Wetherspoons, The Friar Penketh in Warrington

Had a fantastic time with my wife, made very welcome by staff, atmosphere was great everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, Manager was lovely & was working very hard on the floor making sure food was going out & tables being cleaned for other customers

The atmosphere was good in here, it was busy so took a while longer to get our drinks that we ordered on the app. We didn't try the food and could easily find a seat.

A very interesting building on two floors. Quiet. Excellent service. Food good.Will return if ever in Warrington again. Just another wonderful Spoons.

Had burger and chips x2 Got one of our orders wrong and then when we mentioned it, they responded saying that we didn't say with cheese - when we did - think it was just that one staff member who was rude everyone else was lovely. Paid for a single slice of cheese. Chips were cold, burger was disgusting. Complained and offered a new meal - so much better. Overall just a awful experience.

Tranquil for a Tuesday late afternoon, good service , professional staff

Sad is the only word that accurately describes our experience at this pub. The food was terrible, the burgers dry and papper thin, we should have gotten McDonald's! We ordered -burgers and got a slice of meat between 2 buns, no cheese to be found for a mile. As for the service, counting is clearly not a skill requirement as we ordered 2 and got 1, we had to reorder, honestly why go there, just stay home. The place is big and looks nice so perhaps it has seen better days but right now it definitely needs some TLC to get back on its feet.

I've eaten at lots of weatherspoons but the meal on new year's eve this year was terrible

Myself and my partner went for breakfast with his son on Boxing Day and it was one the worst experiences we’ve ever had from a spoons. The cups were filthy so my partner ended up washing the cups himself from the upstairs glass collection point which was filthy and full of beer flies.. he ordered the veggie breakfast which came with half the items missing when he complained they brought the back the same food with the missing items that had been left aside in the kitchen but were really overdone and inedible, when my partner complained the lady working snatched the plate from him and didn’t even give him an apology they finally brought back the right order with the amended missing items but the rest of the breakfast was stone cold as they’d clearly just left the plate there whilst fixing the order to the pint where he’d had to complain a 4th time about a veggie meal which isn’t difficult to put out and had to ask them to just microwave the lot again because we’d been waiting half hour for a simple veggie sausage beans tomatoes mushrooms and toast to be ready heated and corrected with the hash browns if never seen anything like it! The carpets hadn’t looked liked they’d been cleaned and there had been an empty coffee cup and beer glass sat on at able on a quiet service for 3 hours between the time I’d gone in at 9:30 for a coffee and done shopppiny before coming back in with the other two for food. My eggs Benedict with mushroom however was nice and the son enjoyed his wrap it’s just a shame about the customer service and cleanliness

Had a lovely meal for 2. Little bit of an issue with the app. Think it was bad internet.

Spoons brekky! Spoons lunch! Spoons tea! Pints pints pints! What's not to love? Cheap good food, cheap good booze and always gets a good turnout. 👍🏼

Terrible ,they told me to sit on a table and it took them long time to clean the table after they brought the food. We literally had to keep our plates up for the table to be cleaned. Food is extremely oily, extremely bad service, keep away

A pleasant Friday evening spent with friends, a short wait for food, fast and friendly service at the bar.

Reasonable and affordable restaurant

It is a Wetherspoons, meets the Ronseal Standard. You know what to expect. Staff friendly, chatty, a great meeting point. Travelled to meet family, quiet (can hear yourself think ;-) on a Thursday pm, comfy, clean, a bit of a reckkie. Space to hold a larger gathering / meeting of family only four of us but have done twenty plus in past elsewhere. Three mins walk from cheap affordable parking in Times Square.

Always busy town centre Wetherspoons. Good selection of ale. Food to usual Spoon's standard.

Could do with more staff at the bar

I am doing a fruit and vegetable diet and was wondering if I would find something "nice" to eat here. I ordered a noodle soup which was so delicious. It was really really tasty. Very glad we stopped here for a bite to eat.

Who is the chef in this joint? He,or she ( can you call a women chef? Or is it chefette?) Who knows. Anyhoo, only ordered a plate of chips but 👌 Crispy, sure,fluffy on the inside, you better believe they were, all washed down with a pint of the amber nectar. Get this person on master chef, tout suite.

Large mixed grill was too big but all good food

Saturday lunch time very quiet but still had to wait 45 mins for food. No clean cups available again had to wait until they were washed. Food eventually came which was cold, not impressed

Ordered chips and curry, over £5 hardly any curry sauce, half of the chips were over cooked too, would eat here again 😔

Got to rate this as one of the worst spoons I've ever been to. Came here for breakfast before creamfields. The eggs were miles over done, The black pudding was rock solid, only gave me 2 small bits of butter for me toast. The pint tasted bitter and flat. I waited to be served for about 15 minutes it's as if the bar staff picked their favourites and served other people who queued up after I did.

Bar staff need to concentrate on which customers need serving next...nothing worse than waiting to be served then bar staff attend to someone who came after you...then proceed to doubt your word when you point this out!

Came out after months of not going out with friends Sat upstairs and staff opened all the windows sat here for over 45 minutes With wind blowing Lamp shade blowing with the breeze Asked staff to close a few of them Refused I thought it was a customer enjoyment Not staff Won't be coming again soon😡😡

Relax atmosphere and nice staff

The chips weren't nice, but everything else was good. We ate with family, including 2 children. The chicken wraps were delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It's good the children have fruit options too.

I've never had the food from the spoons in warrington but the service is fast and there's no faffing around, its got a great atmosphere its not to quite and not to loud get a bit busy but not as busy as some I've been to. It's also very clean the glasses are clean as well and so are the tables

Went here for a couple of drinks before getting food and was quite shocked. I didn’t expect anything to be too fancy as it wasn’t a fine dining place but didn’t expect SEVERAL dirty glasses either. My boyfriend had gotten a lager and had what looked to be old food on the bottom of the glass. I ordered a cherry pepsi and was met with finger marks all inside the glasses.

Over 1 hour waiting for hamburger, nobody warned us that take so long. Finally meal wasn't tasty.

A bit disappointing. I went to what was one of the best Wetherspoons in Warrington centre but it was one that had been sold, post Brexit. I walked half a mile to another and a big screen showing football was on at one end (not for me, thanks) so I got a coffee and went to the far side of the bar. The coffee (shown) was supposed to be a milky coffee, but was strong, black. The tables were strewn with menus and food debris and an open bottle of vinegar. I ordered food using the app. A glass of apple juice was plonked unceremoniously on the table, without so much as a grimace. It had ice which I had specifically requested to 'remove', as it affects my teeth. I shouted the waitress back but she ignored me. The food (jacket potato and tuna mayonnaise) arrived without the table being cleared or cleaned, and was generous in proportions, but the salad had seen better days.

Had a chicken tikka was charged extra for a garlic naan I didn’t ask for when my food arrived asked for a plain naan as I did not ask for the garlic naan she said yes of course I’ll have them bring another one out and never did one lady with dark hair was lovely but the other lady said the kitchen just didn’t make the naan bread as I had finished my food.

Poor attitude. Ordered cheeseburger. When it came it wasn't a cheeseburger. I told the waitress there is no cheese on a burger and then she offered to bring a cheese to put on myself. I asked her if she could take it and put cheese on it. On return she slammed the plate on the table without any acknowledgement. Because of this service I asked for my money back which they refused - no customer rights. I've asked for the lady's name and she refused to give it to me and I don't have proof of the purchase as they don't give you a receipt. Apparently she was a manager and couldn't speak to someone else. I've been fan of Wetherspoon's for many years and I have spent a lot of money at this chain but I won't go in this pub again. I don't deserve to be treated like this and I'm disappointed.

I had a wonderful experience at Friar Penketh today! The food was amazing, and I enjoyed a delightful conversation with Rhys, a fantastic fellow, about the upcoming ales. The staff provided excellent service, and I'll definitely be returning soon.

Spent the afternoon at The Friar while waiting to see a gig at Parr Hall. We had a wrap and chips with a drink and it was delicious. Despite the place being jammed to the rafters, the staff were friendly, helpful and the food arrived in good time. The pub was clean and the tables hade been wiped down before we reached our table. All in all, we had absolutely no complaints we'll certainly visit again next time we're gigging around the corner.

Good food excellent service with good drinks

I like coming in here for a drink, cos it's great value and relaxing, especially upstairs. But last time I was in on a Thursday afternoon, I went upstairs to get served, only to be told there's no one serving. So went downstairs and queued for 10 minutes and the old man behind the bar looked really miserable and the young woman said it's app only upstairs and they were short staffed. Needs more staff on a busy afternoon.

Overall, my fav drinking and eating place in Warrington. Ok, they have their problems now and then but hey that's life. Great ale, nice food and can be a very relaxing place to pass the afternoon

Our food and drink orders have always been correct however you can't always guarantee getting your steaks cooked as ordered. Table service can take a while and have had them "forget" to bring drinks ordered via the app but once mentioned to them, they rectify it. Staff aren't always the best, a few have a face on, never crack a smile and are basically unapproachable whilst others are the total opposite. Kind of luck of the drawer

Young lad Josh served me and was fantastic. Very fast service and friendly! Made the visit with my Mrs stress free and lovely!

I only popped in for a quick drink before meeting someone. I preferred the other Spoons in Warrington that was sold. The Friar is just off the main drag (back of the market). Nice in the summer with outside seating.

Great spoons this one. Tucked away down a side road in warrington, this place is our go to bar on regular nights out in the area. Prices , obvioulsy , are great, staff are happy and chatty. always a great experience when we go there.

Went here for a friend’s 18th birthday. The staff were very friendly, I got chatting to the girl who served us at the bar. She was lovely, I hope she’s having a good time right now. The food was also really good in my opinion: I got pasta, it was very tasty. Only downside is that, being a spoons, the atmosphere was loud and honestly a little bit overwhelming.

Food was alright, chips were abit bland one or two under cooked. Atmosphere loud as to be expected. Service was spot on cannot fault them.

Prior to this visit there was an elderly man working there , who was collecting glasses delivering meals and putting empty glasses in the glass washer , and to top it all was serving drinks while the younger staff members were stood about. The man deserves a medal 🏅 ten out of ten

Good and experienced, polite staff. The food was good, not much impressed by the quantity but impressed by the quality. I had a boneless bucket and chips. Boneless bucket- You will get two kinds of chicken around 8 chicken small to medium-sized pieces and colesau. Enjoyed it! Love to visit again and try other items.

Quite a nice looking place for a weatherspoons I ordered a drink and the glass just stunk of washing up liquid which put me off drinking it Majority of the staff were really friendly except the one big tall guy who was taking drinks and food out (I assume is the manager or works in the kitchen) has zero customer service skills, just grunts and doesn't acknowledge customers I did have to ask about drinks that I ordered 20 minutes ago which was promptly delivered to my table

Decent size wetherspoons on two levels with plenty of seating. The food was good and the staff were lovely, will visit again!
