the sunday lunch was appalling. we wanted to try it.. seeing all the good reviews and photos but i wouldn’t recommend eating here . the mash was lumpy the meat was dry and the veg came 10mins after our meat and potatoes was served and when it did arrive the swede was absolutely freezing .. also wouldn’t recommend the service either or the seating areas ! as when we first walked in no ventilation and the pub was full off smoke i couldn’t breathe

Me & my partner looking for a lovely village pub coming back to Hornsea from Flamboro, The Black Horse ticked all boxes. Andrea & Rachel were warm & welcoming from the start, nice selection of drinks, pie & trimmings, Hunter's chicken too, well stuffed! Thank you Ladies, would highly recommend..

The pub looked lovely. But no veggie option on the menu. I was told they could do a veggie pie with Stilton, mushrooms and cranberries but I don't like fruit in a main so it was a no for that. We left without experiencing further.

Served quickly and efficiently at a good price. The only drawback being the front door which slams behind you with such a loud bang. Every one who entered after me said the same thing. It's not the first visit with this happening.

Friendly staff and would go again but not for food - burger & chips was just that: a beefburger in a bread bun, no salad or pickles served with floppy chips. The pie was ok, paid £1 extra for gravy that I could have sliced with a knife. Also paid £1 extra for a ramekin of peas.

Been back today (June 7 2024) Arrived few minutes early. The Landlady was suffering multiple problems but put me, the customer first. Her daughter jumped in to help, she was amazing, funny and really nice. This pub is fantastic, food is awesome and lovely location. First time visiting since the new owners took over. It's so nice here and the new landlady and landlord are really friendly, the food was great and a good choice too.

The Black Horse Inn is a popular traditional village pub. There were quite a few people in having meals when I visited. There is a separate lounge/ dining room and a nice cosy dog friendly bar with a real fire. There is a good choice of beers, lagers, and cider, including two hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales when I called in. There is outside seating at the side of the pub.

Been today for lunch with 7 other ladies. It was absolutely freezing cold, we didn't get to take our costs off at all in 2 hours. The young girl serving was lovely but had too much to do. She eventually came to light the fire but too little too late. Waited for our food for too long, it was tepid when it came so was cold before it was eaten therefore a lot was left on all plates. You could cut the gravy with.a knife it was that thick. One lady asked for garden peas and got mushy, no offer of changing them even tho she gave the mushy peas back. Paying for a small pot of peas additional to your meal is a strange one and at £1 per small pot a bit steep I think. On a plus - the meat in the pies was cooked lovely and the fish was white. Hate leaving bad reviews but cold atmosphere, tepid food makes a happy person pretty miserable.

Visited the Black Horse for the first time today for Sunday lunch. We had a gorgeous beef dinner, all home-made. Yorkshire puddings, beef and gravy all beautiful! Staff are amazing, managed to book us in on New Year’s Eve and save us a dinner even thought they where super booked. Desserts were lovely too. I had sticky toffee pudding with custard and my husband had chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. The pub itself is so welcoming and cosy, fires lit fairy lights. We noticed a few people had ordered baguettes, hot and cold and also the lasagne looked amazing!! So we will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Overall 10/10 from us.

This was a lovely pub in a quiet little village, which seemed very popular. The staff were very nice and friendly and there was plenty of seating outdoors and some indoors. This pub is dog friendly, indoors and outdoors. It was very clean, and the food was of descent portions. There is even a dog hydration station outside. The only reason I gave a lower mark was that my wife's steak was a little chewy, which in all fairness could have been the steak and I wanted a medium steak and it was a bit well done. Overall, though this is a lovely pub and would recommend

First time visiting the Black Horse, and very disappointed. Ordered the beefburger, chips, onion rings and salad, the onion rings were unavailable and the salad was lettuce leaves and a couple of pieces of red onion, the beef burger was over cooked and tough, and couldn't get the knife to cut the bread bun, it was so hard, chips were just ok. The other meal ordered was steak pie, chips and peas, the steak pie was reasonable, chips were just ok and peas like bullets! These meals were not cheap @ £12.50 each.

We had hoped to eat there but unfortunately they were unable to serve food as they were referring the kitchens. The pub itself is very friendly and welcoming, the landlady and landlord are both very friendly and helpful. The managers work so hard so I feel a little heartless putting this place down, but they seem tired of it all and irritable - a welcoming smile is a long way from their thoughts. Food is perfectly ok, possibly overpriced - I haven't caught up with pub meal inflation so that might be me.

Pre booked for 6-30 we waited a good 3 minutes at bar to get served (no staff about), staff very friendly, after 5 minutes she took our order we both had the same, was busy in the pub but not told there was a bit of a wait, after three quarters of an hour i asked is it much longer, she apologized and said won't be long, she came back apologies again and said they would knock something off our bill, after over an hour we got served, the mashed potato was a bit lumpy but the sausages were very tasty, she did knock the drinks off the bill, staff very friendly but the hole experience was disappointing.

Very unwelcoming experience. We walked in as a family and dog as was told this pub was dog friendly. No hello or how can we help, I asked the lady behind the bar if it was ok to sit anywhere to her response, It’s going to be around a 40 minute wait for food (not even a hello at this point). I checked with my other half and went back to say not a problem to which she upped the time to a 50 minute wait now. She made us feel unwelcome and not wanting the business. It was very quiet with only 2 tables of people. We didn’t bother staying to eat and won’t be returning

Good selection of delicious food on the menu, all extremely tastey. Made us welcome including our Colliepoo Ollie who loved the pubs selection of doggie treats. Stuart's handy village shop (run from a little shed in the beer garden) selling essentials at bargain prices also helped us out during our stay. Sorry you got busy when we had to leave and as such we weren't able to say thank you in person but thank you for your hospitality Stuart and wish you, your staff and the pub health and every happiness and a prosperous future. The owners were kind enough to squeeze us in on the evening of Thursday 26th when we were out of dining options in Hornsea. My daughter's pizza (for a child was perfect), the 3 adults had the korma - one meat, two vegetarian. The quality of the vegetarian wasn't perhaps as good as it could have been especially as the aubergine was rubbery. However, it was served well with rice, naan bread, poppadom and mango chutney. Good quality puddings and quick service made it worth the trip.
