Soup was water with a drip of butternut squash, we were last customers in for food so I think they had one serving of soup left which they watered down for three. After we complained they made some more soup which was adequate. If you’re adding herbs use a strainer to remove stalks or place herbs in muslin bag (was full of thyme stems) Taste the soup before you serve ( it was under seasoned) and stir when it’s been microwaved so the outside is not cold and inside like a volcano. Making soup lesson one ……..

The black horse is another punch pub with bags of charm... Extremely bright and clean throughout... Jade was doing an outstanding job cleaning and polishing everywhere before the first customers piled in for an arranged coffee morning. Lisa the land lady has really worked her magic on this beautiful venue... The high quality finish is clear to see. Sports, pool and darts are available and an abundance of outdoor seating as shown in photos. A true gem of a pub, popular with the local walkers for a meet and greet over coffee and cakes. Be sure to put you're registration in at the bar as the carpark is monitored to stop people abusing it. 😎

Good quality pub food, good selection of drinks

Came for Christmas Day lunch, was lovely, only 1 sitting, none of the 2 hour time slot here, then gotta leave , arrived at 12.30 to a busy pub but the atmosphere was great, after all it is a local pub so expect it to be busy, given our table and had a drink before the food arrived, wow lovely bread and the best olive oil dip we have had, glass of prosecco, crackers, the starters, main course then pudding, food lovely and hot although we did miss out on pigs in blankets but hey ho not a major, for me the dessert was the best, who knew that Christmas cake, honey and Stilton could be such a game changer ? even had some to take home as couldn’t fit it all in including mince pies and coffee. Left at 15.30, Big shout out to the lovely landlady Lisa and all her wonderful staff who gave up a big portion of their own Christmas to make ours special. Thankyou and hopefully see you this year for Christmas Day again.

I decided to book Sunday lunch for 4 people, as on the website the food looked amazing and reviews was good, well this was the worst meal I have ever had, we was given one small slice of beef two small roast potatoes and a tiny little jug of gravy, the vegetables had been microwaved, on my daughter in laws dinner she had no parsnips and the chicken was tiny little bits, we ordered cauliflower cheese two portions and that came when we had nearly finished our meal, and it was microwaved cauliflower with some water sauce that tasted like cheese, very disappointed and false advertisements.

Very friendly & accommodating redarding a wheelchair elderly user. They were very helpful. Toilets were spotless. The food was really good & reasonably priced. Definitely be back again.

Found this place by accident while looking for a post office. The welcome was nothing short of wonderful, made us feel really comfortable, especially as new customers. The place was warm, unusual for pub these days, and it was spotless. Ordering was simple and the lady behind the bar was amazing. Food and drinks were spot on, well portioned and fresh, with the service as professional as everything else we encountered. Don’t usually post about pub visits, but this pub deserves it for sure. We will definitely come back when in the area. Thank you!

Would just like to say what a lovely meal we had at the black horse in Bilton. We popped in for a drink and ended up staying for food. The landlady gave our twins an easter egg each . All staff were very friendly, food was excellent. This will now be our go to pub in Rugby, highly recommended.

Good food and beer, well priced, all in a good atmosphere. I will return.

Went here for the very first time today. My son had came up on a surprise visit for my birthday, so we decided to go out, grab a bite to eat and find somewhere local showing the early rugby match. Wasn't disappointed. My sis and bro-in-law also dropped in while we were there, saw our food, cancelled their later dinner plans and ordered. They were also very happy with what was delivered. Good menu choices that I think everyone can find something they would like. Staff (and I guess the landlady) - friendly, welcoming and helpful Food - fab Will definitely be going back soon hopefully to try some of the other dishes they offer

Went for lunch ,had scampi very nice and hot good value for money Hubby had hunters chicken abit small and dry (no bbq sauce ) . Price ok

Definitely worth a visit to sample the menu now the pub is under new management. The fish and chips are simply stunning. Huge piece of fish, freshly cooked and coated in a a delicious light batter. An equally large portion of chips, mushy peas, and tartare sauce accompanied the meal all for a very reasonable price. £11.50. The table of three next to us were served gorgeous looking desserts and they very soon disappeared. Recommend giving the pub and menu a try.

Visited last night, great pint and good pub, spoke to the landlady who was very nice along with all the other staff, I had my family with me and we all felt very welcome, I will definitely visit again and the kitchen will open soon, I was shown the menu and spoke to the chef, I’m looking forward to trying the food

Excellent! Invited to have a meal for nephews 18th so not our choice but pleasantly surprised! Food was really nice, all proper home cooked dishes so much nicer than the chains. We will definitely be back. I understand Sunday lunch is not to be missed!

Often use their current takeaway food service, always fresh and great tasting. Recently had the pizza’s which were delicious. Lovely thin base, plenty of toppings, very fresh tasting, and great value. Highly recommend.

Nice friendly pub. Football on 😁

So we went in today to watch the football, my party of 5 had drinks and decided to order an array of starters to share when they arrived the landlady said "well I'm not gonna get rich of cheesy chips" which I thought was very rude. However they were all cooked lovely. Then later on we were asked to keep the noise down ( we were cheering our team on) because people were eating, no1 was eating and when asked the other patrons said we werent even that loud. I find the landlady rude, my friends and I work full time and we were trying to have a little fun in these uncertain times but we will not be returning to the black horse any time soon.

Lisa and Colin were very hospitable and make the pub warm and welcoming. Food was delicious. Also a great choice of ales and smart menu

Friday evening dinner, menu not extensive but done well, and freshly cooked. Certainly tastes more home cooked and better than other local pubs. A very decent local pub that’s well kept, doing good food and good drinks, with friendly staff.

Only one bar staff on when we arrived. Took 15 mins queueing out the door.

I was walking my dog yesterday when it started to rain heavily, so I thought I'd pop in to the Black Horse for a quick drink. I stood on the doorstep of a big lounge and the barman told me they weren't letting dogs in at the moment due to the virus.They are normally allowed in the bar. He said he'd check with the manager to see if he would make an exception as there were only three people in this massive lounge and no-one in the bar anyway. A few moments later the boss came down and said "no dogs, and you cant stand there either!". I asked why, as my dog didn't actually have the virus,but he just pointed to a small shelter outside with no seating. I had to stand outside in the pouring rain until my friend picked me up (we went to the Raglan Arms where the dog was greeted with a dog biscuit!). His manner was rude, abrupt and totally uncompromising and I certainly would't recommend visiting under the present management.

Great take away service, hot, tasty and great value for money. We had chicken burger, cheese burger and the carbonara. Great home-made chips and produce .👍

Good pub for drinking and eating. Excellent home cooked food, cooked by Colin, a great chef. All food is locally sourced from butchers and greengrocers. A large varied menu for lunch and evening, something to suit all. And a fantastic Sunday Lunch.

Well served beer, served by friendly staff, the pub was lovely and warm thanks to the wood burning stove. The pub is lovely and comfortable and there was a good atmosphere inside. There is a garden for the smokers out at the back and for drinking in the sun in the summer... Overall a good old British Village pub

What a surprise. A delicious Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price. We chose the beef that was both tender and full of flavour. This was accompanied by a huge Yorkie, wonderful roast potatoes, and a side dish of freshly cooked vegetables, cooked to perfection. And, to top it off, you have your very own jug of delicious gravy. Ok, the pub is a pub and not a restaurant, but if it's good quality, the real thing food you're after, give it a try. Oh. Think best to book as the tables fly out fast.

Had Sunday lunch here today and I can honestly say it was the best I've eaten for some time. They'd run out of pork so the choices were chicken or beef and it was the tastiest, tenderest and leanest two slices of topside imaginable. Even though it was past 2.00 pm, the vegetables had clearly been freshly prepared and I don't know what Colin puts in his gravy, but it was delicious. We started off with whitebait (no batter) grilled to perfection and finished with sticky toffee. With two pints of Marstons Pale Ale and two large glasses of Chardonnay the total was less than £39. Superb quality, great service and very sensible pricing - we'll be back.

We visited this pub on a trip to Rugby. What a little gem this is. We picked the sausage and cider night. As it said on the tin both were very good. Great BBQ sausage hot dogs and a good selection of ciders including a rather quaffable rhubarb ciderThe hosts Lisa and Colin were very friendly and Colin was master of the BBQ. Looking at the food menu I think a he is a little more then that confirmed by a couple of locals, 2 mains for £10 very good value.Will be visiting again when we are in the area

Friendly old-fashioned pub with good beer, friendly service, nice garden and comfy seats. Haven't tried the food yet, but the landlords are clearly trying very hard to make this pub great. I'll definitely visit again.

Remeberance sunday was amazing here

The pub landlord told me to "Speak English" and belittled me for asking a question. I am English...

A pub to avoid unless you want to pay £3 for parki ng and put up with rude staff. I went in for a drink when i came out the barrier was shut, a member of the staff wanted £3 to let me out, he was very rude and sarcastic. I will never go there again.
