We came about a year ago and had a lovely Sunday Lunch but this time we were disappointed. The roasties were hard and dry and the beef whilst really tender and flavorful was hard to spot on the plate. Two measly slices and the price of course does not reflect value for money. Such a shame as its a lovely place and the waiters are excellent and this is not their fault. We didnt complain at the time. Should have done but there you go lesson learned. Im not saying dont go but if you arent happy say something.

We love this place! We come with friends normally but my family and I were at Woburn Forest this weekend so I took them all for Sunday lunch for the first time! Mark was an amazing, welcoming host as usual and the staff and service today was impeccable! We were served promptly but didn’t feel rushed at anytime and it was packed with diners as usual! Big shout out to Craig the chef for his delicious food but especially the new desserts! I can highly recommend the spiced apple crumble cheesecake with homemade fudge pieces that are the BEST fudge pieces I have ever tasted! Will be back for more soon ❤️

The Birch is a little special: not your average fancy pub. We go once or twice a year for special occasions. We visited Saturday night at peak time: it was busy and buzzing. The service was fine: not special but not poor, if a little slow. As usual we had a main, sweet and coffee. The disappointment was my main: it was curried monk fish. It consisted of two filets of monkfish an inch square piece of pakora and a green vegetable garnish. I am not a large eater but this was ridiculous: in retrospect I should have complained before eating it rather than to the lady manager at the end of the course. I know monk fish is expensive and it was a reasonable portion but it had nothing to speak of to accompany it. The chef badly needs to rethink this dish to include some substantial vegetable or potato. My wife’s portion of cod was fine and the fish and chips at another table looked more than adequate. Without the sticky banana sweet to follow it would have been a stop at the chip shop on the way home. At £60 a head inc wine one should not leave feeling dissatisfied.

Flying solo, I stopped to pass some time. Car park was busy, but a few empty tables available inside. I met Victoria at the bar, who although informative about the ales, seemed a little reserved, a smile would have enhanced the welcome. The clientele present were amiable and it looked like they were enjoying their lunch. I had a handle ( no dimples available ) of Tribute, and honestly, it was served at the perfect temperature and a reasonable price. A very nice experience and I would certainly visit again.

To celebrate my wife’s birthday we took a drive to the The Birch I ordered baos buns to start with pulled pork on a slaw and the buns were as dry as desert stone ! The slaw had no dressing nor was one offered , I sent this back as the baos were so bad As a main course i had jerk sweet potato with black beans…..it was ok but no way was the sauce any way like a jerk seasoned sauce …. Overall disappointed The front of house team did try hard but the food missed the mark !

I visited the restaurant with friends for lunch on 31 August. The food and the service was fabulous and the starter sharing platter was amazing. Definitely the best restaurant in Milton Keynes / Woburn and we will be returning soon. The birthday card on the table was a a lovely thought. Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon.

This place never fails. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere is delightful. We literally go to so many restaurants and can not fault this place. The meats are always beautifully cooked to however you like them. We will be visiting The Birch for many years to come.

My husband booked this lovely place as a surprise for our 2nd wedding anniversary. This was in a beautiful area not far from home. We were greeted by the owner who was extremely polite, warming and friendly. The restaurant was beautiful as was the bar area. Extremely tasteful decor and service was impeccable from the moment we walked in. The food was delicious and well presented to Michelin standards in our opinion! Hats off to the chefs. The flavours were amazing. A must try place, truly a hidden gem. Highly recommend! Thank you again to the owner and all the staff/chefs. We will be spreading the word and definitely returning. 🥰

Our first visit. A very warm welcome and the restaurant looked lovely. For my starter I chose the Chicken Parfait Crème Caramel and it was to die for!!! Best food I have tasted in years. My husband had the sweet potato with rhubarb soup also delicious. For our mains we had the burger again super delicious. We were too full up for dessert! Service was fantastic and as we left so many of the staff wished us well and it was all genuine. We are going to make this our go to place!! Could find no fault at all.

It is a real pleasure to return to the Birch. We were warmly welcomed by Mark. His staff are efficient and the food was delicious. We enjoyed our starters, mains and desserts, and the menu keeps an excellent range of choices to make, at the Birch. The wine list has a broad selection of bottles, representing good value for the quality offered. Highly recommended to visit.

Went with another couple. Pleasant staff in the main. We went late on a Sunday afternoon and it was very busy. It looked like too many people for the staff working to be honest. I ordered a beer, but that never came (although the others in the party had theirs). I prompted and it eventually arrived. The dinner arrived. Two of us asked for some more gravy. That came in a tiny pot enough for one. Had to ask for another tiny pot. Then asked for some horseradish sauce for three of us. Waitress brought another tiny tray container, which went very quickly again. Had to ask another two times for two more tiny trays (there was only enough for one person per tray to be honest). Young waitress didn’t look too happy at all. Gravy was lukewarm, but by now we’d called the waitress back so many times, it was getting embarrassing. They were working very hard and as I say, were very pleasant in the main, but the apparent shortage of staff evidently lowered the quality.

As regular visitors to the Birch we were most underwhelmed by our recent experience. A wait of 20 minutes for a drink. No water or the offer of water the table. 50 minutes for food (glad we didn’t order a starter) which quite frankly was very average at best. My wife had a very watery seafood risotto and my chicken meal was poor, cold vegetables, lumpy potato and poor quality meat. Both mains priced at £20 or over. In hindsight I would have sent both meals back but due to the length of the wait we were hungry. A service charge was added to the bill as a matter of course. This I paid as by this point I just wanted to leave. I hope this was a blip and normal service is resumed at the Birch ASAP

I was gifted a voucher to be used at the restaurant, so I planned a meal with my wife on Saturday night. The booking was straightforward, although I didn't like using my credit card and agreeing to their strict no-show/cancellation policy. However, I wouldn't be able to book without this, so I carried on. Upon arriving at the restaurant. We were shown our table. I was a little hesitant to accept as a large birthday party opposite had a number of children present, but they were very well behaved! The starters were lovely, but both main courses were under par. I had the pigeon, which required about 10 seconds of cutting each piece to get it into pieces small enough to eat. I have never had to cut a much with tough meat. I expected this to fall apart. The mash wasn't anything to write home about either. My wife ordered the chicken supreme, which came with mash (not mentioned on the menu) and ordered a side of chips because of this. There was no sauce, and the meal was very dry. The chips were hard in the middle. We complained when the plates were taken away and the waitress laughed! We hadn't eaten everything and I think in retrospect she thought we were joking. We weren't! We ordered one dessert, which was very nice. The staff were really good, attentive and helpful, except for when it counted and the meal that we were given. Had i not waited 7 hours to eat, this would have gone back to the kitchen. The bill was for everything we ordered, no discount which I found very poor and they had included a 10% surcharge for service. I think that was naughty for a table of 2. Large tables, this is usually the norm, but not for 2. I think that we may have been unlucky with a poor meal, but I won't be going back to try again. Once burnt.....

A fantastic meal with delicious food, great wine and efficient friendly service. Mark is running an excellent restaurant. We enjoyed the triple dips -nibbles over a wonderful bottle of Puligny Montrachet, which is very reasonably priced for such a superior wine, followed by scallops and then two really excellent mains. I had the haddock special and my wife had the cod. Finally an excellent soufflé and a glass of Sauterne to round of the meal. Well done by all!

I dined here several times and the food and service have always been of a high standard. However, I would like to warn people..if you are buying a gift voucher for someone, buy in multiple quantities of smaller amounts rather than one big amount. Went there today and was told that despite selling vouchers for £20 and £25 pounds we would not receive any change from out £50 voucher, even if we only spent £25. I do not expect exact change from a voucher, and they can only give replacement vouchers that do not leave them out of pocket but I was not happy at the thought of losing £25 so ate elsewhere I shall be back when we have guests.

The country is full of restaurant chains and pubs trying very hard to make a living: The Birch is neither of these: it is a family owned professional restaurant. The food is clearly prepared by a chef and not a cook: beautifully presented and with interesting flavours. The service is professional: not served by A level students trying to make a pound or two. The man who appears to be in charge (Mark?) is welcoming and chatty but not intrusive. The prices are fair by todays standards and represent great value. We only visit for 'special' occasions but would strongly recommend it.

Nice food but tainted by poor service. My Mayo never arrived so I had to make do without it, a girl cleaned the table next to us and ignored us sitting there with finished plates, eventually they were taken. Then she asked us if we had finished with our drinks when we still had 1/4 glass of wine each. They add a service charge on so the service should be on point, therefore it’s a bit cheeky to do so. Sadly won’t return.

If you're in late, or short notice, especially on a Sunday a lot of places can't handle it, but no problems - and loads of the amazing Sunday roasts left to order even with a table at 15.45 - awesome! If you're looking for a lazy, intimate and delicious Sunday get to The Birch (book ahead just in case!)

Whilst this was a return to an old favourite restaurant after quite a gap, it was disappointing that for two of us. The starter of beetroot salad was inedible as the beetroots were raw. We brought this to the attention of the maitre d', who agreed. We had no choice but to choose alternative dishes, further no offer or concession was made. This was disappointing, when items had been presented that by no stretch of imagination could be acceptable. One is left with a feeling of disappointment, that the management had no wish to leave the customers feeling that the evening was a great experience. It is sad to add we will not be rushing back.

When we arrived we were told to follow a member of staff to our table. He didn’t say hello or acknowledge us- just marched ahead and we followed. He placed the menus on the table and just left. Nobody came to ask us if we wanted drinks etc. We sat there reading the menus and waited whilst staff busily walked past. After 10 minutes, we had to call a passing waitress to order drinks. She didn’t ask if we were ready to order food just went off. Drinks came and again just left us and another 10 minutes passed and whilst other customers who came after us were served- we were left. We ordered table water along with the wine but a bottle of water was brought and opened before we could say anything. We didn’t want to stay for a dessert or coffee as we weren’t enjoying our dining experience. When the bill came, I asked for the service charge be removed as we didn’t receive a good service from any of the staff. When the new bill was brought by the manager he appeared miffed and just placed it on the table. If that was me, I would of taken the opportunity to ask if we had a good meal etc Staff seemed they didn’t want to give eye contact or be particularly friendly. The only one who did was the young lad at the bar who greeted us. When two large parties arrived- staff were attentive including the owner- an obvious difference from the lack of service we received. The food we enjoyed but that didn’t make up for the poor service. We sent feedback directly to them but instead of any form of apology, received, via a phone call, a defensive, almost aggressive response, indirectly calling me a liar and almost our fault for turning up 20 minutes to early! The manager thought it was okay to talk over me and not listen but didn’t like it when I talked over him. Shame he didn’t want to take the opportunity to apologise but obviously thought he was in the right

I am sad to write this as two weeks ago I would rate this restaurant as excellent. today, we ordered the pork belly, the fish and chips and two beef burgers (one was requested to have some of the toppings removed). The burgers were delivered the way we requested however they mixed up the box labelled ''just bacon'' and the normal one which resulted in a very hungry and unaware child eating the wrong burger. The tartar sauce that came with the fish and chips was also too chunky. The biggest sin of all was the presence of two significant sized chicken eggshell pieces found inside the meat patty of the burger. It was soo bad that my guest who had the burger almost chocked on it.

After a long and fun day at Woburn Safari park my partner and I decided to stop for a Sunday lunch before returning home. We saw The Birch on our drive and the car park was full so we where not hopeful that on a busy Sunday afternoon and the last one open before another lockdown we would have any luck securing a table with out a reservation. Fortunately for us they had had a cancellation for a table of two so we struck lucky. From the second we walked through the door the service was impeccable, Covid - 19 precautions where above and beyond. Our meals ( Roast Lamb, Trio of roast & a cheese board to share to finish ) where just perfect. Well done to the kitchen team! There was a slight mix up and we where brought an anniversary plate along with our cheese which I presume was probably prepared for the couple who cancelled before us...But we found that rather amusing and enjoyed the plate as it could not be returned as my partner has just returned recently from a 6month military assignment and so we never did get to celebrate our anniversary this year. So just another bonus for us - Thank you!Being in Restaurant management myself I can honestly say this establishment is outstanding in every way and the staff are most certainly an asset to the owners. Every one we interacted with and I observed where brilliant. And in such good spirits considering the times. We live a little over an hour away but we will be looking forward to returning once lockdown is over and I urge everyone to go to this restaurant.

Oh my gosh, the mullet was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and perfectly accompanied by a mustard sauce, crushed potatoes with spring onions and mange tout. The fish and chips and steak burger got a rave review too. The crumbles were made with local apples and fruits and tasted so fresh and warming on a damp and cold day. The restaurant was lovely and clean and it was clear they had made efforts to limit bookings and keep guest safe with screens and ample space. The staff all wore masks which in our experience, hasn't been a common sight from our recent "eating out to help out" mission. The food and the wine options were all explained to us and we were given plenty of time to choose. Mark was very warm and welcoming and even gave us a card to celebrate our special occasion. The food was out of this world. I had the chouder followed by the fish and chips and the vanilla creme brulé. It was all beautifully seasoned and hot, clearly all home made and presented well. The wine was very nice too and Mark actually knew facts about our choice that demonstrates the care and attention the staff all put in to making their customers experience so enjoyable.Everyone in my party was well looked after and their meals were equally tasty and enjoyable. We will definitely return during our next visit to see our family. Thanks guys!

Just wanted to write a review on The Birch. I had previously booked for Mother’s Day putting a deposit down, but lockdown scuppered these plans, so as soon as The Birch opened up I reorganised. The service is impeccable, my dad is in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating in ensuring he had appropriate access. The food has probably got even better since I last went. It is really really good, with everyone thoroughly enjoying what they ordered. Additionally for those that are worried about Covid, these guys have it nailed. Sanitiser everywhere, Perspex at the bar and staff wearing masks with appropriate distancing. Please book ahead but do go...

Great to visit Mark and the team again on their "re-opening" night. Everything possible had been done to ensure our safety. The staff,as usual, were courteous and professional and went the extra mile. Probably one of the best meals we've had on our many visits. Good sized portions and reasonably priced. Keep up the good work - we shall return !

Well done the team at the Birch, you have got it bang on with the food choices and fantastic service. Very sad to hear about your cancellations and you should charge a booking deposit. I had to try out the click and collect service to see how The Birch would fare, knowing their high standards. I was not disappointed with my Saturday supper beer battered cod and chips, complete with tartare sauce and crushed buttered garden peas, all of which was still piping hot by the time I got it home (15 minutes away) and as delicious as expected. I will definitely be returning very soon for a Sunday roast, and would recommend you to try it, too.

This evening was able to once again taste the delights of the Birch at Woburn. It was good to see that for the next couple of weeks there is a Takeaway menu for weekends and being able to enjoy the excellent food is a must, even if at this time we can still not enjoy the outstanding ambience that Mark and the team create in the restaurant.I strongly recommend trying out the takeaway menu and every care and concern has been taken to ensure the customers can order and pay online and then collect at a specified time making the whole process very simple indeed. As always my meal was excellent - I have never known it otherwise.Thank you to all concerned and as I say GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK!

I have seen the comment from RibeyeBlue” and the response from the owner. I was part of the group of 4 which experienced that peculiar dinner. The application of EHO ‘regulations’ (or to be more accurately “guidelines” which is not quite the same as “regulation” …) has nothing to do with the situation – actually the waiter never referred to “EHO guidelines” during the discussion. He only referred to taste, and focusing apparently on his own. We have never seen, in the UK or elsewhere, a restaurant refusing to serve a ribeye ‘bleu’, or any other piece of meat (except in some cases mincemeat such as burgers). The Birch at Woburn is surely not suggesting that other places which serve ribeye “bleu” are playing games with the health of their customers, is it?The reality is that it requires high skills to rightly cook a ribeye ‘bleu’. Overcooking it, or having it cold inside, require strictly no cooking talents. “Bleu and hot” is the tricky thing that only good chefs can do, but arguably not the one at the Birch at Woburn. It requires taking the meat out of the fridge long in advance. There is no such thing as a set cooking time of “90 seconds on each side” – it always depends on the thickness of the meat… this comment tells probably a lot about the refusal to meet customers expectations. Hot also means that it will kill the “bacteria” that are normally found in a good piece of meat – unless the owner is considering other, more resistant, types germs in her comments? The exact same story happened on 27 July 2018 – see below in the “terrible comments page" – since then, the chef apparently made no efforts in learning how to prepare meat as customers expect it. If you like your meat prepared to YOUR taste, not that of the waiter or owner, maybe the Birch at Woburn is not the right place to visit, unless you like it overdone.

I went with a group of 4 for dinner on Saturday 14 March at the Birch at Woburn. We were welcome by a jolly fellow behind the bar, keen to make jokes with customers. That was the beginning… and the end of the fun. When the same fellow took orders, I asked for a ribeye. “Yes sir, how would you like it ? well-done ?” I wanted it blue – or as the French would say: “bleu”. The jolly fellow suggested that this was not the right way: “I advise medium rare”. I thanked for the advice, but I repeated that I wanted it blue, and that I would return it if it’s too cooked. An interesting discussion continued a short while about the best way to have a ribeye. Then, surprisingly: “Sir, I won’t let you have your ribeye bleu’ (en français dans le texte !). “The chef won’t cook it this way”. I respectfully hinted that I was not asking how he wanted it, but how I wanted it. The jolly fellow continued to stubbornly refuse, and finally the 4 of us left and had dinner elsewhere, where we were not restricted in our choices. At the Birch at Woburn, be aware that the owner does not take orders, he gives them.

We visited The Birch on a recommendation from a friend who visits quite regularly. Greeted warmly by Mark Campbell (General Manager) on arrival, we were shown to our table in what we can only describe as a beautiful restaurant. Great setting, lovely décor and comfortable seating. The Birch has superb menus for lunch and dinner; we were there for dinner. And oh my goodness – the food!! Presentation was great, good servings and the flavours were divine. The serving staff were lovely. The experience was, from beginning to end, an absolute delight. Thank you for looking after us so well. We shall be back.

Visited on a quite quiet Thursday evening but I have to say every night thereafter was fully booked. From the time we walked in the door the atmosphere and reception was exceptional. We were looked after immediately by three different waiting staff. My wife had the soup of the day, which was mushroom. I chose the chicken and ham terrine with home made piccalilli both dishes were excellent and I have to say I have never in my twenty seven years of marriage heard my wife be so impressed with a soup. For our mains I had the Pan fried chicken breast with mushroom, broccoli and garlic confit croquettes. This was absolutely gorgeous really tasty. My wife had the Salmon supreme and was once again very verbal about how fantastic the dish was. We both managed to squeeze a dessert in and by then we were well and truly stuffed. Congratulations to all the staff and chefs at The Birch you are a credit to the area. We hope to see you again soon !!

What can I say from the started to the main course, the quality and presentation of the food surpassed all expectations. I have never tasted locally sourced food tasting so exquisite and flavors that excited every taste bud, simply WOW. The duck confit ballotine starter would be my choice every time and then the Pan Seared Woburn Estate Venison Haunch left me complimenting the dish for days after.

Is it me or does everybody who eats at this establishment eat raw vegatables? Thia is the second time we have eaten here AND IT'S NOT CHEAP, that the veg is not cooked. We were a large party and paid well for food we should of been able to eat, we did not complain at the time for fear of spoiling the party's day but 3 of our party were not happy with the LAMB,VEG, OR POTATOES and the yorkie is too big for the plate. Lamb is my favourite meat and so i'm a big fan of veg,,,Your eastablishment does not portray being an AL A CARTE. restaurant, why was the veg not cooked? some of us had 3 large roast spuds which were tasteless and others only had 2 small ones. The Lamb, well, our knives could not cut into the thick slices and it was tough and grizzly. Don't get me wrong, the thick slices were a great surprise as many places don't do that, but it never done you justice saying it was slow cooked, it was a bit too bloody in the middle for me. I only had a sweet because i was hungry and even though it to was over priced, it was hot and i enjoyed that. So, all in all i won't go here again unless i am forced to by a member of our family

5 of us dined here for Sunday lunch to celebrate 2 birthdays today. We were welcomed by friendly bar staff. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The service was outstanding, attentive but unobtrusive. Nothing too much trouble. We noticed that a) there were enough staff and b) they were all happy and smiling (quite a rarity these days!). They were observant, efficient, friendly and professional. The menu was varied and excellent choices for all tastes. Between us we ate warm smoked mackerel, fish cake with poached egg, scotch egg. 3 roast lamb, one chicken mushroom pie and one salmon fillet on beetroot rosti . 1 salted caramel pecan cheesecake with ginger ice cream, 1 creme brûlée. Every dish was well presented and cooked to perfection including the vegetables. Even the bread for the oils/pesto was good and served warm. We all really enjoyed our visit. This was our first visit in a long time and we will definitely go back. The restaurant was full, some large parties and some couples etc. The tables are not too close together. We did not feel rushed. Highly recommend.

This was my first time here, my Mum had booked lunch for my husband and I to join her. First impressions I noticed how clean and fresh it looked, and such a bright dining area. There was the lunch menu and specials to choose from and immediately I knew I would need to come back to try other options. After seeing the size of the meals coming out for other tables my husband opted out of the starters but mum and I ordered and also enjoyed the fresh bread and dips first. The starters and mains came out in a timely manor and they were all amazing. We were so full no puddings were ordered but the ones that came out to other tables looked amazing, so,etching else I need to go back and try! The servers were very attentive, polite, friendly and helpful, we didn’t have to ask for anything as they offered first. For a first time visit I was really impressed and know I am looking forward to going back. I’ve already looked at the dinner menu and thinking what I would order! Thank you for such a great lunch, I only wish I lived closer, but I know my Mum can’t wait for us to go back to see her again, and I’m sure it will include another visit here it’s highly recommend.
