The Birchgrove in Cardiff

My daughters car broke down after long day at Noah ark children's hospital, Rainbow ward. Desperate to get home to her 20month old daughter and partner going back on a night shift. The Manager, staff and locals were nothing but kind, compassionate and caring as her breakdown cover wasn't due for several hours. I wouldn't hesitate to celebrate these earth angels 🙏 Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Grateful mother and nana xxx

Went to the Tom Jones tribute night just before Xmas and had a brilliant night the food was amazing and gluten free was not a problem and the atmosphere was great

We, as a family, had our Christmas dinner on Xmas day.We had a fantastic time, the 3 course meal was amazing, the staff at THE BIRCHGROVE INN were outstanding.All of them ,from the bar,waiting staff and not forgetting the chefs. This was our first experience of eating out on the big day,it didn't disappoint,can we book a table for next year?!

Good pub, surprisingly good food for pub food. Even though it was busy with Wales playing football they were able to show the rugby in a corner. Pub was rammed but staff were still friendly and helpful.

This pub does the best chips! Plus the staff are really friendly and it's always lively. Feels super cosy and welcoming and a very good selection of lagers and beers

The service we had was excellent, very pleasant bar staff, and the food was very well received by all of our party. Really looking forward to seeing the renovations when completed in July.

Efficient staff, speedily serving queues. SA ran out, however barman said he’d tap a fresh barrel and could serve it in 20 minutes; he caught my eye about half later and confirmed with a nod the beer was ready. It was gorgeous and we stayed till close enjoying the quality ale

50th Birthday skittles and buffet bash. Had to give a second thought to Tom’s mention of using the skittle alley for this family and friends do. Glad I did as we had a great time. Catering was good and bar service good considering it was a Saturday evening! Never seen so many people having a good larf over a daft game of skittles. Highly recommend

Best roast had in ages.. well worth the money. Great spot to watch the football too, will be back soon. Would highly recommend.

Great wee place for quit lunch or lively evening

The food is great with brilliant service. The waitress, Chelsea introduced the food and drinks in detail. The price of the food is reasonable. The restaurant is tidy and clean. We definitely will come again.

Lovely food and great atmosphere

Visited Birchgrove with a family member to have dinner a a few pints of ale. Very friendly and pleasant service (ignoring the surly young man, whom would be more suited to a very busy rugby club, as he was almost throwing low measured pints onto the bar). We asked if the Olympic opening ceremony could be put on a TV, and were offered a choice of TVs that we could sit near and have the displayed rugby changed to Olympic. Very pleaseing. Ordered food and drank very well poured Reverend James beer, I wish I could recall the young ladies name (she wore a frock) she was very friendly and made a bit of a fuss of my dad which he was delighted by; pulled the ale exceptionally well keeping the glass tight in the swan-neck. *We enjoyed two extra pints each due to the service and quality of beer

Staff friendly & helpful, 2 of our group are gluten free +couple other allergies. The chef even popped out to check, food was really good.Best GF choice we have had , even a great choice of puddings, not just ice cream. Thank you for a good experience .

Came to the Birchgrove to have food and drinks with the family. Food was great and a wide range of drinks to choose from. All the staff were really friendly and attentive. Will definitely be recommending this pub to friends and family.

Sat outside and the sun was shining. Hoping to have a Sunday dinner, but they were off menu. Ordered from the standard menu, chicken pie, chicken and beefburgers. The food was very good, hot and tasty. Great Spanish larger. Excellent, friendly service, an enjoyable couple of hours.

Really helpful and accommodating staff! I used a voucher for food I received through the post and there was no issue redeeming it. The food was excellent and I had a pint of Bombardier which was clear and refreshing! Top service from a lovely local pub.

Absolutely disgusting service from staff. After waiting over 30 minutes for food I was told it would be another 10, understandably things can go wrong from time to time. But when my food eventually arrived it was cold and tasteless! I approached a member of staff walking past and she advised she would send someone over to help us out. 5/10 mins later nobody came over so I went to the bar to ask if we could get a refund and the member of staff said she wasn't able to . I asked to speak to the manager and she advised he doesn't deal with issues on food and said I'd have to speak to somebody in the kitchen. I will never attend the birchgrove again. Absolute shambles of a place. Would attend here regularly up until last year. Havant been in cardiff for a while but i was really looking forward to the meal. Will definitely not be returning. Avoid!!!!!!

15 of us went here for a birthday meal, the team in the Birchgrove were amazing they couldn't do enough for us. They made us feel very welcome, the service was excellent all the food come out all at once, it was hot and everyone enjoyed their meal. Definitely go there again, excellent customer service and great good. Definitely go there again.

Nice pub, nice pint, nice food, staff a great. Atmosphere on the weekends is always busy & buzzing more often than not. If you're a smoker, they have a really nice outside area, too.

Having booked lunch on a Sunday, I decided to try 'the Sunday Roast Dinner', selecting the vegetarian option. It included all the usual vegetables you'd expect and more - carrots, broccoli, roasted parsnips & potatoes, mashed potato, a stuffing ball & a Yorkshire pudding. Gravy was already on the dinner when served; I'm sure if you ask for a jug of gravy to be served alongside your meal, they would do this for you. I cleared my plate & would certainly recommend eating here to my friends.

Myself & 2 friends were ladies who lunch 😆😆😆 we came here for the 1st time & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, bar & wait staff were lovely & courteous & nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, I had the kebab, yes an open kebab & it was stunning. We will definately be returning. 😄😄😁😁

Visited the pub for the first time for a few weeks. As usual, the service from the bar staff was first class. But the main reason for my review was to express my delight to see that the full range of Brains beers were on sale, including my favourite, the SA Gold! The Birchgrove has always been a well attended pub over the many years we have been visiting, with many choosing to drink Brains beers which has proved a big favourite to those of us brought up in Cardiff. In my opinion, other 'guest ales' at the pub in the past year or two didn't have the same appeal. Looking forward to more regular visits to our favourite local, The Birchgrove, for a pint or two of your excellent Brains SA gold!

We ordered 2 classic chicken burgers and we have waiting 40 minutes and we asked how long is going to take then they said 20 minutes and past 30 minutes already and nothing yet. FIRST AND LAST TIME HERE .

Enjoying the new management (landlord). I hadn’t been in a while because the placed changed under old management but the new landlord has come in and has such a positive change. The atmosphere has improved 10 fold and the food is of excellent quality. I will be making this my regular and looking to coming back already.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. I'm new to the area and what a delight it is to have such a great pub just up the road - staff are super friendly and the food is great too! There's also a secret beer garden out back (as well as the one at the front) ill be spoilt for choice on sunny days 🌞 I’ll definitely be back!

Friendly staff, food was lovely

I have been a regular (everyday) patron of the Birchgrove and the management has improved considerably since Tom has been in charge. The beers are first class because the lines are regularly cleaned and the general ambiance has improved not only because of the hands-on aspects of the manager but this has also enthused the staff such as Stephanie and also Elysia who brightens up our day with her friendly character and efficiency. The Birchgrove has all the sporting event you could wish for and as I visit the bar every day I have choice of different events on any one of the four TVs and if there are two different matches being broadcast at the same time, both are displayed on one or more of the TVs - we are spoiled.

I am afraid I am going to have to change my review of the Birchgrove I came off a 16 hour shift as I work for the NHS I decided to go for a pint after work a well deserved pint an hour or so in to my 2nd pint I must have noded off to sleep for a few minutes that's all I was shattered I was in relax mode after a long shift a member of the bar staff came to my tabe took my pint and said I'm not serving you anymore rather than ask are OK I would have replied yes it's been a long day I'm sorry I would have finished my pint and left but the bar member didn't give me a chance I was asked to leave I will not be going there ever again

Came in to this pub because I had a 30% off voucher through the door and thought I would give it a go, I must say the food was fantastic and much better than your standard pub grub. The team were extremely helpful and attentive, I'll certainly be returning

Came here last Saturday for the live entertainment. Fantastic vibe and looks like they have live music every saturday night. They also have a fantastic secret garden that I never knew existed!

Fantastic Sunday Lunch at the Birchgrove today. The veg is fresh and roasted to perfection. Yorkshire puddings huge and taste fresh! I had the veggie sausages with mine and they even had veggie gravy - delightful

Great experience at the Birchgrove inn, the local pub has it all, good food, a secret beer garden to the rear of the building and most importantly a welcoming atmosphere. Huge improvement to the Sunday roasts with freshly cooked veg 👌Hats off to the Chefs in the kitchen

It’s my “local” so I may be biased but all the staff are always attentive and polite, the food is good (although writing that it’s about time they changed the menu for the sake of variety), and it’s warm and inviting.

I used the fabulous Steph and her team to arrange a Baby Shower for my daughter. Steph was fantastic from start to finish. She communicated with me throughout and made sure that everything was just perfect on the day. She had loads of great ideas and dealt with everything in a very friendly and professional way. The day was everything we had wished for and more. The venue looked beautiful and the buffet was amazing. Thanks Steph we will definitely be using you again in the future and I will be recommending you to all my family and friends. ❤️

We visited on Boxing Day for the 2 course festive menu. Service was exceptional and the quality of the food was excellent, perfect portion sizes too. If you are willing to have us, we will be Boxing Day regulars from hereon!
