Berwick Inn, Station Road, Berwick, BN26 6SZ Perhaps I was naïve asking for risotto in a small town close to Sorrento only to be told that the dish was not served in that part of Italy. I didn’t believe it then, and I still don’t; but I do believe that the butter-nut squash and sage risotto served at the Berwick Inn is the best I have ever eaten. Not only was it delicious it was a very hearty serving and one to be repeated whenever the opportunity arises. Unbidden, the chef appeared while we were eating and engaged us in a well-seasoned conversation revealing that he had been nurtured in the art of the risotto by an Italian chef. I’m guessing, he / she was not from Sorrento. Make it your first choice. Schroeder24

Brilliant Sunday roast. Had the trio of meats and it was delicious. Lovely big portions and good really well. Washed down with a lovely couple of pints of Harvey’s beer.

We were made very welcome and were very impressed with the menus. Nice selection to suit most palates. We were not disappointed. Fabulous food, beautiful presentation, cleaver mix of flavours, spices etc. We will be back. Highly recommend

Fantastic welcome and brilliant service in a lovely atmospheric space with a wood burner and good seating. They allowed dogs, which was brilliant. The prices are reasonable but unfortunately the food was below par and I'd rather pay more for a decent meal. My family who had the fish were satisfied but my beef roast dinner wasn't good. I don't know why they'd put a circle of waxy stuffing with the beef but it added nothing, although the dog liked it. The beef was ok, chewy and not very flavoursome but the Yorkshire pud wasn't crispy and had no gravy in it. The veg were cold and though both cabbages were crunchy and nicely seasoned, the spuds were reheated, stodgy and not at all crispy outside. The pomegranate pannacotta was a sweet but tasteless blob of wallpaper paste with no wobble at all. Great beer.

Well. My wife and I just had dinner at the Berwick arms. We like the berwick arms. Unfortunately tonight we were on a table next to some Ex Navy "military" as they kept referring to themselves as. Their language (3 males) was disgraceful. My wife pointed out that their constant use of the F and the C bomb were misplaced in a restaurant environment and it ended with a torrent of abuse from a bunch of immature thugs. They threatened me and shouted "where were you in the Falklands" I have to say as a true patriot it made me embarrassed to be British. If this is how our Majesties forces and ex forces behave then it is embarrassing. What a disgraceful representation of our so called elite ROYAL NAVY. How can they have the word ROYAL used to describe them in any way. How would our QUEEN want to be represented by these scum. I am sure that there is not a medal amongst them as they showed no bravery or honour in any shape or form. Shame on you our so called Royal Navy. Luckily I happen to know some other Royal Navy individuals who would never besmirch their position in this way. The management and staff from the Berwick handled the situation really very well and we will be back of course. You cannot be judged by the people that frequent you premises and book your rooms you can only be judged on your service, food and hospitality and your handling of some miscreants that you may encounter along the way. Hence the 5 stars. And rule Britannia means less to me after tonight.

I came here for 2025 burns night with my partner and her father we very much enjoyed the food it was 10 out of 10 especially with a “wee dram” to go along with we found this place online when looking for a burns night with a traditional piper this has honestly been one of the best burns nights I have ever been to will most likely be coming back again next year and would recommend this lovely place to anybody that is thinking of coming you will not be disappointed

Been to this pub several times in the last year. Unfortunately the quality of the food has gradually got worse but today really topped it off as they advertise opening at 10.00am but upon arriving at nearly 11.30am we were abruptly told they dont open till midday and whilst they knew they advertised 10.00am they hadn’t changed this. Much better alternatives in neighboring pubs. We won’t be returning.

Just got back from holiday and had a family meal. Food was lovely and the service was great. It makes such a nice change when the staff are polite, friendly and courteous. Will definitely be returning.

We came here for NYE and it was lovely! Quiet but the staff were very friendly, food was amazing, drinks were perfect and overall a really lovely way to welcome the new year in!

Extremely disappointing. I made this google account just to make this review. Very dirty (definitely need cleaners) chairs, especially as dust was everywhere. staff need more training on basics, especially behind the bar, especially the man who i believe was a manager caring more about his hat than running the place. The beer line didn't look like they've been cleaned for at least 2 weeks or haven't been checked as the taste was just poor. And finally. The food... the pricing is over the place. how god awful it was presented just like a Weatherspoons pub. Waste of time and would prefer to go to my local fast food restaurant for the rest of my life, then ever return to The Berwick Inn.

We enjoyed our Boxing day meal One roast One fish and chips Cosy and friendly service Our 3rd visit and we will be returning again soon . Was a tad disappointed because I was looking forward to having their homemade pie which is delicious but it wasn't on the menu .Never mind .

Work Christmas Party - Dec 2024 We hired The Berwick Inn to host our work Christmas party and we couldn't have been happier! Everything went so well. From the organisation, the food, the staff and very cosy Christmassy atmosphere. Zoe coordinated the party and she was so enthusiastic and came up with some lovely ideas for us to do on the night. She's a real asset to the pub. The chef put together a fantastic menu with yorkshire pudding wraps and a dessert buffet - all our employees are still talking about it over a week later! Everyone working on the night joined in with the festive cheer, welcomed our employees with festive drinks and generally made the night a success. The pub also helped us to organise the entertainment - Jonny Lewis - who performed a mix of music and got everyone dancing. I honestly couldn't recommend the pub enough for your parties. They really look after you and take any of the stress of organising away. Thank you Berwick Inn!

The Berwick Inn is an amazing place to visit whether its in the summer for there big garden or for a meal! We came here for Christmas dinner and was not disappointed as the roast was very impressive and the desert was second to none! Will definitely be going again and i highly recommend coming here if your new to the area or not!

Stopped here after completing the pilgrim's walk around the surrounding countryside. This place is a quaint local pub, well kept and maintained with a cosy and traditional country pub decor. The staff were engaging, friendly and efficient and the coffee was just what was needed after a long run. I didn't personally have one but the Sunday roasts look generously portioned and delicious and lots of customers were enjoying them. Pricing seemed fair and the toilets were clean.

OMG it’s not a hotel Bar shut at 10 As guests we were told to go to bed at 11 No choice as middle of nowhere ! Train noise from 5am keeps you awake ! Otherwise lovely 😡

Held a celebration for our mum's 60th birthday this afternoon/eve. Lovely tasty food. Great friendly service with smiles. Beautiful interior with a cosy warm feeling. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding.

Went here today and they did me a veggie gluten free roast, it was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Cheap as chips for a good slap up Sunday lunch, even came with free extra gravy. Service was lovely, food was good, and cheap.

Very nice place. Welcome break when on foot and the torrential rain increased in volume. Staff were magnificent throughout. Rooms nice. Quality food and good menu options for all meals. Good selection of beers, wine and drinks in general. Large beer garden. Pleasant place to be, and where the Vanguard Way hike was thought up, under the pub's previous name - the Fullers Arms.

This afternoon my family had a fabulous meal out the pub! The girls serving were friendly helpful always smiling. Great atmosphere 👌 also no sticky tables! Really like that it's also dog friendly

From the moment we walk in., the welcoming and friendly atmosphere was a good start considering our previous experience on same day just before coming here. Lots of choices n food and we really enjoyed our meal and the service we had from Jay. Jay was very calm considering it was becoming a busy evening and have to say he was still ver very attentive and polite..

Nice respectable place you could take your family. I ordered the scotch egg and it was absolutely superb, I will be going back just for this reason alone!!

This is second time I have cause for remarking the quality of yr beef the last couple times been at yours, We loved your Thursday pies, but no longer. You are using either cheaper meat or not trimming it sufficiently well thus quite sinewy, keeping price of the dish low. Gravy an pastry excellent.

Probably the worst meal I’ve eaten at a restaurant in a very long time. We ordered the special pie of the day, it was supposed to be Turkey, gammon with pigs in blankets, mash and vegetables. They ran out of pigs in blankets and our meal was served up with no offer to change options, they apologised they were missing but no substitute offered, the meat in the pie was dried up so badly the edges were solid, crispy and barely edible, the flavour was just pure salt, it was revolting, one of us had pastry on the bottom of the pie and one didn’t. The only part of the meal that was edible was the mash potato, the broccoli was old and half yellow discoloured and not fresh. They messed up the drinks order and gave my mum a flavoured lemonade as they didn’t understand what bitter lemon is. We had to order a pint of water after eating just to try and get rid of the salt taste from the pie. I have continued to drink water since getting home as I can’t get the salt taste gone, it’s made both of us feel quite unwell. We couldn’t have a dessert as the main course made us feel so awful. This was a birthday meal out which made it even more disappointing. The staff service was friendly but the staff ignored our complaint about the pie being way too salty and no discount offered for missing sausages, and no offer to put things right. It ruined my mums Birthday and she went home very disappointed.

ONLY CAME HERE FOR A FAMILY LUNCH Food, hit and miss - Some food was very good whilst others in the group received average food. Staff, above average - Service with a smile and visibly happy to attend to your needs. Pub, in need of a revamp - Areas of pub are very dark, we were lucky to be seated by a window.

After a lovely walk around the Reservoir we finished off with lunch at the Berwick Inn. Superb service, so friendly, food excellent~ couldn't resist the Banoffee Pie! Very clean tables...not an old sticky plank of wood! Cosy atmosphere with twinkly lights and decor. Perfect finish to our Ramble!

Stopped for lunch before walking around the reservoir. Sat outside and noticed that some of the chairs were very tatty. It can be noisy outside with the train line next door. A limited range of real ales with only Harveys available and that had only just been put on when we arrived. The food was good and reasonably priced. The service was good but not outstanding. Overall an OK visit and handy for the station.

Went for a meal tonight with a friend. The food was fantastic, service was excellent. Really could not fault it. Lovely friendly staff.

We turned up on a busy bank holiday without a reservation... just took a chance. We were able to sit in the garden and we're prepared for a long wait due to the volume of customers. However, the food was served in good time by a very friendly member of staff. A good, hearty tasty roast with a lovely selection of veggies.

We came for a meal. Told there was half an hour wait! 40 minutes later I went to enquire, our meals had been mislaid, no apology from management but apology from chef via waitress and food arrived 52 minutes after ordered. It was delicious but...

10 family members went for a birthday lunch. We ordered a variety of ciabatta sandwiches,squid,pork belly,burger,bruschetta, Caesar salad and chips. All arrived promptly and were really fresh,well cooked,beautifully presented and above all,tasty. We were lucky enough to be there on a sunny day, so we ate in the garden,which is lovely. Inside would be very nice too. All the staff are great Thanks so much,we really enjoyed it.

Nice pub garden to rest your feet after an 8 mile circular walk. Very handy for Berwick station.

Had a short stay at the Berwick inn returning from a motorcycle trip in Europe, I arrived fairly late as the ferry from France landed late but this wasn't an issue. Room was very comfortable and service great. I had a delicious English (Berwick) breakfast with an excellent coffee too.

Great place to grab a drink. Food is good. Sometimes can get very busy and is a wait for food. Not always enough bar staff. But the staff are very lovely and friendly.

A nice place for a 'pub lunch' with friendly, attentive service. At the time of writing this review, the pub's website only showed a rather uninspired menu, but we were pleasantly surprised with the actual menu, which also included a number of appetising specials of the day.

I took two friends there for lunch, on a Friday. Lovely old building with lots of seating in the garden, some of it under cover, and a childrens play area. Fast and very friendly service, with great food.

Came here for an Easter Sunday dinner, amazing service and amazing food. Probably the best roast dinner I have had! Will be coming here again!

We came for mother's day yesterday with our 4-year old daughter, and from the minute we stepped inside, the staff were all amazingly helpful and friendly, even though I can imagine it was a completely insane day for them. The food was also delicious, and we will definitely be back in the future. It was definitely one of the best pub roasts I've had in a very long time. The beef and the lamb we had were cooked to perfection, and they were very generious helpings of both meat and veg! The starters and desserts were also delicious, and with dessert, the staff were super accommodating as miss 4 years old heard me say I was going to have the apple crumble, so she wanted in on that too even though it wasn't on the kids menu. The staff were happy to help. I know I keep coming back to the staff, but they were truly brilliant and we never felt forgotten, even though it was super busy. A very well-oiled machine and I can't wait to come back!

Stopped here for lunch. Service was really friendly and professional. The food was reasonably priced and really very nice. It is on our list to visit again in the near future. By the way, whilst you are eating they also have an excellent range of beers on offer. Try to get seated by the fire, very cosy.

Delicious food (no pics unfortunately was too busy eating) - between us we had a variety from full roasties with big fluffy Yorkshire and crispy roast potatoes to salmon, to scotch egg and chips ... everyone was complimentary, then desert was Banofee pies, Baileys and white chocolate cheesecakes and Berwick crumbles with "perfect" custard. Suoer friendly and efficient service and just a stones throw from a wander round Arlington reservoir. A great pick for your lunch 😋.

Really happy to give The Berwick Inn a 5-star rating. Myself and my child (who has complex needs - this is relevant to the review) came in very wet from a long walk hoping for a bit of lunch before the journey home. All the staff were super welcoming - big smiles and hellos - I explained that we needed somewhere calm and super quiet to sit (they were pretty busy) - 'Sally' suggested a table in the corner but when I said I didn't think that would work she was just really positive and said would we like to have sole use of their cafe which is only opened up at breakfast time. It was a thoughtful solution that worked really well. I was impressed that the pub had a decent choice of vegetarian/vegan meals and we both enjoyed a really delicious lunch, the staff were really chilled with my child's interests - eg. moving their furniture around & organising the bins :) - and we thoroughly enjoyed our positive, calm and inclusive experience there. (NB: We don't tend to eat out much because our experience of other places as a family has sometimes sadly been quite the opposite).

This is a place I love. However today was disappointing hence just two stars. The staff are great and speed of service at busy times remarkable good. However reason for low marks today is I ordered the Mediterranean Vegetable Pithivier. It was best described as pitiful. Really very sad. It wasn't a pie but more like a thin pasty with miniscule filling. I was eating with 3 friends who all had a substantive beef roast. I mentioned I was disappointed when it arrived and they did to their credit offer to change but as it was the only veggie roast and would have delayed the meal. Any way really hope the chef and managers read reviews and either ensure a proper more substantive pie is cooked or replace the pithivier with another vegetarian dish like a nut roast or veg wellington. We do like the place and have given 5 star reviews before so will continue to visit but might ask for clearer description of what is going to be in a particular dish.

I am irate right now! The chicken Parma was not up to my MEDIUM expectations, how dare someone do this, I am irate right now. I could see the HAM. No person should ever see the ham on their chicken Parma the ham should be slathered in tomato sauce. And the cheese (some say the most important part of the Parma) was not golden with specks of brown (like it should be), it was thrown on top like some maniac made it. And don't even get me started on the chips, and since no one got me started, I won't start on the chips. But other than that I have no complaints.

We went to this pub in the summer for a drink and sat outside. So, when we went for a drive the other day we went in there again. The atmosphere is electric as it is so cosy, and the staff are friendly. We did not eat but the food looked good and there was a lot of people having lunch. They asked if we had booked a table and when we said no, they found us a table anyway. Lovley places I would recommend.

An absolute beauty of a restaurant, cannot fault, the waiters were nice and welcoming especially the one you was on training. The food cannot be described with words bound on Earth. Thank you for such an experience.

I called in here during Storm Ciaran for a coffee, I was told I could not use the car park or have a coffee as they only sold meals and the manager would 'go ballistic' if he saw I had parked there. It was just before 12 noon, the car park was completely deserted as was the restaurant. I was directed to a car park opposite which turned out to be a staff car park when I got there. I have recently been very ill so left the Berwick Inn in tears as the woman who appeared to be in charge was so rude and there was no welcome at this Inn even in exceptional circumstances. I have been to this Inn in the past in better times and I am very upset at the manner in which I was treated. Appalling rudeness and behaviour.

This pub is beautiful! It's a lovely location and it is so wonderfully decorated... its cosy,warm,inviting - lovely lights and fire place!! The menu is fantastic! They cater for vegetarians, vegan, GF and more. Great choice - delicious and nutritional! Really good quality!! They have specials and great deals! The staff I've met are always so lovely, bubbly and 'on it'! Special shout out to Zoe and Hazel who served us!! And thank you to The chef for making my vegan/gf dinner so incredible!! I recommend the banana blossom (vegan fish and chips)! Just try!!! Thanks to the Berwick Inn! See you soon!! Xxx

I came to this pub to eat a nice juicy burger we got sat down quickly staff were nice wide variety in drinks not so much food mostly roast dinners would come again

We stopped here for lunch only, lovely food, very friendly staff and plenty of parking, diffently would go back. They have no alcohol beer, which makes a change from orange juice.

Took my granddaughter there for her birthday the food was lovely the staff were amazing. I would recommend it to everyone Went back for Halloween quiz it was really great, have been for breakfast the food was wonderful. Just been for their first quiz of the new year Johnny is just the best quiz master ever. This the only pub I go too.

Fantastic pub by the Berwick Train station, we love the menu choices available for Lunch and Dinner. Second visit and definitely be back soon.

Dropped in here after a frustrating experience at one location 15 miles away at Beachy Head & discounted other possibilities on the way. Both specials & à la carte were a degree limited but we opted for the cheeseburger. At £14.50 more than a degree over-priced. Service was good, quick & friendly, otherwise the star rating would have been 2. Other diners too were commenting on the limited menu choice. Gastro pub it is no longer

We dined here for a birthday celebration and were blown away by the food - some of the best ‘pub grub’ we’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere and staff were super welcoming. Highly recommend.

We had the most delicious meal - great variety of dishes. They catered to my allergies (gluten, dairy, onion and garlic free) - multiple options available for me. The staff were attentive and made the evening very enjoyable. Atmosphere also good. Highly recommend.
