We attended a Wedding at Fulmer and had a two night stay at the BH. The bedrooms were outstanding (as long as you like quirky) and the attention to detail was abundant. We were checked in by a lovely Japanese lady who could not have been more helpful. This applies to all the staff and we loved the Chef who provided our breakfast (unfortunately did not catch his name hails from Madeira) great entertainer! Would we recommend? Without a doubt.

I love this pub. The pub itself, inside and out, is great. But…there’s a but. The food is ok to good, which is fine if it was also priced at that level but it’s way too expensive for what it is. The beer and ale selection is not great. It’s a pity as this place could easily be flawless

Came here for a family 21st birthday lunch in a bubble outside. Heard such great things for years, have been a couple of times but now I definitely would not return. Food was unbelievably overpriced. Two starters were cold when they arrived, when remade they were covered in oil. The service was incredibly slow to start, then when we complained regarding the cold starters, manager didn’t even apologise. The rest of the food was very average, glasses weren’t cleared, bubble we sat in was cold and covered in mould. When we requested blankets they didn’t arrive until half way through our mains after asking multiple times. Generally a very underwhelming experience. Shocked when the bill arrived at the extortionate prices. I had to ask the barman to remove the two sold starters, still no acknowledgement from management. I have worked in pubs for years and I was so disappointed by the service and lack of recognition from management. Such a shame as the pub has so much going for it! What has happened!

On questioning the staff of what exactly we were eating she went into the kitchen to find the contents of the bag were a vegan scampi alternative. Just as well we didn’t have food allergies either as we weren’t asked before we dined. Won’t be going back and does make you wonder what else is being dished up as alternative substitutes.

What an incredible tasting experience. We popped in on our way home. It is a lovely little pub with a farm shop out the back. Different quirky places to sit and a great deal.on 2 courses if you book in advance. The food was to die for. My favourite dish was the mushrooms on toast with mushroom ketchup. Portion sizes are very reasonable and we had to ask for a takeaway box. It is on the expensive side for us (4 adults, 2 courses each cost £175 including tip) but all our dishes were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Wth this quality and level of detail, it was worth the price.

A group of us came for brunch and despite it being quiet, and there being plenty of staff shooting in and out of their hiding places the service wasn't great. We had a variety of cooked breakfasts and other brunch offerings, three people had scrambled eggs that were only borderline cooked and therefor they left them, the toast was huge slabs that were really hard to cut, almost dried as well as toasted, tomatoes were hard. We didn't complain as our purpose was to have a catch up but the plates were cleared without anyone asking us if the food had been ok or querying the amount of left food. Just small details that made it average and maybe stand out a bit for the wrong reasons, the rest of the food on the plates was good. Looking at the reviews recently and my passed experiences of dining here it's clear something has changed. This place was always expensive but the quality of food and service made that acceptable. I hope they read the reviews on here and have a reflect on how to get back to their previous standards.

We obviously went at the wrong time! We arrived around 1pm for anniversary lunch. Drinks arrived promptly-but that was the only thing that did. A starter to share arrived after a long wait, it was OK and homemade spring rolls. Our mains took forever and appeared around 2.20!!! Other tables were waiting ages too. After the long wait a fish and chips and home made sausages appeared. The fish was a small thin piece covered in thick batter, it's saving grace was the batter was crispy at least. The sausages we're very nice though. Other people coming in after us got their food a lot quicker and their fish looked a lot more appetising than my husbands did! We've eaten better and for less money (Chester 2 weeks ago for instance) so will not be rushing back anytime soon. The ambience is good and in the better weather I'm sure the outside seating area is lovely. Service was slow but the girls were rushed off their feet as it was busy.

This morning was the 2nd bad experience I’ve had with The Black Horse in the space of a week. As a pre lockdown regular to this establishment I’m afraid to say it’s gone majorly down hill. On Saturday 24th April I visited for a late lunch for my birthday with family. We ordered drinks and food but was told the food would be a wait due to how busy they were. Not an issue as I understand during these times. The starters arrived and were nice and up to usual food standards. Between starters and mains we had to ask 4 different people for a glass of ice! How hard is it to bring a glass of ice? I also had to ask more than 3 times for drinks that I’d ordered that hadn’t arrived to the table. When the main courses came the waitress dropped both dinners she was carrying all over the table. I understand that accidents happen but she didn’t really apologise and had to be promoted to remove the food and replace the meals. The meals were eventually replaced but were not the same standard as the original meals and the portions were smaller and looked like they had been thrown together with no care. My partner ordered a salad with chicken on top. The chicken was forgotten and by the time they had brought it out we had nearly all finished eating. Both burgers that were ordered had no cheese & bacon in that was requested upon ordering. Again I had to ask more than twice for more drinks that had not come. It seemed to be a common occurrence for us asking for things more than once. This really should be addressed by management as it’s unacceptable. When the bill came we had drinks added onto it that we hadn’t even ordered. I had to challenge the waitress to get these removed. We spent over £400 but felt that due to the poor service we would not be paying the service charge. When challenging to remove it the young lady started to be very rude and abrupt about it us wanting to remove it. She had little if any customer service skills and this is not how paying customers should be treated. Today I also visited for breakfast with my partner and son. We waited ages for food again. When breakfast arrived my partners scrambled eggs on toast looked like a mashed up omelette. The sausages were missing from my full english and my fried eggs were all burnt underneath. When we complained to the waitress she told us that she was sorry but non kitchen staff were working in the kitchen? Why would you use non kitchen staff in the kitchen? To add to insult all the food that was served was stone cold and had to wait another 20 minutes for some cutlery for us to even eat our food and by then it wasn’t worth it. The food was absolutely disgraceful for £30 and I would of been better off going to Wetherspoons. Both occasions have now put me off returning to our local The Black Horse. On conclusion the breakfast/service needs serious improvements. Some of the staff are un professional and rude and need improvements in customer service skills and how to deal with people. I would not recommend The Black Horse to anybody and I will be writing a formal complaint to the manager about my experience as it was totally unacceptable.

Another family and us complained to the Manager who was useless and thought it was ok for this group to carry on having a party and she went to move us outside!! When we said it should be 6 people from the same household with a substantial meal she said she could only go by the information they gave her!! I usually do not have wait or have to ask for drinks when i have been sat at a table for more than 10 min considering there seemed to be more staff than customers . Food did not come out all at once ? Drinks took forever , list goes on i just felt we had to keep chasing them to get what we wanted, even the bill took 3 of them to finally get it for us !!! Bill came and was charged £9.66 service charge . I always tip in here but thats because the waiter /waitress deserves it . But you are having a laugh charging me this today i should off questioned it but company present decided to decline . Real shame because you have gone to great lengths to make your pub so covid proof , place is a shadow of itself and if your staff do not care then why should i ? The 1st time our orders were mixed up, thr bill was wrong and service was slow.Yesterday I went there again and couldn't believe how poor the service was. 30 minutes after seating I had to get up and and order drinks at the bar (I commented on how it looks like we are forgotten about) as no one approached us. We waited for a while and again had to ask if anyone could take our food order and then was told the kitchen is closed! We arrived at 8pm for dinner and after our only option was dessert! Definitely not going there again!

Such a massive shame. Our lunch was failed in so many levels. But the winning failure was the non existent service from lazy staff who couldn't have given less of a @#&* that we were spending money with them. Without hesitation I removed the service charge from our bill and had it not been for the Eat Out to Help Out discount we received on the meal I would have been livid. Such a shame that this appears to be the only place to eat in the area. The setting is lovely. Food average and overpriced for what it is. Service diabolicle. Will not return and we only live in Beaconsfield.

Came here with a group of 9 of us after work for dinner. Was fairly busy the service wasn't great, had to get our own menus, our second order of drinks never arrived so had to collect them ourselves and was told it would take ages for them to take payment at the end so they told us to queue up at the bar and pay ourselvesFood was really good but only knowing we were getting 50% off otherwise not worth the expensive pricesAlso bought a 'jam' donut from the farm shop which had virtually no jamif you're going to go - recommend the sharing bread board for £6 as get a lot of bread for the money and comes out warm!

Really poor experience:- Poor Covid preps. Reused menus. Insufficient distance between table. No contact tracing. People rammed in with no thought to the dangers they are causing. - Menu choice really poor. Think ribs and burgers and you are about there. Really expensive for what it is - £30 for an 8oz steak. - Very loud band playing when we arrived. - Drinks took 20 mins to turn up. - We moved tables because of the noise. And told the waiters twice to make sure they didn’t think we had left. - starters didn’t turn up after 1 hour. - Owner was really rude. Blamed us and said we could have our food or leave. He didn’t care. One of the nastiest people I have ever met. Other reviews say some really horrible things about this guy. Google him!!!- So we left and went to the Crown Inn in Farnham Common. Which was awesome.

Honestly the food was delicious & we both absolutely loved it ... even if it was missing the cheese off the burger BUT then the I guess that makes up for the staff... we arrived at 12pm with two other groups in the large garden, no staff greeting so we took a table keeping our distance from the other tables. Once we where finally clocked by a member of staff they came over rudely asked if we booked & when we responded with a no we got an eye roll & she walked off as if we shouldn’t have been there & we where a hindrance ... about 5 minutes or so later she brought over a menu & took our drink order!! For the first round of drinks they where brought over on a tray after it had been to another table first ... but after that & for many other customers they where carrying drinks over in their hands ... holding them at the rim of the glasses (plastic glasses), non of the staff where wearing a mask, gloves or even using hand sanitizer between customers. Considering we are in the middle of a pandemic I feel like they could be doing a lot more ... we also didn’t even have any details taken from us for the track & trace. Having been to a number of pubs since the reopening the black horse did very little to make it safe and secure. Overall the food was amazing but it was let down by the staff & cost of a beer!!!

If your idea of a rare old time is spending the best part of a tenner on a pint, served with a scowl by a late pubescent who would literally rather be anywhere than having to spend valuable nanoseconds away from the 'gram, in your dreary presence, earning a crust, then the Black Horse awaits your visit like a pit full of punji sticks.Perhaps you are the weary walker in need of sustenance in Fulmer's number one (of one) eating house? Well then, you won't mind your appetite being keened by a protracted wait whilst someone summons the energy to take your reassuringly expensive order. And then a not inconsiderable delay awaiting its delivery.Come the weekend and the tastes of the more hedonistic patron are amply catered for as you join the line of cheerfully aggressive, Lynx-perfumed youths at the outdoor bar as they cordially swear at each other across the spacious and comfortable beer garden, all the while engaging in a subtly nuanced romantic gavotte with their immaculately-eyebrowed, harridan-voiced female counterparts. All in all a very special and cherished hostelry which will hopefully stay open for ever and never be destroyed completely by localised asteroid strike.

Service wasn’t great. Had to ask twice for drinks. Food was good but expensive. What was more concerning was there was no social distancing. Tables were too close together in restaurant and staff didn’t wear masks. Toilets were nasty too. Would go back but only if we could sit in their lovely outside space.

I have to say, The Black Horse has re-opened and they have done it properly! The garden has been re-organised to allow for social distancing, the staff were very respectful of their distancing to customers whilst being as helpful as possible, and the service was fantastic. The food was of course as delicious as ever! To anyone venturing out for their first outing after this lockdown I would highly recommend this pub.

Cost me nearly 50 pounds and the staff who look about 15 are very rude. I won't go back. I have eaten there before and I was a fool to go back. It is very average food at top restaurant prices. During these challenging times I thought I would support our local pub and purchase a few things from their Farm Shop setup in the parking lot of their establishment. It was a particularly sunny day when I visited and as I drove into the car park, I was directed by a young member of staff to the back of the pub, I thought this was odd at the time but followed their instructions. On driving a little further into the car park, I was absolutely flabbergasted! No less than 100 people were being served alcohol and having a wonderful merry time in the PUB GARDEN of this establishment. There was no social distancing being obeyed and this pub clearly has complete disregard of any laws in place during this pandemic! They have even rented public toilets which have been setup in the parking lot!THE BLACK HORSE, you are a disgrace, you think you are above the law and you are NOT. I hope the local authorities comes down hard on you! I can assure you, you have lost another potential customer!Local residents and friends, please don't support this business!

Full marks to the Black Horse and its staff during these difficult time. Free coffee to go for NHS staff, and now there own farmers village market where you can get vegetables and even roast chicken from the oven. Utmost attention to all government guidelines and social distancing etc, all in all a very very brave effort and deserves a round of applause. I had a rib eye take away steak there this evening and it was fantastic. Love the effort, well done.

4 fish & chips, 4 beers, one large glass of wine and one coke came to £112. The meal wasn’t even the standard of take away at its worst.Complained with no response whatsoever . In this climate you need to make more of an effort on such basic food. To make things worse tried to palm us off with regular size wine until it was queried ,A small glass was brought to the table with little apology .

I was very disappointed with the reaction of your staff, I wasn't given anything to clean up the drink over my clothes and new suede boots. I went into the loos and when returning the floor was still wet and ice over the floor and my seat. It was explained to my friend that this happens when ice is added to hot glasses. Because of this I called the manager and she said that it was only water (in fact I had light colour blouse and it was coke so hardly water) and was totally dismissive not offering any apology wotsoever. Because of this reaction I asked if the owner to contact me and haven't heard a thing....such a shame its lovely food but the workers are having a go at each other customers can hear very unprofessional !!

The food is always excellent here. Not the place to go if you are in a rush, as the service is quite slow. This is not a bad thing, as it’s unusual to not be rushed through a meal. Just had a celebration lunch with friends and the meal took 3 and a half hours. Not a criticism, but a warning to anyone not wanting a wait a while for their food.

such a lovely old pub divided into a number of rooms most with a wood burning fire to add to the cosiness. We managed to find a large table by the window. I read the comments about staff not being up to standard but I have to say this was not our experience as they were friendly and welcoming. We shared the tapas which came piping hot and beautifully cooked. My one complaint is that the wine by the glass is over-priced.

This is a lovely village pub with great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. However the prices are equivalent to London, West End. Fair enough because the quality is there and you are aware of the price when you order. However when the bill came an additional £2.00 was added because we ordered a bit more gravy to prevent our beef becoming dry. This seems very mean-minded and parsimonious. Only a little thing but it spoilt the otherwise excellent experience. The bill for 2 roast beef and 1 pudding with a bottle of Merlot and a pint of beer was £85.00 without service!

Great location, with a lovely garden, in a pretty and quiet village setting. Service was OK, and the staff were very pleasant. The food was OK and the roast dinners were passable, although the beef was a little chewy and served *very* rare. However, the bass portion was tiny, and served on a bed of soggy vegetables, with no carb. Each meal is priced at around £18-20 per person, which seems about average for the area. Although £4.75 for a side portion of chips is very expensive to add to a meal with no carb.
