The food! Absolutely fantastic. I have never had lamb cooked to such perfection and the steak my husband had was delish. Quite the query vibe but the food quality for the price was exceptional. Truly beautifully cooked food as it should be.

Lovely place, and a life saver for me, after a strenuous climb up Cadair Idris! The proprietor was charming and helpful. And, the breakfast was the best! I'll be back again!

This place sits in the most perfect location for walking the minfford path for Cadair Idris. Gordon is an absolute superstar and looks after his guests amazingly. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food is on another level…..outstanding! Following walking up Cadair Idris Gordon lit a log fire and made the lounge area comfortable and cosy! I can’t thank him enough for an amazing stay.

Auch wenn die Bedienung bedingt durch den Familienbetrieb etwas skurril wirkt, sind wir hervorragend bedient worden und das Essen ist excellent. Die Steaks im Rest von Wales waren deutlich schlechter gebraten.

There are a few really good places to eat in Mach and Tywyn. This is the best. The food is amazing, low price and quick service. Lovely comfortable bar area, immaculate and rustic dining room and a beautiful beer garden/seating area at the foot of Cadair Idris. The owner has plenty of useful local knowledge and goes out of this way to be helpful. I'd actually say that if you are dining alone or looking for a relaxed and friendly place to stay alone this is particularly great as the owner really makes you feel included and will happily chat and take a little time out for you. The food...well, like I said the best around and at a low price. I spend a lot of time in this area, so glad I found this hidden gem.

We stayed one night at Gwesty Minffordd. The hotel was hard to find - the sat nav wanted to take us into the lake. However, eventually found it on the main road (drove past it initially!) Upon arrival it was a bit chaotic - don’t think they are used to checking more than one person in at a time. The room: nicely decorated and a kettle, biscuits and teas/coffees provided. No TV which wasn’t the end of the world for us but as the WiFi was so poor, perhaps a TV would be a good idea. The bathroom was a bit dated - namely the shower but fine for one night’s stay. The food: we had an evening meal which was DELICIOUS!! Big praise to the chef. This is what really made the place stand out. The breakfast equally didn’t disappoint. The host: Gordon was a bit rushed upon check-in as written above. However, he did his best to make us all feel welcome later in the evening and clearly works exceptionally hard. All in all a nice place to stay. Not sure if it warrants the £120 price tag because of the standard of the room but the food was fabulous and a very convenient location (once found - which was primarily down to us).

We call on occasions whilst travelling North from Pembrokeshire on the A487. Minffordd Hotel nestles by the road at the foot of Cader Idris and the restaurant is a favourite stop for both the hospitality of the host and the quality of the food served. There is a comprehensive menu which suits all tastes both traditional, vegetarian and a touch of the Asian. A small but well stocked bar provides for all tastes with many local bottled beers and ciders available. Recently redecorated it has a pleasant homely atmosphere and provides a comfortable eating experience. It is a small hotel with a limited number of rooms but a peep into one of them shows a tasteful decor and furnishing. For me it would be the ideal place to seek sanctuary in a snowstorm! Recommended.

The landlord can appear a little dour to begin with; don't be put off, we were looked after extremely well and my two boys were treated like kings. It may feel a bit odd to wait in the reception room and be called through to the dining room but it was great and they take huge pride in their food. Old fashioned, left behind by stylish decore, wonderful!

What a delightful place to stay, Gordon & Michelle were very accommodating with the menu. I visited with a friend a they devised a menu for a Vegan and Coeliac - which was excellent. For walkers the hotel is ideally placed with Cadair Idris right on the door step and if you enjoy planes, the location is ideal for the Mach Loop. Unfortunately for me the weather wasn't great so no plane photography, maybe next time.

We had planned to stay in Machynlleth but there was no room at the Inn so we decided to drive on to Dollgellau. En route we passed this place so did a U turn and enquired as to room availability. Room was great - clean and tidy and had everything you needed. We ate in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised the food and drink were excellent from the real ales to the dessert wine! And the starters to the deserts - all fantastic! plus a lovely breakfast in the morning. Our host was very friendly and had some great stories to tell but he certainly knew how to run things smoothly and professionally. I cant fault our stay at all - thanks.

An unplanned run out on a Sunday in this beautiful part of North Wales resulted in us stopping off at this small hotel and restaurant. Being this time of year it was quiet, but we were soon joined by a few other people. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, and there was a very good range of local beers and a Welsh cider on offer, as well as a wide range of wines etc. We ended up having the locally sourced beefburger (from a top Bala butcher) and a fantastic salmon risotto. The meal were reasonably priced, with a good range of lighter options, too. Service was speedy and attentive. We really hadn't expected to come across such a lovely little restaurant on a pretty dull January Sunday. We would certainly recommend it!

Very confusing website saying kids welcome in bars and lounges (presumably not in the restaurant but that is not stated explicitly). However it seems you can't get adult meals in what they call the cafe (is that a bar or lounge? Goodness knows). There is a kids menu in the cafe though.... All very confused, we turned up anyway... A rather grumpy man on reception told us you won't want to eat here as kids would have to buy an adult meal as there is no kids menu in the restaurant. So kids it seems are ok in the restaurant but only if they buy an adult meal. Even more confused! Then he says wait I'll see what the chef can do. After a short while he returns to say chef can't do anything as he is currently eating himself. We gave up and went elsewhere. All very odd indeed. They don't seem to want your money!

Just driving by on a cold wintry Sunday afternoon and called at this lovely little gem for lunch. As soon as we walked in we saw that the place was full of character and knew this would be a pleasant experience. Food was freshly cooked and delicious. The building was historical and interesting and everywhere was very clean. The owner was chatty and friendly. Thank you.

Arrived at 7:30 for dinner (a party of four, two adults and 2 children) to be told we couldn't have dinner, because they wold be bust later! the place was deserted apart from four gentlemen sitting outside who were about to leave. It's an odd place (and I'm being kind with that judgement!)

Not a large menu but adequate with a fairly reasonable selection of starters and desserts. Owner very accommodating and made us very welcome. Ordered 2 No. perfectly cooked locally sourced rib-eye steak with fresh vegetables and French fries, most expensive dish on the menu but well recommended. After a hard hike up and down Cadair Idris, this restaurant location is ideally located being only around the corner from the Minffordd Car Park. Recommended.

The only eating place within miles that was open (at least coming from the south), and we were desperat for some food before stopping for the night. We paid £13 for quite plain burgers (the bun was really good though), and used ages to pay as the card machine didn't manage to contact the network.Nice and cose place though, if you have the money to stay here.

We camped locally and this place was the only 'pub' in immediate area. It wasnt open in the week which was a disappointment however noted it was open when we completed the walk up Cadair Idris. We stopped by excitedly for a quick pint. On arrival we were greeted by a guy who wasnt the most friendly. We ordered the only lager he had... carlsberg. Two pints came to £7.50!!! (and they werent topped up when clearly they needed to be!) Very old fashioned decor, like I say, not very inviting. We therefore elected to walk the 2 miles up a lovely bridlepath to two fab pubs with great service! A shame though for the local campsite....

We haven't stayed here but its within walking distance of the campsite that we usually stay in, at the foot of Cadair Idris. We have actually been lucky enough to eat outside every time we have been here so I can't describe the restaurant. But the food is good! This might be influenced by the fact that I had just walked up the mountain, but I had the most delectable meal I have enjoyed for a while here the other day. All for a reasonable price. If you are climbing Cadair Idris, stop here afterwards. If you are on the road between south and north Wales, stop here! However, this may not apply for much longer as the new road currently being built will bypass this beautiful valley. If you are staying in the Tal-y-llyn valley, definitely consider here!

We ate at this hotel on the August Bank Holiday. The first pint of beer we had was off and we only reluctantly got another pint of bottled beer out of the guy running both the bar and the restaurant. When my girlfriend found a piece of plastic in her pie there was no immediate apology. When asked what he could do to make amends I suggested that he give us the meal on the house but he said that was not possible. He seemed more concerned that the spoons were incorrectly arranged than that we were disappointed by the plastic in the pie. "i hope that this won't put you off coming again" Well actually it did. The next night we walked a mile in the rain rather than go back there.Would I go there again? No.
