The Bellingham Hotel in Wigan

Very rude staff I'm assuming as they were closed down they had just lost all kindness towards their customers staff walked round in big outdoor coats as if they were not staying...... If staying open I would not recommend the service Recieved.

Shocking choice if food place was empty when we went in for a bite to eat we left nearly right away because the atmosphere was none existant

No central heating was provided throughout my one week stay, no WiFi (it wouldn't connect), no food heating services or fridge in the room, no breakfast provided either. 2 stars are for the bedding and room cleanliness that was maintained.

Family friends wedding reception was held in this hotel, great venue😁

I last visited the restaurant here fifteen years ago or so. I was disappointed when I arrived at 9pm to find the restaurant has since closed with only a small bar menu available until 7pm the was empty with only the barman present playing the fruit machine next to the worn out pool table. On the plus side, they do offer parking for the hospital for £4.50 which is better than the pay and display especially if you don't know how long your hospital visit is.

Didnt expect 5 star as didnt pay 5 star price but was pleasantly surprised large comfy onsuite bedroom very comfy bed and the breakfast was just what we needed after our daughters wedding reception the night before. Friendly staff and couldnt do enough for us +++++

Such a shame that this is in need of an overhaul as the function rooms are huge and easily accessible. Plenty of parking too for such a central location.

Generally over the years, my experience at this venue has been enjoyable. So was excited by the prospect of dining for Xmas Dinner @ The Bellingham. Great concept, initially great atmosphere, and pains me to say a poor delivery. Uncoordinated chaos by the end. Diners waiting hour+half for dessert, still delivering starters?? Seemingly it transpires that Chef walked out mid service....explains a lot. (Better vetting maybe). Very disappointed at £50 p/p.

Went to a christening do here, they either served their food or hosts had to come back and tidy everything up so went with the hotels food, which was a "hot buffet" curry was cold, rice was watery and cold, entertainment were rude especially to some of the children, wasn't very well staffed, refused to serve a cup of tea through rooms even though the bars were directly behind each other with a door had to go all way round to get a cup of tea.

Only there training for a day but staff very polite and helpful. Nice clean place.

£6 for two cokes and £4.50 to park is an absolute joke. Won't be going here again

Potential to be the best pub in wigan. Sort the TVs out, just subscribe to skysportw. Do some simple pub food, sandwiches etc. New pool table required. Like always trying new things but never follow through. Do simple things and do them well. Change that terrible carpet. AND BRING BACK FRENCH MIKE.

Dont bother this place disgusting staff rude went for 80th party and they couldnt organise snything we had to ask for plates ect it was dirty and bad smell near the bar manager very agressive in front of small children one child got hurt in the scuffle dispicable man should be licked up will never go there again just horrid

Great location... The function room was very well furnished... The drinks were a little expensive but the staff were very attentive

I was there for a 50th birthday party. There were about 80 guests which fitted well in the function room. Service was friendly and quick at the bar and the buffet was excellent

Filthy, dirty, cold, management rude and not interested DO NOT USE ...... no staff on duty at all booked in for 12 eventually got key from disgruntled manager at 12 40. Room is filthy as per pictures. Very unhappy customers

Excellent bar .....Excellent staff

Very run down bed rooms. Bed sheets had stains on and bathroom very dirty and mouldy. Room felt damp with wallpaper coming off walls. Fire alarm broken and hanging from ceiling. We decided not to stay and went to another hotel.

We hired the function room for a party, the staff were very helpful and we had a fantastic time.

Were staying ther from work and i can honestly say it is without doubt the worst place ive stayed in and not even worthy ov a single star no tv in first room and hot water tap was broke and wudnt turn only had cold water moved to anutha room which is just as bad

I went for a brilliant function - a benefit for Les Hilton. The Bellingham pulled out all the stops to make the function a success

It's the first time I've been since the new owners took over, and the refurb, and a good job too.

Service was excelant. At the moment it just been taken over by a beautyfyl couple who are trying hard to put things right after it being dragged down by the last owners the rooms are being updated at the moment so hopefully they can get it up and fully running asap the location is not fair from Wigan town center and across from the hospital but is a quite area can't hear the bizzy road at all

My experience of staying in this hotel was 1 of much laughter & drunkenness. I'd definitely stay again as there's not much complaint if any over how much noise you make. You can take people back to your room an party well into the night. It's cheap & cheerful so if your looking for 5star luxury you'll be disappointed. You get what you pay for.

The bar area is nice but the hotel side of things here are very out dated.

Advertised as a bed and breakfast with restaurant, our booking wasn't taken correctly but luckily I had the foresight to check that morning and 1 room was available. Upon arrival the room was in need of decorating, a serious clean, most of the bulbs were out and the bed was very worn, tatty and in need of replacing. That said the bedding was clean. The staff failed to inform us of a Halloween party that went on until approximately 4am. Restaurant wise they did 5 set bar meals and no breakfast was served. As for the attached bar, shabby, again almost half of the lighting wasn't working the carpets were worn and tattered but the staff were very friendly. All in all a very disappointing stay and we shall not be returning.

Service can be slow but improves at weekend

Oh my God. I really don't know where to start. Admittedly we arrived late on a Saturday night, but nothing had prepared us for what was to be one of the worst experiences of our lives. What a complete zoo. We arrived to find the reception half decorated and unmanned, the building smelled strongly of damp and cheap paint. We proceeded to the bar in order to check in, and were greeted with what appeared to be a fire, however the smoke turned out to be from an over zealous smoke machine which produced almost enough smoke to hide the poor decour and 'lively' patrons. Having checked in with the admittedly pleasant friendly staff, we proceeded to our rooms. Only once we had reached our rooms did we realise we had been followed by one of the extremely drunk patrons of the bar, claimed to be looking for his room, as his skulked around in the corridor. After struggling to enter the room with the temperamental door cards and our experience thus far, we had somewhat lowered any expectations of what to expect of the rooms... Knocking shop comes to mind. The first thing that hits you is the smell of stale smoke, the Bedding was dirty, carpets filthy, lots of small insects presumably came in from the open window, peeling wallpaper, mysterious marks and smears on the walls, unpleasant smell, damp marks, bathroom toilet was heavily stained to put it lightly (you've seen "human traffic" right?), very strange noises coming from other rooms, very noisy floorboards, just very run down generally. We didn't even put our bags down, we just turned around a made our way to the exit, I would love to be able to say that this is where our extremely brief nightmare at the Bellingham hotel ended. Sadly not, the previously mentioned intoxicated man (it would be fair to assume on something more than alcohol) was now relieving his bladder on the reception doorstep yet by the time we had got back to the car some thirty seconds later he had made it up to the third floor to burst out onto the fire exit and was proceeding to incoherently talk to himself. We left our door cards on the reception desk to avoid returning to the bar, and bundled into the car to never return, thank god one of us was sober and could drive, I would have rather slept in the car. A friend of ours was brave enough (or should I say drunk enough) to stay the night and reported similar room complaints but was also treated to two instances of fire alarms during the night and no hot water in the morning so we felt vindicated in our decision to not stay the night. We didn't bother to seek a refund and the only reason we gave it one star is that we couldn't give it anything lower. We don't have overly high standards by any means, we could have forgave it for being tired if it was clean but if this really is the best they can do they are in the wrong business. Sorry.

Complete dive, We are not exactly jet setters but this smelly hole is the worst place we have ever stayed, only positive things to say are the beer was cheap and the staff were pleasant, did not risk the breakfast!

The restaurant is trying to reliance itself and the food is much better than it hs been for a long time. Very well presented and the service is very good too!!

Previously employed at the Bellingham hotel for over 3 years, ever since the new owners Richard and carol have taken over it has gone down hill... the decor and atmosphere of the hotel side is just cheap and its definitely not cheer full it has not had any money spent on it in the last 20 years as you can imagine what it looks like.... if not check out the hotel inspector it featured on there a few months ago, just to be clear..... i would not take my Mrs's there for an quiet evening it would only suite those who pull after a night round Wigan. The food has now been changed to microwave meals as they can only afford to pay 1 chef due to them not making enough money the breakfast is your typical fry up or cereal would not call it a continental breakfast. I would really rectormend the brocket arms wetherspoon it is spiting distance from the bellingam and I can not fault it...

Whoa! Think twice before booking in here. Hotel as seen on the Hotel Inspector and has not got any better yet. From the moment you walk through the door to be met by an over sized vase that you practically have to wrestle with to get past, to the super sized chairs, all of which are out of place and gauche, to the rooms which are dated and faded and don't even come with a duvet, blankets only! its a terrible experience. Old screws left on the wall where pictures once hung to mouldy shower mastic this place has no atmosphere I would want to be part of. Only the friendliness of the staff could not be criticised that's not to say they were super attentive because they weren't, lacking any authority or professionalism.

Not what it used to be. Badly in need of refurbishment.
