With the weather becoming Autumnal. We fancied a roast dinner. We haven’t Eaten at the Bell for some time so weren’t sure what to expect. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was well presented and hot. I had the vegan option and the nut roast was great. We will be returning and will be recommending to our friends

We haven’t been to the Bell since new ownership so thought we’d try. I visited with husband and 6 year old son. My son ordered a child’s nuggets , chips and peas… the peas never arrived. I ordered a chicken burger which ok… (wasn’t amazing but ok). My husband ordered the pie of the day which was steak pie, mash and veg. The pie arrived and the pastry looked pale, mash-dry and the veg was shrivelled up as if it had been heated for too long. After a couple of mouthfuls he tried the pie and it was stone cold as if it hadn’t been heated a little and just came out of the fridge or defrosted from the freezer. We told the waitress and they brought out a fresher one. It isn’t the point though, as we don’t go out often. Meals are so expensive these days and wanted to enjoy ourselves but unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. My son’s pudding arrived which was one small scoop of ice cream- my son even said this is little (enough for a toddlers pudding). We paid the bill and had 1 adult meal knocked off the bill which was good of the restaurant but still not a great experience for the price and when we don’t go out often anyway.

The portions were large The young girl who served us was efficient, polite, helpful and on our arrival was running the bar, taking food order, waitressing. Third time of trying this venue (twice now service has been bad) So third time lucky (!) Five adults for grub......... We had booked for 1.30pm, we were waiting to be seated, no acknowledgement from any staff that we were waiting (ie no-one came over and said be with you shortly etc). Eventually, we got seated, a very young waitress came to take our order and I know its daunting but she wasn't happy, seemed impatient. Asked in a brisque manner "what food do you want", I did politely tell her, we would like to order some drinks too! She wrote down drink order and then our food order. Ten minutes later the starters came out, but still no drinks had arrived, I could also see Staff hanging around the bar area looking bored and lost, SURELY one of them could have been making our drinks? So, eventually after asking where the drinks were another waitress came over to apologise to say they had "lost our drink order"........seriously all in all it took them 30 minutes to tell us that one! The mains eventually emerged at 3pm (I was very hungry as no starter for me),now the food was excellent well done to the Chef ( however it was a long wait for food) and wasn't busy with customers at that point. Please get some staff who know how to acknowledge your paying customers with some respect. Sorry, but Food is excellent, we have now visited here three times and twice now service has been bad, so for that reason we now won't be a returning customer. :(

Roast lamb was very good but the Eton mess was a let down unfortunately. I really shouldn’t have eating it. No much merengue pieces and the cream was not whipped cream but the one from the can , therefore everything was melted in a mess . No texture at all . Pity. Terrible service. Arrived at 1.35 and had to go to bar to order drinks. Ordered hallumi fries and two sandwiches (with French fries). At 2pm no food had arrived. We asked how long it would be & told 5-10 mins. 19 mins later food arrived. I couldn’t eat any of the sandwich because the mushrooms were too salty. When we arrived we were the only 2 customers in the bar. There was a table of 4 in the dining room. My bill came to £27 and all I had was some French fries. If you are hungry, this is not the pub for you. I won’t be returning

My first time visiting the Bell this sunday just gone and it wont be my last....has to be my best experience at a local pub in a long time and the best Sunday roast ive ever had (apart from my mums 😉) the portions where generous and fantastic cuts of meat...coupled with freindly staff, a welcoming interior and fair prices....its a 12 out of 10 from me for the Bell. Allergens (nuts) not listed on the menu at all! Be very careful if you suffer any form of allergy and be sure to ask if the food you're ordering contains any allergens. My partner and I visited The Bell this evening (13/04/2024) for a meal. My partner ordered the Cotswold Wild Garlic Risotto (which as can be seen from the attached photo makes no mention of containing nuts). After a couple of mouthfuls, my partner found what looked to be nuts in the food. Upon enquiring with the waitress, who asked the chef if the food contained nuts, the chef confirmed that it did in fact contain walnut, which my partner is allergic to and did suffer an allergic reaction to. The wait staff were very concerned for my partner's wellbeing, offering to call her an ambulance etc. However, I'd seriously recommend anyone with any sort of food allergy confirms that their food is clear from allergens and don't just rely on the menu to inform you of such. Luckily as my partner only had a couple of mouthfuls, this time it was only a mild reaction that seems to be subsiding now, but obviously very distressing for my partner.

Today we booked a table for 6 for our Sunday roast, when we arrived they originally had us seated in the restaurant but we thought there would be more room to accommodate us with the buggy and high chair in the main bar, they were happy for us to sit in the main bar. We had pre ordered 4 lamb roasts for the adults in our group, the lamb was very, very fatty (more fat than meat) potatoes were more boiled than roasted and gravy was lumpy but watery, all of the lamb dinners were served Luke warm. The children ordered sides and kids meals and they had no issues. We had to ask for sauces as they weren't offered, also had to ask for our plates to be removed from the table and had to ask for the dessert menu. We ordered 4 cheesecakes between our group for dessert and when it came out every one had half the base of the cheesecake missing, we mentioned it to the girl who brought them out and she just said that it had broken off. So we basically had half the dessert we were paying for. If we wanted any drinks we had to wait until someone was around to ask for what we wanted. Some constructive criticism would be to have staff do check backs regularly on tables to ensure they have everything they need to enjoy their meal. Meal and drinks seemed quite pricey for the service we received. For our first time there I'm not sure I would recommend them to any friends or family after the service (lack of) that we received.

Under new management (again) so thought I'd give it a go with a friend on a Friday evening. It wasn't massively busy, but the first thing I noticed was the smell of wet panting dogs and steamy windows! Doesn't lend itself for a first good impression. However the staff were friendly and really nice, the food was lush, my friend had the wagyu burger and said it was gorgeous, I had the Korean chicken burger which was huge but really tasty. A big food improvement on the previous owners. The new owners seemed to have stepped up the food options and quality compared to what it was. We opted for the Bad Boy vegan burger which was really nice. Crunchy burger, and tasty fries (I upgraded to truffle fries which are good too). Food arrived in good time and we managed to get a table easily without booking. Only downside is that it's quite pricey for a pub with £6-8 on average for a starter, £16-18 for a main. Dessert was reasonable at £6.50. expect to pay around £50 for two mains, two drinks and a dessert to share, but food is good! The extra 12.5% added to the bill for a discretionary service charge was a real shame to see, as it adds a chunk to the bill and generally people feel guilty to ask to remove it. Overall a good visit!

Just had an awful experience at The Bell in Stoke Mandeville. I never usually write reviews but the service and the food were so bad that I feel its needed to help with improvement or at least save others from making the mistake of eating there. Firstly, all the tables were dirty in the empty pub and the very unwelcoming and rude waitress gave us a cloth to clean our table despite the fact she was clearly not busy at all. We then ordered nachos and a ploughman's that were both awful and made with the cheapest of ingredients. My nachos had been nuked in the microwave so much that the cheese had solidified to rock hard making the nachos inedible. I complained to the waitress who got my another portion that were only marginally better and not once did she apologise or seem to be bothered about the terrible food she was serving. Have left feeling really angry with how bad the whole experience was and would never go again. The waitress needs to be fired, just not acceptable to be so unwelcoming and rude. Avoid The Bell

My mrs had just done a 6 day shift at the hospital so I thought I’d treat us to a Sunday lunch … we arrived at 1300 (on a Sunday) and the place was dead. Friendly waitress took us to a table and we ordered drinks… then we were told that due to an event they weren’t doing Sunday lunch…if we’d been told upon arrival they weren’t doing Sunday lunch we wouldn’t have stayed. The alternatives were terrible, my mrs is vegetarian so she ordered a vegetarian pie with seasonal veg… a few minutes after ordering someone came along and asked her if she was vegan or vegetarian as the pie has meat in it. When we asked her what she meant she seemed to not know what vegan or vegetarian meant, she muttered and wandered off…. we didn’t see her again, and we still don’t understand what she meant. The seasonal veg was…. Over boiled frozen peas and a tiny dollop of mash. Oh and gravy, we couldn’t be bothered to ask if the gravy was vegetarian, but I am 99% sure it wasn’t but she needed it to drown the dry mash and peas. I ordered the mixed grill, it was terrible , if you’ve ever wondered how thin a gammon slice needs to be before it’s just bacon - dine here.. the thinest gammon I’ve ever seen, but also the fattiest, a lump of chicken that looked and tasted like it had been boiled, and a steak that was so tough (no steak knife was offered) that I had to ask for some sauce to mask the flavour (I never eat steak with sauce). I can’t be bothered to describe the kids pasta , but he didn’t eat it. My mrs hates it when I make a fuss so I bit my tongue (nicer than the steak lol), but at the end I had to say something and we got our drinks taken off the bill. I also flashed the Mrs’ blue light card and got more off the bill. Disappointed.

Recently visited The Bell which seems to be under new management - found the new bar staff to be very rude to us and also especially when we heard them talking badly about the previous staff. Very unprofessional and really ruined our experience. Won’t be returning any time soon.

This used to be one of the best places in Aylesbury for chips, but now they taste super weird. I think there was an ownership change somewhat recently which might explain it. A friend has the same issue and assumes they must have changed the cooking fat they use as the current product leaves a weird waxiness on the roof of the mouth. They also now take a lot longer to do orders despite having twice the amount of staff behind the counter.

Beautiful little pub with great food and atmosphere on the outskirts of Aylesbury

We popped in to this pub hoping for a cup of tea while in the area. The staff member was closing up for a short time, however she kindly served us tea which we drank while sitting in the nice garden. She checked that we were OK, offered use of the toilets, then locked up and left us to enjoy our tea. On a fairly quick look the pub looks very nice inside, the menus on display were interesting too, and the place is certainly worth a longer visit in the future.

Very disappointing food and some of the dishes were very expensive. Pleasant staff is the best I can say.

Great place for a pint and a friendly chat. Pub hasn't offered food for about 2 years now so ignore Google's page on food and menus.
