We were visiting Alcester and popped in to The Bear for lunch. It's a characterful building, the food was very good and reasonably priced and the service was exceptional. They also offer a seniors menu, which seemed good value, although we didn't order from it. Recommend.

After being told to try the Turks head which had a 2 hour waiting time in an empty restaurant we went to the bear. No website or updated Facebook. So we were a bit unsure. Well what can I say! A warm welcome and told to sit anywhere. We chose the booths as they were in a direct breeze. My husband had sausage egg n chips. I opted for the pakora chicken and both dishes were excellent and good value. We went again a couple of days later and whilst my hubs had the same I opted for haddock and cheese fish cakes and asked for rice which they did for me. Honestly this was such a lovely meal! Service great too.

On Friday night I was with my Brother and Mother. We were hungry and looking for somewhere to eat. We came across The Bear. One of the locals recommended it to us and we were not disappointed at all. Great beers and Ciders yes, but most of all we were really impressed with the food. It was served to us very quickly and was really well cooked. The ham was awesome and the chips seemed to be triple cooked. I was really happy with my homemade mousaka. The prices and service were also very good indeed.

We called in here after Dogfest at Ragley Park as it's dog friendly pub. We were lucky with the weather so we could sit in the courtyard as seating inside looked quite limited (especially with a dog). We all loved the food; the lasagne is gorgeous. Quick and friendly service and reasonable prices. We were so impressed, and because another member of our group wanted the lasagne they had watched me eat, we returned a couple of days later. We couldn't find a seat outside and the dog friendly seating inside was full but the lovely staff allowed us to sit elsewhere; there was nobody else around but we were grateful and impressed with the realistic and flexible approach to accommodating us with the dog. Why turn away repeat customers when you can accommodate in an area which may not be designated for dogs but had no other customers in it? I really like this kind of common sense flexibility. Wouldn't hesitate to return if we were in the area again.

Normally would rate this place but not today, on entry was told it was quiet so can’t understand why the service has slipped, we sat in the garden normally such a tranquil place but not today some guy was there with an electric saw and banging with nails and hammer, maybe best to do this not at lunchtime when people are trying to eat, our food came out and my friend asked for another drink and was told she could fetch this from the bar they actually brought our first drinks out so why not this one, there were literally 8 people in the whole place and normally they bring everything you need, I went to pay and stood for ages calling to see if I could pay in the end I had to go on the hunt for staff, no apology and when I said I’d been waiting ages some woman shouted don’t be rude! Do you normally speak to customers like this? I’ve been a regular for years but won’t be back even though the food is nice, there are so many other places to eat in the village where your treated nicely.

Dog friendly, the meal was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced. Dropped a star as seating area for people with dogs has fixed tables which my husband (who is large!) found it difficult to sit at. Also, limited on fish dishes to prawns, which I like but would have preferred another choice of fish.

Wonderful Sunday Lunch. It’s becoming a regular habit to pop back to The Bear for Sunday Lunch. We had the (huge) beef lasagne which is absolutely sizzling hot and comes with chips and a really crispy fresh salad and coleslaw. Lasagne is faultless and I’m not sure how the salad is always so crisp and fresh. Little plum tomatoes, thinly sliced celery and bell peppers with crunchy coleslaw. If there is any fault in this place I would say it should be a little nearer to where I live so I could pop in more often. It’s a friendly little pub. We are inside today and from our seats could watch the large screen TV (but there are TV free areas!!) Staff are always lovely and a huge smile. It’s well worth a visit. 😊👍👍👍👍 Thank you.

Well deserved 5 star review (again) Sunday lunch in beer garden. On arrival we were sad to hear no lasagna today so we had Moussaka and trio of sausage and egg. Extra (huge) portion of chips. As usual the side salad was crisp and fresh. Portion huge. I’m not torn between moussaka or lasagna for my next visit as both are lovely. I’m so indecisive 😉 Lovely meal. No complaints or shortfalls. We will be back. Best family pub in Alcester (and I’m not working there or get any benefits!) (Sorry about empty plate photo but we scoffed it before remembering to take a picture.)

Another visit to this lovely pub on the Main Street in Alcester. Yet again wonderful food and terrific service. This time we ate in the rear yard which is well spaced and light and airy. It’s a lovely Sunday afternoon and the Pub is quiet. We tried the light ale as they have been unable to get hold of Guinness (not their fault as I’ve found this a real issue in other Pubs too!) We ordered the lasagne, salad and chips and a pint of light ale each. The salad is extremely crisp and fresh and you could snap the lettuce in your fingers. The baby tomatoes were plump and tasty with finely sliced cucumber, radish, red onion and celery and grated beetroot. The lasagne was served bubbling hot and sprinkled with chives. A side dish of coleslaw came with the food. It was fantastic. Unusually for me I could find nothing to moan about 😉 I will continue to use this small Pub for Sunday lunch. Once again I am surprised that it’s not packed out. The food is really lovely. These staff are attentive and look happy. (The chef and bar lady remembered us from the last visit about 6 weeks ago!) Great place to eat.

Really good lunch today (Sunday). Popped in without booking and the place was nearly empty. I don’t know why because the food is lively. We both had been lasagne which came with chips and a very fresh salad. Lasagne was hit and tasty and the coleslaw was lovely. Whilst we were there only about 5 or 6 customers came in. I’m amazed because I’ve done all the Alcester Pubs and this food is as good - if not better - than just about all the others. The lady chef came out to chat to the barmaid/waitress and we congratulated her on the food. I came here last month and today was just as good. I highly recommend this for food.

I came back to visit Alcester again with a few friends over the christmas period and what a lovely town. The vibe was brilliant everywhere we went until I came across this pub with my wife.I must point out that the food was brilliant, topnotch. A good price too. However, the management were a disgrace to the town. The owners are a pair of drunks who just sit at the bar making people feel uncomfortable. It’s such a shame that a lovely pub has been let down due to pair of cretins.

Avoid at all costs. The landlord is an abusive drink who drinks on the job to the detriment of the establishment. Discussing the matter with staff confirmed that this is an ongoing issue. As visitors to the area on a Monday evening, we found it difficult to find an establishment that served evening meals, and eventually someone suggested eating here. We were greeted by a friendly bar man who took our order and showed us the seating area. I chose the homemade butternut quash lasagne and it was truly the most delicious lasagne I have ever eaten, and me and my partner shared a bottle of chardonnay. So we decided to go for lunch with our parents and chose the bear, one thing I instantly noticed was that the menu is small which is not a problem however the problem is when you have a small menu and certain things are out of stock which again then limits your choice. We were advised they were busy the night before and were out of stock on some of the main items on the menu and also out of stock on deserts bar ice cream ( this appears to be a common thing with the bear from conversations with friends). The one lady that served us was very good but she appeared to be the only one front of house doing anything, this was evident when I was stood at the bar and another lady totally ignored me so I had to wait for the other lady to come back after she had been running about serving everyone. The food was Ok, however if you have a small menu you have got to have the stuff in stock regardless of a busy night before.

This is one of the few places where whatever I order from the menu, I know that it's going to be of excellent standard. The salad is beautiful and fresh and all of the meals are made to perfection. Furthermore the toilets are spotless, the garden area is beautiful (especially in the summer) and they even have a pool table for entertainment. The girl behind the bar always has a smile on her face and is always extremely welcoming and happy to help. All of the staff obviously work very hard because this pub is honestly my favourite pub and everybody I have taken here has been extremely impressed. Keep up the good work!

Popped in for a bite to eat for lunch. We liked the prices advertised outside the pub. Its a quirky pub divided into definitive areas. The bar area for drinking, a soft sofa area near the fire for relaxing with a coffee a dining area and a pool table area.We got the menu, not overly huge but the usual pub food from sandwiches to specials on the board.Settling on soup and sandwich,a bagette and a pot of tea. The order was taken from our table from the friendly waitress. Soon we saw a bowl of chips pass by, they were chunky and looked delicious but we restrained ourselves. Soon ours arrived, piping hot broccoli and stilton soup with a toasted sandwich and a bacon and egg bagette. Excellent bacon used no watery residue and really thick well cooked and a soft runny egg. The soup was so flavoursome with a good dose of stilton in it and the brie toasty dipped into it nicely. The pot of tea served out 7 cups. We watched other orders coming out, good plateful of food nicely presented. If passing through again I would go here again.

We've not been to Alcester for a couple of years (being seasonal visitors to Warwickshire) but after our last visit to The Bear Hotel we didn't hesitate about popping in for lunch. Yet again they delivered decent food/drink at reasonable prices and all served with a smile. Next time we're in the area we will return there for lunch. Great to see the standards have been maintained.

At the completion of a good walk through Alcester and nearby Oversrley Woods we were looking for a relaxing place for lunch. The Bear fitted the bill nicely. The place has an odd decor - not old, not modern and definitely not done by a designer. But it was warm, comfortable and the staff friendly.Monday lunch seems to be aimed at seniors and is priced really well, although we were taken aback to be seen as in that market! Decided on some soup and sandwiches. All fresh and tasty. No local ales so settled for a Cornish ale.Great value for money.

A lovely pub with a nice atmosphere. Centrally located in this lovely Warwickshire village of Alcester it offers a good range of food at affordable prices and a great range of drinks. The food portions are generous and of good quality (I had the ham eggs and chips which were delicious!).I would certainly visit again.

...being a quiet, vey local somewhere, to take my disabled father for lunch. The food is what it is. Pub food, cooked well, in substantial portions, adequately presented. The staff appear young and in short supply but they do their best, which is quite good, actually. There are so many pubs and restaurants in Alcester and the surrounding area which I could choose from. However, for this particular purpose, The Bear is, as I said, perfect. I learned during my third visit that there is a car park to the rear, providing perfect wheelchair access. Every effort is made to accommodate us during our visit, which can be quite demanding. However, they have accepted us back tomorrow in spite of my father devouring the entire vinegar supply, two weeks or so ago. Just hope they've been back to cash and carry since then!!!

We were waiting outside when it opened & walked out half an hour later without our order being taken. There was one (pleasant) very young member of staff to open up, take orders, serve & work the bar, this would have been impossible even with someone with greater experience & confidence but despite her repeated apologies & explanations that she could not cope, she never got around to taking our order. Whoever runs the place needs to consider their staffing policy......

overall a lovely hotel and brilliant food. however i couldn’t help but notice the lack of respect from staff members to other fellow staff. i think staff for a hotel this nice should be kind and attentive and not out right rude.

We stopped by while passing through and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming. The food was reasonably priced, making it a great value for the quality. We'll definitely consider returning in the future.

We booked here as it is we located for Stratford upon Avon and Chipping Campden. We found it difficult to park when we arrived sonit would be good to have some spaces for residents only. The room was lovely and clean and had a nice bathroom with good toiletries. However the room was very small, with a huge unit in the corner and every surface was full so it felt cluttered and you were limited on space for your own belongings. Perhaps replace that unit and the tiny bedside tables with small drawers to maximise space. The food in the restaurant was very good and the chef was very attentive to our needs. As reaidents itbwoumd have been nice to have a cosy sofa or something in the bar to relax after dinner. The place has lots of potential - it just needs some tweaks. We do recommend d dining there.
