The Bell Jar in Glasgow City

Got a refreshing pint of Kandy Hop! You guys were great last night Sci-Fi Disco and Rin. The beer may have run out at the show but this is bound to be an Overtone classic. Tastes just like it says on the tin and the Bell Jar is looking good too.

As good as it was the first time....superb food, great atmosphere and excellent service. A gem of a place....well done !

Food very good and reasonably priced.

The beef stew was really good although it didn’t even come with bread. The service was really slow although polite. The roasted vegetables had olives in them which made them un-eatable for me. If I was serving me I would have taken them off the bill but they didn’t. I won’t be back, although the bar side vibe was cool, and I get why people dig it.

Thank you for a fun afternoon. The cocktails are amazing, delicious and unusual! The fish stew and the cod dish, both exceptional! Warm, friendly and professional service. Couldn't ask for more.

First time that I have been in here and thoroughly enjoyed it. No food, just 2 glasses of red wine and the craic. I will return.

A very appealing selection on the menu with extremely tasty Italian dishes for an absolutely fair price. Lovely again!

I like this bar but think there’s some better ones close by. The drinks selection is good and the food is nice but lacking a little. Staff are nice.

Great little pub. Excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. The little plates menu was ideal for sharing and the food was great. Being dog friendly is a bonus - my pup even got his own little bowl of water. I’ll definitely be back.

The Bell Jar should be better than this. The decor is awful, dull, and disinteresting. The quality of the food was variable. It should be consistent and more flavoursome.

Lovely, cosy bar with a restaurant at the back. Good selection of local Glasgow beers. They do cocktails and fantastic food! The arancini balls were delicious and the chips are amazing. My husband said his beef stew was beautifully cooked and fell apart so easily. Really nice atmosphere, very casual, but lovely friendly service. Just off the main road, this is a great little pub!

The Bell Jar is a hidden gem in Govanhill. The pumps change and there is always a great selection of cans, so you can always be sure to find something interesting to try. As good as this is though, it pales compared to the food which is just sublime. Not really tapas, more rationes, but select between 3 - 5 plates to share between two and nothing will disappoint.

Visited on a quiet Sunday with friends, it wasn't busy so the service was good. The small big plates are exactly as that reads - small but filling! We went for a selection to share and all the options were incredible. Many gluten free options for those that need / prefer.

Friendly local pub with a good range of drinks. Food looked tasty and good value

Food was absolutely superb. 5 courses and side portions of fries and bread for 40 quid. I'd have paid way more...lovely.

This is a great bar that does great food that is far above the usual pub grub. My only gripe with the food was that [although wonderful] the portions/plates are very small. There's also a great selection of beers / ales and the service and staff were all lovely. The bar itself feels like a traditional 'old man's boozer' that has been gentrified somewhat by far more trendy [almost Hipster] and younger patrons. I almost felt like I was in Williamsburgh/Brooklyn. Will definitely be back. (y)

My first local when I was about 18. The actual pub layout remains the same with some original features. Great range of beers and spirits and although we did not eat, the menu looks interesting. Nice to see it is dog friendly and hope to be back. Back again and the beers are great.

Found it by accident, the beef stew with freshly baked bread was excellent, the lager was nice and it was a lovely chilled environment, definitely recommended

This is without question the best place for a meal on the south side of Glasgow right now. Brilliant menu, good choice of wines, great atmosphere, excellent team in the kitchen and smiling service and all at a very reasonable price.

New menu looked great. Had a great mix of the seafood and meat tonight. Service as always was brillant. Can't recommend enough 👏👏👏 Ps as per the handcut chips were 👌

An excellent night on many fronts, busy but not crazy, music not too loud, perfect conditions to explore the human condition!

What a gem! 😀 Very tasty food, great gluten free options, so many GF beers to choose from. Spiced Cod was delicious and my partner said that Stuffed Cabbage Leaves with Italian Meatballs was the best thing he ever had. Friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely be back.

Great food and service as usual. One of the best pubs around for gluten free food and beers. As a coeliac it’s great having a local bar with so many great options. Dog friendly too.

Anywhere with Bandwagonesque and Ally MacLeod artwork on the walls needs to be cherished. Fab boozer.

I've gone to the Bell Jar since it opened, always had a great time. But yesterday was weird. I called in a couple of weeks ago and told them I was coming in with about 15 pals to celebrate a work achievement. The woman was dead nice, said it'll be grand. We come in and folk are arriving, giving me flowers etc. The bar staff then came over and said we were being too loud, made it clear they wanted us to go. So we did. Never had an experience like it in my life. All felt a bit puritanical and odd. We were a happy group, having a laugh in the pub as planned. Don't really get what the objection was.

Love this pub it has such a lovely atmosphere and the staff are amazing. Food is great and drinks are very reasonable. I ordered a Limoncello Spritz and it was huge!

Never again, expensive, no seats even when half full, tried everything to get a seat - dreadful don't go!

Excellent food, wonderful and friendly staff, the chocolate cheese cake is out of this world and the beer selection is great and reasonably priced. You'll have to search for a long time to find a better pub than this one in Glasgow. Definitely the best one we've been at so far.

Went in for coffee and stayed for lunch. Food was excellent, recommend the stuffed cabbage leaf and the chips. Reasonably priced and service was efficient and friendly. Very clean and well supplied loo too.

Amazing small plates menu. Changes frequently. Always delicious. Extremely reasonable prices (food + drink). Great front of house team. Chill and laidback. Busy with fun atmosphere in the evenings. Nice for a pit stop pint during the day. If your in the Southside, it’s worth a visit. Here’s the tasty salmon I just had.

Upon entry, it looks every bit the 'old man's' pub. Walk through to the back, pick up the menu and order, it's a different world. Some of the most delicious food I've ever had. Between two of us, we ordered 6 dishes (they're tapas style) and they were all top notch. Highly recommended.

From the creators of Partick’s Sparkle Horse comes The Bell Jar. A minimalist interior and unfussy layout. Was a very quiet snowy evening on my visit so hard to judge the atmosphere but the menu looked good with quirky small plates and it feels a lot more premium than some of the other pubs nearby

Delicious small plates where there’s something for everyone of all dietary needs. lovely cozy atmosphere with comfortable seats, friendly staff, and board games to top it off. Anyone would be lucky to be a regular here.

First time visiting this Bar/Restaurant. We had chosen it as my wife is Gluten Intolerant and I am Vegetarian. We were not disappointed. Good choice of meals, larger Tapas style plates ideal for sharing which we did. Food was great, very friendly staff, nice ambiance and pretty good value also I would highly recommend.

Cracking pub,bustling with atmosphere

Nice little pub with a few nice bites and some local brews, oth on tap as well as bottled or canned. Found myself there on a quiet afternoon and thoroughly liked the place.

Went for lunch with family, selected all mains one timesx2,plus3 other dishes +2beers, 1 gin and tonic and a red wine £9 0 quid. All quality dishes. Get yourself down there : yum, yum.

A great little pub slightly off the beaten path. Good beer, surprisingly good food all in little plates(a la tapas). Was super busy. Also very dog friendly.

My son has just moved into the area, and this is definitely a great find. Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff, delicious and well priced food . We had a vegan , a vegetarian and two meat eaters in our party and we were all well catered for. I like the small plate idea- we were able to order several and share . I'd definitely return for another meal or a drink. Also- spotlessly clean toilets!

Great little pub, full of character. Decent tap selection as well (the Overtone Pink Cashmere IPA is excellent). Only slight negative is that I don't really like the food menu. The food I had tasted good, no complaints, but if I'm in a pub drinking I want to eat something hearty like a burger, not a selection of small plates. Seems an odd choice for a pub.

I really like this place. it has the cool factor and is good for a drink or if you want some excellent food. on a Monday you cant get a seat because of the quiz!. has a really cool community vibe too and the staff are fantastic.

Found this little hidden treasure when out for drinks in the Southside of Glasgow. Staff lovely and couldn’t do enough for us, we ordered small plates from the menu and they were delicious, drinks also great fabulous choice and served with all the right mixers. Prices so reasonable we will definitely be back.

Had a very relaxing afternoon... didn't know about this wee gem! Not pretentious, just really excellent food and drinks. Different from usual ’pub food’ but with a very cosy traditional atmosphere.... cocktails are a must! Will definitely be back!

Ever been discriminated against because you are male White htroosexual and walk into a bar with your wife and two friends? This is the bar to make you fell so unwelcome it is painful. I grew up in this neighbourhood . It is with regret that it's unwelcoming attitude precipitated by its biased and inexeperirienced staff make it doomed to failure. Diversity should not equal rudeness

This is round the corner from my house so will confess I am in a lot. Great small plates for lunch or dinner, really friendly attentive staff who are also great with kids. Got a lovely relaxed atmosphere whether you are in for a drink with friends on a busy Saturday night or just want a quiet pint to read your book of an afternoon.
