We found this pub to be rather unclean, the staff totally indifferent to the customers and they served used glasses.

Ate in the restaurant whilst staying at the hotel. Quite a few tables were taken in the plain dining room The menu was basic pub fare with a couple of 'specials' The young lad serving was trying his best. My starter from the specials was excellent - tempura squid with spicy sauce. The fish and chips were fine. So a decent no frills meal at the right price.

Went in for dinner during our last week of 4 weeks staying in Helmsdale. Wish we had taken the time to have visited earlier in our stay. We both enjoyed our meals, crispy prawns & garlic mushrooms to start followed by sweet & sour chicken and Balmoral chicken. Not fine dining but good honest tasty food and excellent value for money. Wine was also good (Merlot & Rose Zinfandel). Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, maybe next time. The young waitress provided a very good service, friendly, efficient and not intrusive. Overall a very pleasant evening, even the background music was to our taste, we will certainly return.

Returning home from a long day out, we decided to find a good restaurant, but being midweek in mid-September, the first 2 places we tried weren't serving food. We ended up taking a punt on the Belgrave Arms, arriving just before the restaurant closed. The place was nearly empty but the staff said were in time for food. I couldn't fault the waitress - professional, courteous and attentive - and the food ranged from perfectly good to excellent. I tried sweet & sour chicken and the sauce was probably the best I've tasted. SWMBO liked the burger and was impressed by the fruit roulade. The food came quickly, not surprising since the kitchen wasn't busy, and in good portions. Maybe we just picked a good night, but I think we'll be back to check.

Spent a week in Helmsdale with my grown up family and had a brilliant time. Spent a fair bit of time in the bar of The Belgrave Arms playing darts and pool with the locals. Proper old school pub. Then on our last night we ate in the restaurant. There were 7 of us. Two lasagne, one curry and a steak. Three of us had the seafood platter. Huge plate piled with langoustines, lobster and crab with new potatoes, salad and dips. Fantastic. Loved it. Will be back. TIP- If you want the seafood order it the day before. Cheers.

Good selection of food on the menu, very friendly, attentive staff. Our steak locally sourced (medium rare) was cooked to perfection. Very reasonably priced. Hotel exterior showing it's age, however main eating area was fresh and clean.

Crammed into a tiny cupboard off from the main bar, with a hole in the ceiling. Food was ok tho' it was just marred by the service and the location.

Best place in town to eat! The food is amazing - everything from haggis, which is delicious, to steaks and a great selection of fresh seafood. The owners and staff are extremely hospitable and helpful. Our little guy fell asleep during dinner and they pulled out a playpen and blanket so that we could enjoy the rest our meal. Not many places that will help out like that. We always look forward to going to the Belgrave and can't wait to come back next year!

Granted it was a busy night in Helmsdale but the owner / burger flipper was hopelessly out of his depth. He rejected us, a group of 40/50 somethings for swearing (which we didn't) by swearing himself. The young girl attempting to serve us was clearly a newish start but was infinitly more professional than Gordon Pansy.

The meals are delicious. Hot, tasty, made to order. Desserts are wonderful, too. No complaints. Serving staff is friendly, but not annoying. Dining room is attractively decorated.

Being so close to the sea its not surprising how fresh the seafood here is. It was the best ive had in a long time and my daughter enjoyed the kids meal that was prepared for her

We stayed in the village for a week and enjoyed a couple of meals in the dining room and cold drinks in the beer garden which bosts a lovely view of the harbour and Emigrants statue. The food itself was nice and the staff friendly and welcoming but the jewel in this place's crown is definately the seafood platters. Generous portions of mussels, lobster, crab, and langastines, all fresh from the sea, well cooked and served with a delicious lemon and garlic dip and perfectly roasted potatoes. If we are ever in the area again, we will definately return.

We stayed in Helmsdale for three nights. First night we ate in the Belgrave Arms Restaurant. We were a little concerned when we entered the restaurant and found ourselves alone in the dining room. Several tables were filled by the time we left. Atmosphere not exciting or even attractive. Very pleasant waiter - had a nice chat with him. The meal was adequate, nothing to write home about -- that was two weeks ago and I cannot even remember what my wife or I had to eat. There's a better place to go in town.

We went to this hotel for an evening meal. The service was adequate and the waitress was pleasant and helpful. we ordered our meal and the starters were just about adequate, but my breaded mushrooms were overcooked. The main course came and all appeared to be overcooked. Three of my party, who don't like to complain, managed to eat their meal despite being, presumably, over microwaved. My balmoral chicken (breast of chicken stuffed with haggis an wrapped in bacon..........sounded good!) was almost solid and I had to send it back at the end of the meal as it was inedible. To be fair to the hotel, they did knoick £5 off the bill.Regrettably we will not be using this restaurant again.I have no knowledge of the other services of the hotel.

We hosted our wedding at the Waterside in June 2024 - it was a lovely & fun day for all, largely due to the help of our wedding coordinator Tiff! She went above & beyond to help me have a picturesque & fun day, I didn't have to worry about the setup or the breakdown - she even saved one of my wedding donuts for me when I never got a chance to have one during the night :) The reason for the loss of a star for the rooms is purely because the honeymoon suite lacked a mini fridge >> which I think would have been really helpful as we had several leftovers + wine we wanted to keep chilled. The loss of the star for service was due to some miscommunication between the hotel bookings & the event coordination, (i.e. after we had paid our deposit, someone on the booking side at the hotel had "force booked" several rooms for the day of the wedding for another guest/party, including the honeymoon suite) - which my husband spoke to the manager about & thankfully they resolved before the day.

Slow. Nasty and tasteless. Avoid with every being of your heart. The one down by the river is much better I can't recall the name but far tastier.

We had drinks and a meal yesterday, early evening. The staff were very welcoming and the bar, although small was busy with a good atmosphere. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious; perfectly cooked fish, light batter and the triple cooked chips were the best I’ve ever had. They are dog friendly so we’ll be back next week with our dog. Thank you.
