Lindsey and the team never disappoint at this lovely country pub. In our opinion this is certainly the best Sunday lunch anywhere in the Ryedale area. We visited again after a few months break over the summer and the standards remain really high and reminded us what we had been missing. In addition to the food the welcome and personality of all the staff is first class. We live a little way away but intend to visit far more regularly in the future.

Very disappointed. We went for Sunday dinner on 16th June . (I have not had time to put a review on here until now). For some reason the price of a Sunday dinner went up from £30 per head (as per the website) to an extortionate £40, yet I never saw anything on the news that the price of food was going to increase by 25% on Fathers Day, nor were we advised of this at the time of booking. The starter was tiny, tasted OK but nothing special. The main course was very underwhelming. A tiny bit of tastless fatty beef with pathetic portions of vegetables as pictured. Very different from the other picture of a Sunday dinner picture on one of the earlier reviews. The owner was friendly and welcoming but it all felt a little contrived, I got the impression I was getting the hard sell to buy some wine (concerned this would have a 25% Fathers day uplift I didn't partake). This was all such a shame as the pub has the potential to be excellent. Some Suggestions Perhaps advertise what you plan to charge your customers and reduce the prices to about £10 to reflect small potions of underwhelming food. Or get some decent quality ingredients, reasonable portions and charge £20 a head. Oh and please don't rip people off on days that are meant to be about celebrating family, it goes against the spirit of being a publican. Response to the reply from the business owner: I accept there was a delay in delivering this factual review based on my experience. I should have drawn my negative experience of The Plough at Wombleton to your attention much earlier. Please be reassured I am a genuine (disappointed) customer and pride myself in factual reviews based on my experience. Your claim this a "fake an malicious" review is wrong. I am more than happy to share formally with Google should you wish to take further. The reply from the business owner is very disappointing and telling of the true character of someone that refuses to listen to a bitterly disappointed customer. What a shame from a business that claims to "deliver a memorable experience". The Plough was a memorable experience, but for all the wrong reasons. Make a booking and judge the experience for yourself. Brace yourself for being called "pathetic" if you share a truthful experience where you were overcharged for a mediocre meal. Shamefully the owners appear to have decided my opinion doesn't count. I am a genuine customer who feels let down. The embarrassment is all yours as publicans who failed to deliver a positive experience and subseqently refuse to listen to, and rudly dismiss customer feedback.

We have followed Richard Lindsay from the start of there journey back in 2012. Every establishment they take on is always brought up to a very high standard and makes you feel very welcome from when you turn up to you leaving. Front of house is run by Lindsay and nothing is any problem if you want something doing along with her staff. Richard is the chef and the food is so beautiful presented and the flavours are just so divine and if you have any allergies Richard and Lindsay would sort out the food so you can still enjoy your food and time at the Plough. Went to The Plough for the first time for Sunday Lunch. Knew it was meant to be good, but had heard it was pricey. £30 for two of the best Sunday lunch courses seems good value to me. The meat (we had the roast beef and the pork) came as real thick cuts, none of this wafer thin you usually get. Deserts (cheesecake sundae and creme brulee) were also fab. Ate in the bar (as we had a dog), lovely surroundings and friendly service. Will definitely be back!

Booked at rather short notice but managed to get a table for 6.30pm which suited our plans. Upon arriving ilwe were quickly seated and our drinks order was taken whilst we perused the menu. Just the right amount of choices for the main coarse. All three of us settled for different mains and all three were outstanding for taste even if it took slightly longer than normal for them to appear. As the chef works alone I can understand the delay. The food was outstanding and although we didn't take advantage of the excellent choice of wines we made do with mineral water and the odd pint. The service was excellent and mine host was most helpful in explaining the various dishes along with the young waitress who was really helpful. If I am ever in the area again I will certcall again.

We got wind that Richard & Lindsey had resurfaced here. Having followed this couple from The Falcon, Rascills and more recently, Hovingham, we made the trip from East Yorkshire. A superb dinner ensued. Meal highlights, the lamb rump on tomato and saffron risotto. Worked wonderfully. Amazing flavours on the plate. The re worked cheesecake sundae was a dessert of champions. Very light but with pin point flavours. As we've come to expect, a lovely wine list to choose from. Would definitely recommend getting in early to enjoy a drink in the bar. Which on our visit was absolutely packed. Lovely chat with Lindsey, who hasn't lost any of her ability to manage a room full of customers. Went with her wine suggestions which were on point. One wine in particular I would not of ordinarily chosen but glad went with the recommendation. Have to say the sheer quality of the food belies the fact chef Richard is working with no assistance. Always been amazed at what this guy can produce. Especially in comparison to one or two other establishments we have visited. One being a very poor showing at a recent michelin starred place. Super food & hospitality. Great to see this couple back in the game.

We popped in Saturday evening for a couple of beers. Alot of tables in the bar area were reserved. A table that seated four was not, (4 adults and a 5 year old, just the job) double checked with the bar staff and was told that we were okay to use that table. After about 20 minutes a member of staff asked us to move to a table that seated two as a COUPLE wanted to dine at the table. We suggested that maybe the couple could use the table for two as we were five using a table for four..... needless to say we were moved to the table that seated two people. Very rude member of staff, we are very local and will advise all our friends and associates to go elsewhere.

We attended a party at The Plough. The food was amazing, tasty and beautifully laid out. The staff did amazing despite it being very busy. It was clear they had done all they could to make sure the party went well. The marquee was decorated and looked amazing too! I would definitely recommend.

If you’re not local and aren’t part of the “private function” which to be fair is any day ending in “y”, then don’t go, would rather we went and spend the hundreds of pounds we did spend elsewhere in Helmsley where we were given a much better welcome

Ate here last year while on holiday and liked it so much we visited twice again this holiday. Lovely traditional pub in a small village, with bar or restaurant eating areas. Staff very friendly and attentive, so much so that my husband wanted something that...

Decided to have a meal here after reading the excellent reviews people have left. I can honestly say its the best pub meal we have had in a very long time. Credit to the chef. The menu is not the usual pub menu, thankfully, but...

The server was very quick and helpful I was both thirsty and hungry. Great oatmilk latte and pork toastie. I decided to take out so lady gave me cup and wrapper.

We had the best steak and lamb chops ever. Can't believe how good it was. Crumble snd trifle also top notch and really nice wine. Ridiculously cheap.

2:30pm on a Tuesday, I ordered my favourite, half chicken with chips meal, lady at cash desk went to kitchen to check and came back with the bad news, they were out of stock. Out of stock! It's a large supermarket with hundreds of fresh chickens for sale, it even sells hot roast chickens freshly roasted, couldn't they get one of them. Come on Morrisons get your act together. On a plus note the cafe looked clean and tidy and the toilet was ok.
