Great live music venue on a Friday night. Good beer, great bands and friendly folk to chat to. Never tried the food there so can't comment on that

Steps to enter and to beer garden. Once inside its level and wheelchair friendly. Helpful staff. Vape friendly, very relaxed atmosphere. Best beer garden in Chester-le-Street apparently accessible without going through the pub and doing the steps

First time we visited in years and we were pleasantly surprised. The interior is good and there is a large beer garden to the back. Choice of drinks was good and reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again.

We have been in a few times since it reopened and I must say it is a good little bar the only negative I would say is the bar service is quite slow and it would be nice if the staff smiled now and then I understand you are working but everyone looks so grumpy all the time 😁

Donna and Martin have brought the proper Black horse back to Chester-le-Street. The most friendly publicans keeping it real, beer is spot on, had a couple of friends down from Newcastle who commented that the Guiness is the best they've had for years! Can't say a bad thing about the pub, the atmosphere, the punters! and an amazing beer garden that reflects how great the place is going , oh and free Pool table on a Tuesday!! Long may it last!

Great place. Martin and Donna are fantastic. Nipped in from a recommendation from 150 miles away and I wasn’t disappointed. Perfect pub, perfect music and perfect staff. When I the area again I’ll 100% be coming here again.

Food took a very long time finally came out cold' raised this issue with the land lady who was very abrupt and rude' absolutely appalling service

Always in for drinks but are now serving food and it was the best food we have had in chester le street for a long time... The loaded fries and burgers are second to none 👌... Definitely will be back

Pub under new ownership, closes 11 August for a full refurbishment. And will be serving food when reopened in September. Great couple running pub. Recommended.

The staff are fantastic the beer is even better what more do you want from a pub.

I'm an ole git and a 'Southerner' who has recently moved up here and have run from the Funeral Parlour Type Pubs that have consumed the south. Plastic Gastro Pubs that have the atmosphere of a Chernobyl's Reactor Room. I was over the moon discovering The Black Horse, a pub with no coffee machine taking centre place, just a good ole proper pub. Yes it has its characters but it has great beer, good staff and generally a great atmosphere. If you want a coffee and a quiet drink, find a friggin coffee shop!

Great atmosphere started off about 3 with live singer and finished with karaoke. Brilliant day

A unexpected treat this bar is realy nice ,all vintage when we got inside, from the outside looked a bit like an 'old man's pub ' but wasn't not too expensive neither good range of gins to offer and John smiths for my hubby 😀

Google would not let me put no stars!!!!! Attended this place Sunday for about 5 minutes not even that. Decided not even to buy a drink. All I heard was continuous swearing from what could only be described as the local drunk and a group of men harassing a young girl who worked there with vile comments. Disgusting place one of the worst bars I have EVER ATTENDED. decided to go to Wetherspoons instead. Would rather that all day long.

Visited for some cocktails with my friends and it was lovely. Great choice of drinks , 2 for £12 on a weekend and could mix choice of cocktails. Decor was really nice and modern, and staff were so friendly. Will definitely be going back!

Food was fab my beef and ale pie was lush , .y partner had the Scampi and said it the best food we have had in along time in chester 😋

There was a sign outside saying two cocktails for £9 so my friend and I ordered one each, we were charged £12 due to it being a weekend which baffled us as it was the sign that made us go in. On a positive note the cocktails were lovely, the place is set out in a very comfortable and modern setting and I will definitely be returning.

Looking for somewhere to eat in Chester le Street and came across this little gem. Not been open long since restyle - but service and food great and very good value for money

Beautifully turned out pub - complete with tanquary flower wall for your instagram photos. Cocktails 4* I have had better. But a great atmosphere and really enjoyed our night.

It's been a long time since I've visited the Black Horse. Same layout but a huge difference in the decor and drinks. Some may say its expensive however for the quality of drinks and surroundings its very reasonable. Would absolutely visit again.

Seen lots of stuff on Facebook about this place and it didn’t disappoint we had a sharer cocktail with lots of theatre smoke etc coming out of it, the servers were super friendly and very knowledgeable my new fav place

Top score here since the new owners took over Its real cocktail experience (actual alcohol in the cocktail) Smells great Great atmosphere Great staff No old farts crowding the bar. Make me happy to see Chester alive again I'm giving it the 5/5

Great atmosphere very friendly bar even if your not a regular good music and a karaoke witch if you have the confidence is always a laugh cheap drinks a pool table and a very nice beer garden with plenty of seats and space .. definitely worth a visit

Beer is good with a lovely garden. Why don't they have decent wines though? 😔 This could be a complaint for many pubs, but I would definitely use this place more if I could get a nice glass of NZ sauv blanc.

I don't see a need to play terrible music at 250dB when there is 5 people in the place.

Pool and darts. Drinks are cheap and there are now slush cocktails available too which are good. I believe that they are 2 for £10. Beer garden is quite large too with plenty of seating

One of the last great pubs in Chester le street. Its not the biggest location, but the atmosphere inside is great. The drinks are all reasonably priced, and they have everything you could want. Great beer garden for when the weather is good. Also a pool table which doesn't rip you off for a game

Normally very good,but so busy today barmaid found it hard to cope with the number of customers, running out of glasses, very stressful for her,and customers waiting for a drink.A good juke box and outside seating area,

Expect trouble!! Been today and my cousin was assaulted for apparently pushing in at the bar. My advice... Stay away
