with 4 adults and 2 small children. The menu had a fairly good variety of meals at reasonable prices. The food arrived and although the portions were not big the food was edible. During our time here we were shocked by the number of customers using the disabled toilet rather than going to the toilets upstairs! Staff were obviously aware of this happening but did nothing. When we went to use the toilet to change the baby it was disgusting. It stank of urine and the floor was soiled. Sadly this experience has put us off returning! The disabled toilet is close to the table we were seated at and spoilt our dining.

Lovely place, big choice of food but apparently had no fish at lunch time ? Weird, you get what u pay for but not the place to go if want some fish at lunch time

I was pleasantly surprised with how good the fish and chips were. I would have paid double. A drink is also included for a reasonable price.

supposedly 'washed' beer glasses were dirty & full of fingerprints. beefburgers were 'pinkish' in the middle. customer service great & we were given a full refund along with apologies. i've often seen scruffy, cooks walking through the premises & as an ex-chef myself, just not good enough. puts you right off & you wonder, with no care about appearance, are they just as careless with personal hygiene .

Good chef I think here. Food appears fairly quickly, hot, cooked well and well presented. Busy bar area and can be a bit noisy. Access for wheelchair users although not sure for disabled toilets.

Had breakfast here this morning with friends. Orderd the large scottish breakfast. Amazing plenty on plate well laid out no grease in sight. Service was fast and friendly and clean. Enjoyed will be back thankyou.

you get what you pay for, frozen food cooked by kitchen assistants and microwave technicians following operating procedure guides, they dont know if its overdone , underdone or done, so if your lucky, it will be acceptable, if your unlucky,well!!!

Standard place to grab cheap pub grub and drinks. Been a few times, standard food and decent price. My personal favourite is the gourmet chicken burger with montery jack cheese and bacon , comes with chips and onion rings.
