Just spent one of the best evenings of my life . Fantastic atmosphere in the pub. Never been on a karaoke before but ended up on the 🎤 twice and apologies to all who heard me. Food yet again first class and lots of it. Was here for a 21st birthday and enjoyed every minute. Congrats to the staff for making the place so welcoming and the chef for food which would put other outlets to shame . Thank you for a great time. My only regret is that we live to far away for this to be our local.

We popped in for a Thursday evening drink and decided to get some food. Great menu with classics like steak and burgers and a good tapas selection. We both opted for the Bates' local burger with fries which was cooked to perfection. Good selection too of wines and beers and a choice of places to sit. The outside area is comfortable with sheltered space and we ate in the airy, relaxing garden room. Fantastic choice for a quiet meal for two, a family get together or a catch up with friends. Five stars.

Sunday dinner meal was satisfactory, no real complaints. Waitresses had no idea of how to wait on customers, asking questions bluntly, coming and collecting plates when 1 person had finished food and the other 4 people were still eating! This carried on throughout the meal. And it was so quiet in there so it wasn’t as if they were running out of cutlery. Collecting side dish plates when meals were still being eaten! Waitress didn’t know what she was doing in regards to the bill, she charged us the wrong amount and as we were leaving, said we needed to pay more. Overall, food was okay, service was terrible, staff need training on how to wait on customers to give a better experience. I won’t be returning.

Amazing food friendly welcome couldn’t fault it. The bar maid smiled as my husband and I entered the bar area and greeted us warmly. Our orders were served promptly. The waitress placed our foods quickly. The tapas was to die for, it’s worth every penny. What an awesome chef. The bar maid unsold drinks and deserts. The decor was clean and inviting. The manageress was friendly. My husband and I have been in the hospitality trade for over 25 years and we couldn’t fault it. You must try the black horse in Atherstone at least once in your life. We didn't know the area but wanted something to eat. We googled Pubs near Atherstone and the Black Horse came up. When, we drove up I nearly drove on, as from the outside it didn't look too good. Boy am I glad we didn't. We were greeted in the car park by the Landlord and Landlady who were very friendly and informative, making us feel at home straight away. This place was amazing, a small restaurant laid up like a 5 star one would be. Then a cosy les formal Garden Room. The menu had a really good choice for a town centre pub. We both chose the Frank Parker's Sirloin steak, which we requested Blue. When the meals came they were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and excellent quality. As were the accompanying vegetables For dessert my husband had Eton Mess and I had the Chefs Special of Salted Caramel Cheesecake, both of which were to die for. We are looking forward to eating here again and feel that it is well worth the nearly 80 miles round trip.

Visited from Kent for a family christening.. Arrived after church service.. went out to marquee which was hardly ready, looked dirty, untidy & unorganised. Thought bar in marquee would have been set up as almost 100 guests.. sadly no. Went into bar to order drinks at 12. Told bar not open yet .. WHY! went back to an extremely full bar as guests arriving all requiring a drink... service slow as only 1 barman initially...then they were having trouble with card payments, making it slower... Returned to marquee and noticed no tables out for buffet at 1pm... joked maybe only one plate of sandwiches & sausage rolls for us all. Sadly it wasn't much better than that... arrived late... when I say arrived a cake arrived first... Nut cake , one of the children who had been christened has a severe NUT allergy (great start) so that sent back to kitchen. 20 mins later a plate of rushly made cheese sandwiches, 10 mins after that some brownie cakes & a apple tart type cake cut up... as everyone was hungry (especially the children) they disappeared rapidly. Then a plate of chopped up sausage rolls & a few samosas. Buffet came out in dribs & drabs, waiting 10/15 minutes for each plate to arrive.. in total food served for almost 100 was one plate of very cheap square chopped ham sandwiches, one plate of egg mayo & one plate of cheese..( not even platters) plate of sausage rolls, plus the brownies & apple tart... at £9.95 per person charged it was by far the worst food I have ever witnessed or experienced... most people left to go and buy food in town.. people had travelled & were hungry... This amount of food took abt an hour to produce after constant asking by the family.. Drinks service was eventually being offered. But it took ages, wrong drinks arrived & over charged or expensive for one soda water, 2 pints of larger & a J2O £18.90 Used to use this pub for many family events , meals & as a pub at weekends.. sadly never again.. It was embarrassing & a shameful display of food, service, cleanliness & how to run or organise an event...

We were staying in Atherstone, but our accommodation did not serve food. Wondering along the High Street, The Black Horse was recommended to us for an evening meal. We entered, and were then shown to the restaurant area of the pub, which was tidy, neat and well presented. The Food, however, was AMAZING..... All of their meat is sourced from a local butcher. I had a Chicken Kebab and my wife had one of the best steaks she has ever had. We had no room for dessert, but an adjoining table seemed very impressed. Also very good value..... As we left, we noticed that they also did breakfasts. That meant that the next morning, we were queuing up to get our fill of bacon, sausage, eggs etc. Again all locally sourced and served in the breakfast area of the pub. We would highly recommend this place as a place to eat.

This place has such an opportunity to be amazing but unfortunately due to lack of planning and organisation it was terrible. The medium was a sell out, yet no extra resources were provided and the food was shocking. Firstly our table was given to someone else, noone could find the reservation book and one of the three options on the menu were sold out. There was one waitress assigned to one room of 40 people !! And at 9pm I was told my meal order was no longer on the menu. There was no thought given to the customer around the planning of the night, inc variety of meal and service. There was a massive opportunity to upsell on waitress service drinks, extras on sides but due to scrimping on staff we were left hungry and thirsty The poor waitress brought 1 meal out at a time and had to serve 40 people It's a shame as it's has such potential but standards and service need to improve

Had Sunday lunch here. Plates were cold and wet. Beef was dry and cut too thickly. Veg not very warm either and gravy very watery. Didn't enjoy it at all. Waitress too eager to clear plates before everyone else had done, and came to ask if we wanted desserts before we'd even finished eating main course! Only 2 choices of dessert... Would expect at least 4 including hot puddings. Chose lemon tart which was, served in a deep round dish with no effort to present nicely. Waitress served the bowls tucked into her chest, instead of hands and wrists which is the usual way. Felt like we were being hurried, as she just plonked bill down. We'd only been at table an hour. We did ask if the table was needed, and she said no. Not a professional service. Waitress needed apron on, as clothes were covered in food. Training needed I think. Bar staff was friendly and pleasant. Price was cheap for Sunday lunch, and that reflected in the quality of food. Maybe having an off day, but needs improvement.

We had booked this venue for our Christmas party based on availability and menu. On arrival to the restaurant there was not a Christmas decoration in sight! They attempted to play music but if anyone moved it would cut in and out of the music. It was also a radio channel which I found so bazar, why not put on a Christmas CD? After 30 minutes we were finally given our welcome drink but then had to wait even longer for the canapé. Through out the meal there were elements missing or they were barely there. The soup had one scrap of bread, the main was missing parsnips, pigs in blankets and barely their gravy. After a long wait we finally received our cheese board. I can’t knock the selection of cheese but they served it with 8 crackers for 7 people! We had to ask for plates and our coffee was served without a saucer or teaspoon. We were also missing a mince pie which was stated on the menu we would receive. At that point in the night we had given up and just wanted to get home. The football was on and they had only put one member of staff on the bar. He was trying his best but couldn’t possibly be everywhere at once to serve. I wouldn’t recommend based on our experience. Hopefully improvements will be made.

Having visited Black Horse for our works Christmas meal on Sat 10th Dec 22 ,I have to say we were very disappointed. On arrival the table was bare other than a few Christmas crackers which looked as though they had been thrown on. The complementary glass of Prosecco was so long coming, ordered a pink gin but was told out of stock. The main meal came with no pigs in blankets, parsnips, and the mash was powderily. the meal was very Dry ,I think they forgot the gravy. The cheese board that was presented had more than enough cheese for the seven of us but about 8 crackers on board not enough for two each. It was a sharing Platter but no plates came, we had to ask. I think we were Suppose to eat with fingers. Then comes the coffee, China cups came piled three high, no Saucers ,no Spoons , we had to ask. To top it all the room was freezing and some of us sat with our coats on. It was Suppose to be a works Christmas night out and it is Advertised as a Christmas meal yet there was not one Christmas decoration to be seem in the room. I feel there needs to be a lot more attention to detail and not just for putting money in the till.

Understandably, dogs are not permitted in the restaurant, so we had a table reserved for us in the bar area. From the second we walked through the door we were greeted warmly and everyone made such a fuss of our 2 year old cockapoo! Just got back from what we hoped would have been a nice Sunday carvery. Unfortunately we are very disappointed. The glass of wine was served in a gin glass and the mug of hot chocolate served in a very cracked old mug (see picture). The carvery meat was very dry (we ate an hour before last orders) and served on to the plate using her hand …… yes you read that right, she picked the meat up and put it on our plates using her hand 😳. The veg was over done and the stuffing had seen better days. The plates were taken away and we were asked if we ‘were done’ - no offer of dessert or any more drinks. We paid and left. Out side there is an offer advertised ‘children eat for £1’. We were charged full price at £8.99 - has to ask for a refund, which was given with an apology. Need to find any place for a carvery which is a shame as it’s my local.

Recently visited for pre-booked lunch with family. Ordered 2 x Asian Salad Wraps & 1 with crispy duck (£5 extra), plus a burger. All the meals were disappointing in particular the crispy duck which was very dry and burger didn’t have much favour. Overall, a pleasant location but food overrated & expensive.

It was good quality food and we enjoyed it. But pick your times, the queue for the carvery at peak demand was just insane

Good food and a nice atmosphere. Sometimes the servers get a little overwhelmed but are always pleasant

Booked here at quite short notice for my wife's 60th birthday lunch. Lovely lady on the phone was very friendly and accommodating and managed to reserve a table for 12 (which turned, unexpectedly, into 13 people). Lovely pub/restaurant and great, friendly staff. The food was amazing and very wallet friendly too. The Cajun Steak is highly recommended. Will definitely be paying another visit.
