The service was awful and rude I asked the waitress why the new outside patio area wasn’t accessible to which her reply was ‘I don’t know I didn’t build it’ Terrible attitude and terrible that the outside area has not been made accessible My colleague stayed and had a burger which was no more than a 6/10

We arrived at the restaurant early to have drinks first, we was seated at our table at the correct time, we made our choice straight away, everything was going fine, we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere within the restaurant, after our main course we waited for the staff to come over with the dessert menu and quickly ordered our dessert to then be told you have to leave the table now because the table is booked, nobody said at anytime that we only had one and a half hours to eat our meal we was disappointed, we didn’t cause a situation, when we spoke to the manager Jonathan Bennett he was very arrogant and full of self importance, we will definitely not be going back

We hadn’t been before but had been to Andrew Nutter’s previous restaurant in Rochdale so, desperate to get out of the house after a pronged stay after surgery, we went on May Bank Holiday for lunch. We booked the downstairs bar as my wife is disabled and couldn’t manage the stairs to get up the restaurant proper. We were more than impressed. The decor was bright and airy. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food first class. My main course was a ribeye steak cooked perfectly and my wife had sea bream that she said was delightful. All in all a very happy experience and we shall return.

I come to The Bird at Birtle at least once a month and every time I am welcomed with such lovely food, helpful staff and a great atmosphere. There is something for everyone on the menu, even if you are a fussy eater like me! You can clearly see that the staff are extremely passionate about the place and this is reflected in not only the presentation of dishes, menu and taste - but the drinks and exceptional service the waiters always provide. The menu changes often to reflect seasonal changes, with a weekly specials menu. I would highly recommend the fillet steak - it is so rich and delicious! Truly a hidden gem in the local area.

Regularly come in for drinks at the bar, meal once a month. Never had any issues with the restaurant at all but last night the bar service and attitude was atrocious. All going well, not many in as per usual, (and there seems to be little focus on improving this). At 9pm the music went off. At this point there were 5 people in, two of which had only just arrived for drinks. The atmosphere just evaporated with one bar tender sitting down having finished his shift, staring at everyone as though we were now impinging on his time. When we asked why the music had gone off we were told the system was broken and he was using his own phone, and now he’d finished work that was that. I’d like to say this information was delivered nicely but it wasn’t. The two people who’d just arrived mentioned how uncomfortable they felt too. The website states the bar is open until midnight but at 9:05 it was clear we had to leave. We understood the kitchen had closed, absolutely no issues with that, but there is little in the way of welcome or customer focus downstairs. As an aside, a friend had joined us earlier but left after one pint (can’t remember the name of it but had only been added that day) and he said it was clear no one knows how to look after cask/real as it had the pungent aroma of line cleaner to it. If they want to keep wet sales they need to up their game, simple requests were met with a sigh and a roll of the eye. A real shame and it soured our night.

Beautiful setting, internal presentation of the downstairs bar and upstairs restaurant was lovely, flowers everywhere, looked charming… We were a party of four adults, out for a Saturday evening. All the food was delicious and extremely well presented. One of the best meals out we’ve had for years. Great choice of drinks and not overly priced. Service was excellent. Would recommend and return.

The service was ok but the food was really disappointing. They clearly wanted us to order the festive menu but we chose from the a la carte. Salt cod was a disgusting mush, the beetroot was pickled and not fresh! The main complaint was two cold duck dishes served and the chicken was on herby mash without any herbs. Pouring rocket on top of a dish does nothing to improve it! We complained about the cold duck and were not charged but expected to be offered an alternative or the chef to apologise but this didn’t happen. It spoilt my partner’s birthday as he went home hungry and disappointed. We won’t be returning unless things improve.

Service was very slow and they forgot the children’s meals and mixed up one of our main courses. Food was pretty bland but maybe this was just the festive menu. Not family friendly as advertised all over their website. We had a small baby, toddler and five year old with us and were rudely asked to keep them quiet as an older couple had complained despite other tables being louder. It ruined the entire experience and we definitely won’t be going there again. Even without feeling humiliated for bringing younger children who were clearly hungry and bored due to the poor service, the food was not up to expectations. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Management tried to redeem themselves with free drinks and a £50 voucher but this doesn’t rectify the appalling way we were treated. I doubt we will even regift to be honest!

Went today for my 60+1 birthday with my family. Everything going well till we asked for the 2 & 5 year olds dinner to come with the starters, never arrived! Finally arrived after we had finished our starters. Mains arrived, one missing! We all finished our mains before that meal arrived. The childrens behaved so well, they had books, colouring and felt pictures to keep them occupied and our 9 month old grandson had a rattle, not really noisy but someone complained we were making to much noise, very embarrassing to be asked to keep the noise down especially as another table of 6 adults were making much more noise laughing. Food not brilliant turkey dinner boring! After we spoke to the manager he deducted the drinks from our bill and gave us a voucher for £50, not sure wether we would use it or not! Another birthday spoilt by a very child unfriendly restaurant which I was looking forward to sharing with my family who came from Yorkshire.

We were a party of 12 people which included 3 children, on arrival we decided to have the festive menu. We asked if they did a smaller portion for the children, they said they did. What they didn’t tell us was this was £18 per head bearing in mind one of the children was only 4? The bill was extortionate for what we had and the service we received. We queried the amount and the bill was amended. We got half way home and realised the bill was still not right, we went straight back and dealt with Abbie who sorted everything out for us and apologised for us not being told the price of the childrens’ food. We would definitely not return , slow service very average food and really expensive.

We have driven past here quite a few times but never been in so we decided to give it a try. It was a Tuesday night but there was quite a few people in.I had the prawns and chorizo to start with and my partner had the soup, both dishes were nice. I then had the duck and my partner had the sea bass. The sea bass portion was quite stingy for the price that they charge. The duck dish was nice, the duck was slightly overdone but that’s just my personal preference. I then had the cheesecake but I had to send it back, it was tasteless and really bland. We both had a nice evening but wouldn’t come again, the food was tasty enough but just okay and doesn’t warrant the prices that they charge.

Dined here on 20/11 for family birthday. Seated on time then waited over 30 minutes for starters to arrive. Busy, and clearly not enough staff to service diners. King prawn and chorizo starter was heavy on the latter and light on the former. Tasty though. Mains were disappointing, sea bass very well cooked but portion small and for £18.50 very poor value. Other meals of chicken kiev and duck were nothing special. As with most restaurants drinks aren't cheap but the main issue was the slow service which on presentation of the bill was compounded by a service charge of 10% (in our case £17.50) being added. I had this removed. Poor service not down to serving staff but simply not enough of them to expect people to pay the prices they charge for what is, after all, a bistro.

On arrival the dining room was exceptionally chilly so much so that I and another diner kept our coats on. The waitress explained that the cleaner had turned up the air conditioning. However it was soon rectified. We had delicious starters. My husband had the soup and I had prawns and chorizo ( NB not choritzo). For mains we both had cheese and onion pie which was fine. Sadly the accompanying chips tasted very strange.i foun d them unpleasant and left them. The waitress explained that they are cooked in goose fat. Not sure if we will go back soon. Shame really.

Visited The Bird for an early evening meal. We'd been here before for drinks and had been a customer at Nutters.Firstly I think it's a shame there aren't any original features remaining of the old inn, there are no cosy areas, there are large windows with a view of the car park! The staff were welcoming and we were seated straight away. When we ordered drinks we were told the wine we preferred wasn't in stock. We were given a menu and the specials were printed on a separate piece of paper; this comprised of 2 starters and 1 main, however we were told that there was only one portion of the main remaining (it was only 5.45pm at this point).I ordered a prawn starter, which was ok and the last main on the specials, which was belly of pork and my husband ordered sea bass. The pork was nice but there wasn't enough jus so the meal became a lump of meat as I went on. My husband informed me that the sea bass was excellent but it comprised of just 1 fillet, so half a sea bass is a more accurate description. We had orange trifle and a Manchester tart for dessert, the trifle was bitter and the tart was not set so had a sloppy consistency. After the meal we tried to order coffees with liquors but was informed the coffee machine was broken, so didn't bother and ended our evening early. We wouldn't return.

My 86 year old mum hadn’t been anywhere since lockdown and so it took some persuasion to get her out of the house and up to the Bird at Byrtle. All the way there she kept saying she mightn’t be able to eat anything and she was worried that I would be wasting my money. Three courses later and a giddy, more than satisfied lady emerged, making plans of when we could return! The service was friendly, the decor welcoming and the ambiance lovely. The food though, was sensational! Beautiful presentation, piping hot and so delicious. From not wanting to eat anything, my mum wolfed down the tastiest prawns and chorizo starter ( the prawns were so perfectly cooked, they almost melted in your mouth), lamb shank ( which she very nearly finished) and the most delicately flavoured trifle that was also light as a feather. I had the duck which was again perfectly cooked and so tasty. My only disappointment was that I hadn’t found this gem before!

The Bird has been our go to restaurant for special occasions for a few years ,so we were really looking forward to returning.Like many have said ,yes a lot of the staff seem new but that’s hardly surprising with the recent events. We found all the staff attentive and hard working. Three out of the four diners really enjoyed their meal. For me, the lack of vegetarian options really lets the restaurant down. There was one vegetarian option for a starter and two options for main meal. The soup had bacon in so that also wasn’t a choice. It’s sad that even in today’s times, vegetarian’s are treated as an afterthought!I had the cheese and onion pie that I have had many times before however this time it was not as enjoyable as the beans that came with it were spicy.Going to leave it a while now until we try it again to see if they can get the standards back up to where they were.

Some of the staff have a real attitude problem. Service was shocking, nothing was cleared after finishing. We started putting glasses on a nearby side table to make room but was told very rudely by a member of staff to not do it and if we left them on the table they would get cleared, they were never cleared the whole meal. Manager also has an attitude problem so its no wonder the staff have. Food wasn’t great either. My last time at the bird after years of visiting

Shown to our table and given a Sunday Lunch menu, there was no prices on it, we asked the waiter, was it a set price? He didn’t know and said he would find out. £25 for 2 courses, £28 for 3. Starters were ok, main course roast beef very rare, roast potatoes hard, very poor. No one came to our table to enquire either how the food was or if we needed more drinks, had to go to the bar to order again. Overall overpriced drinks and food, and very poor service. The starters were nice but the main courses disappointing. I had cod, overall the meal was bland, the noodles were soggy, I left most of my meal and was not asked at any point during the meal if the food was ok, even when my plate was taken with so much food left. My partner had T-bone steak which was nice enough but nothing to write home about. The service was really poor, had to ask 3 times for some water. When paying, we were asked for the first and only time if everything was ok, and I said quite disappointing and briefly explained why. The response from the waitress was simply to say she’d pass my comments to the chef. Not even ‘sorry you didn’t enjoy your meal’. It was a pricy lunch that we had been looking forward to, but it was definitely not worth the money. I’ve been to eat here once before and it was lovely, either we were unlucky today or it’s not as good as it used to be.

Our first visit to the Bird last night was for my husband’s birthday. We were shown to our table and offered food and drinks menus, orders were taken promptly, no problems so far. We shared a starter of treacle and soya salmon, which was delicious. My husband ordered the 16 oz T-Bone steak, I ordered the sirloin which was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and yummy! The T-Bone on the other hand was a different story. It was half the thickness of my sirloin, my husband was very disappointed. It was cooked exactly as he had requested and he did enjoy it BUT it was the scrawniest T-Bone ever. The waitresses were really good and when asked if everything was good with our meal we said we were happy with it all except the T-Bone which was unacceptably thin. She said she’d pass on our remarks to the chef. Mr Nutter, perhaps my expectations were far too high but having eaten at Nutters on several occasions I thought the standards would be equalled at The Bird. Sadly not. Last but not least, as we waited at the the front for the taxi we noticed a dead hanging basket. Not a pretty sight.

We have been to a Nutters a few times and have been keen to try the Bird for a while. Had the Sunday Lunch today - let’s start with a positive, the food was great , good quality, great flavours and beautifully presented. The service however was quite frankly diabolical. The rating of 2 would’ve been 0 if I was rating service alone. We were showed to our table immediately, menus given and then nothing for at least 15 mins. Hubby prompted a waiter who took a drinks order and sent someone else to take the food order. Another small but acceptable wait. Starter and main courses arrived in a good time frame, but no proactivity at all, no enquiries about drinks, wine or whether the food / everything was ok. We then sat for 35 mins at least waiting for our plates to be cleared and for someone to ask us about deserts or further drinks. I ended up going to the till point on route to the ladies to ask if our plates could be cleared and dessert menu offered. There were 3 staff standing idle at this point - the lady with the black shirt on the till looked across to one of the waitresses (an older lady.) and literally rolled her eyes! No apology, no grace, no basic manners. Whilst I was at the ladies a waitress arrived to clear our plates and literally slapped menus on the table with my husband without uttering a single word! I ordered a dessert which was great, plate was cleared quickly and we asked for the bill. Another wait - had to prompt it again! We eat out frequently in a wide range of restaurants locally, Manchester, London etc and this is singularly the worse customer service I have ever received. For the first time I can remember we did not tip and left the restaurant without so much as a basic acknowledgement ! The restaurant was vibrant but not overly stretched as there seemed to be more than enough staff who quite frankly were wandering around with their eyes shut or stood together chatting. Andrew Nutter - this is being done in your name and is taking away significantly from your wonderful food. We would’ve spent more, enjoyed it more and would’ve returned - not a chance after today though!

Like "Extremely Disappointed" been several times (always for lunch, never for an evening meal) & chose the Moroccan lamb. Same; no spice, incredibly bland, no almonds & no sauce. OK the food not being up to scratch can happen but what was worse was the reaction thereafter. When collecting the plates the waitress (who was excellent) asked how things were with the food. Three out of four said they were happy but I mentioned that whilst I had eaten the food so wasn't complaining, mine was a little bland, no sauce to speak of & no almonds. The waitress said she would feed that back to the kitchen, which was her call not mine. Next thing a person I assume to be the manageress appeared at the table, in front of the rest of the diners, to ask about the food but before anyone could say a word she dived in with what appeared to be a set script to cover their backs of "when the waitress asked if the food was fine you didn't query it!"...it came across as "so because you did that don't think you will be getting a refund!". No apology at all just a "tick box" exercise. We all felt a little embarrassed, as if we were trying to scam a free £17 meal...really? We didn't have time or chance to point out that the waitress asked how the food was literally 2 minutes after it was dropped off so not much time to know what you are getting. I did however point out that we weren't complaining; the waitress asked a question & was given an answer. Extremely poor show both the food & the Customer service and will not be going back!

Pros and Cons• Very good waiting staff• Reasonably priced wines and drinks• Nice atmosphere in restaurant • Very poor gluten-free options• Very poor food• Poor value for money• Scruff table with white showing through on black tableOn arrival there was one person already waiting for a table, they were taken through to the table and we waited... The young woman who had taken the previous person through some minutes before seemed surprised we were there. I think she'd forgotten she'd already seen us. There were four of us for dinner but I’ll only comment on the dishes myself and my wife had as the other couple did not share their opinion. Once at the table things improved, we were quickly attended to for drinks and menus. When the menus arrived I asked about gluten-free options as I'm coeliac, we had called the day before to check they offered option and they confirmed they did. When I went through the options they we basically the obvious dished that would not normal contain gluten. Each of the starters had an accompaniment of artisan bread or focaccia, I asked what they offered as the gluten-free option and they said 'sliced bread'. If you need to eat gluten-free don't expect any special effort being put in. As a starter I chose Thai style mussels and my wife chose Goats Cheese 'Bon-Bons. The mussels arrived after about 30 minutes and looked OK, they were a bit small and there weren't many of them, they came with the afore mentioned sliced bread. The Thai broth was very disappointment, it tasted of coconut a little but none of the other fragrance you expect from Thai cooking, it was pretty poor. My wife was delivered a goats cheese bon-bon which it turned out was a cold dish but had golden bread crumbs on the outside, it was unclear if it had ever been cooked though. The accompaniment to this was some sot of salad with asparagus. My wife definitely enjoy this and left most of the dish. We both had the same main course which was grilled chicken with lemon and garlic, sweet potato wedges and side salad. The first taste of the chicken was good, I found it to be tasty but the more I tasted the tougher the chicken became until I gave up, the wedges were soggy mash and the side salad in its tiny bowl was inaccessible to each and a poor addition to the dish. My wife’s version of the dish was similar except the chicken was even tougher. As the others of our party decided to have a dessert my wife ordered a dessert as she was still hungry, she ordered the chocolate sponged but asked for the ‘pink custard’ to be changed out for ice cream. The sponge was dense and the ice cream was mediocre, another fail. All in all the experience was bad, the staff were very helpful though and did a really good job with service. The atmosphere in the restaurant was quite lively but not too loud, that was certainly an upside of the evening. In summary, it was very disappointing, we will not be visiting this or other Nutter establishments based on this experience. It seemed to us that they have run out of ideas, for some reason one of the dishes as a starter was Korean Boa buns, I really don’t understand their place on the menu.

A spin off from Andrew Nutter’s main business Nutters. A gastro pub with attractive interior and pleasant effective staff. Attention to detail slightly lacking - crisps boxes under stairs, plain notices on walls, toilet caretaking card out of date. Food is reasonable price and menu is sensible. I’ve been 3 times now though and find the food bland which is surprising as the food at Nutters is sensational.

We wanted to have a special treat at home during lockdown (as we can't go out) and ordered from one of our all time favourite restaurants in Bury. The Bird at Birtle was fantastic when we sat in a few years before so we thought that it will be really good at home. We've been unsure about getting a 'at-home' style meal as we weren't sure how well it would travel and what the overall quality would be like. I can tell you, it did travel well and it actually tasted just like we had it served being sat down. The Sea Bass we had for Main was delicious, really crispy skin and buttery mash. I must say, it was very well organised and I'm just rather pleased we went. What a nice treat and I cannot wait for things to be back open inside so we can come back and dine in style!

Following a lunch last month which really impressed us, we visited this time for a Sunday lunch. The menu is small, & only one roast option when we visited so be warned if you’re expecting several different meat options on a Sunday. We had the haddock rarebit & confit duck for starters, really delicious & beautifully presented. Then the steak & ale pie & roast beef. The pie was packed with tender beef & so tasty, fabulous chunky chips & I struggled to finish it all. My husband’s roast beef was perfectly cooked, not a massive portion but that really wouldn’t have been necessary, it was plenty. Cheese to finish which was also just right in terms of serving size. Service was really efficient (but not too quick!), we were regularly asked if everything was ok by really friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our second visit, beautiful well cooked & presented food with great service. Small change I’d suggest, the pie & chips served on a board looks great but makes it awkward to eat! But a small thing, we loved it & will be back soon.

The Covid precautions were good, staff friendly enough without being happy clappy.Set menu at £25 for 2 courses.Lamb Henry was first class and the chicken supreme was good.Starters of goats cheese, and crab cakes were both excellent, the chorizo salad with the goats cheese particularly noteworthy.Only gripe was the lack of a fish dish,if you exclude Goan shrimp curry which we did !It’s a good restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and above average food. It’s certainly not a pub !

Poor showFrom the initial cold welcome to the tasteless offerings, we actually left feeling quite robbed from the Bird at Birtle. I know we’re in a pandemic but the clinical instructions we received on entry ( without a please , thank you or smile) were off putting from the offset. Starters were adequate but basic and the extra condiment ordered forgotten, even though they were hardly stretched there seemed to be little excitement to be back at work after all this time off. Sunday lunch itself was bland to say the least. Very expensive at £25 for what and where it is also. 2 slithers of wafer thin roast beef with two small roast potatoes. Watered down cauliflower cheese and gravy. Extra gravy ordered also forgotten. We asked an side of extra potatoes due to the shortage at an extra cost of £4 Take your hard earned money elsewhere

Took advantage of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme with my wife and daughter. We had enjoyed the Bird at Birtle once before to celebrate an anniversary and always said we’d return. Another excellent dining experience - the main reason for visiting is the food and it was up to the usual superb standard. The staff were professional, friendly and attentive without being over bearing. At the end of the evening we had no complaints and agreed the experience had been most enjoyable - one we aim to repeat very soon. I agree the menu may not be as extensive as it used to be but there is still enough choice to keep everyone happy. Stay safe y’all

We came here for a mid-week lunch for the first time since lockdown. The venue remains a nice place to eat and the staff were friendly. We were disappointed to see such a heavily reduced menu compared to what used to be on offer - I appreciate that COVID may have changed working practices, but this has been the first of many restaurant visits where it felt so noticeable. The menu seemed considerably less varied and interesting than it once was. The food was absolutely fine, but nothing that would make me rush back.

Had a lovely meal at the Bird and on this I would return, however when we came to pay they would not allow us to use our gift vouchers, as we had the Government discount and couldn’t use them both together!! My understanding is that the the Help out to Eat is refunded in full by the Government which means the restaurant doesn’t lose any money and the gift voucher, the restaurant has had the cash since the voucher was purchased in December. I totally couldn’t understand why we couldn’t use them together and It seems they have made their own rules up!!! Not very good publicity for the restaurant in these difficult times.

First night out in 5 months really looking forward to it but left feeling somewhat disappointed. The venue is lovely particularly if you have a view, staff were very nice, was very safe and organised. Part of the meal was forgotten came too late to enjoy. Steak appeared small and was mediocre sauce very runny. Food was hot which I like but fish cake starter was not enjoyed very much. Pricey for pub food even with 'eat out to help out you can get better meals. Probably won't be going again in a while.

We’re new to the area & this was on our list of places to try, so we visited on a Monday lunch. On arrival, you scan the QR code to give your details for track & trace (they had pencil& paper if this isn’t possible). Seated upstairs where the tables are all a good distance from each other & a one way system taped to the floor. All staff are in masks as well. We ordered a mushroom special to start, & the prawns & chorizo, both really delicious. Then for mains the chicken Kiev (wow!) & fish & chips. They’re taking part in the eat out scheme so value was incredible. Service was really good throughout, friendly & efficient. It did get very warm at one point but was great with the air con on. Our fave local place that we’ve tried so far, can’t wait to come back!

Visited this restauraunt Sunday 9th for Sunday lunch, myself, my partner and sister. Decor was amazing and I was really looking forward too my meal. Was seated downstairs and the bi fold doors were open, sun shining. Really amazing spot to sit. We had a starter each - x2 leak and potato soup which had a very watery consistency and no taste. Fresh bread that accompanied was lovely. The other starter was mushrooms, this was also to what I would consider an OK standard but nothing special. We ate a very minimal amount and wasn’t asked if everything was ok, mains arrive - x2 beef Sunday lunch and x1 Sunday lunch with no meat as they didn’t offer an alternative. Beef was extremely over seasoned so had a very strong distinctive taste, roast potatoes were under cooked and seemed to be frozen, Yorkshire puddings were doughy. The WORST Sunday lunch I have ever tasted. Again all 3 of us ate minimal, staff came over asked us this time how the food was to which I replied awful, not very nice at all. No response he just collected the plates and brought the bill over. Extremely disappointed with the food and level of customer service. Wouldn’t not recommend to visit.

Ok so first things first, I booked to eat here for a special occasion. We both got all dressed up and were incredibly excited for our first fancy date night as an engaged couple, and we had requested a window seat. We love it in the window and having not been for such a long time, we were super excited - the sun was still out for us too! I was advised on booking that it was first come first serve for the window, which is fine as we booked for the first evening sitting at 6pm. When we arrived, there were three tables empty in the window and one other couple already seated there. We were shown to a corner table and when I asked, the girl said they were all already reserved and seated more than two. Now I appreciate that, however 1 I was told you can’t ‘reserve’ a window spot and 2, the table we were seated in was big enough to fit any of the parties as the table we sat at would have seated six as per the other tables. It instantly made me a bit miserable. Food was exceptional though - I had the cod chowder and my fiancé had the chicken Kiev, along with a couple of starters too which again, were fab. I was feeling bitter for the entire evening though as we both felt it really did dampen the night not having the view we asked for and clearly were not special enough to have. Not one person sat at any of the tables until 5 minutes before we let the restaurant either, and both parties were tables of three. We left at 7.05 and they both arrived at 7. If I was told ‘there’s someone we know coming at 7 and we’ve told them they could sit there’, that would have been fine. We don’t hang around! All I wanted was the window seat. I just think the policy needs to be one or the other, not preferential treatment for ‘special guests’. I was still a paying customer. I would highly recommend for the food and the view, but do not expect to be sat in a window seat unless you are a regular I would say. I can’t fault a single thing from the food perspective, and would have had a dessert too but I was so annoyed, I just wanted to leave!

I have just read this on Facebook.Got to say I’m disgusted with The Bird at Birtle. I had a table booked for Saturday evening. But had to cancel due to the person I was dining with having compromised immunity. I cancelled around 12pm so they had 8 hours to re-book the table. They have charged me £20! I’ve emailed them, sent a Facebook message and tweeted them, all with no response. In these times of uncertainty you’d think they would make an allowance to ‘company policy.’ I cannot put this on their wall so feel free to share.

Turned up for an afternoon meal I've been a couple of times before, no spare spaces so I had to park in front of the window at the rear, suited me better anyway as I like to keep an eye on it as it's a sports car, I've parked in this spot before.Upon walking in the barmaid shouts for everyone to hear in the restaurant "you need to move your car", I said sorry id prefer to leave it there if you dont mind to keep an eye on it, otherwise I will have to go if I cant leave it there as there are no other spaces", "No move it, sorry.." was the reply with a shoulder shrug.A "sorry I hope you don't mind, but parking there isn't allowed by the management, would you mind moving your car to a spot when one comes available? I hate to ask"I jumped in the car and went around the corner to the pavillion restaurant which was lovely.A patron that now won't return, sorry Andrew.

Included in our Christmas card from son Michael and partner Barbara was an invitation to a 'Slap up Meal' at The Bird. As we have a busy January with family birthdays, including my 75th, we agreed to dine on Feb. 1st and what a great night we had. We booked for 6.30pm and arrived early so we could have a drink in the bar area before our waitress told us our table was ready. We quickly ordered drinks and starters including pan roast Seabass, Mussels and Chicken liver Patfait all well presented and very tasty. With a second bottle of wine we ordered mains of pan seared Duck Breast, roast Cod Fillet and Steak 'The Bird' Ale pudding all cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed of visit with first class service from the very professional staff. Certainly this is a perfect venue for special celebrations.

Called on spec, had to accept table alone behind bar next to a table for storing staffbelongings. Far enough and then when someone left early we got a good seat in the back window. Firstly table wasnt cleaned so we used tissues. No choice but 2 or 3 course sunday lunch (£25 or £30) very pricey but I thought it must be good!Starter came immediately so obviously prepared but it was good but small. Both had beef dinners which came very quick (never askedhow we liked it), nothing on table , cutlery , salt, not asked for sauce preference. So I had to go and get them, and ask for horseraddish , salt etc. Meal was going cold by now, and the HR eventually arrived but a minute portion. Ok thats all little titbits the main thing was the content, the beef was disgusting , red raw , but full of stringy bits, and only 2 pretty small pieces. it said "ALL THE TRIMMINGS", that was 2 small roast , no mash , veg was pretty much green beans and peas. We both pretty much left half the beef all chewed up after at least trying to eat it , my teeth aching!!!The waitress eventually cleared the plates and mumbled the usual "was it ok?", we said well as you can see we havent eaten the beef, she looked baffled and clueless , we pointed at the stringy beef we left. She simply mumbled she would tell the chef.!!! Nothing more said.We asked for the bill a few times, and when it came £90, they had charged for 3 £25 lunches , FFS dont they check before they bring it.They corrected it and we paid and left(oh and we noticed they missed a wine so haha on them), but £25 for a prawn cocktail and disgusting beef dinner , wont be going back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were a party of 7 celebrating a special birthday on Boxing Day, because of this we didn’t have a choice of menu and I was worried we would be disappointed. But we were not as everything we had was cooked perfectly. It was a 3 course meal for £28 and we all agreed it was good value. The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful, they were all very young but very pleasant. The only thing I was not happy with and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, was to be given only 10 minutes notice that the kitchen was closing and if we didn’t order then it would be too late. I just didn’t understand why we weren’t told earlier as we were in the restaurant an hour before our reservation. But apart from that I can definitely recommend.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend so decided to give it a try after her recommendations. When we arrived, we were welcomed by rude staff who made us feel like they were looking down their noses at us, the manager Olivia, didn't seem to know what she was doing half the time and all of the staff seemed underaged and inexperienced. The lighting is cold and the food wasn't up to my expectations. Cold and not much choice and they didn't seem to care when we complained. Dirty toilets too, not the sign of a good restaurant. Overall , not an enjoyable experience and won't be going back. Overpriced and unsatisfied.

Having read the last few reviews on Trip Advisor, I was a little concerned, having agreed to meet family here for lunch.Thankfully, overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. My starter of Black Pudding bon bons was delicious. I unusually decided to opt for a vegetarian main course- Mushroom soufflé, which again, was delicious, although very filling and a little stodgy. The vanilla creme brulee was very pleasant. The gentleman who served us was very professional and friendly. It's hard to work out why I'm not happy enough to give this place 5/5. A few very minor criticisms: The tables downstairs were very close together. I was also quite near the rear entrance, so it was quite cold at times. The restaurant's phone kept going off several times. Car parking seems very limited. There were only two members of waiting staff I encountered during the meal, one male and one female. The gentleman was on his own the majority of the time, the lady only appeared to serve the desserts. So there were long gaps in waiting to order more drinks during the meal. My Dad ordered a large bottle of fizzy water at the time we ordered our starters and mains, but he had to remind the Waiter about it later on.

Popped in for a quick lunch. Seabass starter was very well cooked, too much sauce on potatoes, couldn't taste the aioli. Lamb shoulder was nice but starter of the day was certainly the pork belly. Mains we had the chicken and cod. Both delicious. Was let down by dirty cutlery, lack of check backs and a general lack of management. The girls were efficient but it did lack something. Chairs backing onto mine were too close so waiting staff couldn't get through and the chap sitting behind me bumped into me everytime he moved. Have to say for me the biggest disappointment was the state of the foyer, carpet needed a very good hoover, store room door open and stock pilled up, confetti all over, empty bottle of fizz propped up against the wall. a manager walkabout session needed desperately

I had a meal at the Bird with my wife last night about 8.45 pm. We were sat down stairs which although we would have preferred to be in the main restaurant was no problem. However there was a party of six next to us who were drunk and shouting over one another. My wife asked if we could move but unfortunately this was not immediately possible. She was also told the group had been there since midday drinking. I asked if they could have a word with them but was told they hav'nt done anything wrong, even though they were very loud and clearly intoxicated. We were then moved into the back of the bar where a table was set for us. There was no other tables made up or other diners. We were next to a table full of documents and coats !. When we were served our first course I asked a manager if the group had been asked to lower the voices as clearly even though we were in another room we could still here them shouting. She acknowledged they had been drinking all day and were very loud but still refused to intervene. A table became available upstairs and we had our main course there, which was fine. There was a lot of parties and laughing upstairs which again is fine. However I felt upset by the lack of managerial support. I am a regular at this restaurant and am always singing its praises.Indeed when in conversaton with friends if any of them complain about the Bird, I always defend the restaurant.I felt humiliated last night and let down. I expect their to be a party atmosphere at Christmas but this was ridiculous. I am sure none of my friends who frequent the Bird would have tollerated this service. Extremely disappointed with our whole experience here & if you want an early Christmas lunch and Christmas atmosphere don’t go here , the menu for the Christmas lunch is 2 course for £25 or three for £28 and there is the normal menu alongside it , having decided I wanted the turkey with all the trimmings ( no sprouts or mash ) I liked the look of the trio of festive pudding so opted for the two course lunch for £25 but also to pay full price for the mussels on the normal menu , I was told numerous times I couldn’t do this , in the end I said ok my wife will have two starters and main & sweet of normal menu & I’ll have the two course off the Christmas menu again I was told I couldn’t do this , I clearly said I’ll pay 25 for the two course Christmas and full £7.50 for the mussels after getting the manager over he said it was a misunderstanding & could now do it !! I admit this did put a downer on our lunch & when the mussels arrived I wish I hadn’t bothered I had seven small mussels but must say the sauce was delicious, like I said earlier the main was disappointing no sprouts or mashed potatoes no extra gravy most of the turkey was dark meat which I do enjoy but it’s not to everybody’s taste , a trio of Christmas sweets & on it no Christmas pudding just baked Alaska ( delicious) a piece of sponge cake & a very watery tasteless chocolate mousse no sign of a coffee , mince pie or god forbid a Christmas cracker!! Just to make the starter fiasco even more confusing on ordering her sweet off the main menu my wife was told she could order the Christmas trio pudding off the Christmas menu for £8.50 thankfully she didn’t order this instead opted for apple crumble which she did enjoy , would I recommend this place ?? Absolutely not so bad we are going to take another day off work next week and go for a proper Christmas dinner off a proper Christmas menu and no doubt less than half the price !!

Four of us booked for 3.30 Sunday Lunch. On arrival nobody to greet us so wandered over to the bar to advise we were booked in. Told to take a seat by the bar as table not ready. Encouraged to buy drinks, but only one girl serving & mixing cocktails for the next 10 minutes before she could serve us. At almost 4pm stopped a waitress & asked if table ready yet. Shown upstairs to a packed restaurant area with tables very close together, noise level made it difficult to talk. Staff all very young, appear disengaged with the customers, no eye contact. Bottle of wine brought to table, waitress opening wine asking if we want to taste first, gazing into thin air - we pointed out that there were no glasses on the table. All the food was excellent, however I think the chefs are let down by service. My risotto starter was lukewarm. The sponge pudding with custard was cold. We told the waitress but she said it would affect the sponge to reheat it. Waiting on tables is more than just bringing plates of food from kitchen & plonking it down in front of someone. Some mature staff required, with experience to guide the youngsters - its not all there fault, blind the leading the blind. The chefs must be really frustrated. I’ve tried it once but won’t be going back.

When being told the specials were, we were disappointed to hear that one of the specials was steak and chips? Not really my idea of a special to be honest, due to the fact there were two other cuts of steak on the menu. There was a wait for each course to come but think with size of our group 10+ it was more to do with each meal being cooked fresh than bad service, waitress made sure everyone had what they ordered and kept the drinks flowing and where very attentive, even making a dish for one of group that wasn’t on menu, all said was very good and will be returning soon

We were very disappointed with the menu choice, very basic and not much choice. My friend and I ordered duck which came with veg (small portion) potatoes ( they only had chips) were £4 extra which is alot when you are paying £19 for the duck and veg. The duck was very tough couldn't cut it and the chips were hard and undercooked and were cut like bricks. We asked the waitress if we could replace it with something else which was no problem. We chose the fish and chips which was nice but nothing special. The guys had steak pudding. We all gad 1 drink each ant the bill was over £70. We could have gone to the chippy for tea then to the pub and still had change.

It’s not the first time I’ve been here, but it was many years ago. The service was very good and quite quick. I didn’t take a starter as I normally can’t eat that much. I had the duck for the main and chocolate sponge for the dessert. Everything was tasty especially the duck. It was however really quite small. I’m not a big eater, but this was really on the small side. My dessert was also really small and I left after 2 courses feeling I could easily of eaten more. This is highly unusual for me. A lot of men are double my size and this would of barely touched the sides for them. Maybe take the fish and chips if you’re looking for a big hearty meal, because the duck wouldn’t do! The chocolate pudding was supposed to come with chocolate sauce, which was about a teaspoon full and I got the smallest ball ever of vanilla ice cream!

The staff are all very young and friendly enough, but there is blatantly nobody running the show and the young women have received little to no training. On arriving we asked if there was anywhere to leave our coats and told no and to put them on our chairs. We were rushed to make orders but only told about specials as she took our order. Empty glasses and used cutlery sat on our table until after we had paid the £110 bill (3 people... 1 driver). The food was edible but bland and unexciting and the resteraunt looks tired and somewhat shabby. Nothing dreadful, but nothing to rave about.

I am leaving this review after already emailing feedback directly to The Bird. Their lack of response speaks volumes about their level of customer care. When we booked the table we were informed that the bar was not available due to a private function. This was fine, so arranged to visit another pub prior to arriving so we could have pre-dinner drinks. What was not explained was the impact the function would have on our evening. On arrival we had to walk straight through the middle of a very noisy wedding reception, live act playing, across the dance floor to access the stairs. This was a route that had to be repeated every time you wanted the toilets and to leave at the end of the night. This was extremely awkward and not something I would expect to have to do.Once shown to our table we stood up to leave due to the noise of the live act filtering through the floor. The live act, combined with the music from the restaurant and vibrating floor made it impossible to hear ourselves think let alone have a conversation.Another table was prepared on the opposite side of the restaurant where we continued our evening, with slightly less noise but with the live act still clearly audible. With regards to the service, we felt hurried throughout the meal with 2 different waitresses asking if we were enjoying the food, prior to us even tasting it. Dessert menus were provided and 30 seconds later we were being asked for our dessert order. The Irish coffee that was served had to be sent back as it quite literally tasted like dish water. We both left The Bird very disappointed, agreeing that would be our last visit. The layout of the venue is not suitable for both private events and public dining simultaneously. Also, although friendly and polite the young service team really need direction from someone with more Customer service experience to teach and develop them, and learn how to build a rapport with the customers.

It's the third time we've been to the Bird and in general we've enjoyed each visit. The renovation to an old pub is a credit to the Nutter family. The food is always excellent and tasty although this time probably the least underwhelming course we have had was the duck main.I've got to say I do agree with some of the other comments that the service feels rushed at times and no allowance is made for larger tables naturally needing more time. The restaurant service is very good although the downstairs bar isn't to the same standard empty tables not been wiped, drinks served in wrong glasses not the same attention to detail as the kitchen and restaurant staff!I would certainly recommend as the overall experience is very enjoyable already looking forward to our next visit.

When we booked we were told that they would need the table back by 8.30 which is understood. However whilst there we were reminded constantly and eventually felt completely pushed out. I spoke to the manager and told him we had waited 50 minutes between starters and main course. He said that we hadn't and he had checked with the kitchen. So I am a liar apparently. He wasn't interested and we left without having a desert or time to think. Last time we came, we had a superb Sunday Lunch and I scored a 5. This time the food was average and the management attitude shocking. Only consolation was a lovely lady who served us and seemed embarrassed by the whole thing. I don't care who the manager checked with, we know how long we waited between courses. Will not be back!!

We had Sunday Lunch at The Bird on 15th September 2019, absolutely lovely. M husband had sea bass for his starter, and he said that it was very tasty, I had pate with rhubarb chutney, it was delicious. We both had the roast beef for our main course, everything on the plate was red hot, we have been to many restaurants and the food when served in just warm, so when it's really hot it makes a big difference. The beef was so tender and all vegetables and the roasted potatoes was so good. The waitress that served us was very pleasant as was the waiter that served our drinks, would we go back again, the answer is yes in a heartbeat.

Exceptionally poor coffee machines not working thus long queues for drinks and toast etc. Poor expiation of food choices food cold on arrival slow refilling of the continental section . Staff bordering on the rude and certainly unwilling to respond to complaints. Will never return to this location which is a pity as the staff in the adjoining premier inn are excellent. Understand both are owned by Whitbread plc. I suggest they look at staff training at table table.

My wife and I visit the Honeypot cafe almost every week and were sitting next to the man that offended the previous two ladies. We were both taken aback by his rude manners which were completely out of order. However the staff were quite unaware of this and were also shocked when we told them what had occurred. We will be continuing to enjoy our regular visits to the lovely Honeypot where they serve excellent Coffee and Mombai Raliway Chai Tea It is also our grandchildren’s favourite cafe and a treat every available holiday to go and have a panini and an iced tea in the Honeypot.
