This was a surprise afternoon tea birthday treat for a family member and the food was very poor with dry sandwiches half a scone without butter and supermarket style buns. We were expecting home baked produce but no such luck. Customer service requires improvement as staff seemed overrun and lacked supervision at this busy time. Unfortunately the experience was not enjoyable and a complete waste of money so we will definitely not be returning despite the pleasant location (for which the 1 star is awarded)

Absolutely appalling! Would 1000% never recommend this place to anyone! High tea.... nothing high about it Small dainty sandwiches all with shop bought fillings Small dainty cakes again all shop bought No sign of scones at all! Tea tasted medicinal and was awful! And don't even get me started on the owner, she's rude and obnoxious - she was rude to her staff infront of customers - there's a time, place and way to say it and you definitely didn't go it the right way - I felt sorry for one of the staff members and if I was her I would have walked out and never come back! £30.90 paid for something so dreadful! Will NOT be returning and to be honest I'm surprised your still open!

We have seen this place on Facebook, it always looked very nice, unfortunately it didn’t live upto what we thought was going to be good. We had a high tea each £12.50 each, we had some sandwiches which were very nice but the pork pie sausage rolls, quiche seemed like shop bought and cut into pieces, the same with the small cakes, this was advertised with a scone but there wasn’t a scone with it so when we made enquiries the waitress said they don’t put it on as people leave it. We said we would like it she did offer cream and jam or butter. Another big disappointment was the coffee which came out of a machine was luke warm and served in a very small china teacup costing us a further £2.50. I would have thought that tea or coffee would have been included in the high tea. We were very very disappointed to say the least. Unfortunately we won’t be going back.

The afternoon tea was so disappointing to ones I have had in different places. We were told we would have to sit outside as we had a dog which was fair enough we didn’t mind that. The garden is lovely but my husband took our dog onto the grass to look at the view only to be shouted at to get the dog off the grass and take it on the road. I have gone to do this review three times but because of the vitriolic remarks from the owner at other negative comments I stopped but then decided other dog owners need to know that it is certainly not dog friendly!

We visited the Beestro for lunch, to be fair it was with a little trepidation and a lot of curiosity based on some of the reviews we had read. The views are indeed stunning. The staff were helpful and friendly. We decided to try the high tea. At £12.50 a head we thought it was excellent value. We had a selection of sandwiches on both brown and white bread, a small pork pie, some quiche and a savoury pastry. There was also a lot of small bite size pies of different cakes ,half a scone , meringue and finger size fancy. Whilst the pies, quiche and some of the cakes were shop bought, we both thought it was really good value for money and was presented beautifully, the savoury plates finished off with some chopped salad and the cake plate dressed with rose petals, flowers and mint. There was more than enough to eat. All enjoyed outside in the sunshine with a fabulous view.

Our first visit here this year and we were sadly disappointed. I have been here many times, buy the honey and enjoyed the food. However, we ordered scones and cake today and had to send the scones back, they were heavy, undercooked and sad. We wondered if they’d been frozen. The cake too was heavy and sad. The staff were doing their best and remained polite but seemed overwhelmed. No chickens wandering about today either. Location and views are exceptional but I hope the manager takes on board that there needs to be a commitment to quality of food.

Beautiful view and grounds with so much potential. However the food (we had high tea) was such low quality and bland that we instantly regretted spending our money eating there. Although the majority of places that you have high tea etc require a notice period of at least 24 hours, the exception being places such as Betty's that are known for their afternoon tea. So perhaps we should have expected it to be anything more than what it was. We've since heard of new additions to the site such as the gatsbee and the concept of this seems confused. There's no art Deco decadence you'd expect from the name but Mediterranean orange grove vinyls featuring the owner on the windows which seems odd. With honey being sold from the property, it seems this could be their unique selling point and they could make foods containing honey and advertise this as that rather than serving what they currently offer. They could probably benefit from some sort of interior design and business management advice due to the muddled up offering.

After wanting to eat here since we stumbled across it a few weeks ago, I took my mum to visit for lunch today. We opted for High Tea and a Prawn and Salmon Salad. Nothing wowed us about the meal, the prawns were chewy and only a small portion. The sandwiches were satisfactory, but the quiche, sausage roll and scone were minute portions. I’d rather pay a bit more and be able to appreciate the taste of these. We ordered a flat white and hot chocolate and these both came in small tea cups, which just didn’t seem appropriate to serve them in. Like some other reviews, this place has such potential, but the food is not worth returning for.

We had an absolutely fantastic visit to the Beestro today for afternoon tea as a treat for my mum’s birthday. Our food was so lovely, and a perfect portion for lunchtime. The waitresses were so kind and friendly - and we had a really lovely chat with Gloria. Please don’t listen to the reviews about the Beestro ‘not being dog friendly’. I took my dog, and were seated on the beautiful patio which really didn’t take anything away from the experience. Absolutely 10/10 all round and we can’t wait to return!

The location was beautifully set in lovely gardens. The staff were friendly enough. The high tea was very disappointing and of very poor value. The sandwich was on basic white bread. There was no choice of filling just ham and cheese. A very small bite size portion of the following pork pie, quiche, half a small sausage roll, half a small scone and the tiniest finger of a white rocky road. The service was chaotic to say the least. Sad really as it has the potential to be a very successful business.

Three of us visited for a light lunch. The potential here is enormous. The food itself was excellent, but its presentation appalling. Although we sat in the cafe where plates, cups, etc were on full view, meals were served in cardboard boxes and drinks in polystyrene cups. Utensils were all disposable wood, with milk in capsules. Sitting and eating a salad out of a cardboard box with a wooden fork is what I would expect out of a food van at a festival, not from Troway Hall. We had two paninis and a salad, one tea and four coffees served in cardboard and polystyrene for £43. All very sad.

We have visited previously in the past and had a lovely visit but today I didn’t feel very welcome. As we arrived we were told that dogs could only sit on the patio which we were not aware of. He wasn’t even allowed to walk on the grass to get to the patio. As someone with Autism, if I had known this was the rule I could have been more prepared. It came as a bit of a shock as there is some lovely views which we couldn’t see from the patio. I understand covid is still around but the food was a bit pricey to say it came in cardboard boxes. It was lovely food though. Reading the past reviews it seems I’m not the only one a bit sad by the dog rule. I am in no way writing this review to ruin your business but to let other dog owners be aware of this. Maybe this information could be added to your Facebook page so people understand where they can sit before their visit. Sadly I don’t think we will be returning.

I’m not one for leaving negative reviews but feel I should give some feedback on our visit with friends to the local area. Positives:- stunning views, well kept and cake was lovely. Negatives:- Definitely not dog friendly, I appreciate that not everyone is a fan of dogs, however, we were told that we had to sit on the patio in a small space and dogs not welcome on the grass. My experience is majority of dog owners are responsible and would clear any mess up. Maybe have one section on the grass for dogs. Had to remind the staff to bring cake out as it was clear the order had been forgotten. Two out of four honey beers were out of date.. this was mentioned to the staff but dismissed. On leaving, I took the dog over the grass to head out whilst waiting for friends and was told to get the dog off the grass. This is the most direct way to leave and over the top to pick this up! Overall we didn’t feel that welcome.

Myself and my wife had an amazing baby shower event at the Beestro yesterday. We had a lovely section of the garden right in the corner which made it feel like our own private area which was accompanied by the incredible view. We first went to have a look at the venue back in April. Gloria and Alan were very accommodating in showing us around the site as there was a cabin at the base of the hill you can also choose depending on what you are looking for. We chose to have our baby shower at the top just because the view was so stunning. We had 25 guests which just felt about right but for the area we had you could probably squeeze in a few more if you wanted to. Gloria was ok with us bringing our own cake and balloons. We had some guests which were vegetarian and vegan and were well catered for by the team. Being a baby shower we did have a few showers on and off. The staff members worked really hard trying to keep all the food and seating dry as much as they could. We did also hire a singer called Annie which Gloria hires every Friday at the Beestro and she was absolutely fantastic - very talented lady. It was certainly a day to remember and we will certainly be returning for coffee and cake and maybe other events which Gloria tends to host from time to time. We couldn’t recommend The Beestro enough. Where else could you find where you can enjoy the natural world at its best with so many bee hives and Christmas trees around you, enjoying amazing views like that whilst sipping your coffee?! The service from the staff was also great. Upon writing this review I was very surprised by some of the other reviewers and question the authenticity of some of them, as it was totally not the experience we had. Our day was perfect in soo many ways. Thank you to Gloria, Alan and your wonderful team!

After returning after a year to a place I usually enjoy visiting and buying products from, I was disappointed how my family were ushered away from the grass by the owners who were incredibly rude and told they had to sit with the dogs on a small patio next to a loud speaker which is clearly very distressing for them. The elderly gentleman who I often see there accused my family of not waiting in the correct area and having not made a reservation which I had booked online the previous day. This was not quite the welcome back I was hoping for. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful as was the lovely young girl on the till the only credit to the service we were given today. As soon as Gloria stops her obsession with her grass and alters her attitude to her customers and their dogs It will be a better place.

Our first visit on recommendation - a beautiful view and very friendly and honey knowledgeable staff but so disappointed with the food! Bacon sandwich was extremely dry and overcooked in a very doughy bread cake. Scones too did not taste homemade and again were very heavy. Small paper cups and commercially packaged milk don’t add to the tearoom experience - China cups and teapots are standard elsewhere! All in all not a quality experience or value for money so we won’t be returning!

Had a trip to 'The Beestro' with my wife, parents and brother. Firstly, the view is utterly sublime and worth the trip on it's own. My parents had been here before and told us how good the food was and they weren't wrong. I had an utterly delicious pie, chips and peas with lovely gravy, a very nice latté and shared a very nice brownie with my wife (she grudgingly let me have a smidgen). All of it was wonderful, and it was very reasonably priced. I also took the opportunity to buy some of the bee products (the honey soap is particularly good). We used to very much enjoy going to 'The Inn at Troway' and were very sad when it closed but I am delighted to have found 'The Beestro' and I can guarantee the next time we visit Sheffield we will be returning. PS - I also very much enjoyed the two chickens wandering around (Fifi and Foo-Foo?) which brought back happy memories of when we had our own small flock.

I’m afraid I have mixed reviews about this cafe. My first visit was enjoyable, despite the over priced menu. Staff were friendly and the coffee and cake was good although, not having oat milk available for my coffee was disappointing. My daughter had a panini which she said was good. I visited again a week later with two small dogs. We were told we had to sit on a specific area, not sure why we were confined to a small patio area, why we couldn’t sit on the grass area I’m really not sure? The atmosphere was uncomfortable as we just didn’t feel welcome with our two well behaved dogs. We ate our panini and left as soon as we could. My impression from both visits is that they appear not to be dog friendly in my experience of this visit. No interaction from staff or owners. A couple that walked passed us to sit at a table gave us such a look of disgust that we had dogs. The prices seem very steep for a simple cafe with limited menu and again no oat milk. It is a lovely setting and I am a regular honey buyer but I will give the cafe a miss in future. My dog is like family to me and I appreciate not everyone are dog people but if you are providing a service then everyone should feel welcome and comfortable.

Living in Calow for the last 6 years this pub has continued to disappoint, Landlords coming and going, inconsistent opening times and food being served/not being served. I'm not sure what made me and my wife go again, we know it's under new management again so thought we'd walk down have a pint and a bite to eat, both went for burgers , both reasonably priced and I have to say both very tasty, for nut much more than any fast food restaurant it was well worth the price, we'll definitely be returning. My only little gripe was you had to walk up to the top bar to order, so no table service, that accompanied by the fact the kitchen shuts at 7pm, we normally like to eat a bit later, but all in all, good value and good food.

By 6:30 PM, they had already run out of the special main menu on the board! The food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was subpar. The steak & ale pie was more air than a hot air balloon and hardly had any meat. The crust was burnt and tasted like a heated-up frozen pie. The chips were clearly shop-bought oven chips. This was not the level of service we had experienced before. We left feeling quite disappointed. It seems the place is being sold, and I hope the new owners can bring back some quality!
