On Sunday I celebrated my 90th birthday with my family at the Bell in Haughton. It was such a happy joyous occasion. The staff couldn't have done more. The food was delicious. We made a last minute booking for Sunday Lunch, so although busy fitted us in. The food arrived quite quickly, was well presented, piping hot and delicious. The puddings were equally good. The only thing which could have been abit better was the organization in the restaurant, other than that, first class.

Our little group of three stopped at this pub after a day sightseeing and returning to Stafford and all three of us are delighted we deed. From the lovely warm greeting to our departure all the staff were first rate. The food is very good indeed, my sister had the Pan Fried Sea Bass my brother in law had the Lamb Shank and I had Battered Cod . Everything was delicious as well as being served in very generous portions. The menu is extensive so there is something for everyone. Our three meals and two lime and soda and a water came to £48.70 which was unbelievable value. Any establishment that only charges £1 for lime and soda these days needs to be applauded. If you are anywhere in the area all three of us heartily recommend this pub. There is a very comfortable separate dining area and a welcoming bar.

Where to start! We called in at lunchtime for what we hoped was going to be a lunchtime light bight menu. Very poor menu choices, plenty of meal choices but only one sandwich choice (if you want a sandwich you’ve gotta want Tuna!) So we ordered tuna sandwiches. When they came they were one slice of bread, crusts cut off, with virtually no filling, so we sent them back. They came back with a little more filling, but now on hot plates se the bread was stale! To sum up, poor menu choices and poor quality.

It's been a while since we last visited The Bell. The New Hosts were fantastic and very welcoming. The food was even better. My wife and I had the two course option and we chose to have a selection of the meats on offer. Pork, Turkey and Beef. The portion size was spot on and perfectly cooked, enough to fill you up without being wasteful. There was a good selection of desserts which are not to be missed. If you want excellent homemade food that offers value for money and a warm friendly atmosphere the The Bell Haughton is the place to go

We were camping at The Red Lion farm in Haughton and stumbled accords this little beauty. It’s dog friendly, the beer is great and has a lovely cosy beer garden. For me this is the perfect camping pub - the staff were super friendly and welcoming, our dog lived the dog biscuits especially and the locals were nice and friendly. We came here for a drink on the Friday, popped back after a long walk Saturday to refresh and then for dinner on Saturday night. The food was lovely and great value for money - we had three courses and a lot of beer and it still came in under less than £20 per head. We’ll be camping here again and can’t wait to see the new management continue to bring the oub to life!

Simple but superly cooked food with excellent service. The hosts offer a small menu but everything on that menu is freshly cooked and of fantastic quality. The portions were generpus and fairly priced. The home-made fishcake starter was perfect and we had the best roast dinner we have had for a while. The Inn is immaculately clean but also holds an old-World charm and atmosphere. Good selection of wines and ales too. We will be returning I'm certain.

We’re regular visitors here and always made to feel welcome. Yes, it’s now our local but it’s a lovely place to bring visiting family and friends. The menu is pretty extensive and has lots to offer (including vegetarian and vegan dishes). So something for everyone! In recent months I’ve tried the festive fayre, New Year’s Day breakfast, fish n chip night and Valentine’s night menu (as well as the regular menu). All dishes tried proved a hit! The same can be said for visitors I’m with. If you’re looking for a nice place to eat/drink, that’s reasonably priced, The Bell is well worth a try.

Went last night for the first time with new management, lovely decor. Very very quiet for a Wednesday night. The lady who served us most of the evening was so lovely, polite and helpful. The menu is basic pub grub but when it came it was pretty good. My lasagne was lovely, the chips were super and a nice fresh salad. It was so quiet there was not much atmosphere which is a shame for a village pub. They closed at 10 which surprised us as we’re happily chatting away. I would go back, I want them to succeed, but how to get the regulars well, the other lady in the bar was abrupt and quite rude. Just a thought! We did not choose starters, as we normally would as they are very limited.

Let's go for a curry i said to the wife and that was that.all it would have taken to have possibly make a difference was someone other than the 2 girls just coming over with a menu acknowledging your presence and actually taking control of the service, its a shame.

Arrived on time for a Saturday evening meal, ordered drinks at the bar and went to our table for two. After a while we ordered and then waited for some time before our food arrived. As soon as my meal was put down, the pork stack, it was clearly obvious the pork was cremated, having a 4 mm black crust on one side, also the broccoli shoots were virtually raw as they were very difficult to cut. I went to the bar and asked if someone could come to my table to discuss my meal and was told 'yes'. After a wait the waitress came and said the chef was very busy and what was the problem. She offered to replace the meal which I declined as my wife had eaten about a third of her meal by this time and I said I would just eat the black pudding and the mash, but the price would need to reflect this. The mash was very lumpy. My wife's meal was a duck duo which was a well thought out meal but not well executed as the kiev was over fried.Asked if we wanted a look at the dessert menu we declined and were offered the bill.As I was charged full price for my main I asked at the bar if the chef had a problem with me complaining, and was advised that 'as I had not tried it the Chef was charging me full price for it'! If I had tried it I bet I would have been charged for eating it.I did feel sorry for the lady behind the bar who had to deliver this news but I paid up and will not be back any time soon. Such a pity as I have lived in this village for nearly 60 years and whilst I wouldn't call myself a regular I certainly will not be back any time soon.

Just enjoyed a night out at The Bell. First night there in a long time, but thought we would go as it has new management. The food was exceptional. My husband and I both had the salmon to start, followed by the pork belly with black pudding on champ potatoes with long stemmed broccoli and raspberry cheesecake for dessert. All the dishes were generously proportioned and presented beautifully. The pork was cooked to perfection, and topped with delicious crackling. The sauces on both the starter and main were very tasty. We both agreed that the food was restaurant quality in both presentation and flavour - and at £63 for two starters, two mains, a shared dessert, two pints and two glasses of wine, it was excellent value for money. We also enjoyed the ambience of the pub, as it was carpeted and low ceilinged, so there was no scraping of chairs, echoing of voices and clatter of cutlery that is common in many gastro-pubs. We have read the previous reviews and found the service from both young waitresses to be friendly and relaxed, and after chatting with them, we learned that this was their second weekend with the new menu introduced by the new owners. Another couple dining there that evening w recommended the cajun salmon to us - although the lamb shank could be my next choice ...that's at least two more nights out at The Bell! Apparently, there is open mike one Wednesday in every month, live music alternate Fridays and a quiz night every week. This is just what we need in locally - a traditional style pub that offers great food and entertainment. We will definitely visit The Bell again to try out other dishes on the menu and enjoy the friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

The Bell has recently been taken over by Tom and Hannah. We have recently eaten there on two occasions and have found the food to be exemplary. The first time we both enjoyed delicious steaks, cooked to perfection and no need to request a steak knife. We went for our second meal on the first night of their new menu. We ordered two meals, one from the A la Carte menu and hubby decided on a steak. The restaurant was busy so there was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive but despite this it was well worth the wait. I had cajun salmon and and hubby had ribeye steak. Both were beautifully presented and hot.I feel sure that given time to find their feet Tom and Hannah will make a success of the business. Unfortunately they have lost a few members of their staff to university and are now having to start from scratch again with new staff and adequate training.I hope people will show them the support they deserve.

Just returned from a meal at the Bell Inn and having experienced some of the worst service ever.Booked a table of 6 for 19:30 and all arrived on time for what we hoped would be a great evening based on the reviews we had seen and previous experiences. We ordered some drinks and grabbed a table at the bar, waiting to be shown to our table but after 10 minutes or so asked if the table was ready and the lady serving went to check, it was so we were taken to our table. The food area was pretty quiet for a Saturday evening (possibly a symptom of things to come), so we were surprised that it took a while to take our orders. Having placed these we then preceded to wait 30 minutes before asking a waitress how long the food would be. We were advised it would be 5 minutes, nearly 20 minutes later our starters arrived. 5/6 of the starters were ok but not worth the wait, however the soup of the day was inedible due to the level of oil floating in the bowl, a case of food being as unappetising on the palette as the eye. This was brought to the waitress's attention who did take back and offer an alternative but we simply asked for this to be removed from the bill.Following the starters another long wait ensued before for mains arrived with no table service to see if our party wanted any further drinks, instead we had to go to the bar directly. When the mains finally arrived again the food on the whole was alright, the duck special did receive good reviews and the fish and chips also went down well. However the salad served with the lasagne hadn't been washed adequately and was dirty, now we are all for fresh salad but not that fresh. Serving dirty salad should just not happen especially given the time it took to send it out!! We again complained out this to the waitress who could only apologise for a basic kitchen error. The same waitress then came to the table and rather than asking if we would like any desserts or coffee and while one member of the party was still eating asked if we wanted the bill. Shocked at being asked this so bluntly and frankly not wishing to wait another 45 minutes for dessert we said yes. We raised this point with another waitress when asked they passed and that it is poor to ask if a party wants the bill when still eating, albeit this was the quickest they had been to ask us anything all evening. The lady we spoke with then went to speak with the waitress in question and came back to our table saying the waitress had asked if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else, this was not true but hey, so much for the customer is always right! We will not be going back anytime soon and it is sad to see a pub which has been a pleasure before and has potential offer such poor service. If there were staff shortages or whatever we get that- life happens! But the customer would appreciate knowing beforehand rather than just waiting and waiting...

TL;DR: waited, waited some more, sent some food back, waited a little more, and a little more, got some unwashed salad, got the bill while we were still eating, waitress lied, paid bill, left. Won't return.-Had to ask to be taken to our table after 20-30 minutes of hanging around the bar.-Took over an hour for our starters to arrive. One of which was sent back as the 'soup' turned out to be of an extra thick and stodgy baby food variety. Got a refund for this item, though.- Approximately an hour later our mains arrived. Some were actually very nice (duck from the a la carte menu, for example); however, the salad (which was actually forgotten and we had to ask them to provide it), was covered in crap (literally), guess they didn't just forget to dress it but forgot to clean it, too. Turned out the burger's salad was also filthy. They did apologise for this, wahoo(!)- While still eating waitress asked us if we wanted the bill. When another waitress provided the bill and asked if everything was ok we said 'Not really. While we were still eating we were being asked if we wanted the bill' - we didn't bother mentioning the filthy salad again. A while later the waitress returned and claimed some absolute bs about how the waitress has asked us if we wanted anything else. Yeah, right. No humility at this place. Needless to say, we never got a sweet or a coffee. 6 people, a couple of beers, few hours, £140. Avoid like the plague.

As a local we have used this pub regluarly over the last 2 yearsIt was always great service and excelllent food. However last night we booked for 7-45 and arrived on time.At 9pm we still hadnt recieved anything nor offered further drinks.I questioned the only 2 staff on duty and they said they would checkNo answer came backAll the previous staff were sitting quite happily eating their meals so i asked what the problem was ? Which i was told new owners !!!! Their faces said it all.The menu has downsized and is now very basic with the exception of chateau briand at £44. - god knows why in a local country pubAs We and another table of guests were about to leave at 9-10 the food arrived.More apologies came but none of the extras like gravy for the pie arrived.Again no question of offering more drinks even though ours were finished. The food was ok allthough not presented to prlevious standards and i feel empathy for the. 2 staff on duty as they were obviously new.But !! New owners if your reading these reviews get your act togetherIts a country pub Serve decent food with a fair variety menu and get some staff who can copeDont let this be another pub close disasterWe need our country pubs and you need our custom. Its been a well run model so far so if aint bust dont fix itHope it improved very soon

We read the reviews for this pub and decided to try it for lunch. Piping hot food, freshly cooked and presented. The homemade desserts were really nice and portions were very generous. Staff were very friendly too. Will try Sunday Lunch next. Excellent value for money.

Again a good variety on the menu, including traditional roast. The family enjoyed it. We noticed that the regular staff weren't around, then discovered a change of owners. The food had not suffered and the staff just as friendly

I'd heard that some new people were now running the bell so we decided to give it a go.Let's be honest, it's not a fancy bistro pub it's a nice genuine village pub offering a good pint and basic well cooked food. I had pie of the day (excellent) and my wife had the fish and chips... the cod was enormous with nice and crispy batter. Fish and chips must be a specialty as they run a regular fish and chip night. The service was great (helpful young lady called Becky) and overall I was very impressed. Will be back for more.

We called in just before 6pm to have a meal at what we had believed to be a good quality pub restaurant. I ordered lambs liver & onions my husband ordered pie of the day. When delivered the lamb was very bloody and I asked young waitress to send it back as I cannot eat rare liver. She came straight back and said the chef said there is nothing wrong with it he has sliced into it and it is perfectly cooked and well done. She offered me to try and slice it upon which blood could be seen. She scraped the blood away from the liver with a knife and said see well done. She went on to say the chef said he can cook it further but it will become very rubbery if you want him to do that he will. I said I am not prepared to eat either rare liver or rubbery liver so I want to change my order to the same as my husband. The waitress accepted this and offered more fresh vegetables which I declined and she said as I have changed the order it will take time to prepare which I accepted. My husband had to start eating his food as to leave it to wait for mine would mean having cold food. He had virtually finished when my pie meal arrived. This was very nice indeed and the vegetables were still warm enough to enjoy. When we asked for the bill it came charging us for 3 meals. When we queried this the waitress said the chef said there was nothing wrong with the lamb liver it was your preference so you are being charged. I was so shocked I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My husband said we are not paying for the lamb liver meal and really thought under the circumstances you would have given us a reduction for us having to eat separately to which the reply came back the Landlord will come and speak to you. Few minutes later waitress comes back and says the Landlord is out, I have taken off the lamb liver meal but cannot offer any reduction as it was your preference not to eat it. A very disappointing evening and we both left feeling very upset and agitated by the whole debacle. We will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone else.Such a shame.

Stopped at the Bell on the way home on a Saturday evening and just fancied something to eat. Calling in at 8.30 we asked if we could see the menu and was told we could eat in the restaurant or in the bar area. A variety of food was available and also a specialty of the day. Food was well presented and plenty of it. Well priced and with a variety of beers to choose from we had a very pleasant evening. The staff were very attentive and will definitely stop again when in the area again. Would recommend.

We have been visiting The Bell for a number of years now and it never fails to satisfy. If it were to be rated on value for money, it would certainly would be rated as five star. The pub classics, lasagna, fish and chips, pies etc are charged at £10 with the option of adding a large indulgent desert for only £1 more. The remainder of the menu has dishes such as lamb shank, pork belly and duck breast which provides diners with a good choice. The service is attentive and the dining area is very pleasant with an overspill in the bar area to cater for the very busy days. All in all a very good place for a pub lunch.

What a fantastic village pub!! The food here is fantastic, all result cooked and nicely presented. The portions are good sizes too. It was very busy for a Friday lunchtime which goes to show how popular and good the food is. The menu provided a good choice with a 2-course lunch for £11!! None of that processed microwave stuff here! Only one suggestion would be is to have a kids menu as the portions are way too big for children. Other than that it was a fantastic venue for a nice catch up with friends. Definitely recommended for a visit if you haven't already been!!

Called in at lunchtime for a light snack and sat in the pleasant bar area. Good varied choice of options on the menu. I chose A steak baguette and my partner chose a pork and apple one. Both were served promptly with a generous side salad, chips and coleslaw. The staff were very friendly and attentive and with a range of real ales available. Both the food and beer were excellent and we will certainly visit again.

After leaving one place because of the service we drove to this pub in the village of Haughton. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The food was all home cooked and though we just had a sandwich, it was of a very high quality. There were loads of awards on the wall for food quality, so the chef is extremely good. They also have open mic nights and I may try and get back for one of them.

Cosy Pub Restaurant serving popular Pub Food and with a good a la carte menu, plus Specials of the Day. The food is cooked to order , it was well served by a friendly lass and looked and tasted very good. There was little atmosphere until the restaurant started to fill up, then there was the lovely sound of people enjoying themselves etc. It was our second visit here. Its clean, friendly, serves a good selection of food to satisfy all tastes and at varying prices. It is probably best to book in advance if dining in the evenings, to save disappointment, especially at weekends.

4 of us, mum dad and 2 siblings decided to go for lunchAnd so glad we did pick the Bell Inn, although my hubby and eldest son have been beforeWe were met by a lovely lady and she seated us in the restaurant area with our drinksOur meals were 2 x chilli con carne with half chips and half rice, I had a fish and chips ( small portion). and our youngest son had the 158 burger. The mains were wonderfulAlthough I ordered the small fish and chips when it came out it was huge, and the lady told me it was still the same price. She also brought out a huge dish of the most tasty chips I have ever had. The mush peas were home made as was the tartare sauce The chillis and rice/chips were lovey and the chilli was not too hot ( I just had to try some for the next time ) As for the 158 Burger it was immense and came with bacon, cheese and the most tasty massive onion rings!! also a large portion of chips On to dessert - even though we were really full up we just had to try - we had 1 x bakewell tart and custard, 1x apple crumble and ice cream and 2 x brownie with salted caramel ice cream . All so so yummy - we were then stuffed to the brimThe meal deal is £11 for a main and a pudding and well worth Thank you - we will be visiting yet again very soon

What a lovely way to spend our Saturday afternoon. Lunch here was lovely. The only critique would be the amount of crisps. 4 crips was a bit poor! Other than that the food was delicious. The tea was very tasty too. I’m very picky with tea. But This was lovely. Staff were wonderful and was smiling and seemed happy which is always nice to see. We will be visiting again soon. As I very much enjoyed the peace and quiet away from main cafe/bars.
