The Waterside Hotel in Highland

There's a lot of choice for restaurants in Inverness. We chose this one for a birthday dinner because the menu appealed - not extensive but varied and enticing - and it didn't disappoint. The flavours had been extremely well combined (e.g. a tangy sauce with the scallops & black pudding) and every course was delicious; the service was relaxed but attentive, and all in a really nice setting by the river. Also, we were able to sit and chat for 3 hours without being herded out of our seats, which is becoming increasingly uncommon with restaurants in the area, and made for an outstanding evening. Big thumbs-up to the whole team at the Waterside - we shall return.

Overall, the restaurant was good, but there is significant room for improvement in the service. We ordered several dishes along with mocha I was surprised to be served coffee in an espresso cup, something I had never encountered before. As someone who is very passionate about coffee and has visited countless cafés, this was unexpected. I noticed that the table next to us had a large cup for their coffee, yet the waitress did not ask us what size we would like. Additionally, we paid around £4 for this small cup. On another note, the vegetable soup was not cooked properly, as the peas were still tough. Additionally, we felt that the waitress did not treat us well.

We had a pleasure of dining at the Waterside restaurant during our stay at the Glen Mohr Hotel. Breakfast buffet was delicious, wide choice of cooked breakfast (very tasty haggis!), cereal, muesli, pastries, yogurt… Staff was very attentive and even at the busiest time during breakfast they would take care to keep your tea/coffee refill going. We decided to go for a dinner there on Friday night and it was such a discovery. Food quality was great. Once again, service very attentive. Our food came out quickly and also disappeared quite quickly off our plates as it was so good. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food and the fact that restaurant has a prime location with a view of the river Ness. We also liked the ambience and Christmas decor which brought a festive spirit to the place. We liked it so much that we decided to dine there again during our stay and not looked any further. Mind on there is 10% service charge, which is pretty standard in most restaurants now, however, I’d say that the service offered justifies it, which I cannot say about lots of other places. I recommend to book a table as it was quite busy at the weekends.

We hosted our wedding at the Waterside in June 2024 - it was a lovely & fun day for all, largely due to the help of our wedding coordinator Tiff! She went above & beyond to help me have a picturesque & fun day, I didn't have to worry about the setup or the breakdown - she even saved one of my wedding donuts for me when I never got a chance to have one during the night :) The reason for the loss of a star for the rooms is purely because the honeymoon suite lacked a mini fridge >> which I think would have been really helpful as we had several leftovers + wine we wanted to keep chilled. The loss of the star for service was due to some miscommunication between the hotel bookings & the event coordination, (i.e. after we had paid our deposit, someone on the booking side at the hotel had "force booked" several rooms for the day of the wedding for another guest/party, including the honeymoon suite) - which my husband spoke to the manager about & thankfully they resolved before the day.

Travelling across Scotland and sampling all the different sticky toffee pudding, this was the best so far. I said it has an additional flavor, the waitress told me what it was, their own stout! *Chefs kiss* amazing. We ended up here after our distillery tour. Had the Scotch egg and Sunday roast for dinner and it was superb. Friendly, relaxing and enjoyable. Ended off with a delicious flat white coffee sweetened with Tablet caramel. Yummy. Then took a stroll around the river, perfect night.

We had both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant, and the dinner was absolutely delicious. The food and drinks were excellent. Our Hungarian server was incredibly friendly and helpful, even giving us advice on where to go and what to see near Inverness. He was lovely, and his service was outstanding.

The food is quite good. The waiters were friendly and beyond attentive and fast, we were finished with our food after less than an hour. Thanks to their own brewery, they serve their own beer. Amazing! What more could you want?

After a short guided tour through the distillery and brewery and a nice whiskey and beer tasting we had a reservation for the adjacent restaurant. The food was tasty, the staff was nice and the service well organised. Everything was really lovely and above average. We didn't stay at the hotel, but next time we're in Inverness, we definitly will.

Hotel takes up most of the street.

Very good restaurant! On the other hand, the staff at the reception of the restaurant and the terrible service. Very inappropriate attitude towards customers, shifty glances... we were very embarrassed.

We were staying at the nearby Glen Mohr Hotel, arrived late from the Isle of Skye and entered the restaurant by 8:25pm, without a reservation. There appeared to be plenty of empty tables but we were refused service, told there were no available tables. We left, noticed there were at 10 empty tables, then went back in. The manager looked us straight in the face and said all these tables were booked with 8:30pm reservations. He advised us to go elsewhere as restaurants closed at 9pm. We found a restaurant nearby, finished a quick dinner by 9:15, and when walking back by the Waterside Restaurant, saw it was completely empty, dark, no one in sight. The manager blatantly lied to us. If they don't take clients 30 min before closing, they should say that, not make up a lie.

Quite a limited menu, the only thing I could choose was fish and chips but I know I'm quite fussy. That said it was one of the best tasting meals I've had. It wasn't a cheap meal, but considering the quality of food and service it was a fair price, and I still left a tip too. I would definitely take my partner back to give her a treat.

Due to some of the recent negative reviews, we were apprehensive at first, but we are glad we gave it a chance! Our meal for two was great. The sauce of the mussel appetizer tasted delicious, I wanted more bread to eat it all. Our fish main courses, salmon and a fish and chips, we're hot and tasty. The sticky pudding desert was excellent. Our service was also great. Waitress was attentive, and everything came out fast and hot.

Ate very well. A quick lunch but the place was truly up to par for the money spent. Excellent view of the river that flows a few meters away.

We had a reservation at the restaurant but upon arrival they took a while to find the booking. We had a window table overlooking the river although the dining area was a bit cramped as the conservatory was fractionally too narrow to allow free passage with waiting staff coming and going at a busy time. The waiter who served us was very good as was the waitress who brought us our wine, very personable. We we expecting the conventional menu so we're a bit disappointed when it was a restricted Sunday menu which wasn't clear on the website. We shared a mussels starter which was sublime. Complimentary fresh bread with an interesting homemade butter was served. The tarragon chicken with green beans and fries was flavoursome and light. The fish and chips were good with a very light, perfectly cooked batter. The dish also had peas and tartare sauce. We also had a Scottish cheeseboard, which was substantial to share and had a good selection of breads, crackers, celery, and grapes. There was pickle too, but we didn't try this as we aren't big fans of brown pickle. The dish was well presented on a wooden chopping board but was a tad cold from the fridge and could have benefitted from being left out a bit earlier to get to room temperature thereby enhancing the flavour and taste. When I asked about the name of one of the cheeses, the waiter very kindy brought out a whole cheese to show me its name and provenance (Old Smokey - Isle of Kintyre). The service was attentive but not rushed. The menu had a choice of two or three course options for a set price, which represented great value for money. In the main, the restaurant was clean and had nice decor. We would definitely return to try the fuller menu. There are only a few quality restaurants in Inverness but this is certainly one of them and that mussel dish is a must!

A beautiful hotel .Such a shame about it's rip off prices for drinks.2 Glasses of wine £16.50 !Come on guys that is daylight robbery!! Would have appreciated a reply from them to justify how they charge such astronomical prices !!

The sandwiches looked a lot better than they tasted. With a little effort and inspiration they could easily be improved. In the current state it's way overpriced. There was no service for people seated outside.

Very disappointing lunch at Beer Garden: The pretentious portions were very small compared to the price £££. Definitely room for improvement. ...But: Nice location!

I've had a fair few Haggis, neeps and tatties and Cullen Skink in my travel of the highlands and this has by FAR been the best. The views of the river ness and the cathedral are GORGEOUS and the service in very attentive. I highly recommend!!

We enjoyed a delicious two course Sunday dinner there recently. Staff were very attentive and the food came quickly. In a most beautiful location right by the River Ness, you couldn't really ask for anything more.

Overated,food was ok ,but for what we got was quite embarrassing. Very cheap meal to put together, pate to start, bowl of spaghetti, and a dessert, meant to be great dining experience????.

Very nicely located and equipped restaurant with a wonderful outdoor area. Unfortunately, the sound of current pop music is far too loud outside and inside. We just wanted to drink a coffee, we then had to order it ourselves at the bar and carry it out. You got the feeling that everything was quite chaotic and the barman was completely overwhelmed. The cappuccino was good but small.

Celebrated our 25th anniversary here in March and enjoyed fine dining while watching the sunset over Western Inverness. Very satisfied with food selection, wines, and drinks. Thanks for everything.

Best Fish & Chips I have had im whole Scotland. Definitely a must when eating there. The Fish is battered in their local beer that thez produce in the Uilebheisr brewery. The view is also really nice and the staff is very friendly. They also do breakfast buffet there in the morning for hotel guests, really nice.

Had breakfast in the waterside, met at reception and shown to our table, tea/ coffee and toast brought to the table with the hot and cold breakfast food being help yourself. All food very nice with a view of the river Ness from the restaurant

My boyfriend and I had a lovely dinner at The Waterside. The host was attentive and made me feel so welcome as a visitor from the States. The gin & cucumber cocktail was particularly lovely. I can’t wait to return!

Most delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding and whiskey cream sauce over steak ever.

We visited here for the first time today with extended family who have been here many times before. The food was so beautiful and tasty. Desert, especially the 1st one on the menu, was to live for. My 5 year old daughter had options to choose from the kids menu, my wife had great chicken, I had vegetarian options. The soup of the day was superb. Food was not only presented fantastically but was oh so tasty. The setting was wonderful, next to the road on Ness River with an outdoor option available but we sat at the lit indoors this afternoon. Thank you for a wonderfully satisfying lunch.

Honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. Staff were excellent, friendly and extremely attentive. Food was genuinely outstanding and the atmosphere was fantastic, with some fantastic music in the background. I will definitely be back!

我們住在旁邊的格倫姆霍飯店，沒有住在這裡，不過早餐是在這邊使用的，也是我們在尼斯最好的體驗👍 工作人員非常有禮貌、貼心、而且勤勞😘進入餐廳的時候，提醒我們小心地板上的凸起落差，並且很詳細的介紹的餐廳的規範和用餐方式，咖啡和茶是直接來桌邊加的，吐司有很多種，也是直接送到位置上，我們被安排在靠近窗戶的完美座位，期間主動幫我們加了三次咖啡和茶，真的非常感謝 自助餐的部分也非常完美，雞蛋很有彈性而且很濕潤，不會乾乾的，黑布丁的口感也很好，我發現每個地方的黑布丁調味不太一樣，優格應該是自製的，有果醬和蜂蜜可以搭配，水果很特別，是放在大碗裡面的，很用心的一道沙拉！ 我們另外點了燻鮭魚和雞蛋£4，很划算也很好吃！

El personal que atiende es muy amable Mesas grandes, manteles textiles, sillas comodas, aseos limpios. Primer plato: un pate normal muy escaso Segundo plato: Pescado cocido de dificil catalogacion, posiblemente fletan. No muy fresco. Postre: Browning bueno. Para no repetir. No lo recomiendo.

Restaurante especializado en comidas de grupo. Nosotros habíamos encargado un menú cerrado para 36 comensales. El entrante consistió en un simple trozo de paté en una cama de ensalada y tres pequeñas tostadas. El plato principal fue una ración de pescado hervido con puré de patata y zanahorias. Resultó bastante insípido, de sabor indefinible, que mejoró algo al añadirle sal y pimienta. De postre nos pusieron una pequeña porción de tarta de chocolate negro que estaba muy rica. Sin duda fue lo mejor de la comida. El servicio fue muy atento y eficaz. Destacamos que había cinco tipos de cerveza de grifo artesanales, elaboradas en Inverness.

We visited the Waterside Restaurant in August. We had made reservations and were looking forward to having a nice meal and enjoying the scenery. . There were four in our party, and I ordered fish and chips. I have to say it was the worst fish and chips I had all the time I visited Scotland and I have eaten lots of fish and chips. I did not finish the fish but did eat the chips. When I mentioned it to the waiter he didn't seem to care one way or the other. Out of the four of us only one person thought their meal was good. I think the food is over priced for the quality and the service needs to be improved.

Poor service, casual staff. Watch out for the sneaky 10% ’suggested service charge’ at the bottom of the bill, it’s added automatically, so you have to ask to remove it if you don’t think it’s acceptable. I wouldn’t be going back. ☹️

Beautiful restaurant on the banks of the river ness. Service 1st class with Dee, Shane and Eleanor very friendly welcoming and pleasant. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Drinks fab. Would highly recommend and I most definitely be back for meal.

Very unfriendly place. We wanted to have breakfast Arrived at 10 am and told us that breakfast is until 10 am We said, "Can we have coffee or tea ? " The lady said : " the machine is not turned on ,so we can't have something to drink! " WE LEFT VERY DISAPPOINTED. I couldn't understand what the problem was! The coffee machine or my African husband? Either way, the bad, rude ,unkind behavior is NOT acceptable!

7:30 on a Saturday night with 25 plus tables open, but because we didn't have a reservation they wouldn't seat us. Walked back past at 9:07. Still had about 15 tables open. I only needed a table for 2. Wouldn't ever go to the restaurant again. Hostess was extremely rude

Amazing restaurant at the Glen Mohr Hotel.

We were there for lunch. There was only one other couple there when we came. They were serving 4 different main dishes. We ordered 2 beef bourgogne with mashed potatoes. The stew should have been ready to just put on a plate and serve. We had to wait 30 minutes before it arrived and a couple that came in after us was served food before us. Not ok. They also put a service charge on the bill while asking us to go up to the desk and pay. Provide service if you're going to charge for it. The food was fine, a bit bland.

Went to eat a Roast Sunday Lunch, before going in, just asked the front of house staff could my wife have her beef well done. They could not be bothered to ask the kitchen, just said no. We walked away. What is wrong with businesses. Just don't care.

Beautiful setting, excellent service and first class food - in a city that sets a very high bar for that From the greeting on arrival to the perfectly pitched service to the welcoming ambience to the blissfully discreet background music to the tasty, quality meal it was a faultless experience - one we hope to repeat soon.

The food was delicious. You typically need a booking (reservation), but that goes for everywhere in Scotland.

Four of us were here for the two course Sunday evening meal. Restaurant pleasantly full. Three of us had the fish. The fourth chicken supreme. All beautiful. Unfortunately the rhubarb crumble was finished so two had the sticky toffee pudding, one something in a glass, the fourth the cheese board. Again, all great. Three of us had coffee and we also had one Pepsi and two glasses of wine. Very reasonably priced. Service exceptional and with a smile.

Exceptionally poor service and rude staff. Table booked online for 7pm, turned up a few mins late to be told kitchen shuts at 7pm and we were turned away. No indication on website as to last order time or we would have booked an earlier arrival. Made to feel stupid.

Epic! Wow this place blew me away! There was a fairly limited selection of vegetarian meals, so I didn't have massively high hopes. However, I espied a Cheese Soufflé on the menu. Now this is a mythical creature I have only heard about in film and TV. So with trepidation I ordered it.. Wowzer!! Amazing! My partner has tempura veg which was also excellent! We had cauliflower burgers which were also really great. Service was superb with Shane, a genuinely interested person waiting our table. Overall we feel special and I feel honoured to have had such a perfect soufflé. Not that I know what that is. Seriously though the chef should consider making the soufflé a main course with some extras.

We were extremely disappointed with the food we have eaten at the restaurant The dishes were overcooked and in poor taste. I strongly believe that the food is extremely overpriced. (6 prawns on its own for +£9.00 ) Customer service also wasn’t good enough. It looked like there was on one waiter having to serve all the tables. So she kept constantly running in between the tables….

RUDE, NO MANNER! The old lady was rude, no manner, did not bother to say 'excuse me, I'm sorry, or thank you. I stayed at the hotel and had breakfast in this restaurant. I finished my meal and waited for the tour. I was about to touch up and do my eyebrow with one pencil, NO MAKE UP GEAR OR MAKE UP CASE OR OTHER MAKE UP AROUND THE TABLE. But, this old lady came, asked my room number. I told her, "it is ok, I finished my meal just now. I just need to fix my make up a bit and will leave soon." She told me, "this table is for eating, if you are not eating, you can do your make up inthe toilet, we have toilet. people are eating here." NO PEOPLE AROUND ME AT ALL. So who are those "people are eating"? Besides, I travelled around the world and saw countless ladies do touch upafter meal, either it is lipstick even adding mascara. No big deal. It is not that i brought whole make up gear and do full on make up.. My HIGHLIGHT is MANNER! Even though she thought I was wrong, can she said excuse me or im sorry first before telling me off????? Did this restaurant never teach manners and attitudes to their employees??? Or IS IT BECAUSE I AM ASIAN?

Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely service, great location, nice vibes and interior. Prices are reasonable, however pate from nibbles menu came with a ridiculously tiny thin singular slice of “brioche”, which vas very strange… Also I wish it stated on the menu that gnocchi came with tomato sauce, it sort of was a key feature of that dish overwhelming mushrooms and spinach, for someone who doesn’t like tomato sauces that would be disappointing… However the cottage pie, beef blade and chicken were absolutely delicious, I had to ask for more sauce for beef which was sorted out for me in an instant! Overall happy! But the image of a microscopic brioche will haunt me for a while … P.S. we were happy to tip, but I really don’t get when it is automatically included in the bill, makes you want to tip less 🤷‍♀️

Wonderful food served with a smile. My only criticism is that the cheese and oatcakes were more expensive than the other desserts (which I don't mind) but was only served 3 oatcakes with 3 morsels of cheese. Funnily it came with a vat of relish/chutney which made up the bulk of my pudding. Everything else including my steak, haggis bon bins were perfection. Definitely visit again.

This is the second time in just under a year I have visited this restaurant. First time both of us ordered fillet steak to be told there was none left and toon the ribeye as an option. After we had out starter a table of 4 came in and ordered fillet to be told they never had any and then back tracked and where told they found fillet steaks. I did say to the waiter and the ribeye where taken off the bill. This time around ordered. Fillet again and when it arrived a 1/3 of It was fat. I never said anything at the time as I think a chef should know not to give that out. Shame I like the restaurant but the chef should be checking what is going out especially at the cost.

Terrible meal. I am so angry we only complained about my wife's soup starter and her chicken supreme both requiring reheating. My own starter, chicken liver pate' was grainy and completely tastless. My fillet steak was a solid mass off hard gristle, inedible. My wife's ice cream was ordered as three flavours, there was only two. My own sweet was sticky toffee pudding which was very tasty but the chef was obviously taking no chances of having to reheat anything else asit was over heated and crunchy. Truthfully, the worste meal out we've ever had. The manager to his credit didn't charge us for one of my wife's reheated courses. Still disappointed I paid over £100 .

I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Excellent service, food and a lovely location beside the river Ness. Staff very friendly and so helpful. I had mushroom and spinach risotto( delicious) and my partner had steak which was done to perfection. Will definitely be visiting again. If I can recommend a dessert..have the Sticky Toffee pudding!! 10/10

The view is wonderful, though the place is too pricey for the amount and quality of food they give. Staff made me feel like I don't fit in with my hiking gear. The Nicoise salad was okay, but too few and the tuna steak was under cooked and salty. The only gluten free option is to leave out parts of the dish, but pay the same.

Beer garden review. My burger was not worth £16. My friends baked Camembert was inedible. The veggie platter arrived without humous. The prices are expensive for this quality of food. I felt the staff were stressed and took it out on the customers.

Ristorante nel centro di Inverness in riva al fiume. Dopo aver ordinato, abbiamo atteso 40 minuti i piatti. Porzioni piccole e prezzi elevati. I camerieri non si preoccupano dei tavoli. Alla richiesta di ordinare un altro piatto, alle 21.30 ci è stato detto che la cucina era chiusa e potevamo ordinare solo dolci (8 sterline l'uno). Esperienza pessima.

Lucha at the Beer Garden: Late, expensive and food terrible!

Located on the banks of the river Ness, it is the restaurant of the Glen Mhor hotel. The large conservatory has views to the river and uses a soft palette of greys contrasting with the light stained wooden tables and floor. Dark and busy wallpaper. As it got darker, with the lights on it looked much cosier. The smart looking waiters wearing black trouser, white shirt and black tie, provide an upmarket feel with relaxed atmosphere, but couldn't help to feel all a bit rushed. Starter of gin cured salmon, fennel and horseradish cream and main of seared tuna steak on a bed of niçoise salad with a french mustard dressing Lemon cheesecake as dessert. The dishes have good presentation but overall I felt the food a bit under par, more style than substance. I've had better niçoise salad in a normal bistro restaurant and the cheesecake had the wrong texture. Not that the food was bad, just not to the standard I expected. It seems to cater mostly for hotel guests than for an outsider looking for a fine dining experience. The staff were lovely thou, very professional, attentive and pleasant.

Went for lunch to celebrate anniversary. Fish cake starter lacked a dressing, not even salad leaves with it. Main course of roast lamb consisted of one slice of meat which soon reduced in size once the fat was removed. The vegetables were hiding under the meat and the Yorkshire pudding was cold. Overall the meal was very disappointing and not worth the money. We won't be back.

Joli cadre mais plats décevants: l’assortiment de pain s’avère être deux pains similaires, les nuggets du menu enfants sont du congelés très secs, mon bœuf mariné était de la viande haché le burger trop cuit et le camembert rôti bourré de grosses gousses d’ail. Nous avons attendu longtemps et payé trop cher pour ce résultats. Dommage le cadre et le personnel étaient sympathiques.

Nice place in the sunny beergarden by the waterside. Quiet and relaxing - perfect.

I had a vegan salade nicoise and it was most lousy salade I ever had! The price for this poor salade was actually 15,95 pound. I asked for some bread because it was a very small salad of 1 egg, a half tomato and 1 small potato and four leaves of salad. The bread never arrived. I hate this kind of swindle!

Hola a todos! Nos volvimos locos porque los sitios con buena puntuación estaban llenos y hay que resevar sí o sí, estamos a finales de julio, ... y este restaurabte a pesar de tener 4,0, lo seleccionamos dejándonos llevar por reseña previa... Sólo cenamos, pero si pides los tradicionales Haggis Bonbon Niggle con Baked Camembert y acabas con Lamb Rump (cordero), el resultado es perfecto... Cenamos dos, pero también tengo que avisar que no somos de mucho comer, por lo que a lo mejor os queda hueco para el postre... En cuanto al precio, normal para Escocia y UK... lo que es claramente caro para los estándares españoles, incluso de las zonas más caras como Pozuelo en Madrid..., en fin, es lo que hay... Y, aunque se les ve a los camareros con prisa te atienden profesionalmente y se preocupan por entenderte.. Y el sitio, en la ribera del rio Ness, hacen que pases una velada muy agradable. ¡Que lo disfrutéis!

Nice setting and service. However the food was disappointing, especially for the price. The 'assortment of breads' turned out to be a pair of identical small bread buns. The food was bland and lacked flavour. Good thing there was salt and pepper on the table! This place needs to overhaul its menu.

The food is okay, not the best i have had. I do not think that the service is that good, the staf is very young. And that is also the same for the beer garden. Nice location with a view of the river ness.

Appalling service and appalling food. I had the tuna. It was like warm on the outside and grey (not seated) and cool on the inside. A substandard piece of tuna with stringy bits inside. Potato wedges were greasy and cold. Beans over cooked and not a large number. Husband had the chicken. Awful basically inedible. Service was slow and staff seems not to have a care in the world. Stay away from here

Sadly the receptionist at the associated Glenmhor Hotel was not very welcoming however the colleagues in the Waterside were a bit more hospitable.
