Sunday lunch at the village pub – what could be better. Well, I wish we’d just ordered a bag of mini-cheddars instead of the roast lunch. To be fair there were power problems on the day of our visit, but the food served-up was pretty ordinary. Highlight was the delicious broccoli & stilton soup. The roasts to follow were a bit dry for our liking, (aside from the turkey) and the veggies a bit overcooked for us. The baguettes were pale and barely cooked. Roasties were good as was the gravy. A lovely pub and great staff but the food was disappointing.

I always check Trip Advisor and found very good reviews on this place. As we walked in food was being served and the fish n chips looked generous and beautifully cooked and the ploughman’s was big enough for the ploughman and his horse ! But a wise TA user always orders a round before asking for the menu and good job we did because that’s where it all went wrong. Clearly, we weren’t locals so we had the frozen face and silent welcome from the barmaid with gold stud piercing on bottom lip. Ordered a largish round which clearly annoyed her. She tapped in the order on the till, and with a practiced hand, silently thrust the card machine at us like a rapier, we even had to ask ‘so how much is that?’ A reluctant reply and then a sullen thank you was uttered with her back to us ! Shame as we all were intending to order lunch. All the TA reviews really big up the service but I had to go outside to check the sign that I had the right pub ! So my advice is that this one is only any good if you live within half a mile of the place as “we don’t much like strangers ‘round ere”- leave it with you…

We visited The Bell for a Saturday lunch with a group of our family. We were warmly welcomed to this small country pub, which is around a mile from Foxton Locks. It had the feel of a local pub. Service was a little slow but they were very busy and we were a large group, so we could forgive that. The menu was extensive with plenty of choice including meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options. There was something for everyone. Portion sizes were generous; several of our group commented how much food there was. I chose a steak and ale pie (which was served in a dish with a pastry top, I always wonder if this is actually a pie!). I found the shortcrust top was quite thick and tough to get through, but otherwise very tasty. My one gripe? Everything was served with pre-packed fries. They were fine, but for the price and the perceived quality of the pub, I would have hoped for hand cut, thicker chips. Clearly a time and effort saver to help them have a larger menu, but it took the shine off a little for me. If I’m passing again I might well pop in.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal at The Bell today. I chose the vegan option of burger, relish, chips and salad which was a tasty and superb meal, followed by vegan sticky toffee pudding and vegan ice cream which was so delicious I will dream about for months to come! This is our third time eating here and I'm sorry that I neglected to write a view after coming for the steak night a few weeks ago which was really good. Today we had the Sunday roast. Huge portions, good value, friendly, attentive service from everyone who works here. Nothing is too much trouble. A very friendly pub with a cosy atmosphere. Bar staff are just amazing and so happy to be there which is really reflected in the service. The menu is varied to suit everyone but best of all are the steak nights on Monday and Wednesday. Absolutely the best value for such lovely tasting steaks. 20oz is amazing price for £14.95 and if you're feeling brave... The 40oz! Always prompt and never kept waiting long even at the busiest of times. Puddings are also great although I'd like to see a little more variety. Overall, one of the best pubs for food whilst good value I've been to.

Value for money is exceptional and the food is delicious. Atmosphere is good and it is well frequented by locals, which gives a friendly vibe. It is a little cramped and we did feel a bit on top of the table next to us, but wasn’t a problem. Only downside is that we had to wait a while between ordering, having our table cleared, ordering coffee and having our coffee arrive. We had obviously been sitting at a table that another couple were booked on at a later time and they sure did make us know this; death stares and the man said “oh they’re still there”. Had we been served promptly, we wouldn’t have still been there, so it really was not our fault.

Fantastic country pub. I found this on trip advisor and we weren’t disappointed. I left a voicemail message re a booking and the wonderful landlord called me back promptly. We went for Sunday lunch and the welcome we received was lovely. We were so glad that we only ordered a main roast course as the food was exceptional a d so much of it. We had three different meats and all were delicious. The starters and deserts looked great but just no room. We will certainly return despite the hour journey as it was so good and nearby Foxton Locks are a few minutes down the road fir an after or pre meal walk.

Stopped for lunch whilst in the area and were pleasantly surprised. Sat outside in the walled garden, and chose from the daily offers board, £5.95 for main and £2 for dessert. Both had fish and chips, and although not the largest piece of fish, was tasty and value for money. Dessert of Apple and pear crumble and ice cream was good too. For the price, couldn't go wrong. Only downside being the tables weren't cleaned between guests, only cleared of dirty glasses etc.

Having set of from Union Wharf early afternoon this was our first night dinner venue. We were looking forward to the Monday steak night. We were met by 3 bored-looking staff behind the bar with little by way of welcome. My husband chose the Mixed grill and I chose sirloin steak. The mixed grill was fine but my sirloin was the palest piece of steak I have ever seen - more the colour of pork than beef and nowhere near as red as the steak in the Mixed grill. It was also very tough. We weren't offered any condiments and no one checked if our food was OK so there was no opportunity to give feedback. This was a very disappointing first dinner of our holiday.

Whilst the food was “ok” and the service was “ok” it was very disappointing to notice that they are basically ripping the customers off on the eat out to help out scheme. They have inflated the meal prices and deal prices on the Monday to Wednesday so you are not getting the deal you think you are. And then we ordered a bottle of wine with our meal and was charged £21.00 for it. We should have quibbled it at the time but didn’t really think. When we got home we looked on their wine menu online and the wine we had would normally be £13.95. Absolute rip off and what a shame they are taking advantage of the scheme in this way. It is just the customers that are losing out! I will not be giving them any of my money again.

Visited this place whilst on staycation with the family. The only word I can think of to describe it is ‘awful’!!! We were sat outside in the yard which was overrun with flies. We ordered drinks and the glasses were filthy so we requested straws. We ordered food, three sirloin steaks and a burger. The steaks were the toughest we have ever tried to eat so they were left uneaten. My son ordered water which he could not drink as there were items floating around in it. The service was ok but we would not visit again or recommend. Luckily we had 50% off and we even quibbled at paying that!

We ate this evening as a group of 4 friends - whilst our 3 course meal wS nice and the service was decent, I was utterly shocked about the prices.Although advertised on their website as 2 courses for £10.95 or 3 courses for £12.95 - when we got there they had a different menu printed stating 2 courses for £14.95 or 3 for £19.95. That’s a massive increase of £4 for 2 courses or £7 (an increase of 54%!!!!) if you opted for 3 courses and is completely unjustified. Yes, we could get £10 off our meal but basically the landlord has upped his prices knowing that he can reclaim the difference from the UK Government. There is simply no reasonable way to justify that increase, the food was no better than usual in terms of quality or taste!Absolutely shocking, bearing in mind it’s us taxpayers who will have to repay Rishi Sunak’s scheme because this isn’t free money for the economy!!!

Was surprised to see The Bell Inn offered takeaway Sunday lunch, so went along first to enquire about Gluten Free options. This could be accommodated, but there was no option to pre-order for the next day, so had to call and hope it wasn’t too busy. Slight hiccup in that they’d missed one whole meal, but they rectified this mistake quickly. We tried all of the meats on offer and were pleased by the large portions. Unfortunately the vegetables ranged from practically uncooked to well overcooked, with none being enjoyable. The Yorkshire puddings didn’t travel well, but the potatoes and gravy were nice.Other than the stuffing they did manage GF swaps, which was excellent.Given the price paid it was overall only an average meal I’m afraid.

We ate here during our canal boat holiday on the Grand Union Canal. There is a great menu and the Covid adaptations are efficient but don’t spoil your enjoyment one bit. I felt really safe eating here. Husband had Gumley smokies followed by chicken in Parma ham, I had pâté followed by sea bass. We had four fresh vegetables as a side - kale, leeks, carrots and broccoli. For dessert we had Bakewell tart and crumble. All delicious. The beer is good too. Am a strong supporter of The Bell and in total admiration of the warm, British pub atmosphere and welcoming food and staff for many years, particularly recently. However, I only wish the waitress on duty the night we ate was as warm and welcoming as the food, we all felt as if we were an inconvenience, no rapport, no smile, no empathy when we asked for the chunks of fridge cold Stilton served on our burgers to be melted rather than simply stuck on top in the buns. I LOVE the Bell and have done for many years, my only advice would be, don't let your staff let you down, I'm sure you all work very hard and I will continue to recommend you and will return for meals, but please serve with a smile!

went for a birthday meal with family. service so slow - took over 35mins to bring 1 starter then nearly 1hr 40mins to get main courses and the food then was barely acceptable; some meals were not hot, looked like they'd been standing - Pub has a serious problem with flies, has ultra violet fly killers hanging in customer area yet insects flying around and landing on food table seating etc. To be frank we couldn't wait to leave and go somewhere else for dessert

My wife and I have been occasional visitors over the years and always found The Bell really welcoming. After a walk at nearby Foxton I popped in with the kids for lunch and was really impressed - one course for £5.95 each represented excellent value. Really good quality food, more than enough for a midday meal, and staff as friendly as ever.

We love this pub! It serves fabulous food at really good prices, 2 courses for £7.00 - you can't beat that! Oh...except on a Monday, when they do steak for £5.95! There is a lovely garden area with a covered area if you need it and, a sort of gallery! Local photographers have examples of their work on the pub walls. We actually bought a stunning hunt horse photograph on our previous visit. Well worth going. We LOVE it at the Bell

First visit to this pub, first impressions are that it is a very traditional village pub. Staff are excellent and the food we ordered was delicious. Will definitely return.

This place is always packed, with good reason: it offers a practically unbeatable value-for-money lunch! Lovely, bustling pub in a quiet village. Book ahead if you are a group.

Having heard good reports about the food went with family for Sunday lunch. Waited rather a long time for the meal to arrive - only four other tables occupied - was rather disappointed that it followed the modern trend of stacking the food in layers in the middle of the plate with Yorkshire Pudding perched precariously on the top. However, the worst part was all the food was just luke warm. So much so that the numerous flies in the room had no difficulty landing on the food without burning their feet! We remarked to the waitress that the food was barely warm which just produced a shrug of her shoulders. Would not return for a Sunday lunch.

What a super little inn. A lot of country pubs in Leicestershire do not serve lunches on a Monday. However, The Bell did not disappoint with their reasonably priced special board. The salmon was beautifully presented and very tasty, as was the vegetarian dish that my friend chose. Had the Eton Mess which completed an excellent lunch. Staff were very friendly and attentive as was the pub atmosphere. Worth a visit.

Did our 1st long cycle trip on our new E bikes today and came here for lunch after visiting Foxton Locks - been here once before and remembered how nice it was - fantastic again, I had an omelette, chips and salad, hubby Fish and Chips, other two had crusty bread sandwiches (think big ciabatta type) with chips and salad garnish - add a starter for a £1 - we had two pates - all in all lovely food, just right, well cooked and served with a smile - nothing too much trouble - needed a plaster - for a cut knee - no problem - total bill for 4 lunches + 2 starters, 2 beers, cokes, limes and sodas and cider, less than £50 - lovely pub, great staff, the garden area was beautiful we really comfy patio chairs and we parked our bikes on the drive, this is definitely on my go to destinations if I can face another 30 mile bike ride. Oh and the toilets were lovely and clean - this place is JUST how a local country pub should be - it ticks all the boxes - highly recommended.

We were looking for lunch in and around Market Harborough on a Monday but found all of the pubs we found were closed but the manager of one suggested we go to The Bell which would certainly be open, and so it was.

3 small soda and limes for £4.20. Too many people sitting close to the free food at the bar on a weekend day.

There are three pubs within walking distance of Foxton Locks and this time we made a good choice of The Bell. Friendly staff, a good village local with interesting photographs on display, good beer, and food that was both excellent quality (and genuinely home cooked - fish pie and rhubarb crumble) and excellent value. Next night we visited another of the Foxton area pubs and were able to say that by comparison The Bell is definitely best value. Thank you. Well done!

"The Bell Inn" is a proper English pub., in a pretty village, and although there is no car park, as such, there is plenty of very acceptable, safe parking available in the wide main street, outside.

Had a very nice meal, asparagus wrapped in bacon was delicious followed by rack of lamb special. Always a warm welcome at the Bell. A good walk across the fields from Foxton Locks, about a mile by road. Good destination for walkers, muddy boots not too much of a problem. Usually an open fire in winter.

Love the food here. Service great too. Set in the sleepy village of Gumley, this ancient pub is a real relic of yesteryear Cosy fires. A landlord/lady who chat to customers. Far better than the more celebrated rival down the road.

The service is top-notch, with friendly and helpful staff always ready to assist. What impresses me the most is their well-stocked inventory, offering a wide variety of products. Whether I need groceries, household items, the Post Office or a quick snack, I can count on finding it here. It's a true gem in our community, and I highly recommend Gilmorton Village Store to everyone.

Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere. Food & drinks very reasonable. Food very tasty, nice to find a pub with good wholesome food, and not a gastro-pub.
