The Bells Steakhouse in Barnsley

Yesterday was our first visit to The Bells and it will not be the last. The service and the restaurant were top class, the food was delicious. I don’t usually do reviews but The Bells deserve a really good review for quality, and service. We shall be returning very soon

Took 14 members of my family for pre Chritmas dinner, and we had a fantastic time. The meal was excellent, and the service could not be faulted. Good value for money and pleasant decor.

Absolutely brilliant food and service. Very good value for money. Complements to the chef and staff.

Lovely restaurant, serving amazing fish and chips. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Only down side was no on site parking but there was plenty of road side space.

Table of 12 and not a single complaint other than a slight delay on a children’s meal, really delicious and well presented food and good choice of drinks. This was our second visit and there will be many more 😊

This is a lovely country pub. Excellent food and really pleasant and helpful staff. Parking can be a problem. And I don't know why there's never many people in .

What a gem The Bells Restaurant is. We had a family get-together yesterday afternoon. The food was great, our grand children, two and four scoffed the lot with great gusto, the service was spot on the decor and ambiance, with the roaring fire was fabulous. We'll done the Bells management and staff. All thistles than five minutes walk from our house. My wife and I highly recommend The Bells Restaurant. p.s. the prices were reasonable too.

Called in for lunch. We had food from the lunch specials menu lots to choose from. Right sized portions. Service was great. Lovely welcome we will definitely be returning.

2 for £12 menu is really good value for money. Top quality food, excellent presentation. I'm intending on being quite a regular. Mushrooms on toast starter were really good 😋

I sometimes pop in here for Sunday Lunch - always a perfect plate of food, served with a smile. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s certainly not the cheapest, but certainly one of the best in the area.

Good food, only disappointed that the board said two meals from the classic menu for £30 including two drinks, but on enquiring we were told that it was an October offer and we went 29th September. If it's not available why advertise it???

Has potential to be lovely but the price is not reflective of the quality of the food. The potatoes (their spelling) bravas is just tata tots. The prawns were pale and bland The squid was also bland. Shame as menu looks amazing and service was decent.

First visit but definitely not the last!! Went for an evening meal, received a warm welcome from staff on arrival, the decor was lovely and we were shown immediately to our table which was in a quiet spot…. Perfect for my husband and I. We thoroughly enjoyed our food which included Scampi, Creamy Mushrooms on brioche, fillet steak, amazing chips with the biggest mushroom I’ve ever seen ha ha!!, salmon fillet with new potatoes and vegetables all cooked to perfection! Desserts were a gorgeous Biscoff cheesecake (although I exchanged the sorbet for pouring cream and was surprised it still arrived on a flat slate rather than a dish…. It made things quite difficult pouring the cream over the cheesecake but…. I can think outside the box and managed lol), talking to our waitress I mentioned we were there celebrating my husbands birthday, and his lovely Eton Mess came complete with a lit candle in it. What a nice surprise. Caitlin was our waitress all night and was superb, she looked after us, very friendly throughout and chatted with us about the food on the menu. The cocktails and wines were great, the food was presented extremely well and so tasty. Drinks only, may be ok on a more social night

Went for a meal with the family, nobody in but us and some children screaming around us which was a bit annoying when trying to have a relaxing meal. The food we had for the price was pretty average, for example the £8 small slice of cheesecake didn't taste homemade or fresh. A young gentleman was hospitable but another young girl was more unfriendly, seeming very pushy for us to leave, asking several times if we wanted anything else yet at 8PM despite it being so early and us only being in for 1 hour! Probably won't be visiting again unfortunately as we didn't feel it was good value for money with the food or experience.

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent surroundings and very friendly Staff. Varied and big interesting menu too.

We are very lucky to have this on our doorstep. We go every week at least once and on the weekend for Sunday lunch. The lunchtime special of 2 courses for £12 is a great bargain. There's always plenty of choice & It's dog friendly too. What's not to like!!

Had a fantastic evening here recently. The meal was delicious, well presented and top quality at a good price. The cocktails were also excellent. The staff were outstanding and very friendly. Would definitely come back again.

Fantastic welcome. It seemed we’d booked a table later than usual but it was only when I asked I was informed. We weren’t turned away but were welcomed, we’ve been a few times and the food is always superb. The staff are so pleasant, polite and helpful. Nothing is a bother, they’re superb. The food is beautiful, always is faultless so thank you chef and thank you staff. See you next time.

We found this little gem last minute whilst staying in the local area. The service was excellent from the moment we walked through the door. The house wine was very well priced and very tasty. We went on a Sunday and my husband had the roast dinner which was very large and very tasty. My mother-in-law had the pie, which could only be described as a 'proper' pie. I had the confit duck leg, which fell off the bone and had lovely sides and a delicious plum and port reduction. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Very nice proper pub with homemade food ! We went as a group and the service was A1 and the food arrived quickly and fresh very nice decor happy me!

Booked a table last-minute via a Google search enroute to Sheffield, and how lucky were we that we were already close! A 10min drive off the M1, the quality and quantity of portions we just wonderful and exactly the selection and variety you would expect from a higher grade of venue in a snazzy city centre bistro area. Would 100% recommend a visit and will be back as full value for money. Miller & Carter eat your heart out!!😆

Called in for the first time since the current owners took over for an impromptu early evening meal for 2. Sat outside. A very reasonable selection of tasty choices on both the standard menu and specials list. Attentive and engaging service from the waiter. Food served was delicious and nicely presented.Thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Prefer it in its current format to when it was a specialist steakhouse pre-2019.

Lovely pub! Really warm and welcoming atmosphere. We really enjoyed our dinner and stopped after for a few drinks. The outside area is really nice too.

Food was absolutely amazing but let down by a member of staff if I remember rightly her name was Sally the way she speaks to staff and customers in her condescending manner is appalling. She shouldn't be working in an established pud bar grill like your own as the vibe I got from her is that she just doesn't care.

I loved the food and the service was excellent but the one thing that let our visit down was the music, it was too loud. It is still well worth a visit just make sure you are not near the speakers.

Terrible service, would not recommend or go back. After being seated no one came to take drinks orders, we had to fetch staff. We waited over an hour before getting a starter and another hour before main was served. Food itself was lovely , except finding plastic in my main, so a shame service was so bad. We had very little apology (this only came after complaining) no explanation until the end of the evening on paying (we found out a chef had been off). We should have been informed about the wait upon arrival. Children from the next table were running around and the atmosphere was very loud as we were surrounded by parties who had been drinking alot. We did not receive anything off the bill despite having plastic in one meal and no incentive to go back again (money off another meal or free drink for example). We were all very disappointed particularly as it was supposed to be a nice birthday meal, unfortunately completely ruined.

Called on Sunday the food was bang on the staff well they had a sense of humour we had all three courses and there was nothing to complain about I'd recommend this place to anyone go you won't be disappointed 👍

Lovely Sunday lunch - massive Yorkshire puds!!

Visited today with my friend and kids, we all had Sunday lunch which was lovely, massive kids portions. Service was great, good value for money, will certainly be back!!

Friendly staff and very nice food I had the ribs and chicken, very tasty. We also had the chicken supreme and pizza all very nice and good value and quick service.

Amazing food, we were blown away with how tasty the Sunday roast was, the amount of food we got, and how perfectly it was all cooked. We also got a side of chips, which were next level good. The quality of the food and value for money were exceptional. Service was fantastic too, fast and friendly throughout. We honestly can’t fault our experience here, and will be back very soon to try more from the menu!

Tonight was our 2nd visit to the Bells where we had chicken supreme and cheeseburger and fries, with salt and pepper squid for a starter. All homemade food and was absolutely delicious. Very tasty, nicely presented and cooked well. We decided to go back following our first visit when we both had the steak pie, chips and mushy peas, again all fresh home cooked food. The first time we visit a new place we sample the pies and rate them against others. We put these pies at the top of our leader board, they were very tasty, plenty of meat, veg and gravy in the filling and the pastry was lovely, not to thick and proportionate to the filling. I was tempted to have it again for my 2nd visit but was spoilt for choice with so many other nice dishes on the menu. We will definitely be back, this is our new favourite place for date night. We came here with friends in September last year and enjoyed it. Last night, my wife and I returned and it really wasn't good. May I say first of all, the Staff who met us and took our order were friendly and professional. However, it went downhill after that. We had to move tables because we were cold, the whole restaurant was cold. The Staff said it was fine to move tables. We ordered our food but, people who came in after us were being served while there was still no sign of our meals? When we questioned this they told us it was because we'd moved tables? When our Starters arrived it was obvious that my wife's Salmon Parfait wasn't right, it smelled and she was worried that the Salmon was off. When she sent it back she was told that it was made from Smoked Salmon and thats why it smelled so strong, she assumed that we didn't know what Smoked Salmon was??? They wanted my wife to eat it even though it wasn't right? To be fair, they offered to make her something else but we'd waited so long already that we just shared mine? We both ordered Steak Pie. When we cut into the Pie, we found that it had three small pieces of meat inside and the rest was carrots and mushrooms, it could have almost been a vegetarian option? The Pie was served with peas and approximately seven chips? The pie cost £15? It was awful. We didn't eat it and sent it back. We called for the taxi to pick us up earlier than planned and left. Obviously, they didn't charge us for the food and they apologised. So, massively disappointed, we thought that we had found somewhere decent to go but we are not going back.

One of my friends shared a post about their lunchtime special menu Wednesday to Friday 12 till 4 pm two courses for £12. the photographs of their food look delicious so I decided to book a table treat my mum. We were not disappointed. Good choice of dishes sensible sized portions all cooked fresh. Absolutely delicious, the staff were incredibly friendly too, lovely warm atmosphere with two cozy fires blazing away. what more could you ask for. Thank you so much for a very pleasant afternoon.

Went for a meal, absolutely gorgeous would go again

What a beautiful place. Everything tip top and the toilets wow! We visited for Sunday lunch and it was excellent, as was the service. Started with the pate, followed by the beef with Yorkshire pud. No room for a pudding but maybe next time.

Visited with my mum & son yesterday for Sunday lunch. Couldn’t fault a thing. The staff were great, really friendly & accommodating. The pate & brioche was lovely & the beef was really nice (served pink) with plenty of veg & a giant Yorkshire pudding. My son had a cheeseburger & chips & said it was great. Will definitely visit again.

Excellent food and service. We had king prawn sweet chilli and sourdough with humours and dipping oil followed by 2 hanging kebabs, 1 chicken and chorizo and 1 Hallumi. Great atmosphere and immaculate inside. Contemporary modern feel, all in all and absolute gem. Highly recommended.

We were the first to be seated for lunch. Nice log fire in the bar area, imitation log fire in the restaurant area. I say restaurant as this place is elevated above a country pub which is reflected in the prices. £2 to £5 above....

Every time we go we are never disappointed. Always amazing food, polite and happy service. Love the chicken kebabs, the meat pies and the martini's are perfection 🥰. Can't recommend high enough.

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time. A lot of places these days you turn up without a booking and they look at you like you’ve come down from Mars in a spaceship. Turned up here and we were seated and eating within 15mins. Roast beef was pink and juicy, with heritage carrots, red cabbage in a red wine jus, roast potatoes, cauliflower, leek, and a big Yorkshire pudding. Beer was a Yorkshire bitter from local Darton “Nail Maker” brewery - a traditional session bitter that was like the marketing says “deliciously quaffable”.

Had a tapas meal here and loved it. Nice inside and outside. Staff were friendly. I liked the beer and the wife loved the cocktails. Very enjoyable

They managed to fit us in very last minute with a table in the bar for us and our dog - our food was amazing, and reasonably priced for the quality and presentation.

If that is not the best Sunday lunch Yorkshire, Noooo best in country….. pls tell me where? Absolutely absolutely delicious ! Can’t recommend enough.

Visited the Bells with family . The food was ‘ ok ‘ for pub food but doesn’t warrant the fine dining prices . Menu is limited and quite basic which is ok if it’s cooked well and using good quality produce but taste and presentation...

Had a family meal (8 people) here and was disappointed. We live locally and have eaten at the Bells many times, albeit when it was the former Steak House. Nice setting but the food was mediocre at best, hence the 3 stars. Had prawns to start (5 prawns) which were tasty but very small. I then had then ribeye steak - it was more like a flat iron steak and was so thin it would have been impossible to cook to my liking (medium rare). Chips were insipid and required another cook. My son had chicken and ribs and he said they were really dry. Best choice were the burgers, so maybe this place is part of the McDonalds franchise and not the bistro that it claims to be.

My son and I enjoyed a really tasty meal, enhanced by the friendliness of the staff. We would highly recommend eating here and will be returning in the near future.

We just had an impromptu dinner here and loved it! The Pinot Grigio Blush from Italy was very good, the garlic prawns and Piri-piri chicken was sensational. Followed by the Beyond Meat Burger. Great service and a calm place to be. Thanks.

We have just moved to the area and was pleased to have a pub just down the road. Very presently surprised by this little gem 💎 so close to home, inside is nice and cosy and outside is very pretty with is hanging lights. We have sat inside and out and staff have always been attentive and friendly and the food was very tasty, will definitely be a regular of ours and they do a take away menu too!!

We were camping nearby and stopped by for food twice during our stay. Pleasant atmosphere and three good vegan main course options on the menu. The Massaman curry was very good.

Atmosphere good, service good, starter excellent (pork belly bites), wine beautiful (Malbec). Unfortunately I was not impressed with the main meal. I had ribeye steak which was chewy and had gristle, there was very little peppercorn sauce and it was bland, and the mushrooms came already cold (they were my first bite of the dish). Very over priced for the quality. I have had a much better steak from my local butcher at a quarter of the price. I think three stars is fair and we will not return.

The Bells was taken over before covid , and revamped with a new menu and we visited once before lock down .......it was very very good.... Over the last few weeks we have been a couple of times up till Christmas and it did not...

Fantastic lunch, excellent attentive service, the only issue was hardly any diners because of covid. You need to support excellent places like this or they cannot survive. Go dine there, I cannot recommend it more highly!!
