Deafening loud. Intimidating chubby bored looking bar tender.Walked in...... walked out.... music way too loud for an afternoon visit. Shame as the seating/interior was nice. Just not a social atmosphere

Personal agradable y servicial.

Nestled within the now slightly salubrious, “lanes”, this small but popular bar is a real Gem. Catering for the ubiquitous Millennial there are a good if a little tame selection of Gins & plenty of Rums which is obviously the next big thing? The decor is a little confused with Butterfly’s on the ceiling, plants around the bar. The tables look to be homemade & often worryingly sparsely occupied. The thing which makes this place better than usual is that the Fish & Chip Shop opposites offers free deliveries! I imagine this place is very popular come Sunday where Incan imagine groups op people enjoying the selection of available board games over a drink & some chips

This is a great friendly pub. A bit rough around the edges, with regard to the decor, but the best bit is you can buy your chips from the Grovsenor Fish Bar opposite and eat them in here. I had a pint of Blue Moon American Draft ale and this was served with a slice of orange. Not too expensive for a city pub, £10.15 for my ale and a Gin and Tonic. Definitely be back.

An engagingly quirky pub with lots of plants, a host of butterflies on the ceiling and a few odd armchairs next to a wall filled with a variety of prints. Unsure as to what vegan beers were available but the Aspall cider provided welcome refreshment on a warm day.

Popped in for a drink with my friend today, lovely staff who were very friendly, having a joke and a chat. We sat in the courtyard outside which was very refreshing and peaceful. What a hidden gem in Norwich, will defiantly be returning for afternoon drinks sometime. Did see posters for live music in the evenings so may have to do some investigating into that.

I was getting fish and chips one day (which are the best ever!!) opposite and had a little peek at this place. Years ago I would not have walked in on my own as it had a certain clientelle but that has all changed. I took myself off for Sunday lunch and it was fab. I do not like eating a massive meal at lunchtime on a Sunday so opted for the smaller portion. It was just enough and the vegetables were fab.

Not much of a pub really, but it provides a very welcome overspill from the Grosvenor Fish Bar when it gets rammed. Tables and chairs are basic, but it was great to be eating fish and chips with the Smiths wonderful album "The Queen Is Dead" playing as background music with half the clientele singing along with it. Is that why the last track "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" was cut half way through? - at least it was replaced with Van Morrison "Moondance "album.!! Bit of an oddity of a pub, but it seems to work in its quirkiness.

This bar is bohemian as other reviewers say. Like the location. Like the fact you can bring in fish and chips from across the road (although be quick as they sell out fast on busy nights) and that they have decks. Stripped back vibe. We went for Norwich cocktail week. Wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I choose - I think it was a moloko- but that wasn't their fault. Too short and strong for me, however I'd go back to have a drink and do the fish and chip supper. Worth a very good rating in my book.

Odd one this. I liked it and enjoyed the visit. Strange that the neighbouring fish & chip shop uses it as a remote sitting area... but it kind of works. The food looked / smelled excellent. As for the pub, the bogs were not a joy to behold, but the pub itself was fun and friendly. Nice place. Some good beers on tap.

This is a busy city pub with a fantastic fish and chip shop opposite where your order can be delivered to the pub. Tables could be wiped down more frequently, particularly those in the back room and the white wine needs to be served cold which unfortunately it never is. This is a friendly pub with a good selection of beer, wine and soft drinks, but really makes this pub is the Grosvenor Fish and Chips.

Was looking forward to coming here after a well enjoyed visit several years ago. More popular now these days, but good selection of beers and music. A few minor points were that there was food all over the floor and the bar maid couldn't tell that a halloween ale that was so cloudy was off and undrinkable. But the biggest issue that there was no ladies toilets as they are in function area and that was closed off due it being hired. Their solution? Tell the women to use the mens toilets which was very unsuitable.

Went last night to eat my fish and chips from the bar across the road. It's mostly a young, hipster crowd which isn't me, but other customers and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Basic bar right in the middle of 'old' Norwich. Often has a good selection of unusual beers / ales on tap. Perfect location across the street from the best fish n chips in town... which you can eat in The Birdcage. One big negative are the loos, which frankly are a bit of a shocker and in need of replacement. Rating would be higher if these were fixed. However, if you like somewhere basic that has a certain character then this could be for you... don't wear your Sunday best!

Good if you want to eat fish and chips on some nice furniture, and that's about where it ends. Rubbish service, unaccommodating staff, didn't have their garden open on one of the hottest days of the year and to top it off, the beer selection was awful and overpriced (£5.50 a pint for your only half decent beer, really?).

We popped in on a rather warm day the first thing that hits you is a smell of urine and after visiting the gents I released why as there seems to e a problem with the pluming as that's where the odour was coming from you can't mask a problem like that and maybe that's why you only had a few people in although it was busy around outside.Had one drink and left, may return depending whether it smells any better in the future.

NegativesThe toilets do not appear to be cleaned at all or on a regular basis. The smell of stale urine hits you as soon as you walk in. I don't know if this is because the toilets are unisex which to me isn't a good thing. As you potentially have to walk past guys using the wall urinals to get to a cubicle. The furniture looks cool as it is all mix match and retro, but its not the sort of place you can sit for more than a few hours chatting with friends. As the chairs are very uncomfortable. The drinks are quite expensive for what they are.PositivesThe food from the chip shop opposite is great and can be eating inside the pub. If you can get a table which is difficult during busy times. The staff are friendly and the pub is in a good central location. Please do something about the smell in the toilets, I can see from previous reviews that this has been brought up before. If I was the licensee I would have addressed this by now.

my brother visited me this weekend and we decided to have a shop in Norwich we visited the fish bar to eat in but were told the downstairs was closed for a private party but the girl serving us informed us that we could eat our dish in the pub opposite and they would bring them over for us .we proceeded to the pub and ordered a pot of tea for two and made our way down the steps to await our food.being in the licensed trade myself for many years I was appalled at the state of the pub we were served with 2 stained mugs 2 stained tspoons a filthy t pot and an even filthier milk jug to which we shoved to one side food was delivered and ok but I would recommend that the grovener ceases to recommend customers to eat in this establishment as the state of this pub is filthy and not doing the fish bar any favours whatsoever

Me and my girlfriend dropped in for a few cocktails; we really liked the look of the place. The decor is well thought-out and the staff were really friendly. The drinks: we had an Old-Fashioned and a cutely named 'Twinkle'. The drinks were lovely but we hit a snag. A rather unpleasant snag. A spider tucked neatly underneath the cherry of my drink! We sadly only noticed this unwanted resident of my beverage after having almost completely finished. Took this up with the bartender (obviously a bit of a hygiene issue) who just laughed it off. We didn't make a big deal of it at the time but it turned the experience on its head and we felt the matter was dealt with poorly. Sadly feel like we can't return. A shame.

Came here as part of the literary festival, and so glad I did. What a frightful pub, with exciting and indie décor, located right in the best bit of the city. Fantastic drink options, yes they take plastic money, & you can get your dinner from the fabulous cup ship over the road and enjoy it with your pint. There is everything to love about this place. Downstairs is an intimate venue, where I could hear the poets clearly, even without the provided microphone, and you had no choice but to be swept away. Unpleasant environment. Once sat I noticed how dirty and littered the floor was along with food crumbs spread across the bench seating areas. Plenty of staff to clean the floor and tables yet this has not been done. Coffee was very tasteless and overly milky, would even say a tad sour, an overpriced experience. Sat near the back kitchen and a slightly eggy smell is wafting into the seating area which just adds to the grubby feel in this place.
