It's better than brilliant. Great service. Food was better than awesome. Steak was cooked to perfection (Butchers Block), along with the chips... Faultless. What a brilliant evening. It's impossible to be disappointed here... Loved it. All the other dishes served to our table looked perfect, too...

Didn't manage to dine; telephoned three times to make a booking to be told 'the book doesn't go that far.' When I tried for the fourth time I was told: 'Oh we are closed on that day!!!' Frustrating and a waste of my time 🤨

What an amazing find this was. Amazing Sunday Roast and fudge cake, service was brilliant as they found us a seat even though they were fully booked. Nice quiet atmosphere and child friendly. Can't wait to be back!

A very warm welcome is always assured, staff very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food is absolutely top notch, Johnny (chef) always visits every table to establish likes and dislikes and then makes recommendations. Prices are very reasonable for the standard of food that is served. TIP - if the tiffin box is on the specials, please order it as it's out of this world.

Just had my first visit and have to say the food and service were both excellent. Had the belly pork which was superb followed by homemade brownie. Will be back.

It’s a Wierd one - the chief can cook no doubt about it… the food was lovely … surroundings and service are rustic…needs some craft beer/belgian beer (even if it’s in cans/bottles). Surroundings let it down - would I go again? Time will tell.

We went here as a family today, there were nine of us for lunch the food arrived looking fresh and hot. The staff were attentive and helpful. Would definitely go again whenever the opportunity arises.

Had Sunday lunch, best I've ever had. I had beef and hubby had pork, they both melted in your mouth. Would highly recommend 👌 was busy but were served by pleasant staff.

Came for a lovely meal last night. Had never been before but had heard great things. They did not disappoint we had gone for a meal for two that we won on a Facebook competition. When we arrived we looked at the menu and had an idea of what we might like but we’re blown away when the chef came and gave such a personal service - asking us what we like so he could prepare something to our taste. My husband had a beef wellington cooked to perfection and I had a fusion of foods to suit the tastes I had described. Thank you for a lovely and memorable evening.

6 of us went for a family meal, there is a good selection on the Menu. Four had steaks that were cooked to perfection, one had chicken pasta and I had Beef Wellington which was delicious. The staff were very friendly and efficient, checking that everything was OK and that we had drinks. The Chef also came to check that everything was alright. Drinks prices were very reasonable, in fact, we couldn't fault anything. We will definitely be back. Thanks you.

Great dining experience. Just had a lovely Sunday roast beef dinner. Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, mash and roasted potatoes, peas mashed carrot, onion gravy and an extra side of cauliflower cheese. Large portions, plenty of beef too. The staff are friendly and fast. Place is clean and tidy. 100% recommended.

Had Sunday Lunch , the meal was served and I had to ask for cutlery and napkins , the food was mediocre, I went on recommendations very disappointing .

I took my wife out for Date night. i booked a few days before for a Friday evening meal and although they were full, they managed to squeeze me in. This was a very kind gesture. We arrived 10 minutes early to have a drink before dinner and no sooner as we got our drinks, we were shown to our table. As told when we booked, the restraunt was full. The ambience was full of chatter and laughter from all diners, creating a very nice and tranquil atmosphere. We didnt have to wait long before our food was taken, with a wide choice on the menu and specials board to choose from. The food did not disappoint for both of us, with generous portion sizes. compliments to the Chef and his staff for a wonderful evening. We will be going back.

My son took me for my Birthday on 16th December, it was a lovely evening. The food was excellent, my Son and my Husband had the Butchers Block, wow what a feast that was, I had the Japanese stir fry, and I think it was probably the best stir fry I had ever had. We also took my 18 month old grandson and he was welcomed with open arms (not the case everywhere), the staff were brilliant with him and they couldn't do enough for us. We shall definitely be returning and I would highly recommend it for a lovely casual evening out.

Best steak in barnsley! The steak absolutely melted in my mouth! Service was impeccable! Jonny and becky and so friendly and make you feel like one of the family. My daughter (who is a super picky eater) ate every mouthful and I’m sure this was down to to hospitality displayed by super hostess and hoist Jonny and becky could not recommend this amazing establishment more!!!!

We are actually regular patrons of the Bistro, and have left reviews before, but not recently . So we had booked for Saturday night and pre-ordered the Chateaubriand .We were met at the door when we arrived and greeted cordially then shown to our table. The waitress took our wine order which was served promptly. The owner came to the table for a word and to ask about extras with our order. The meal came a short time later and was Superb, cooked to perfection. A thoroughly pleasant experience throughout as we have come to expect. full marks everyone.

We enjoyed a stunning meal last night at the bistro. There were four of us and we all ordered a different meal off the menu with starters. Each dish was outstanding. Great ingredients freshly cooked and piping hot! The waitress that served us was very friendly too. Will definitely be back again.

Fabulous place to eat. The food was excellentas was the attentive service staff efficiency and friendliness. We were a party of 10, out for a Christmas meal! We booked both our table and food in advance a d it consisted of a number of didmfferent meal. All of the meals were stunning, and the service and timings were spot on. It was a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were lovely. If you haven't tried here before you need to. It's a gem of a place.

Shocking food over cooked .potions been reduced.missed items. Poor respond to my guests from chef actually disrespectful price different from on line to paying in restaurant. Wrote to chef to sort out from 22nd Nov 23 and guess what to Saturday still no reply gather unprofessional

Went for Sunday dinner as a group of 9 from age 3 to 70s! One of the party is cealiac and confirmed prior to booking what was suitable. The portions were very generous and everyone loved this beautiful cooked food. I am not a fan of Sunday dinner and had a curry oh wow it was absolutely amazing and I am such a fussy eater. Will definitely be back what a hidden gem

50th birthday celebration.. party of 14 people... been here loads of times nights out and Sunday lunches.. never faulted food or staff until now.. the butchers block is prime cuts of meat and you get loads of meat , last time I ordered it I probably wasted more that I'd eaten.. so this time I decided me and my partner would share one and get other sides too.. we'd already had 2 pints of cider and just opened a bottle of red wine... when the waitress took our food order... within seconds Johnny the owner came over saying ""the butchers block is only for 1 person"" going on to say it should state that on the menu but doesn't... and the speech about he's only making £7 on our meal for two.. So £18 for the wine,, £9 for two pints and we're all out for a meal... OK he said I'll do it just this once!!! Johnny usually comes around and asks how the food was.. but not this time nor around 14 guests.. our food bill with all the sides was £48.80 plus drinks =£75.80 for a meal out.. but he was saying he only made £7 off us.. Very disappointed with his attitude and definitely won't be returning ever again due to this... he probably took £500+ off our party.. and he ranted on about £7 profit!!!.. thanks for your very nice food over the years, but I'll and our friends will never return..

£35 for a huge plate of prime cut, 4 different steaks and home cooked fries. Simply amazing. If this place was in Leeds it would have a Michelin star Well worth the drive from Bradford

Excellent service, first class starter (garlic mushrooms),had beef in Yorkshire puddings for main meal , the beef was first class,but unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings tasted very wet had they have been a little crisper would have given at least another star, maybe next time,

What an fabulous home cooked meal we had, really enjoyed it! Delicious roast meats with all the trimmings, served with lashings of gravy and giant yorkies, whats not to like! Staff were lovely and efficient and the quality of food was outstanding. Best roast we have had in ages, thank you all!

Just returned from having Sunday Lunch here . I had beef Sunday lunch & my other half had Lasagne & chips . It was easy to book a table, I used fbook messenger & they replied really quickly and were able to accommodate us at short notice . I would highly recommend this place delicious food , friendly service and good value for money .

We arrived as a family of 6 adults and 5 kids for what we was told is “best sunday dinner” This is a lie! All our meals came out a different times, hardly anything on our plates (half a broccoli stem) a few peas n sloppy mash. The meat looked like left overs. Yorkshire puddings burnt and un able to eat as they were that black. Really disappointed in the service too as we had no cutlery and had to ask many times for some, the staff are not the best. Overall very disappointed and defiantly over priced for what you’re expected to have on a sunday lunch.

Had a wonderful meal for my mums birthday last week, the food was absolutely delicious. I opted for the pie and the beef was so tender it was cooked to perfection. Will 100% be returning, the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough. The chef did rounds to check the food was cooked to liking at the different table. Thankyou!

I can only comment on the food I ordered as this is the first time I've been to the Bistro, I was greeted by a pleasant member of staff who took my niece and myself to our seats when we had decided on order a 12oz rib eye steak was the choice for both .we ordered it with home cooked chips side salad and onion rings. Well at this point the chef came to our table to ask how we wanted our steak cooked, we decided to have it medium but asked the chef the best way to have it he suggested we have it just this side of medium to rare .when it arrived there was a bounty of food ,but let me tell you never have I tasted a piece of meat like this .I put a piece of steak into my mouth and started to eat ,I closed my eyes in bliss as the flavour burst into mouth and all I could say was wow ,this was the best steak I have ever eaten and the home cooked chips were a perfect companion to this meal.I will definitely be eating here again the only complaint is that I didn't leave room for a sweet .

We have been told to try it for ages by friends who said it has great reviews. We tend not to follow trends or get influenced by arbitrary fads. We have now tried for ourselves with friends and I must say I was very impressed. The waiting staff was very professional and attentive, the chef was indeed genuinely concerned if we were enjoying our meals. The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful. I had the beef and it was very tender and succulent accompanied with an excellent Chimichurri. All the other guests enjoyed theirs too, very much. The wine was excellent too. Overall, a great place to try. My new favourite restaurant in Barnsley. So if my preferences can entice someone else to give it a go, great, try it for yourselves. You will not be disappointed.

Oh my days!! Best meal ever! Travelled from Bradford for the famous beef wellington and it did not disappoint. The garlic mushrooms to start....yummy. can't wait to go back.

We expecting big things here reading previous but didn’t live up to expectations unfortunately. Table of young lads at back of room talking and laughing so loud the whole meal was dominated by their drunken stupid overprotected voices. Not the restaurants fault but part of our experience. We ordered fish pakora starter and mushrooms - fish pakoras were pretty nice. The mushrooms came with the bread already steeped under the sauce and the bread itself seemed very insufficient for the amount of mushrooms sauce provided. Sure could do better with a piece of crusty bread or something. The mains. I got the chicken curry - personal preference I know but had no heat whatsoever did taste nice with lots of coriander just not really a curry. Mrs got the filled yorkshire puddings. The roast potatoes were borderline raw. Hot but raw through, you could see this just by looking at them. The food came out around 2 minutes after we ordered perhaps leave in the cooker until they are cooked. All felt a bit rushed. The cutlery provided was dirty we didn’t use the knives as they had baked on old food on them. I’m sure they would of happily replaced them if asked but it’s not the point. It wasn’t bad food by any means just not particularly good. Wouldn’t revisit.

Seriously.... Don't be put off by the outside,one of the best family meals we have all had. None of us had any complaints and every one of us thoughroughly enjoyed our dinners and deserts. Catch of the day was lovely and the steaks was one of if not the best.
