Had a lovely meal tonight - sea bass and chickpea curry and mixed grill - highly recommended. The staff were all lovely and really helpful which made our evening very pleasant.

Was decent, had a fun time, would recommend the cider, the food is delicious.

Refused to accept a stonehouse gift card when it is part of the dining out and can be used at any Mitchell and butler venue? Obviously staff and management need to check terms on all cards used as none seem to know the conditions. Had sirloin steak but was very fatty, but the refusal of a valid gift card topped the expectations.

Went for lunch today had a lovely time. Staff were fab couldn’t do anymore for us. Jenny was especially lovely great customer service and so helpful. Will return again soon ❤️

Went along for lunch with friends was very busy with kids and adults, as they were having a kids day due to Halloween, staff seemed very rushed and not approachable due to this, waited half an hr for food and wasn’t impressed with presentation, just looked like burger and chips had been thrown on a plate , not even with any salad as garnish, the fish dinner was ok but fish was undercooked, ordered a brûlée with biscoff for pudding, wasn’t impressed at all as it came in a small old cup , 2 inches deep, tasted like tinned ambrosea custard with a bit of burnt sugar on the top with 2 biscoff biscuits for £6.00 ? And definitely was not brûlée, I’ve been here quite a few times as we live in the area but this was not one of my better meals , yes they were rushed , yes they’re looking for a new chef , but you can’t cut back on presentation or quantity

A decent pub that defies it's chain status by having excellent and friendly staff. It's let down slightly by inconsistent food, occasionally poor choice of, or poorly kept real beer, but on a good day, it is very good indeed. The beer garden is adequate, the menu is good and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

Great place to come and have food with the kids. Staff are great (especially Sue). Really nice food and nice atmosphere.

Got the fixed menue and the food was superb. It's clear they are focusing on quality food. Staff really friendly and helpful. A very enjoyable afternoon. Dog friendly too which meant we could take our doggy too.

Generally, great. But two of our party ordered the avocado and mixed grain salad which according to the menu should have been 'Bulgur wheat, giant couscous, butternut squash, red onion and cranberries, mixed with little gem lettuce, fresh sliced tomato, cucumber and ripe avocado tossed in a zesty pineapple & ginger dressing.' and received basic salad - lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, red onion. Very disappointed. Shame to pay £9 for basically a large side salad

Went here with my husband and daughter on Wednesday evening, nice atmosphere, had starters mains and a huge desert. Food was served quickly and very hot, enjoyed by all 3 of us. Will be in again as we are local.

What a smashing pub! Different rooms & tables to choose to sit at. Love the decor. The beers were great and the food was fresh, delicious & wrll price. Staff were great & very friendly too. Will be back very soon!

Visited this evening for food with my family - ordered the Shepherds Pie. It looked lovely on the plate but was disappointed to find no actual lamb inside the pie (lots of veg and gravy just no meat). I returned it and was told they come pre made so not worth ordering a new one as that would be the same. I then ordered a lasagna- this too was disappointing, with very little meat and gluppy, soggy pasta. I gave up to be honest at this point as my family had by then finished their meals. I won’t go back again for food. The young man serving was very polite though.

Nice beet garden in the back with heat lamps. Would recommend to get a drink in the back with the heat lamps.

Good old fashioned pub with a modern, welcoming interior. Food was good and staff attentive and pleasant

We called in on a Friday late afternoon. I saw on the website kids could eat for £1 so we thought we would give it a try. Partner had a mixed grill, sausage and mash for my son, I had the curry the veg one and the youngest had chicken burger and chips. All were cooked well no complaints really. My son didn’t like the chicken burger as it was a chicken fillet in a bun and not in breadcrumbs (just incase your kids can be fussy like mine) Staff work hard here but they are still efficient, friendly and on the ball. Service was good. Starters were good, nachos,chicken wings and potato samosas. We had deserts too which were nice and a decent sized portion. There was a bit of a problem with the kids eat for £1, something about me making it a meal deal because i ordered starter and a desert with it so ask before you order. The manager sorted it out for us so it worked out ok. Also download the app before you order and sign up so you can access the other offers like a free drink or 25% off a round of drinks. Also ensure you put your car registration in when you arrive. We would visit here again.

Disappointed. Having visited my local Ember I decided to give this one a go whilst visiting my parents. Usually I am very happy with the food received but in this case the wife's gammon was chewy and peas undercooked . Dad's chicken pie was tough, it's associated veg cold and undercooked. My own burger was dry and over cooked whilst Mums fish and chips was only just 'acceptable' Very disappointed and doubt we'll be attending again.

We’ve just had a lovely lunch in the Black Bull, We were served by Jenny who was lovely , Iasked her if I could have had a finger bowl with my chicken wings and bbq sauce and she said she would ask.

Came here for my dinner had a lovely server named Kara who really smashed it out of the park and we had a good laugh about how we have the same name! I would suggest getting the ultimate burger. It’s not called ultimate for nothing!

We had a wonderful experience at The Black Bull. They offered a wide variety of options, and the service was truly excellent. We enjoyed it so much that we are looking forward to returning in the future.

Food not great but worst thing was the sarcastic member of staff. Everything seemed like too much trouble and the little dogs and comments made us feel uncomfortable. We won’t be eating here again.

Service was okay. Was sat on a table 4, which you could barely fit 1 plate on nevermind 2. Sat next to the dog area and there was a dog on a long lead not being controlled coming over sniffing us (I don't mind dogs, but not whilst I'm eating). Asked to move and was moved until the manager came over, told us we shouldn't have been put there and asked if we could move back. I politely declined as the table was too small. He found us another table however, we were made to carry our own plates across the restaurant to another table all whilst people were staring. No apology or anything was offered. I like going there for food and drinks regularly. But this has now put me off going back.

Perfect pub which serves delicious food and an array of cask ales, friendky atmosphere even if you arent local, beware they accept credit cards 😂😂 . Definitely recommend.

The Black Bull is situated in Gatacre, which is a lovely little village. It's part of the Ember Inns group so has a great choice of foods on the menu. Tried out the Tandoori chicken kebab on naan bread. It was very tasty and would recommend it. Good selection of beers and wines and friendly and attentive staff.

We all enjoyed our selfs it was a lovely afternoon and the food was delicious, staff are all very friendly and helpful towards all the customers Thanks very much for your atmosphere

Went for a family birthday meal for 8 with 4 kids under 13.

Love this place. Delicious food, outstanding service and outstanding climate of this pub with nice intimate places for a date night as well as places to sit down with family. Lately a bit disappointed as 2 of our favourites got taken off latest menu. Carbonara penne and French dipping burger were outstanding dishes. That change will not stop us from coming back again as every dish taste great.

Hi I was in the black bull tonight I was served by a beautiful lady called paula who had a lovely smile on her face and couldn't do enough for me she really did make my visit pleasant and memorable I'll be sure to call again soon

Booked a table for 10 three weeks ago on the app and requested the front room. Someone rang and asked for a preorder but after the new menu went out. When I had the pre order I tried ringing 3 times without success of getting through to anyone, had to leave 2 messages asking for someone to contact me.They eventually did on the day of the booking. We all turned up on time with one of us to follow on later. We werent given the table we requested which wasnt a big deal but we were shown to a table of six with only six chairs,had to get the rest of our chairs from another table and squash up. We were also told that one of meals wasn't available (how when it was on a pre order?). Starters started coming out,we had to ask for cutlery. Food was nice and hot. I've always gone to The Black Bull and everything has been fab but on this occasion it was a let down, definetely made me question whether to return.

Nice little eatery in a decent setting

New menu was amazing, can definitely tell there has been updates with the kitchen as the food was very high standard. Paula was so friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome and comfortable, she couldn’t have offered us more! All of my family are regulars and our experience tonight has made us even more excited to go, we would definitely recommend it to anyone!

We love the pub and the food we had was fine, but the menu was reduced. We all wanted half chicken roast dinner but you had no chicken left at 5.15pm and only 1 gammon. So myself, husband and son had to chose roast beef and my other son went for something completely different because he can't eat roast beef and doesn't eat gammon, also we avoided the gammon because a customer at the bar said it was very salty. That was disappointing as we all wanted a Sunday roast.

Sue was fantastic very attentive,very pleasant and efficient. Great personality made my experience very enjoyable will be back.

Came here for lunch yesterday with my two friends. Staff were really nice and helpful, especially Sue behind the bar who let me taste a new Sauvignon wine we had not tried before ( it was called Ned and is really lovely! ) We shared chicken wings, lamb Koftas and garlic bread, which were all delicious! We spent a very pleasant couple of hours there and will definitely be back ! Thankyou !!
