The Birchgrove in Cardiff

I have been a regular (everyday) patron of the Birchgrove and the management has improved considerably since Tom has been in charge. The beers are first class because the lines are regularly cleaned and the general ambiance has improved not only because of the hands-on aspects of the manager but this has also enthused the staff such as Stephanie and also Elysia who brightens up our day with her friendly character and efficiency. The Birchgrove has all the sporting event you could wish for and as I visit the bar every day I have choice of different events on any one of the four TVs and if there are two different matches being broadcast at the same time, both are displayed on one or more of the TVs - we are spoiled.

Fantastic Sunday Lunch at the Birchgrove today. The veg is fresh and roasted to perfection. Yorkshire puddings huge and taste fresh! I had the veggie sausages with mine and they even had veggie gravy - delightful

Had a meal with friends on the weekend, the staff were so helpful and quick to serve, usual pub food was plentiful and very tasty, live music in the evening, a little something for all, great vibes and great day/evening had by all 😁

Came with friends for lunch and drinks, Wow, stunning food, reasonably priced drinks, staff where friendly and professional, they couldn't do enough for us,the new Landlord was very welcoming too, we will be back very soon 😀

Had a lovely meal kids had burger i had chicken had a game of bingo Steph was amazing so was all staff with my granddaughter highly recommend xx

Friendly staff lovely food and atmosphere

It’s my “local” so I may be biased but all the staff are always attentive and polite, the food is good (although writing that it’s about time they changed the menu for the sake of variety), and it’s warm and inviting.

I used the fabulous Steph and her team to arrange a Baby Shower for my daughter. Steph was fantastic from start to finish. She communicated with me throughout and made sure that everything was just perfect on the day. She had loads of great ideas and dealt with everything in a very friendly and professional way. The day was everything we had wished for and more. The venue looked beautiful and the buffet was amazing. Thanks Steph we will definitely be using you again in the future and I will be recommending you to all my family and friends. ❤️

We visited on Boxing Day for the 2 course festive menu. Service was exceptional and the quality of the food was excellent, perfect portion sizes too. If you are willing to have us, we will be Boxing Day regulars from hereon!

This is my local. Refurbished withing the last 2 years and im a huge fan. The staff and patrons are very friendly and if you're travelling through its a great spot for a quick drink and a bite to eat.b

i booked for a festive menu for myself and my "grumpy old gits" christmas party, we meet at the birchgrove every 6 weeks or so, on my last visit i noticed the festive menu and thought it would be good idea to book, and it was, our table was all ready, crackers, christmas table cloth, table decoration, (bit naff penguin, but a talking point for a bunch of baar humbugs) food was great, but above all, and was the icing (on the christmas cake) was the service, there are two ladies it seems to me that run the kitchen, i think her name is Jade, she is a credit to your establishment, nothing is too much trouble, we always eat and its always fab, but last night was brilliant, we really enjoyed, thankyou to you all but especially to jade and the other lady in the kitchen, see you in new year, keep up the good work, you are apprieciated for your hard work always, and probably dont get much recognition, well done, bunch of old gits. (thats us,not you)

We all work for a charity and went here for our Christmas meal well the service was great they looked after us and the food was outstanding a word I don't use lightly so give them a go MERRY CHRISTMAS 2023

Pretty good food, fair drinks selection and very pleasant staff on duty. Our problem was that we were freezing throughout. Only a few small portable heaters in the large lounge as I assume the central heating was broken down (again) Please get this sorted out asap as we'd like to return, but not have to wear coats and scarfs throughout!

Went in on Friday and it was like an icebox. Nothing against you or your staff, also as, it is a brains pub, (no rains bitter).

Nice pint, friendly staff in a big old building with no central heating at the moment....... 5 degrees outside even colder inside.!!!

I messaged the Birchgrove to see if they could accommodate our annual Baseball presentation. Their response was very quick and they agreed to give us the stage area at the back of the lounge. The staff (especially Molly) were really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great!. The band playing were fab and got everyone up dancing. A really good night was had by all and we will definitely be back again!! 😃

Went to a baby shower, great area for small party. Food was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. We went on a Sunday, very busy the lunches looked really good. Will be going back for food. The only downside is parking, street parking was quite an issue to find a space.

Went to the pub Thursday for a few drinks and some food. Upon arrival the pub was quiet, four customers waiting in the lounge to be served and a few at the bar. Only one member of staff serving and had to cover both the lounge and the bar. He was serving in the bar at the time, not his fault but had to wait over ten minutes to be served two drinks in a quiet pub. Ordered food which was tasty and well cooked. Overall the whole experience is not as good as previous visits, but perhaps the place was just having an off day.

Food was nice, but the beer (Brains Bitter) not up to the usual standard. I enjoy visiting this pub but I think it was having a bit of an off day when I was there.

Staff very friendly. We had the Sunday roast which was brilliant. Both the beef, and the chicken were gorgeous. Massive portions, hot, and more important, tasty. The staff looked after us even though there was a massive Halloween party for the kids ongoing at the same time. The place was very well organised, and no body got in anyone else's way.

Massive improvement to the beer. The bar actually looked like it had been cleaned. Staff were attentive and not on mobile phones. Huge difference since change of leadership.

My wife and I went here for food I ordered a curry absolutely terrible my wife had a burger which she couldn’t eat I think I will stick to the fox and hounds as we always have a fantastic meal should have been a zero rated not a good experience

This is a great pub. The bar is full of friendly people and their dogs which is awesome. Who doesn't like to fuss a dog while ordering a drink? The food is really nice and is cooked pretty quick even when busy. My only complaint (and this is more because of my neuro Diversity) is the door to the toilets and beer garden. It sees a lot of traffic and every time someone goes through it, the door bangs shut so I would flinch every time it shut. If they just put some soft sponge around the frame this pub would literally be the greatest of pubs.

Great good and good choice of beers. Very busy as the second time in a few weeks it was overrun with children. Major disappointment was not giving 30% off main meals. Had the offer last week in the Fox and Hounds without needing a voucher but none given for this pub even though the Fynnon Web issued them and they are further away from where we live.

Food always tasty, great gluten free options and nice atmosphere. Beer garden is lovely on a sunny day and great juke box.

Held a family party Saturday afternoon - evening - absolutely outstanding!!!! Everything was perfect, staff were awesome. Couldn’t have asked for better. Everything was taken care of for us - all we had to do was relax and enjoy ourselves. Thank you all so much!

Very disappointed with our meal. I had the beef roast dinner which was cold, soft soggy roast potato’s ,overcooked veg and the beef was so tough I couldn’t cut it. I’d gone for the large which meant you got an extra large soggy Yorkshire pudding....

What can I say about the Birchgrove in when I first move up to the Heath as I live & work at the University Hospital of Wales I went in to a couple of pub's as I didn't know anyone so I decided to check out the Birchgrove my first time there I was made so welcome it was as if I had been going there for years whaan atmosphere friendly the bar staff are Crazy 🤪 in a nice way the food wow 11out of 10 fab pub awesome 👌 food even though I'm a SWANSEA JACK what a welcome thank you so so much Stu NHS

This place should be a1 for customer service, Adam and josh were very welcoming, and the food was amazing and nothing was too much too ask, this place has changed so much since new ownership, atmosphere is great.

Pleasant experience and good place to sit, socialise and eat. Roast was good value and tasty. Tatties could have been a bit more crispy :-)

What a lovely pub! I was too early for an appointment across the road and dived in here, partly to escape the scorching weather! It was lovely and cool, spacious and relaxing. I was immediately made welcome by all the staff - nothing was too much trouble. I enjoyed a tasty salad for lunch and a long refreshing drink. It was too hot for alcohol (for me, anyway!) but I'd like to come back to try the excellent range of cask beer on offer here. Many thanks

Amazing venue. Really lovely staff and the food is quick, hot and tasty. Took my dog into the main bar and she was greated with open arms and fresh water bowl and some tasty snacks. Lovely beer garden with comfortable chairs which is dog friendly...

Family run pub with a good selection of beers and friendly staff always up for a chat to offer local advice. Great food, location and a diverse range of bands/singers at weekends. Well worth a visit if one finds themselves down this way.
