The Bicycle in Tendring

The Bicycle is consistently fabulous in every way. Menu uses very fresh seasonal food, presented beautifully and tasting top notch. The wine menu is carefully curated and Brian will explain the characteristics of a good wine to pair with our food choice. The welcome from Kerry, Brian and their staff is always genuine and warm. Restaurant atmosphere is very customer-focused and comfortable. I highly recommend The Bicycle for high quality, variety and everything I hope a good restaurant experience would be. Don't forget to book a taxi to get home .... then simply relax and enjoy.

A perfect birthday lunch. Food was superb. In fact we were spoilt for choice, with so many delicious options on the menu. We received a warm welcome & the service throughout the meal was excellent. The restaurant has ample parking & is in a lovely setting. This was our first visit but, hopefully, won’t be our last.

The Bicycle is the only place we eat and we highly recommend it. The food is second to none, the staff are so attentive and Kerry and Brian are such great hosts. Today the sun was shining and we had an amazing meal in their beautiful garden. Over the years that we have eaten there we have never had a bad meal or bad service

We called on a Saturday with not much hope of getting a table for Sunday lunch. We were told they were pretty sure they could accommodate us but had to do a bit of "re-jigging" and would call us back. Sure enough a few minutes later we got a confirmation. We had chicken, roast beef and vegetarian lunches and all were delicious. Not massive dessert choices but we all found something yummy. We were sat indoors in the cosy 'bar area' of the restaurant in this nearly 300 year old building and former pub. When we left the garden/patio area was also well visited. All staff members including the owners were very friendly, helpful and chatty. Prices were not much more than any pub but the food was fresh and beautifully presented. We had a lovely time, delicious food and will be back for sure.

What a great evening had by all, the staff were great, very friendly with great sense of humour’s. The food was cooked to perfection, presented perfectly & tasted great. Brian,Kerry & all the staff made this a night to remember, thank you for your great hospitality

Beautiful setting, gorgeous food and fantastic staff, very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they are very down to Earth yet professional. They made our evening. Wonderful people, highly recommend.

Had the most amazing experience at the bicycle, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcomed. The waitress knew the menus in detail. The food was excellent, I don’t usually have 3 courses - but could not pass up the cheese board, not the usual Jacob’s cream crackers but artisan crackers and beautiful cheese. The hosts were very friendly and made the whole expedience memorable- would definitely recommend and will be booking again

My first visit to this restaurant and time out of the house after a broken leg ,and my first time on crutches so a bit wobbly. We parked just outside of the restaurant at the front on a safe part of the rd ,the owner came out saying can’t park there we kindly explained to her that it’s just a Short stop to let me out with crouches as I have a broken leg . She was repeating you can’t park there , didn’t keep door open just shut it in my path , I thought how very unkind, she could see that I was struggling- she made it very clear that we needed to move the car asap , so the driver felt he couldn’t wait to help me into the restaurant, but thankfully wile the driver parked the car a guest at the restaurant came to open the two doors to help me in - he said he saw me through the window and wanted to help nice man . when I entered her restaurant she wanted to put me in a tight space facing a brick wall with no place for my extended leg or a place for my crutches- the restaurant was empty it was a Friday at 1pm not at all busy just us and the man and his partner who helped me in the doors ,I also booked a few days in advance and explained I was going to be on crutches or may be in a wheelchair. I asked then for a table with the window and more space - she looked angry ,but I was not sure if that was her normal angry expression. She looked reluctant.but said I could take the more spacious table but again not seeing me to the table leaving me to struggle pulling the chair out . I just had a main course my guest had three courses After just finishing his 3rd course she collected his plate and I barely put my cutlery down and she swooped up my plate ,after her disposing of our plates Plates, she wheeled up the deserts menu and said you must order desert as we stop ordering 3pm ,it was only 2:15 /20 pm at that time I was needing a break as I just literally finished the fish and chips , that was very nice . My guest felt obligated and ordered some cheese . The food was delicious so no complaints about that, but she did make the whole experience rushed and I felt dare I say anything she didn’t want to hear. on the other hand the husband and young lady who helped served us ,was polite friendly with a real customer chilled service . Not like his wife who was treating us like we were at a McDonald s or fast food restaurant. It really was a case of take our money and rush us out the door so she could finish and ring up her till ££££££ most courses £11:95 starter - main course £24 .99. Desert £9:95 . Cheapest wine £25 .spanish . chiefs and the husband are truly let down by her- this was a shame as I live on the doorstep to this place after moving from Dedham ,was looking for another Milsoms experience but near to our new home We

First visit but our daughter and son in law have been many times and wanted to treat us as they knew we would love it! They were absolutely right, what a lovely restaurant, ambience was great, staff were so attentive and friendly, they were very busy, but we did not have to wait long for anything! the food was delicious, and a brilliant selection of good wines. The only blip was a lady dining near us decided to stand up and berate a member of staff very loudly in the middle of the restaurant over the price of her coffee, fair enough if your not happy with something your entitled to say, but do it discreetly, we found her to be very rude and obviously liked the sound of her own voice! I must say it was handled very well by the staff member and did not spoil our experience We can highly recommend The Bicycle, only wish we had found it sooner, we will definitely be going back, and recommending it to others.

This is our favourite restaurant in Tendring! The level of service and attention to detail is incredible and makes it worth visiting alone, but the quality of food and combination of flavours are just incredible too! The smoked duck breast is a fabulous starter and the lamb chop in the red wine and mint sauce was a wonderful combination of flavours and textures. We love it, live in Colchester, but travel down to visit as much as we can. Beautiful outside area for the upcoming summer too! Top tip… order a hit drink regardless of whether you want one… it’s served with the most incredible homemade fudge which make the drink completely irrelevant!

What an amazing find, tucked off the road as you drive towards Thorpe/Frinton. Such an interesting menu and all courses were equally as delicious, as a vegetarian I was spoilt for choice, which is rare and thankfully no pasta as only option!! My husband was equally happy with his chicken main dish. The atmosphere is very good and dogs allowed inside Thurs - Sat Lunch, I think just Sat evening and Sunday they are not allowed inside. Highly recommended, we will return very soon.

We haven't been over to The Bicycle for a while so it was reassuring to find that little had changed. The food was still fantastic and the ambience pleasing. Friendly and efficient service ensures we will keep coming back when we can.

Visited today with my best friend and my son. The service, staff and atmosphere were fantastic. We didn't have starters and all opted for the roast beef, which was out of this world delicious!! Best of all they also did gluten free yorkshires which are hard to get in a lot of other places in the Tendring area. We had the brownies & cheesecake for dessert and all I have to say is wow.

I drove past so many times & kept forgetting to go, finally went & we had such a nice evening. The food was delicious, really well presented & amazing flavours. It's decorated beautifully inside & really cosy. The staff were all so nice, really professional and attentive. I don't usually leave reviews but I had, they fully deserve it.

I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. People have been recommending this for years and we only just got round to a visit. The atmosphere is comfortable, cosy, but special. The staff are absolutely lovely. The food is brilliant - everything was well made and delicious. The menus are extensive and if you like gin there’s a huge range to choose from.

Absolutely loved it attention to detail 2nd to none the food itself was stunning it was warm and cosy. Definitely visiting again my new favourite restaurant, five stars all the way.

From the moment we walked in the restaurant, we was made to feel welcome. The service was excellent as was the food, the hosts Kerry and Brian were lovely and we had a great evening. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a nice "oldy worldly" feeling to it. Kerry & Brian have done establishing a great venue to eat, relax and have fun.

The Bicycle is a great find. The food is fantastic, great combination of flavours. It is easily at the same level as many of the top London restaurants. The owners and staff are friendly and they go the extra mile to make sure you have a great dining experience. Would highly recommend a visit.

First time visiting. What a welcome felt like we were friends let alone customers. The proprietor and his wife were so welcoming. . As for the food it was amazing, have been fortunate to dine at many amazing restaurants but this was outstanding. The staff were so professional and nothing was to much trouble. The menu well, I would be surprised if anyone could not find something they like, we found it hard to make a decision. We would 100% recommend it. We are definitely going make it our go to place for a meal.

Went for the 2nd time this evening, but 1st time with my husband. He described it as the best meal he’s had out for some time and we eat out a lot at very good restaurants. We started with Saviron cheese and parfait, followed by liver and sea bass, then to finish a panacotta and cheesecake. This must be the best restaurant in Essex and has made it into my top 5. Such an amazing restaurant. Never ever lets you down on food. Food is always local and fresh. The service is superb and they are so friendly. Highly recommend

This is an absolute gem and our favourite setting to enjoy lunch or an evening meal - or maybe just to stop by and enjoy a beverage outside in the garden area. The food is exceptional. Generous portions, beautifully presented. We’re always torn with what to try each time. Of course we have our favourite dishes, however we are never disappointed by venturing towards something new. We have never been left waiting between courses and the ingredients have always been to the highest standard. The fish & chips is the best in East Anglia as far as I’m concerned and I believe it was the Bakewell Crumble that brought my husband to tears with joy. The setting is perfect. The decor minimal, yet warm and inviting. All immaculate. The clientele are a pitch above the hoi polloi and the owners and staff are second to none. So efficient, friendly and impeccable with their knowledge and service, it is a pleasure to be in their company. All in all, a real treat and somewhere we always look forward to visiting. Thank you!

I honestly believe that it’s hard to give somewhere 5 stars as eating out is about not only the food but the service and the ambiance. However this fine eatery excels in all three. Recommend if your lucky enough to have it on the menu the night you visit, the goats cheese bruschetta (see picture) or maybe the Eaton mess posset, both are as they say are to die for. Enjoy your food we definitely did.

Wonderful food and an extensive gin menu - easy to park, relaxed atmosphere, very friendly hosts - everything we needed for a perfect evening. Food on offer changes regularly and there is something for everyone. Definitely 5 stars in every way.
