Had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding it was rank horrible tasteless had to put salt and pepper on to make it taste of anything they couldn’t even make a decent gravy to hide the rubbish food

The portion size and food is exceedingly good, the only downside is frozen chips, everything else is fresh. Would we comeback? ABSOLUTELY. Pub is right outside the campsite, it’s 2 minutes walk.

We found ourselves at the Black Bull by chance. Staying in Pickering asked for recommendations & decided to eat here. We visited without a booking, and were very pleased with what we found. Lovely place, welcoming staff & really great food. It’s what we’d call “proper pub food” and for this reason will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone else who is visiting the area. It’s dog friendly too 👍

Went for our usual Friday fish and chips. Both waitresses were more than welcoming. Always beautiful white fresh flakes of fish with freshly cooked chips. Never have we been to the black bull and had a bad experience with food or the lovely staff. A *****

Called here today with family that had travelled from Barnsley. Went in walked up to the bar, asked if we were wanting a table so we said yes but would like a few drinks first. We were escorted to the booking in table at the front exit to find a table. My partner jokingly said to the waitress "what if we want a drink first and not a table"....to which her reply was "forget it then and just leave" and proceeded to leave us just stood there 😲 We were left there felling flabbergasted....what a rude miserable woman... We left the pub and was embarrassed that we had put our daughter and partner who had travelled all that way through such an awful welcome.... It's fair to say we will never return.

Did not book , pub was quite busy at 4pm. we went to our table and were served within 10 mins, already had drinks from bar. Waitress friendly and helpful. 3 of us chose the daily special of roast beef yorks pudding veg n chips , jacket, or mash. £8.50. A good sized meal. the meals were delicious and enough, no one could manage a pudding.It is a shame to have to travel out of Pickering to get a decent meal for a decent price, when there are cafes restaurants and pubs on the doorstep.

Drive past here daily, but finally decided to call in. It was a mid afternoon midweek. Bar was quiet but food was served all day from 12. Sat by the fire and enjoyed a really good lunch. Impressive portions. Great service. Couldn’t fault anything.

Friendly and welcoming pub. We were seated immediately although we hadn’t booked. Plenty of free parking. Dogs welcome. Starters were very good and large portions. My chicken curry was tender and I swapped the chips for a side of salad. My husband was overwhelmed with the amount of beef.

Went for a family meal last week but been several times before. The food is amazing - tasty and very freshly cooked and reasonably priced. Lovely waiting staff and a cosy open fire. What more do you need!

Went for New Year's Eve dinner. We were a group of 11 adults. Service was excellent, seated on time, all our meals came together and all food was hot and no complaints from any of us. Waiting staff were all friendly and well organised. Great meal from start to finish and value for money. Thank you for a lovely evening

We rented locally and visited 4 times in 4 days. We were asked to move 3 times during our visits. I tried engaging the guy behind the bar in conversation but it was very hard work. The lady with the red hair was lovely but the rest of the staff made us feel rather uncomfortable. A lovely pub but it depends on what staff are working as to whether you will be able to relax.

Excellent food, great value. The beef filled Yorkshire pudding is an absolute bargain. Don't order the large you will never eat it all. Great friendly service with a smile.

Lovely pub, nice staff and fab food. Had a lovely meal scampi was lovely it came with chunky chips which were nice and crispy my husband had the turkey roast which was huge with plenty of meat. One of the best meals I have had out recently, next time we are over that way we will be back for another meal.

Stayed for weekend break. Firstly communication is excellent. Arrived on the Friday night and despite there restaurant being in the last half an hour they squeezed us in for a meal which was lovely. The breakfasts were plenty full and high quality produce. The rooms are adjacent to the lovely pub and are spotless and large. All in all this is a lovely pub and hotel with lovely food and staff Definitely worth a minute

Omg don't no were to start me and husband were staying in the caravan park behind the blackbull it wasn't opened on the Mon Tues. Went in weds night beautiful and cosy inside with very pleasant and friendly staff we didn't make a booking but they fitted us in . We didn't no what to have as all the food they were bringing out looked delicious and all home made . We decided on the l9af tin yorkshire pudding and by eck it was massive there must have been a full cow in it with all the meat you get We couldn't finish it .was absolutely beautiful a guy on the sight told us to have the pork chops next time carnt wait to go again fantastic

So you think from the website the Black bull is quite classy this is far from the truth! This pub is an old fashioned village pub that has turned from pub /bar to restaurant / bit of pub. There is no glamour or glitz the matre de is an old chap in his coat and hawian shirt sat on a stool close to the entrance hardly the ritz! So this all sounds negative fear not cast aside your dicky bow and dinner jacket and get ready to be broken . The food shall we say comes in big portions but cooked fantastically well the pub is cosy with a warm fire and everyone is friendly and easy going. Maxie our waitress was really welcoming and fun with a huge smile she knew the tortue of a huge portion was on its way . I had there speciality Yorkshire pudding loaf and beef omg brilliant. Just so you understand this is huge the yorkshire pud is the size of a loaf of bread but amazing to eat . If in Pickering stop in but be warned go hungry 100% would go again.

Googled this dog friendly pub before we arrived as we were staying at High Oaks Grange. The food was 1st. Class as was the service so good we went back again. Staff went over the top to accommodate our usual requests.

We have been here a long time ago and rediscovered it recently. We have never been disappointed with our meal or the welcome we have had. They are dog friendly and always accommodating. Really recommend The Black Bull for any occasion.

Eaten here in the past and it was very good, sadly not on our last visit. The actual menu greatly reduced to what is on the website. Also prices gone up considerably since our last visit. The pie served was very basic, half a pie with a few chips and peas for just under £14, was disgusting, plain, the sort of thing you'd get on Scarborough seafront for a fiver, more chips and a decent portion of veg would have made it better. Also the giant Yorkshire was quite burnt and about £4 more expensive than our last visit. Won't rush to return.

Popped in with a friend for a drink. The place was quite busy inside with diners, so we opted to sit outside.When we first got into the car park, there was a man telling customers exactly where to park. I parked, but he was insistent that I park 4cm closer to the next car, he sent my friend down the drive to park somewhere else, all very odd and unnecessary.Once in, we were ignored by a couple of members of staff, maybe they were waiting on tables and not trained to do the bar, but they could have acknowledged us and told us that someone would be asking soon.We sat outside under a very, dirty marquee with a mish mash of grubby indoor furniture. There was no grass, that had turned to mud. All in all, a rather weird, neglected place - certainly outside anyway.

We visited Black Bull to dine as a last minute option. We had a steak and burger. The food was to a good standard and a great portion size. It’s not the best steak I’ve had as could have done with abit less cooking time as the outside was quite tough, however, still quite enjoyable. Quick service and very friendly and efficient staff. Only downside was that the pub was absolutely red hot even with windows all open. Don’t know if normally air con or some vans could be used. We’d definitely visit again.

Spent a few days using this wonderful well run pub. Plenty of room for drinkers Plenty of room for dining. Accommodate dogs. In the the time we used the pub they had 7 different ales. Super food large portions. Good value what more can you ask.

This is not a pub for drinkers. There was only one cask beer on offer despite empty pumps. When t asked what was coming on next bar staff didn't know. I asked if they were serving fish and chips on the following Friday & it took 3 staff to work out that they didn't know I asked where I could sit and was told anywhere that wasn't laid for food. I chose my table and was told an hour later I would have to move into the garden as my table was wanted for diners . Having spent over £18 at the bar l was not impressed . This place needs to decide if it's a pub or a run of the mill fast food outlet & spend time on staff training so they know what they're selling & treat customers alike whether they are eating or not .. Definitely not a place that I would return to

Large restaurant that serves big portions and offers really good value for money. Lots of gluten free options available. The service was great as well pretty fast and very friendly. The pub caters for the caravan site that is on the site and so lots of families during the holidays. If you are after a no frills filling meal this is your place.

I have visited here before a number of times and always been very happy so decided to bring a friend and her children who we had been out with for the day at Dalby Forest. When we arrived at 5, we were told pretty quickly that the table was needed again at 7pm, which was fine really, however I think it should have maybe been mentioned on the phone when I booked. We ordered 3 yorkshire puddings, 3 kids pizza and 1 kids chicken bites. Overall the food was tasty as it has been before but one of the yorkshires was quite burnt on the edge so my friends son couldn't finish it. I also think the chips and veg sides weren't as good/plentiful as previous visits. But I did enjoy the meal overall. The puddings we ordered seemed to cause a bit of a problem. The poor waitress had to bring things out that were wrong 3/4 times, so I think there was a miscommunication somewhere. Also, we were told during the meal that actually we could have the table til 7.15 as opposed to 7, yet someone brought the bill over while my friend and 2 of our kids were still eating their pudding before 7pm which felt a bit like they were trying to push us out the door a bit. Also on checking the bill we'd been charged £2.60 per half coke so had been charged for bottles rather than coke on tap. This was rectified no problem. Overall felt a little bit like we were being rushed.

Visited with my granddaughter and great granddaughter as a halfway venue for us ,the meal was brilliant especially if you have a big appetite and good prices , the staff were very friendly and very good with the toddler.looking forward to going again. Jim who runs the carpark what a nice guy

After suffering the very poor food in Flamingoland we decided to venture further out. Great venue and friendly staff, Sarah made us feel very welcome and the food was so good we booked again. Highly recommended

This pub was recommended to me by another as they couldn’t fit us in (13 of us). We pre-ordered as such a big group but everything was perfect. Food came out when we were ready and was fantastic, not one complaint. Staff were extremely helpful, organised and lovely. Great place to visit.

We were recommended this pub by the old mance hotel where we stayed, we had chilli prawns to start which were excellent and so tasty, followed by salmon Wellington and chicken Caesar salad both meals were first class and we will definitely go back next time we are in Pickering.

Come here for food while staying at pickering lodges. Really good food and the staff were friendly staff and always happy to help. It was that good we booked a table for the next night!

Came here after travelling 6 hours from Devon to holiday in a nearby cottage. Asked car park attendant if they accepted dogs and they did. Parked up and were shown to a table inside, abit wet to sit outside, ordered kids pizza and nuggets and halloumi burger and hunters chicken. And drinks. Not too expensive and food tasted lovely, the only criticism is that there weren't enough chips.

We ate at the Blackbull while staying on the campsite. The staff were really friendly and great with our dogs so this is why we’ve given this place 3 stars. For two fish and chips and two kids meals plus drinks it cost us over £90 which was very expensive. The wine was like rocket fuel and not great quality so I asked them for soda water to water it down. The food was all clearly frozen food and certainly not fresh, the smell of fat fryers and loud noises from the garden alongside lots of chain smokers didn’t make for a nice environment. Definitely would not eat here again - very cheap and cheerful food indeed.

I will say only one thing I had the loaf tin Yorkshire pudding meal.... MASSIVE... and very tasty.... Go on try it The wife had lamb steaks and thoroughly enjoyed

Staying at Flamingoland for a few days and seriously disappointed with the food choices on offer so decided to venture further afield. We definitely made the right choice as the food was great, although the portions were so big we couldn't finish them (despite best efforts!) And the staff were very friendly and helpful and the place was nice and clean. Definitely reccomend!

We booked a table for 4.30 as it was the only availability that evening. We weren’t disappointed the food was amazing to say the least. I had Lasagna which I’m super fussy with but by god it was amazing. The portion size is huge as well. 2 of our part had haddock and it was so big and lovely and fresh. The staff were super helpful and polite. Can’t honestly fault this place and if I’m ever in the area again I would done eat here.

Booked a table here twice as we were staying at the caravan park with my parents - once on a Saturday night, and once for the curry night on a Thursday. Booked in advance so no problem getting a table; it's clearly popular, as people were being turned away as they didn't have a booking, and it was very busy.Covid measures were in place, which made us feel very safe as it was our first pub outing since before the pandemic.The portions were huge, and very tasty.The staff were very friendly, and were working so hard despite clear staffing issues. A big thank you to all the staff - we really enjoyed both of our visits, and would visit more often if we lived closer!

Lovely pub , great food, big portions!! Came after being at Flamingo land for ths day. This place is a 5min drive away. Rung up and was lucky to get in for a booking in half hrs time..... As everywhere else we have rung while been on hols (in Filey) have been advanced bookings only. Food is delicious and good choice. Lots of nice healthy food too , I was craving something fresh and healthy after eating burgers n chips for past 2 nights ( as we couldn't get in anywhere else). SBeer great. Nice beer garden. We booked to eat here the first night of our stay next door at the caravan site, pub is nice and handy. Food unfortunately was not great and service fairly unorganised, shame as so handy for the site.

Walked down to the car boot sale so as near we decided to have lunch here. Outside very busy so we were more than happy to sit inside. Drinks order taken quickly as was the food order. Food was o k but the chips tasted of fish not good when you are having a burger. Husband had the steak pie with chips and peas. The peas were a funny grey colour. Bill with two soft drinks £21.70. Toilets clean and tidy.

Called in post walk with two dogs and family. Clear instructions re Covid /precautions/entrance and exit/toilets. Delightful staff who even brought a dog water bowl to the table and we were served quickly and efficiently.

Had steak & ale in a giant Yorkshire! Really tasty. Yorkshire’s a bit thick inside, but nice and filling and delicious steak & ale. Friendly staff- all nice! Nice waitress served us. Drinking glasses had lipstick on them. Not good in a Covid environment- they happily changed our drinks & apologised. Then near the end of our meal we got a mouth full of fumes from a massive generator that was turned on without asking prior too. The noise was tribble and the dog jumped when it was turned on. Asking would have been the right thing to do- or wait until we finished our meals. Not good.Overall 3*

Lovely place, lovely food, friendly, helpful staff HOWEVER they need to get rid of the stinky fire pit! We were put on a table near the fire pit and had to move, it was awful with smoke and ash, not what you want when eating. After we moved, another 4 parties put on that table asked to be moved because of the smoke. Wind or not, fire pits have your clothes and hair stinking! Why anyone would have these is beyond me, just get some patio heaters! Avoid these areas if you can.

Beer = warm Food = cold, tasteless, frozen rubbish, inedible Fizzy drinks were flat Absolutely awful experience. You're better off driving to the town and eating literally anywhere else. Will not be going back ever.

Came for Saturday lunch on the way toWhitby from Grassington. We all chose a different dish - I had chilli, my partner had a chicken baguette and my friend had spicy pizza. They were all amazing but the pizza was the best! It was huge but there was so much topping, we all helped her eat it and I would order the same next time. Good service too so we will definitely be back.

Very safe with Covid one way system, emmet at the entrance and sanitiser, staff with face masks etc. Full table service.The steak was very nice (although it concerns me when a menu says our "chef suggests this cooked Medium to well done" as I would normally have had medium-rare. My Medium was actually "well done". But I enjoyed the meal and would certainly visit again.We must support eating out and keep local places open :)
