I was an ardent fan of this place - superb wine list and really friendly and knowledgable staff. That was up to August 2023, when the manager left, the bar closed for a two week summer break and then it all began to fall apart. My visit in December 2023 was a very sad experience. I had brought friends to introduce them to the place and was so embarrassed by the decline. The Black Book of interesting wines was a (largely unreadable handwritten) pale image of its former self and the service, lighting and atmosphere were shocking. Not a single staff member of the former team remains and all signs of professionalism have disappeared too. What appeared to be the most senior staff on duty were just rude! The most junior guy was trying his best but clearly against the odds. I am not clear if the bar remains part of the Black Book group (Cabotte and others) but if it does, someone in Head Office needs to step in and rescue it!

Awful. Just don’t! It lacks anything and certainly no character or friendliness! Dank, with no ambience whatsoever! Seems like just a feeble attempt to call itself a bar!

You will need google maps and a good eye to find the door that leads to the basement. Took nearly 10 mins to get in at 630pm as a bell system was in operation and nobody answered it. Once in though it was a welcome retreat from the hustle of Soho. Not the cheapest place to drink but the service was fab and the choice of wine excellent.

Tatty interiors, not in a deliberate chic way, just completely run down. Service was very hit and miss, the majority of the servers could barely manage to bother and we had to wait 20 mins for our first drink - considering we were 2 of only 6 people in there it seemed far too long. The cocktails were ok - overpriced even for London but they were better than the wine. Really could be presented better. It was the wine that was the ultimate let down considering this is in part, a wine bar... We had to send one glass back which even the sommelier admitted was corked. No apology though. The wine glasses were smudged and looked a bit grubby and the cheese board was completely lacking in any decent quality. It might as well have come with a Sainsburys sticker on it. The comte was like eating plastic... There are so many better quality and affordable places to go in central london. I wouldn't bother with this place.

We decided to go to the black book after going to the theatre for some drinks and maybe something to eat, we were met at the door by a very friendly door man who pointed us in the right direction, great selection of wine either by the glass or bottle, small menu tapas style but delicious, helpful staff Definitely recommend this place for late night drinks.

This place is like an oasis in the desert in Soho. An amazing atmosphere with a warm and welcoming quintessential bar manager: Peter. The wine selection is amazing, the music is fantastic and diverse, and I shall definitely be coming back. Long love The Black Book!

You know when you roam Soho London looking for a unique venue cause you are in the mood for something different, well, I was in that situation a few months ago walking down Frith street passing the Black Book. First I was friendly with the famous and talented security at the door who just happened to be an upcoming singing artist. None other then the lovely Pariss. Places who are downstairs have that special dark but yet inviting ambiance and interior, well, not all but definitely the Black Book. The interior is the first thing striking your attention. The furniture is well placed and mood strategised. On entering you pass the “pay and order” station. I don’t know about your personal experiences but my own allowed me to immediately feel welcome and after one drink I was part of the family ( regulars ). There is the general manager by the name of Peter who happens to be from Bulgaria. Very dry humor but when it comes to welcoming you and making feel included and allow you to experience his professionalism and expertise you know you are in the right place for a few good drinks with a good atmosphere but also an experience of art and culture. Next on my list is Matheo. Apparently this wine connoisseur is here day and night. You know how you travel to France or Italy and you get that special unique experience of a waiter or cook or chef spoiling you with the local cuisine and making you feel right at home, well, multiply that a few 100 times and that is the experience you get with Mathew the expert. I can’t leave out Stephano. I can sit by the bar for hours being entertained by this hunk of a barman. “He is very good” is actually an understatement, he is bloody good. The guy can entertain for sure. Here is the French Wine Director , professional to the T. Also there is the Asian manager always smiling and making sure your lips stay dry and you keep your smile. The drinks are by far the best you may find in Soho, every drink is on a 5 star level. My desire is that a place like this should be a continual winner. This venue is the Bugatti and Rolls Royce’s of venues. Enough said, should you be a respectful lady or gentleman of good culture do yourself a favour and pop by, you won’t regret it Baruch Ben-David.

I visited Black book a few times since they opened in September. If you enjoy drinking top wines at reasonable prices in Soho, then BlackBook is the place to go. Service is amazing, place is lovely, food is good and the wine selection is a paradise for wine experts as well as occasional wine drinkers. Staff is fun, engaging and Sommelier is super knowledgable but not intimidating. I would definitely recommend this place to go with friends or with colleagues.

Glad to see a place like that in Soho. Keep the spirit of prohibition time, just a door in the main street with a cozy atmosphere in basement, ideal for winter evening. No need to mention welcoming staff with a great selection of wine & food. Fancy for some fun try the mysterious wine (change every week white or red to satisfy all palates!) Thank you again can't wait to come back...

It all looks OK but service is poor and the bar food served is cheap frozen food at prices that should require a far better quality. There are far better options in London

I used to love this place, but haven't been for nearly 10 years. I'm glad to see it hasn't changed too much, but with the downside that it is now apparently owned by BrewDog. Luckily, it appears they let them continue without having to follow the "taproom by numbers" you get out of most BrewDog bars, so not only does it have it's own look, but there is a much more interesting selection of beers. It was easy enough to get a seat on a Saturday afternoon, which is always a bonus in a decent location like this.

Fui a desayunar. Mucho a mucho. Este lugar no es para mi. Buen café sin embargo.
