We stayed at the Black Swan over the August bank holiday weekend in the Black Swan room. All the staff at reception and in the restaurant were very cheerful, helpful and welcoming. Our room was large and the bathroom had a bath and a shower so no clambering into the bath to have a shower. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice. We had dinner on each of the three nights and we were more than happy. As a Gluten Free diner the staff took great care to note what Incould and couldn’t eat. We would definitely return in the future.

Staying here for what we needed, relaxing break!! The hotel seamed well maintained but could be improved. Our bedroom was large , fairly clean. Bathroom had some sort of leak ( hence photo) bad smell also in the toilet. Shower gel very small only a one person amount for two people. This room cost £170 . What we didnt know that this pub is very very noisy. Function on in the room below, loud music followed by loud voices until 12 pm. Chris on reception was very rude and needs some customer service training, when I ask if they had a quieter room . Breakfast, no menu, little help yourself buffet and full English told to you by a waiter. Food average, since noted it only has a food hygiene 2 star but still displays 5 star !! Would not recommend or return

We have just returned from a family meal and overnight stay at the Pub and could not fault it in any way. The meal was excellent, friendly, helpful staff and there was a lovely friendly family atmosphere. Brilliant play area for the children. Our room was spotless and very comfortable and we had a wonderful full english breakfast the next morning. All in All we highly recommend a stay here and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Wouldn't even give it a 1 star review, Staff was SO rude from the minute I walked in, all stood around the bar having sly comments. When I asked to order something from the dessert menu at 9:30pm I got told the kitchen was closed when it advertised 9:45 was the kitchen closing time, because the chefs was too busy watching the match, disgusting service and will not be returning.

Good play ground for kids. Probably excellent just to have a drink on a sunny day. Food sadly disappointing. Had I not had a blue light card (20% off) I would have been very disappointed. Food was rushed out despite it being early evening and not busy. Can’t say their famous kebab was anything special and at £19 the food is overpriced. I had seen the MEN article.. massive misrepresentation.

Visited today with family, great service and Sunday lunch. Beef tender, turkey was moist and pork again was great not dry. Desserts where excellent and the curly wurly cheesecake was delicious. Will visit again now we have found you.

Very disappointed we used to come here as a family for many years, the food was home cooked and amazing. Our recent experience was very different frozen chips and burgers beef and veggie with no relish sides very basic.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Black Swan. Excellent food in really lovely surroundings. Sunday roast dinner was excellent value for money. Would 100% recommend it, and we'll definitely be back.

Really poor show! Restaurant offered no salad which I haven't heard of in years and given the cost it was ridiculous. Poor value and choice. Not good fayre more Mutton dressed as lamb. ( To be fair, the chap on the desk was really good but his female assistant was at best... wanting!

I stayed here with my partner for New Year's Eve and the room was clean and spacious. Dog friendly too, so we were able to bring our dog which was great. Staff are lovely.

Absolutely terrible. Service was poor. The Manager "Martin" known by he locals as 'The Fat Controller" was unhelpful, rude and obstructive. We ordered from the set menu and were informed that we could not have desert due to a function. Hotel room was cold, almost as cold as the Manager! Several locals stated that they would not eat in the restaurant due to poor quality of food. How very sad given the location and potential for this business. Terrible service, terrible attitude, staff petrified of the Manager.

We had an early dinner at the Black Swan. The restaurant was calm and quiet and the standard of service was excellent. The food was freshly cooked and was delicious with a good choice of hearty winter dishes and lighter options.

Lovely place to take my mum for her 75th birthday meal, staff very friendly and attentive, no complaints a good time was had by all.

Food is overpriced, went on a Sunday for the roast food came out dry and when I brought it up to the staff they were rude and very blunt with us. A lot of eye rolling and one lady said something to their colleague as they walked away with our food. The only positive to this pub is the decoration is lovely and the scenery with the pond is also lovely, but the service is terrible as a family. We understand that Sunday can be busy and stressful, but it was very poor. this is not somewhere to be taking your children if you are trying to bring them up with manners as the staff clearly have none. And their attitude is appalling to the general public.

I couldn't believe that a pub offering accommodation closed its bar at 8 even to residents. Food was poor. Mushroom Goulash starter was one and a half small mushrooms in a sauce which seemed to be just tinned tomato. Trio of bread wasn't fresh just microwaved to conceal that it was stale. Batter on the fish was extremely greasy

Popped in for lunch as passing and hadn't been for a few years. Fish Friday offer so both had fish & chips. Best fish and chips either of us have had for ages. Fish fresh with crisp batter and great chunky perfect chips. Other meals being served to diners looked nice as well. Will be back. Service was excellent as well.

A group of six of us booked for a tribute night. The George Micheal tribute looked nothing like him and was just OK compared to other GM tributes, We would not watch him again. The food however was very poor. Soup, dry chicken with boiled potatoes and cheap veg and a piece of chocolate cake. There were no alternatives. Would rather pay more for a ticket and get better quality and a choice of menu. Very disappointing for £180

Lovely Sunday roast, nicely presented, crisp Yorkshire, fresh and tasty, love the extra gravy in a separate boat. One of the best I’ve had.

Popped in for some lunch after a little dog walk. As we called in early, we waited for the lunchtime menu and had a brew. Lovely and clean. Dog friendly. Throughly enjoyed the £12 for 2 courses. The roast was gorgeous and the jam roly poly was even nicer. Totally worth the money. An enjoyable, relaxed and tasty few hours. Will definitely return. ( Molly dog enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding and meat gravy).

Great pub and good atmosphere. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Our visit was made extra special by Kelly who looked after us and made our afternoon out more memorable. Will definitely visit again ☺

We stayedfor a night, room excellent, food even better plenty of choice, I have coeliac disease so I had gluten free fish and chips probably the best I have ever tasted. Breakfast was just as good plenty of choice, nothing too much trouble all the staff wonderful, this is definately a little gem. We will be back

Stayed here, room was superb deluxe, better than photos. Had dinner and breakfast, can’t recommend higher, their fish n chips was the best I’ve tasted. Overall fantastic stop off in a beautiful part of the country

Complained to the manager but never received any reply !Dear Mr. HughesAfter waiting almost 12 months since dining inside a restaurant we really looked forward to dining at The Black Swan on the first day of the lifting of restrictions, the 17th of May.Also the date coincided with my wife's birthday so I booked a table for my son, his wife and our two grandaughters.We have dined there on a few occasions previously and we also had meal in the garden area when it was not permitted to eat inside.On that day It was a basic menu and the waitress actually stated that there would be a much more extended menu when people were allowed to dine inside the restaurant.On the 17th of May we could'nt believe that it was the similar basic menu and thet there were NO starters to choose from.Apart from that the food was not of a good standard, one of our party had chips which were obvioulsy frozen and that were hard and only warm inside and the chicken on the 3 hanging kebabs that were ordered were dry.On reflection we should have not ordered and should have cancelled and left the restaurant.The staff and service was very good and they were actually apologetic.Finally, I feel that we were totally misled and should have been advised on the menu before arriving.I would appreciate your comments.

The food was overpriced would of rather gone weathers spoons because the standard of food was terrible. I ordered a the beef burger which taste like a frozen burger it was very dry. It was the same price as five guys and Archie’s which is much nicer, there burgers and juicy & flavoursome. Honestly would not recommend anyone to eat here unless you like bland dry food Don’t waste your money.

Couldn't have asked for more. We called here for a treat as we haven't been out for ages, thinking that we could sit outside and have our meal if needs be. There was no need, although there is a marquee set up as an option. The social distancing was brilliant, hand sanitising stations to hand, staff were great and all masked. We both had the chicken kebabs and these were cooked to perfection. They had cask ale for the hubby and great wine for me too. It brought a bit of normality back into our lives again!! We love visiting the black swan. Every time we visit the black swan we stay over. It’s the perfect place to have a meal a drink and a night away. The place has a lovely feel about it and the food is faultless. We last visited here for new year and have not be able to visit since but I’m glad to say we’ve provisionally booked in for this year. The rooms are beautiful and they doo one of the best breakfast!

Dined here yesterday and was shown to our table by a friendly member of staff menus do seem to be limited at the moment, our order was taken and our food arrived fairly quickly. The food was good I can recommend the steak pie. After we had eaten our meal it was hard to get the attention of staff to order a desert or then to get the bill it did look like they where short staffed though! However this hasn’t put us off I’m sure we will be back.

Not an extensive menu, had the fish and chips, nice fish and the batter was light, Wife had the chicken hanging kebab which was nice, could have done with a bigger flat bread, overall a nice setting, very clean and socially distanced. Nice waiting on staff, very attentive and keen to please. Seems like a good place to have a decent meal, would not go for a special occasion. Wish Tripadvisor would insert another rating, not average but not very good. But good.

Text for a drink is not the fastest going. Bar prices for area are a little over the top at near £4 a pint of lager. Alice the bar maid is a credit to the place and it is a pleasure to have her serve us. Play area is brilliant for the kids lovely place to chill out in the warmer months. We always stay outside and never eat due to food / bar snack prices.

You would think that in these Covid times all these moaning whingeing landlords would appreciate custom. Shortly after the pubs reopened my wife and I, both in our 60's visited the pub after a visit to local cemetery. Met by miserable male who I presume was the boss who sent us back round through the car park to enter through the rear door. Here we were confronted by bossy female who gave us the rules and regs. Then directed us outside to eat. It was raining! Second visit to see if this was one off. Approached via rear door, same attitude, another miserable staff member. If it wasn't for my wife spotting a long lost friend we would have left, so had brief drink then left within 20 minutes on a sunny afternoon. Yesterday was 3rd and final visit. Met by another bossy female member of staff who again was completely over the top especially with face masks as people were dining at nearby tables without masks. I was asked to put on my mask on in a very brusque manner only to see a female member of staff exit the kitchen not wearing one despite this being an area that prepared food, and was nibbling food so she obviously picked food up! We were asked 'dining or drinking' and we went to sit at a table because they only served via the app. The app details 'were on the tables', but guess what? They weren't, just like they weren't on our second visit on a orebious date. So, face mask in pocket we left again. This is a nice pub, or it used to be, but the staff are the most ignorant, rude staff I have encountered for years. Never set foot in it again. You would think landlord/managers would welcome trade, obviously not in Hollins Green.

Of 5 meals, not 1 was good. Bland, minimal and even a simple burger had half a slice of tomato. Staff seemed uninterested and we were rushed to leave. Not a cheap evening. Dont be fooled by the pictures.

Lovely settings, just a shame about the staff..The staff were so rude, I came in the bar to get a menu as I was going to order some food, to be told what are you doing in here, your not allowed in here. I had my mask on, followed the guidelines etc..I got the impression they didn’t want my custom.

Went as a family of 4 for Sunday lunch. Really good food, 3 of the family had the roast which they all enjoyed and claimed the best Yorkshire pudding they had had in a restaurant. I had the steak and ale pie which was delicious with lovely crisp shortcrust pastry. To finish the apple crumble was a delight. Well worth a visit.

Booked a table here for five of us and a socially distanced one for two others So, Covid-19 stuff first. Throughout the whole time we were in the pub the staff were masked up and there are hand sanitizing stations around the pub. Impressed with how well they are handling this. Food-wise, we ordered a roast dinner, steak and ale pie, chicken salad, halloumi salad plus some kids meals. Everything looked and tasted great. The steak pie was a proper one with pastry all round and not just a flaky pastry lid and the steak was cooked perfectly. The kids had fish and chips with the fish freshly prepared. All meals were of a generous size and came with a good selection of sides and vegetables. We then had a range of desserts, all of which were very good quality. Hats off to the staff who were working incredibly hard throughout our visit.

Went for a walk and stopped at the Black swan for a drink and food and what can say but amazing.Food was lovely and Sophie who served us was outstanding as a very hot day but nothing to much trouble for her Will definitely be coming back

Family meal and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was . Kids meals were lovely & fresh. I had lemon pepper chicken salad & it was cooked well with a lovely dressing. Other family members had the pie & roast dinner and enjoyed them.Waitresses wore face masks & there is hand sanitizer before you enter the restaurant.

We visit this lovely pub at least once during the summer months as my son loves the outdoor play area. They have a huge zip wire, climbing frame, slides and swings as well a football pitch.The food is usually fabulous gastropub affair but today the food was poor. I had the peri peri flat bread which was a huge doughy flst bread, greasey salad leave, a huge amount of red onion and a poultry amount of cold wafer thin chicken with no peri peri insight. My son's burger was highly processed and poor quality.The other disappointment that only dawned on me when I got home was none of our details were taken for track and trace and neither were any other tables.We will probably return but only because my son loves the play area.

Really nice hote. Food was nice and staff friendly. Booked to stay again on a tribute night and asked friends too. need a bigger, Cooler room next time though as although a fan was provided the room was too warm with small windows.

I suppose most restaurants irrelant of reputation and cuisine are coping with change. The Black Swan falls into that category. It was always a decent pub restaurant but on my visit of 16 July the staff were still unsure, hesitant and fairly clueless. Example 1- tried to enter from carpark but asked to go round to front, met by male who told me to go round to back where I would see a text number to send my order through. No text number but approached by friendly female who brought menus and took order. Example 2- social distancing in and out of pub non existant despite clear signs, arrows and taped off areas. Completely ignored by most of clientele. Not supervised by staff. Food looked half decent and hot when staff bringing to table. Back there this week with family meal so let's wait and see.

Just been today, Sunday 12th July at around 2pm - rubbish service. First round came and we asked for menus for food. Got the menus and ordered food and two coffees (you send a text for your order) 15 min later and no food or coffee. Asked about our order and apparently they don’t serve coffee and no food if you sit on grass (why not just say so instead of giving us a menu on first place?!? ‍♀️). People next to us got food (and they sat on grass?!?). Complained and the guy was very defensive - blaming it on convid-19 and how it was all new to them... ehmmmmm no, just train your staff not to give menus where you won’t serve food and ping a text back or at least have signs up explaining that you don’t even have coffee!!! Don’t come telling me you have 20 orders on text and you can’t keep up with the demand. ‍♀️ and dont get rude with complaints.... I’m wasn’t being unreasonable.... If you want to get messed about and sit for ages with no drink the please do go, they have a lovely beer garden... but perhaps bring your own drinks and snacks as service is slow.... if you get served that is... ‍♀️Shame

Popped in here for a few drinks on Friday evening as we were staying in the area, we had our two dogs with us and they so welcomed by the staff and the lovely manager who got us water for them and lots of doggie treats! The pub is very lovely, we loved the atmosphere and music, drinks were really reasonably priced! We also shared one of the sharing platters which was absolutely delicious! We had a great time here and would 100% recommend and return!

This was our first visit here with friends and would definitely return.Upon arrival the reception staff were very helpful and pleasant.We had a 5 course set Valentines meal at dinner which included a bottle of wine for two for £49.95, it was lovely and they could have charged more!!The rooms were very clean and comfortable.Thank you for a lovely night away.

We visited with some friends and were very disappointed. There were a number of items they had run out of on the menu, making choosing difficult. There was only one item left on the Specials Menu which is the menu several of us like. Service was poor, particularly slow, possibly because a party of 18 were in who took up their attention. We have all visited this venue several times before but we are not too sure about the future.Our first visit, about two years ago, was the best. What has changed?

Met up for a pretty late lunch - didn't get here until 2.ish and it was relatively quiet over that period with a number of the tables finishing up and then a second wave came in for early teas later on.Very nice waitress who explained to us what was available and chatted happily about what the best options were ( in her opinion) and as we tasted some of her suggestions, I can go along with what she recommended. I had a very enjoyable salad and the ice cream is proper farm ice cream. My friend and I had a really good catch up, chatting the whole time. There is plenty of space here so if you want a big family do, it's a great place to come.I haven't had a meal here for sometime and felt it had lost a bit of time its mojo but this meal gave me some confidence back.This is a lovely pub in a great spot, especially on a summers day. I often come here to the quiz on a Wednesday night and there are great walks from here, with leaflets by the back door. Good community feel to it.

Called in for breakfast but didn't get the friendliest of welcomes from the receptionist. Felt like we were a burden interrupting their quiet time. Food was average and not the most relaxing places to eat just shoved in the bar with staff chatting loudly, music blaring and hoovers humming away.

We booked a table for 5 and the food was amazing, great portion sizes and quality was superb. Look forward to coming back again soon, service was good. Always a lovely place to visit and eat.
