If youre looking for a fun, low-key pub this is the place. Food and drinks are cheap and good. Bar staff are very friendly. Would recommend

Great little pub and music. Service was awesome.

The staff are friendly and lovely. But this is soooo not a Music bar, this is a tourist trap, with prices to match - £7+ for a pint of beer!!!!!!! That's almost €10 - that's more than Stockholm, Paris.... ! The description said Goth, Alternative...... When I arrived it was '90's hair rock, then '00's pop punk, then a mix of inoffensive guitar songs. I swear if you stay here for two hours you'll hear something you kinda like. The live guitarist (who was a proper, if playing mostly in his sitting room, musician who knows his instrument) started with two CCR songs, then a Stevie Wonder and then a ballad for a 6+ yr old couple's wedding anniversary; sweet but definitely not Sweet. I advised the guy to play something harder, such as Hammer To Fall, a definite crowd pleaser, but he didn't know it. He went off into an obscure rendition of a n obscure classic. Between the sighs and the 🙄s I ddecided to leave. Oh, did I mention that the crowd was mostly 50+ and numerous groups entered, wandered, left.

The food was dog shit. No flavor. Tasted like something frozen you might cook last minute if you forgot to plan for dinner.

Great local pub, friendly staff with great atmosphere. Enjoyed some cocktails and beers, cheesey chips were fabulous. Definitely return when we visit Edinburgh again.

Ambiance, music and beer are good. But the service wasn't very friendly and not very motivated either. Food edible and ok, but there is much better in Edinburgh. Just great for a drink.

We ate there during the day so not much atmosphere but the beers and dishes were great and the music (80s-90s rock) pleasant.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and a drink before going to a Fringe show. Staff were friendly and helpful, food & drink were good value, especially for Rose St during the festival. Worth a visit.

Great wee pub with a fab selection of drinks and seating area outside

Stopped in on a Wednesday night and had so much fun! It was karaoke, and people loved it. The staff were really nice, the food was excellent (burger with haggis on it, and chili cheese chips (HUGE portion for the price)). Accept credit cards, WiFi is available, plenty of tables and a couple booths in the back.

What a treat! Loved the steak pie, chips & gravy served with an ice cold pint 🍺

Fun casual spot. Staff was engaging and welcoming. Food was solid and the kids enjoyed eating in a pub. Just on Rose St just away from the busiest part of the town.

Food average, table not clean, a bit dreary, staff ok but not particularly hospitable.

It is an excellent sports bar with good food and drinks. I watched the Euro 2024 final game there, and it was a charming atmosphere and a well-behaved crowd.

Nice music and vibe here, beer selection could be a little better. Guinness is decent though.

stopped by to watch the scotland game as the signs outside said they'd be showing it. security outside was a gem and got me extra stools for the family and assured us the big screen would turned on around 30 mins before kick off. had the largest screen on rose street to watch it too, but it was turned off. cut to 5 minutes before kick off and the two bar staff still hadn't turned on the game and were struggling to log onto the computer to get past the login screen ((by the way, might want to rethink the cyber security- "blackrose" is not a strong password for a bar's own pc)). they even roped the poor wee chef into setting up the game who told us he was meant to be tending to four orders in the kitchen, but had been dragged out to help. they finally get the game on but had no audio, completely missing the national anthem while bar staff scrambled to try and get the speakers to work. it's totally fine to dislike the sport, but if you're working somewhere that's advertising to show it; just get properly prepared and carry out your work. i've worked in bars where i wasn't happy about what was being shown too, but a job is a job. bar staff complained about having to switch off music, loudly complained about customers, and were just overall very unprofessional. it's a shame; it's a cool bar with a great scene, but definitely cannot recommend going.

Best Chilli cheese dog I've ever had in the UK and the USA. The other food is really good aswell.the food portions are big for a small price which is really nice. The bathrooms aren't the best but they work and you come for the food anyways. The wifi is very strong aswell.

Try the hunters chicken It is really good but the bathrooms are really bad

Great place. Very diverse. Inexpensive beer selections. Sunday night was open like night with some very talented people.

Seems like a fun place to get drinks. Wouldn't recommend food there unless you're getting an easy app. The chips were pretty good. The water tasted like super watered down flavored something which was kind of off putting. Otherwise it was a cool place and they had a live artist singing while we were there. This place is tiny by the way so if you have a lot of people, good luck.

Food was excellent. Service was great. Very fair prices too. Our server Charlotte was fantastic. Highly recommended on all levels.

A lot of options available for food & drink along with some quiet good old rock music. I enjoyed my time there. Food is cheap compared to anything I had anywhere over my stay in Edinburgh.

Oh my good the Balmoral chicken is to die for, the problem is I’m lactose intolerant and should have asked. I don’t care though it’s so tasty like it is so good. Maybe add some labels to the menu but like I don’t care it’s so tasty. Good price, friendly staff and tasty food

Nice, well located pub. Nice and attentive service staff. We were there on Thursday. On Thursdays there was live music, which created a great atmosphere for the pub guests. Fair prices and good atmosphere!

Terrible bar& Staff.I and my wife ordered a pint of cider each.We decided to have another drink.I went outside to get fresh air .As I was outside Stephen the bar man approached my wife while on her own & informed her it was our last drink. My wife asked why & he informed her I had been stumbling about. I have hearing problems in my ear which affects my balance also another disability. My wife did not tell me of the situation as she didn't want to see upset until we got back to the hotel.We then decided to ring the bar & ask to speak to the manager. They had no understanding of how they had ruined a good night out & came up with sorry excuses. Ovoid at all costs toilets are terrible & unclean also states no dogs allowed but yet a customer had a huge dog which you had push past to order a drink.

Myself and a friend was in the black Rose for some food my friend ordered steak pie with chips when the steak pie came. It was well overcooked she could only eat the pastry when the bar staff came over. We mentioned it to them but they never done anything about it. Next I went to use the bathroom and the bathroom is very dirty in the toilet itself tiles on the floor are absolutely black it need a god clean. We will not be returning to this pub.

My wife and I had a meal with drinks on Saturday. Lovely food, good beer, staff very friendly. Definitely be back.

Alone in Edinburgh, walked in for a pint (4). I couldn't have hoped for a warmer and more welcoming Team. Spent a couple of hours in great company, Stewart and Craig,behind the bar, and even the chef, Tony, made me feel like a regular. Their employer is lucky to have such affable staff. Going back for more soon! No food sampled.

As the bar was advertising the rugby we decided to stop off to watch. Obviously the bar was busy due to the beginning of the 6 nations. We found a table luckily asked for it to be cleaned so we could order food and eat, that never happened, luckily I had wet wipes in the bag so I did it myself. The food came out quickly and was quite tasty so I can't complain there. When the rugby started we asked for the sound to he turned up, we were told NO as this would impact in the music. We weren't the only ones to ask this, pretty much the whole bar were requesting the same to no avail. My partner then played the game machine, luckily won a considerable amount only for the machine to not pay out, went for assistance and the bar staff took a contact number, and claimed that we may be called in a couple of days, as we will be travelling home we suggested reimbursement from the till. Apparently that is not allowed and no-one had authority to to this. By this time we had had enough. One of our party witnessed drug taking in the ladies bathroom, so we left. Would we return? I think not. Will the large amount of winnings appear, I very much doubt it 🤔

Called in as we saw jacket potatoes on the menu came inside and it's exactly what it says in the description dark wood low lightning even during the day we both had BBQ chicken panini's I had the chilli cheese chips with mine as extras my friend had just cheese on hers we were both pleasently surprised at such a small kitchen producing tastey food chilli was not too spicy We both left clean plates we will definitely be back when next in Edinburgh

The atmosphere is nice even if the slot machines don't have much to do with the style. Nachos with haggis very good and generous portion (and very spicy)

Best pub for a fun Wednesday night out. Weekly karaoke fun for everybody. Great place to end the night with some good beer and fun singing. Don't worry about not hitting the right note as this is part of the fun here. Friendly staff that also takes occasional turns on the mic.

Interesting alternative style bar, however cocktails are really weak, with a pitcher containing one double shot of premixed spirits, not good value at all.

Terrible Service. Wet Sunday afternoon. Looked for pub we could sit in with small puppy and have a drink while waiting for the wives to finish their shopping. Before ordering drinks I asked the barman if it was ok to have the dog in here. He said yes and served us drinks. Then a waitress told us we couldn’t stay with the dog. I explained the barman had said it was ok. Then another lady, possibly manager came and told us we need to leave. I asked for refund on the drinks we had not even started drinking. She asked who gave us permission and I pointed out the barman. He denied it and she called me a liar in front of all the customers. Apparently the barman had worked there for a long time and was more trustworthy than me who she had never met before. If you love dogs avoid this pub. Rude staff who accuse you of lying.

Visited this pub twice during our visit to Edinburgh. Loved the rock n roll decor. Staff were friendly and enjoyed drinks there. Good option when in Edinburgh.

Nice placer, nice food and even nicer people!

Been here a few times and always enjoy! Enquired about booking a table last week for a birthday and they came back very quick. Although they didn’t have capacity to accept the booking they still suggested they were having a Halloween event and to come along anyway! We did this and we’re so glad we did. The atmosphere is always amazing and there was karaoke this time which was good fun. The bar staff and bouncers are always a good laugh and happy to chat away to us

Nice little bar/food place. Bartender was server. Food was ok. Little less hot than we prefer. They couldn't/ wouldn't make my drink of choice.

This place was amazingly cold, I can't believe they wouldn't switch on the heating.

Toller Pub mit Live-Musik, tolle Atmosphäre und das Balmoral Chicken war sehr lecker! Die Mitarbeiter waren außerdem sehr freundlich. Bei der Halloween-Deko wurde sich auf jeden Fall Mühe gegeben!

Went here for a karaoke night while on our honeymoon in Edinburgh, had an absolute slapper of a time. Made some new friends, avoided some sketch balls, and drank like it was going out of style. 100/100 would go back.

Popped in on a Friday evening. Turns out it was karaoke night - all I can say is that I have no idea how a bar can afford to have karaoke like this which drives away customers. The bar was so empty about an hour after karaoke. We stayed, of course, for the pure entertainment of it all. At one point a blonde long haired male barman decided to get on the karaoke, meanwhile there’s customers waiting to be served. He bumps in to a customer, the customer apologises and the blonde guy says something to the effect of “aye I’ll be bumping back in to yi when I throw yi oot ma pub” - now THAT’s the customer service we all want. After his outburst, The male blonde long haired barman with glasses proceeds to burst into song, a metal track, and I’m sure he hit puberty right there and then. His voice dropped, making him sound like a seagull, and was swiftly followed by some vague attempt at metal screaming. All the while, everyone just staring in amusement. It felt like an episode of Phoenix Nights. Good pint eh Guinness. Good levels of cringe. Everyone of the staff seem sound, apart from the male blonde diva.

Just had a nice couple of glasses of wine, Just nice and relaxing sat outside weather was great.

Très bonne adresse ! Le karaoke est tres sympa, le niveau est haut mais tout le monde est bienveillants avec les débutants et pour les chansons pas forcément en anglais, très bonne ambiance. Le personnel est sympa et les boissons sont abordables

Ok pint and nice vibe. It was busy due to rugby and comedy festival and had to clear tables ourselves, I would hope on normal Saturday this would not be case

Such a great find on Rose St! Jukebox, friendly and chatty staff, very cool ambience and patio for people watching. Try the pie of the day, it’s delicious. We split it, really healthy portion size.

Tuttavia non siamo stati avvisati di questo prima di sederci. Personale poco esperto e poco disponibile. Prezzi esagerati per la qualità del prodotto (hamburger bruciato e patate dure).
