Sammy, Andy & Team - thank you for a special evening. Having lived in the village for 20 years it was fantastic to witness good times returning to the Black Horse. In your short time looking after the pub you have managed to breathe life back into the heart of the community. Special mention to the band, staff and all our fellow Plucktarians that danced the night away and saw in 2025 with a bang. Well done; thank you again. Keep up the good work Rollieclan X

Really lovely meal at The Black Horse last night. Visited with a friend and had tasty halloumi fries with a spicy dip, followed by beef bourguignonne. The beef was locally sourced, tender and delicious. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere good. Will be going again for sure.

If you’re looking for a proper Sunday roast in a cozy countryside pub, The Black Horse in Pluckley is the place to go. I had the lamb roast, and honestly, it was amazing. The lamb was cooked perfectly—soft, juicy, and full of flavor. You could tell they put some real care into it, especially with that herb crust that just made it extra tasty. The roast potatoes were spot on—crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, exactly how they should be. The gravy was rich and delicious, tying everything together perfectly. They didn’t skimp on the sides either. The Yorkshire pudding was big, golden, and great for mopping up the gravy, and the veg was fresh and nicely cooked, not the sad, soggy stuff you sometimes get. The pub itself has such a lovely vibe—really warm and welcoming with a proper countryside feel. The staff were friendly and made sure we were happy without hovering too much. All in all, it was one of the best roasts I’ve had in a long time. If you’re in Pluckley or anywhere nearby, I’d definitely recommend giving The Black Horse a visit. You won’t regret it!

I would have liked to have enjoyed this country pub as it Is very attractive from the outside. Unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. Although the setting and the room are rather pleasant, and the owner.s welcome rather Nice, the food is very average. First the menu doesn.t offre much choice : mainly burgers ! They sarted by offering us a menu that wasn’t available that evening. First disappointment. So we chose a burger and a fish and chips. The meat of the burger was overcooked and dry and the fish was hardly batterred and very small portion. The chips were not very hot and really average. When we asked for more tartar sauce we have been adviced not to ask for a y more as there wasn’t any left ! Finally we decided not to try the deserts and left promising not to return. Bad experience !

Visited today with a friend for Sunday lunch! What a gem! Gorgeous country pub, food was great (we have the pork and turkey roast, all piping hot, and good portions! And extra gravy was a plus!) Followed by desserts and of course wine! Staff were attentive and lovely, cosy inside with the fire going. We went out in the storm to come here and didn't regret! Can't wait to visit again!

First time visiting the black horse staff was polite and welcoming, beautifully owned pub and run business will definitely be back, Loaded fries wasn’t on the menu but got them made with a beautiful layer of pulled pork. And most definitely the cleanest pub toilets I’ve ever seen. Will definitely be back. We wish the owners all the best for the future

If I want a Sunday roast of this standard, I'll ho to Iceland and buy one from the freezer for £1. Charging £18 for that most suited for the bin is a disgrace. Stick to being a pub.

After a long walk in glorious October sunshine we found the pub to be shut at 1pm on a lovely Saturday lunchtime.. hungry and thirsty we phoned the venue and were told that they were closed for staff training and will open at 6.00pm.. ..really on a Saturday!? Fair enough to shut your pub when you wish but at least flag it on website (we had been looking at the website several times in advance for menus etc) for walkers, hungry and thirsty to plan around. We walked on to another pub about 2 miles away which was fortunately open, busy and very good.

Had a very enjoyable lunch last Sunday. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was well cooked and seasoned. Yorkshire puddings were really excellent. Venue has large parking space and level pathways to interior. [If you have mobility issues use the left hand side carpark at the end of the drive] In all excellent value.

Well, we have no idea how others came to the decision that the food is great at this location. It could be misfortune that we went for a Sunday lunch but either way it was awful. The portions were ok but the meat itself had no flavour with the texture and taste that it had been boiled. My husband had the large roast, with 3 different meats and you could not tell the difference between any of them. They were all the same colour which in itself is strange, plus the gravy had no flavour and was as thin as water. Thankfully there is a good portion of veg and the best thing on the plate was the cauliflower cheese. The pub itself is nice and the staff very friendly, it's just a shame that it was the worst sunday roast we have ever had. To top it off we asked for a small portion of chips and beans for our son, because he would not eat the dinner, it came out with peas which he of course would not eat. Why would we order more peas when we had generous portions on the table already. Definitely up there with the worst £50 spent ever.

After a long period of absence we went for drinks here on Christmas Eve. Not a single pump was working and a small bottle of Peroni and an equally small (and disgusting) bottle of Prosecco was charged at £10! The manager was overheard telling another punter that they were “running down the stock” which translates to “we’re going to be closing soon”. Such a shame - this used to be an amazing pub years ago. Mis-management has led to the state it is now in. Bring back the former owners.

I came for a Sunday breakfast with my wife and child last month and had a very poor meal unfortunately. I had the breakfast sandwich, the bacon was tough no hint of being crisp with a layer of unrendered almost raw fat and mostly all barely warm. My kids had the pancakes and were expecting something light and fluffy but they resembled a stodgey scone with no real taste. My wife had a cold poached egg. I dislike leaving a negative review but we were all looking forward to breakfast and at £70 ish not cheap and not worth it. One thing - I had a nice coffee and good service - just very poor food.
