Great food, great pints, fantastic kids options, would highly recommend to anyone living on or visiting the Isle of Wight!

Nice pub, delicious food and good vibe

Food is very good and cooked well. We had the scallop, chicken in garlic butter, burger and finished with the pavlova (picture shows one large and one small). It was all delicious. Staff are hit and miss - the young lad and the blonde lady are lovely, however the others are standoffish, verging on rude. View is stunning too - we sat outside as the sun went down and the view is just beautiful (the sunset being the highlight). Would deffo come back here for the view and food. Hopefully the staff will be a bit cheerier!

We visited on the last evening of our holiday. A perfect end to a great few days on this beautiful Isle. 4 of us dined, and every single morsel of the 3 courses each of us had was utterly fabulous. Across the menu between us we had monk fish scampi - a daily special that I enjoyed so much I could have eaten a tonne of it - add in the lobster mayo and you’ve got an absolute sensation. We also tried the bao buns which were soft, fluffy and spicy with the salt and pepper chicken. In to the mains, there was a mixed grill - expertly cooked, the produce used was clearly top grade. A beef and red wine pie on special that was melt in the mouth. A spicy, coconutty Katsu curry, as authentic as then come, and mine. An absolute hunk of what can only be described as perfection in brisket. 12 hour, slow roasted BBQ beef brisket, with lime butter corn on the cob and creamy home made slaw. Puddings were made with TLC as the describe, apple, pear and ginger crumble with custard, a warm gooey chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and creamy vanilla ice cream and a white chocolate and raspberry crème brûlée with a crumbly homemade shortbread biscuit that complemented it perfectly. I cannot recommend a visit to this restaurant more highly, some of the most delicious food I’ve had in a very long time. Comforting, inventive, very generous portions and impeccable flavour. All accompanied by friendly, efficient service. Total bill was £192 (we added service on top) for 4 people, 3 courses each, some soft drinks and 5 pints. An all round superstar that should be on anyone’s visit list. Worth the trip on the ferry alone, we will definitely be back.

We have eaten here as a family group several times. Delicious food. Friendly helpful staff. Awesome views! Get there early for a good table outside. Great play area for the children. Best pub we have found on the island.

Booked for lunch. Had to phone and advise we were stuck in heavy traffic, but they were happy to keep our table. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was excellent. Prices very reasonable. Will visit again when next on the Island.

Wonderful service, we'd booked and there were only tables outside which wouldn't have been a problem because the view is great. However the view of the incoming rain wasn't so good! One of the fantastic staff managed to squeeze us into a space by the fireplace which was cosy and nice. The food was great, very big portions of the ham, egg and chips our boys couldn't finish it all. This is our second visit, the first was 7 years ago but still as good.

I've been coming over to the island for over two decades on and off...how have I never been to the Blacksmiths till this week?? Fantastic pub, friendly staff and a cracking menu of really nice food with possibly the best view from any pub on the isle of wight. Will be back without question, highly recommended

Absolutely great place from start to finish We booked a table online for 9 people and we were advised that the only place for us would be the outside seating area. unfortunately the good out British weather it was cold and slightly raining. We arrived they had left blankets on all chairs and when it started to rain they come with umbrellas and stands to keep them up. the food was prefect. We had a vegetarian in the group who said how wonderful the wellington was she said that it felt like a real thought had gone in to the dish and wasn’t just thrown together as they had to include an option for a vegetarian on the menu

A hidden gem! Hadn’t booked on a Sunday at lunchtime but they were very accommodating and found somewhere for us (two people) even though the place was busy and had many tables reserved. Food was delicious and great value. We had the small roasts which were ample and shared a large pavlova which were both lovely. Would definitely go back again !

First time but definitely won’t be the last!!! From booking to getting the final bill was done with ease. food, service and location is fantastic. Forgot to take photos of main course but everyone enjoyed their meals.

A lovely pub with a great location and outstanding views.Good food wonderful staff. But because of where it is car parking at busy times is difficult. A great member of staff was directing traffic which helped a lot -but there just was not enough room. But a pub will worth visiting.

Delicious 3 course lunch and drinks last week. Polite, friendly and efficient service and the staff were very kind and helpful when a member of the family became a bit unwell, (nothing to do with the meal I must add). Would highly recommend the Blacksmiths and hope to return when next on the IOW. Thank you

will definitely be coming back here again, and hopefully soon! this place did not fall short in any aspect. i ordered from the special menu, a crab cake and pan fried seabream served beautifully with a salad and skinny fries. my partner ordered the roast pork belly from the summer main menu. mine came to £22 whilst my partners was £17.50, amazing value for the quality of the food. it was outstanding. the pub is a 6 minute drive from carisbrooke but still out the way enough to have the comfort of a beautiful view whilst eating, which the interior of the pub compliments perfectly. all in all, our total each was £35, including a main, dessert and 2x drinks each. we were thoroughly impressed with our evening here. thank you so much for a wonderful dinner!

Excellent meal with great service

We visited 28 July 24 for an important family meal. The numbers needed to increase on multiple occasions. We eventually edded up with 19 attending, each time the booking changed the staff dealt with the changes without issue. As ever, the food was outstanding and given the quality and presentation, reasonably priced. I can strongly recommend the lamb based Newchurch Pie, outstanding! The location is deceptive if you pass by on the main road. The dining areas open up to offer great views across the Island, the Solent and the New Forest. With the outdoor seating areas dropping down to the play area. I'd like to thank Emily personally and the rest of the staff for making this a memorable family event

Great views, kids play area viable from the outside tables and the food was great, think up-market pub food. Seemed to be plenty of parking but when we left it looked full so it's obviously a popular choice

Came here for a Sunday Roast as this restaurant was massively recommended to us. We were sat in a secluded area which was fantastic for us as we came as a family. We were able to enjoy one another's company in peace. The orders came very quickly and the beef is truly the best I have ever had! The vegetables were cooked to perfection! I was so gobsmacked at how beautiful the whole meal was. It was 100% worth every penny and infact it was an absolute bargain!

We are on holiday in the IoW so never know what places are going to be like! Excellent meal. We didn’t book as we thought we’d sit outside as we had a dog, however weather wasn’t great so were offered a table inside. Friendly staff, great service and fab food. Would definitely go back and recommend.

Good food and good-sized portions

Cracking pub perched high up on the hills near Newport. Fabulous panoramic view across the island from inside or out. Nice play area for kids with swings, slides and climbing castle. Also good to see a smaller version for the under 5s away from the main play area. All of this is fenced and secure so the kids can play safely without worrying about them wandering off into the car park. Outdoor seating had blankets and cushions to stay cosy and the indoor seating, with the views, was great. Good range of beers on tap including local offerings as well as those from further afield. No photos of the food sadly but I had the best macaroni cheese (wild mushroom and garlic) that I have ever eaten in my life. Can't be a lot that is good for you in there but boy did it taste amazing! The lamb pie and katsu chicken also went down really well with the crowd I was with. The kids enjoyed the usual pub favourites although the pizza was not the 'normal' pizza according to my kids which I understand as it was more of a deep pan pizza pie. Will be sure to visit this brilliant pub the next time I am in the Isle of Wight.

Recommended by many and thoroughly deserved! Amazing service, we booked a second night whilst eating our first meal. Choice, courtesy and care- absolutely first rate. Dinner with a view. The beef short rib was delicious, as we're the Nachos starter and the creme brulee. In fact everything was good and the portions were very much more than generous.

Booked a meal here to celebrate our wedding anniversary (my husband, myself and our 2 children) while on holiday. From the moment we entered we felt welcome. Really great atmosphere, stunning views and very attentive and kind staff. The food was absolutely exquisite! Without doubt the best we have had the entire week we spent on Isle of Wight. Emily is superb and a credit to the business. She makes sure everyone has what they need and nothing is too much trouble. A truly fabulous pub! Thank you all xx

11 of us booked for meal on a very busy Friday,the service was great,quicker than we expected, food was excellent! We opted to sit in the garden as we had dogs with us . Beautiful views and very welcoming. Definitely recommend.

Went for a drink Wednesday night, loved the place, so booked a table for Friday night (tonight) lovely food and the staff were very friendly, service was excellent, would definitely return again

After some amazing visits here over the years it seems to have changed into a restaurant more than a pub now, very little choice of beers and average service.

Fantastic food with great service, would recommend to book in advance as they get booked up.

Had great meals here's, and Alex was so nice to us, as I was with family. Will definitely come again and again. Side note they sell those funky mermaid gin glass bottles here for a £5.

I only wish I lived closer to this pub, my family and I had a wonderful meal from start to finish here. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The food was divine, we tried the bao buns, I had the T-Bone steak which was perfectly cooked and came with 3 sauces. My wife had the poke bowl with lamb, my son had the filthy animal and my mum the belly pork. We all had desserts too. All I can say is we loved it and the location with a nice sunset and ambience.

This is the place to go for some of the best food anywhere.

Amazing food, service and views

Excellent meal with very friendly service, but the highpoint was a dessert I could eat every day!! (Sticky toffee + date sponge with butterscotch sauce and custard - Magnificent!!) Recommended restaurant with beautiful views 👍🏻

We've been back twice in two days now. That's how much we enjoyed it here. The atmosphere is nice the staff are friendly and the food is amazing on both visits. If we come back to the Isle of Wight we definitely be back. Thank you Blacksmiths.

Had the most delicious lunch today for my birthday treat. And what a treat it was! Food was super tasty. Views to die for. Great service and ambience. You wont be dissapointed, just remember to make a booking as it is very popular. Plus fantastic value, couldn't fault it.

This resturant is difficult to book a table. Try mid week seems to be the best time. You are shown into the resturant and the views are superb. The view goes from the Southampton along the Solent to past Portsmouth. The food and the service is excellent. Try the mariners Pie or the Curry. Leave some space from the puddings. You will be captivated by the views.

Amazing food, big portions, and very high standards. View was so great looking out over the hills. You will need to book, we were lucky to get table as a walk in, lots of people turned away after us as there was no tables. The staff was super nice aswell. Thanks for a memorable lunch!

This is the best place to eat in the area. The team made everything possible for us to feel comfortable, we were served with pace and received our food exactly how we wanted. I ate the overnight short short rib of beef, and it was lovely. I could cut it with a spoon. The fries are also delicious. Very happy with the attention. Is important to make reservation. In our case we did not have one and had to go early on Sunday at brunch time (~1pm). There was no space on Saturday night. We ate in the patio and we were blessed with good weather, but it is better to secure your place inside beforehand in case the weather is not a good friend.

The best thing about the pub is the view, the food is okay...more pub grub than top end dining. I had the mixed grill...chips underdone, gammon overdone... Everything else was good. My partner had the plaice, no complaints. My tip: The portion sizes are on the larger side, so I would consider that when thinking of a starter.

The best spot for great food with a great view! So this is the second time visiting here and I must say, we will be back again! Service was exceptional, polite and fast. But the real winner here is the food and location, set looking out across one of the most beautiful landscapes i have ever seen! The food here is delicious, until next time.

My dog and I had a fabulous evening meal here. The service was v good and they even thoughtfully had dog blanket and treats available.

We’ve just been on holiday as a family and had the pleasure of eating at The Blacksmiths. The food was delicious, the setting is idyllic and the staff were very friendly and professional. This is the perfect place to have a family meal on your holiday. The price is really good for the quality of the food.

We were recommended this pub and I have to say it stood up to its reputation. It well deserves its Golden Pub Award and Silver for burgers (though the burger was a little big for me). The pub has a lovely warm feel, with good music, and welcoming staff. I would recommend booking in advance, but we were lucky enough to get a table as walk-ins. The pub has a lovely view and is also dog-friendly!

A very nice place serving good food. I can particularly recommend the Sunday roast. There is a good beer selection to choose from and is dog friendly. The garden has a good view across The Solent due to the pubs elevated position. There is a carpark and the pub is all on ground level. I believe the pub is fully wheelchair accessible. The No7 bus stops nearby.

Very popular resteraunt of winter recommend you book. Big outside area with tables and great views on the summer. Play park supervisable from both inside and outside seating if you wish. Can't give to much more comments as we stopped for a drink only.
