Absolutely lovely place to stay. Food at the pub was great, well priced, and with generous portions. If I have anything negative to say, it would be parking, which is £15 and is a couple of hundred metres from the townhouse which we stayed in.

Lady behind the reception wouldn't give the access code to enter the car park to charge our electric car although it states they will on the charging point. Nobody was parked in any of the electric spaces, I wonder why. Shame as the park opposite would have been perfect for our son and for us to have a few drinks and food. Certainly lost custom.

Called for our evening meal whilst on holiday, food delicious 🤤 quite pricey but pay for what you get, huge portions!

Hearty meal, we ate fish and chips, excellent value for money. Fast service, less than 30 minutes for the advertised 40 minutes. Typical pub.

NOT DOG FRIENDLY 😕 After being told by one member of staff it was dog friendly until 5.30, we went and parked the car and walked back in the cold wind and rain. On entry they have a sign saying please find your own table. We were then told dogs weren't allowed in that room, or the next , or the next. We were told we could sit in a tiny over crowded very noisy room. We wouldn't have fit in there even if we didnt have the dog with us. 2 staff , both rude. Very disappointed. Looking at other reviews we've had a lucky escape from the food though.

Booked a double room for my birthday, £147 for the night, room only rate. When we checked in we were directed to a building at the end of the street not the hotel we had booked! Lovely room but on the 3rd floor, no lift. Spoke to reception who said that was the only room available and as we had booked a standard double (as if that was the cheap option - £147 room only - really?) then that was all they had. We were opposite a pub that played ridiculously loud music until the early hours. Do not book this hotel. You will not be staying at the hotel on the website! Apparently there are 5 different buildings! The parking is £15 a night and very limited. Not impressed!

Really nice food and great service

Sadly, today's experience was extremely POOR! Bad food. Bad service!!!! Despite only a few tables occupied. Wish I could type more. Normally been good. Very disappointed!!!

We stopped at this lovely pub for a few drinks and ended up going back the next day for breakfast! The location is perfect and is really well-kept. The service is outstanding and food quality is really good. I will definitely be returning here when we're next in Caernarfon.

Staff are very switched on to allergens and there was a good choice for GF main meal, less so for pub. I had a ‘special’, grilled haddock, new potato, broccoli in a wine sauce. The haddock was excellent, but the sauce needed something to elevate it above average. For dessert I had a chocolate truffle cake, which was more like a mousse than cake, and it came with ice cream and fruit compote. It wasn’t what I expected but nice nonetheless. Overall a decent meal and I would happily return.

went for lunch, was ok. Have been a few times before and thoroughly enjoyed it. But this was a bit of a let down. very dry/overcooked rice and most of desserts not available. staff were OK but weren't often in the room with the most patrons so not much of a check in. Hopefully just a one off.

We visited for the Sunday roast. Granted this was our first proper Sunday roast (we are from the states) it was a 10/10. My wife and I were blown away at the quantity and quality of the meal and thoroughly enjoyed. We would love to return.

Been a few times and always friendly service and great quality food. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and as a local, no doubt be back again many more times. Diolch.

Great location, fabulous food and welcoming staff, very clean. However, unable to control heating in room and small car park adjacent to the inn could be an issue as it was for us with a larger family car. All together, a beautiful historic place is highly recommended.

I had fish and chips and it wasn't good

The Pub is really unique. There are a number of spaces, old style cozy fireplace Pub and larger modern space. You choose based on what's available. Order from your table via an app, which works well. The food was good, had the rib eye and trimmings. Good food. Go get for the climate, it's a pub enjoy it. Prices are reasonable. Large selection of beers and basic mixed drinks. The food is solid, Haven't stayed in the rooms, can't help describing those.

The place is a typical Welsh bar. The old-school interior is very overwhelming, but I like that in old pubs. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere in the bar was amazing, and the guests create a great vibe by loudly commenting on your choices. It’s truly a fantastic place. However, the food is disgusting. It’s simply inedible. We returned our portions, very disappointed. The manager tried to convince us that they sell a lot of food and that customers are very happy. But looking at the reviews on TripAdvisor and here, I believe people actually don’t like the food there. It’s a shame I read those reviews after trying to eat there. I strongly do not recommend this place.

Lovely local pub, with great food & really professional staff that are very friendly. The service for food is rapid even when it was busy . Great place for family or couples. Definitely recommend for people travelling or staying in this area.

The ratings were very high for the restaurant which made us book it.. first impressions were fine… manager and staff friendly decor as you would expect from a very old pub rustic… however, after choosing what we wanted the server said nothing that we had chosen was available… as with our second choices… in the end we settled our third choice… they said they had been busy… they are the only place open on a Monday so obviously but to run out of so much was ridiculous… food was OK at best… and service was hard to get… if it’s not a Monday… go somewhere else…

Similar to other reviews, the famous Welsh pie was basically cheesy mashed potato with an extremely thin layer of mince. Lacked any distinctive taste with the only fame instigated by it being the most expensive bowl of mash I’ve ever bought (over £17). For such a beautiful setting, the meal really ruined the experience and left me wishing I’d gone elsewhere.

Always amazing stay. Great rooms , great value .. breakfast is, dare I say, AMAZINGand FREE .. WiFi is fast and FREE. All the things you don't get in Premier Inn and Travelodge... If you have a choice stay here .. oh their sausages are absolutely Banging.. really!!

Ancient cosy pub in the heart of Caernafon.

Menu is good and the quality of the food is ok. The service is awful. 6 of us were eating only 5 meals came out it was clear that they had made a mistake, when they eventually brought the last meal out it was just put on the table with no apology at all. Overall, the servers were not very good. Which is a shame because it has the potential to be a lot better. We would definitely not use this place again.

Disgusting food. I had the creamy garlic mushrooms which was cold and bland. I then had a curry for main, which tasted AWFUL. Never tasted anything like it. Everything is microwaved and tastes grim. The staff member was an older lady who kept coughing when taking our order and serving food and not once put her hand up which instantly put me off my food. She was short and rude. Shocking food and poor service. Will not be returning and definitely would not recommend.

Popped in for our tea after a day in caenarfon. What a find!! Beautiful old style tavern style pub, low ceilings, beams, open fire.. Beautiful Staff amazing, service amazing as for the food!!! Get yourself in here, my husband had the mix grill 😋 unreal, I had the homemade lasagne, best lasagne I have literally ever had. Friendly locals, and the big bonus very pet friendly We will be back

Very nice, atmospheric and cozy pub in Caernarfon. The location seems to have once been the heart of the local red light district, and dates back to 1522. It is a bit reminiscent of a brown café, but slightly more atmospheric. They have a simple menu with good quality dishes. They also have a nice range of beers. Ordering and payment is done via a QR code. Staff is very warm and hospitable!

I went here around 6 years ago and the food was very good, but its not as good as it used to be, still decent but its lost it a bit unfortunately. The place itself looks very nice and cosy inside, gives you that old fashioned pub kind of vibe. They do some good beers and the service is okay, and the price is alright for what it is i guess, decent restaurant.

Very nice restaurant/ bar with a fireplace in each room. Quite busy. Staff are very nice. Rooms are fine though the only comment I would make is that the heating is set to go on and off at certains times which for us meant it was quite warm at night or cold when you get up in the morning. Overall, recommended.

This is a fabulous find inside the old city wall and very old building, rooms are fantastic and well appointed, super comfy beds and brilliant friendly helpful staff. Take a walk into town or down onto the front easy -easy from here, food is also excellent the steak and ale pie, sublime

Tried the carvery last week , food was excellent but service not so.good. Having never been to the carvery before we asked two female members of staff who were standing in the restaurant area where we should sit and we were just told 'anywhere' so we sat in the restaurant. It was only when looking through the menus on the table that we found out that the carvery was in the coach house at the back. When we went there another older female member of staff was very dry, didn't see her smile once and she just stood around most of the time. We didn't like the app order system so ordered at the bar .. drinks very expensive considering it was just a dash of cordial and soda water .. about £3 more than other places! Food however was delicious and couldn't fault the two men who served the food .. one thing though we dont like staff plating up vegetables on a carvery, that should be our choice to do as isnt that what a carvery is all about, to be able to help yourself? Overall, quality of food was excellent but some staff training wouldn't go amiss with some of them.

Very poor Sunday Roast. Beef and Turkey were tough, dry and overcooked. Yorkshire puddings flat and soggy. The only cola available was from a tap, and it was flat and watery. Jam sponge was adequate. I would not recommend this as a place to dine.

The most delicious pastry I have ever tasted. The mash was to die for & the beef was perfection. Staff were smiling and attentive, very reasonably priced food and also clean. 10/10. Would highly recommend

Came here for a quick meal and beer. Very disappointed with the food. Veggie Tangine thing - bland and small portion - especially when priced at £16. Bar service a bit indifferent. The so called 'vegetarian' menu included dishes with non-vegetarian ingredients listed (Parmesan). If the kitchen is this unaware of the basics with the knowledge of their ingredients I wouldn't want to take my chances if I had food allergies.

It was a wet, windy day, and we called into the bar for a coffee. Lovely service. Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay.

Stayed at the hotel which was fine. Had a drink (or maybe 2) in the bar where the staff were miserable! Went out for a wander then came back in to the restaurant for food- again the staff were just unhappy, this isn't great when you are out for a celebratory meal. The staffs mood spoiled our night but to be fair the food was tasty...

Food was alright, terrible service. Bar staff looked like they were at a funeral, and someone killed their cat the day before.

A fabulous traditional bar that oozes atmosphere and history. Bar is so cosy and even on wet, dark Sunday night, was packed with mix of locals and visitors. Ordered filled Yorkshire pudding and was disappointed but was very late, so think missed the best.

Great choice of drinks and friendly staff, highly recommended.

Excellent menu and food. We had steak and ale pies, lasagne and pork belly and all were top notch. Prices look steep for a pub but the portions are huge and it’s really, really good. Nice selection of beers too.

We were served by the wonderful and friendly Ryan. The food was excellent and we had a very good time. Highly recommended.

Went for an evening meal. Parking nearby was not easy as the only parking that the Inn provides is for residents. However once inside the Inn is warm and welcoming. It was very busy but we received good service and our food was delivered quickly (Despite the warning on the menu of a 40 - 75 minute wait) The menu suggested a convoluted way of ordering by scanning a QR code, Logging into their WiFi, setting up an account, paying in advance etc however we just gave our order to the waitress and paid at the end like we do in other restaurants, and they were fine with this. The food was pretty good and very large portions. We weren't sure what "Scrappy Chips" were but it turns out its the chips you normally find at the end of a bag that you don't bother eating. That aside we enjoyed the meal, found the prices reasonable and the staff friendly.

If first thing that hits you when you walk into a pub is heat from real fire, then you know you have arrived somewhere you won't be leaving soon... Great pub, Great selection of beers, cask and draught, food was nice to so if you are anywhere near, call in!

After writing a bad review I wish to give an update , Zoe received my email and has acted on it very quickly. They called and apologised for disturbed sleep and offered me a two day stay with breakfast in their room with shower , I can only give a big shout out to the staff for offering me another chance to enjoy there hospitality thank you.

Arrived at the restaurant having visited several times before. Always a pleasure to go there and food had been previously excellent although a little expensive. Always worth spending our treasured moments there such a Birthday treats. Our most recent trip however was very poor. The service was good but the app to order meant that a server did not take our orders. This does not feel like a special outing. The food was diabolical. Starters of Nachos described as being in a salsa which translated means sauce came with chopped tomatoes and no sauce in sight. Guacamole was a joke, no seasoning, no garlic. Bland and for£8 a little taste should be included. I ordered swordfish which was not available, neither was sea bream so I had to opt for Tuna which promised to be seared on the griddle. Wow! The Tuna was desicated, overcooked and leather like. It was cooked to an unrecognisable consistency, I’m afraid that it made me feel quite sick. It had no taste, resembled meat and as a pescatarian this did not appeal at all. Half was left. I could hardly eat it and don’t think I will touch Tuna again. Tinned Tuna has more taste quite honestly and definitely better consistency. The salad was doused in a very unpleasant dressing, potatoes and egg had no taste. I’m not a good cook but I did feel like I needed to offer advise on how these foods should be prepared and cooked The experience was altogether nasty and for an extortionate price, the visit left an unpleasant taste. We will not be returning at anytime until they charge the prices that befit the food. This would mean charging less than McDonalds which I must say, appeals to me more than returning. Drinks were tiny and expensive.

A large, and traditional pub, with lodgings, should you want to stay over. A great selection of beer and ales. We went for dinner. The food was absolutely brilliant, served quickly too! Sometimes you can wait upwards of 40 minutes due to its popularity. Theres a lot to choose from, with specials too. I highly recommend the Mixed Grill. Highly recommended all round!

We needed a place to eat after returning from our day trip on the Highland Railway. We came across the Black Bouy and were pleased to find it was dog friendly. The place is old and has great character. There is a restaurant at the rear and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good, and healthy portions left us stuffed. Nice local beer too, and set close by the castle and old walls. Legend has it that it also featured the first bi-lingual jukebox in Wales.

Staff was so helpful. The food was excellent. The accommodation exceeded my expectations.

We visited The Black Boy Inn today, and for the prices we paid, we expected a lot more. We ordered two steak and ale pies that were supposed to come with vegetables. However, we only received about two small pieces of carrot each, three peas (and that’s not an exaggeration), and a piece of broccoli the size of a thumb. It seems the prices are aimed at international customers. Due to the high prices and lack of value, we will not be visiting again.

We went there for a Sunday Roast last summer and it was just great so when we returned from Ireland with the ferry in Holyhead, we knew we had to do a little detour and come here again. We arrived there just after 12 and the restaurant was full, so we were seated in the bar, but we were happy we got a table and the ambience was lovely, a real old pub. We had a Sunday Roast again and it was just delicious and the portions were enormous. I had a Guinness to go with my meal and it tasted exactly like in Ireland. We can highly recommend this pub. If we ever are in the region, we will definitely come here again.

We had the chicken curry and the steak pie and both meals were really tasty, definitely glad we went here! The building is really interesting inside, there was a great selection of beers available, and the staff all seemed nice. We even got to try out a bit of Welsh!

We always drop in at the The Black Boy Inn on our yearly holiday in Caernarfon - it used to be a highlight of the trip. Unfortunately from the declining food and abysmal service, this will likely be our last. Pre Covid the restaurant had beautiful food and excellent service, with an ambience which added to the dining experience which you didn't mind paying slightly more for. During Covid changes were, understandably, made. However these changes still seem to be in place which really reduces the experience but the price is just as high as before. The food was okay, but not worth the cost. Service was difficult with staff who didn't know the menu, or the wines, at all. I've honestly had better service at a Toby Carvery. It's such a shame to see this once lovely historical restaurant decline into a glorified wetherspoons.

Had the lunch menu and it was nice enough, certainly worth the money. Nice location on the back streets.

Best mixed grill ever, lovely location, everyone in our party enjoyed lunch too.

Great food fantastic staff and rooms

POOR FOOD/ RUDE BARMAID. the food- The steak and ale pie can best be described as a poor chip-shop pie and the Battered Haddock was over cooked. The scrappy chips says it all. The service at the bar can best be described as a NO LOOK SERVE, there was minimal interaction with all customers. Not one staff member asked how the food was because they know they would get alot of bad reaction. We were looking forward to the visit but it was a poor experience all round.

Mix grill was nice and massive. Location was great. Breakfast was beautiful. Will definitely return.

Food was delicious, I had the vegan coleslaw and jacket potato with beans. Very big portion but had no idea if the crisps were gluten free or not. More choices for vegans and gluten free would be helpful. Callus was amazing, tried his best to accommodate and very smiley chap.

Cannot comment on the rooms, as only went there for dinner. Food was great, even at busy times, but service was lacking. Food came quick but had to wait over 20 minutes for our drink order. Good location in the town and parking for residents available too.

The pub has amazing internal design. Lots of history and just nice to be inside. Makes you feel comfortable and cozy. We ordered the food and drinks from the bar code link on the table. It was quick. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our cod with chips. It was either lacking spices or was just not fit our expectations. I also had two beers and one of them clearly tasted with soap inside.

Didn't stay here. So can't rate the rooms. Food was lovely and fresh and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The steak pie was very good, I'd give a solid 8.5/10. The prawn spaghetti that my spouse ordered on the other hand was according to her, a very solid 1/10.

We spent 3 nights here. I found the staff to be lovely. The breakfast servers excellent (I was the lady chose off-piste with avocado) and reception very sweet (re: lost hairbrush doh!) All extremely hard working. Bar music excellent. Thanks V much.

The setting is very welcoming but the food is terrible. The Welsh Pie was pretty good but the double burger was absolutely inedible... fake meat!

I’d read a previous review about the service here but dismissed it as a one off. Sadly on a visit today the service was as terrible, being ignored at the bar twice and then when finally being served not even a glimmer of courtesy. Lasagna was tasty and was the Welsh pie but the chips were barely cooked. Also do not trust the menu posted on google as the prices have definitely gone up since that was posted.

We called in for lunch as we've often heard radio advertising. The venue is charming and staff were friendly but we were very disappointed by the food.

Fantastic experience here in this authentic Welsh Inn. Very friendly and efficent staff and beautiful rooms where attention to detail is to commended. I couldn't recommend more.

EXTREMELY OLD PUB WITH CLEAN, OUTSIDE GROUNDS NICE IN GOOD WEATHER. CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA. GOOD SERVICE, LET DOWN BY DEEP FRIED FREEZER FOOD.

Brilliant location and lovely wee play park for the kids while I enjoyed a pint but bar staff were not very attentive or welcoming sadly.

For the time it took to arrive we expected fresh delicious food. I was served worst fish and chips I've ever eaten! Way overpriced for TASTELESS soggybatter, lamb was absolutely tiny for nearly £25. Dont bother, no one even come to ask how the food was. 0 stars
