The Bear in Elmbridge

Came for dinner with my friend and her mum. Not from the area so was having a look around. Everyone was really friendly when we came in. Our server Ellie was fantastic, we didn’t manage to grab the name of the other female server in shift tonight but she was also very friendly and lovely to talk to. Food was great and the pub is beautiful.

Kiera, Matt and the rest of the staff were fantastic with us, accomodating everything we needed, in advance and on the day. The food was excellent as always, especially the roasts. We've been here many times for celebrations and never regret it. Thank you

The food and staff were fantastic and so tentative and helpful! They are very dog friendly and gave our bulldog and sausage dogs treats at the end of the meal. Hannah was our waitress looking after us and was very friendly and encouraging

A lovely relaxed Sunday lunch, a very good roast beef, very good service and a pleasant atmosphere. The fruit crumble wasn't the best as it wasn't crunchy crumbly just dry. Altogether we very much enjoyed our meal.

Hannah was very friendly and attentive, made it a lovely evening and brilliant Bloody Marys!

One of the best places in Cobham, the rest are overpriced

Nice looking pub, the chips were tiny but really good but the ploughman's was very disappointing. On the menu as a share platter for two for £22, it consisted of two very thin slices of cheese, two very thin wedges of ham hock, a small amount of tasteless bread, a few pickled onions, 4 small radiccio leaves and some chutney. Definitely more of a snack for one. Certainly wouldn't return.

Rather a sad ploughman's for the money was provided. Otherwise a nice pub

Had a 20 person family reunion on a busy Sunday lunch time and the place was amazing. The excellent and attentive staff put us in a private room out the back and we had the best time. The multitude of food choices was truly delicious and we cannot have been the easiest group to deal with, constantly moving seats to mingle. Keirai was incredible though and handled everything we threw at her with a smile. We most definitely will be back soon, the roasts were enormous!

We visited The Bear on Sunday and decided on a whim to have a roast dinner. By far the best roast we’ve had in a very long time! Food and service were exceptional, and the staff are always lovely and welcoming. We also held our baby shower here back in March, and were so happy with how it turned out. Brilliant customer service and superb food.

Booked a table for a friends' get together for a Saturday lunch. The serving staff were exceptional - 5* attention and friendly professionalism. The menu is excellent, with the starters and sides being substantial. There is great attention given to the main course dishes which are also substantial but reasonably priced. A wonderfully ambient atmosphere. We were able to have a conversation without being in competition with additional noise such as loud music or noisy diners. Our table was inside but the beer gardens at the back looked gloriously relaxing. Parking is a bit limited so we parked in a public car park about a 7 minute walk away, which was a blessing in disguise as we needed to walk off all the glorious food and drink we had consumed! Well done everyone at The Bear. You are a model which all pubs should follow.

It was a lovely restaurant and Keira was very friendly and patient with our group. It would be great if you had another vegan choice on your menu as the burger was quite filling and one doesn’t always need such a filling dish.

We hired the private function room at The Bear for my mums 70th birthday. The buffet spread was excellent. Great variety, good quality and tasted great. The staff were so friendly and nice, really welcoming and made the evening perfect. Would recommend the room, the garden area made it even better as we could also use that space too.

Very brief visit but got a nice welcome and decor is perfect drink was also poured well. Only thing was there was a lot of wasps in the garden.

Opposite a regenerated river walk, this pub/restaurant is lovely. We went to a dog photoshoot event and decided to have lunch there. The food was great ( be aware that portions are large) the staff were helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. Definitely recommend. Dog friendly, child friendly.

Never eaten here before so we thought we’d try one Fri night. It was OK, nice atmosphere and welcome. But the food and menu choice is not as good as other pubs in area Service with Nele, however, was excellent

Unfortunately, we had a poor experience. It’s a nice pub but the service from the start although friendly was very slow and not very professional. We had several of the waiters/waitresses walk past our table empty handed when we had empty plates etc and things were forgotten several times. We’re not sure if they were understaffed but there were only 2 other tables eating and it was quiet. The food was poor overall. It was bland and lacked seasoning. We both had the orzo salad which was meant to come with feta cheese but came with mainly mozzarella even though the waitress said it was vegan feta. The orzo was also very overcooked and mushy, had no seasoning and the dish was missing ingredients. We would have been fine if we were told this previously but we weren’t. The courgette fritters were again bland and the garlic and paprika mayo just tasted like mayo. We ordered the Apple Galette and the chocolate brownie for dessert. The brownie was actually very nice but the Apple galette was awful. It is supposed to have flaky pastry but it was completely soggy and uncooked. It had obviously been put in the microwave to heat up which was just pure laziness and really disappointing. We mentioned this to the waitress and luckily she took it off the bill for us. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

Dog friendly, lovely atmosphere, immaculate interior and exterior. Lovely clean toilets. Car park. River walk opposite. Friendly, helpful staff. The food was great. Truly delicious.

We were visiting for the first time yesterday and found the pub very welcoming however my food was really awful. I had the mussels with bread and chips and was really looking forward it . When it arrived it had a weird smell which did turn my stomach . Most of the mussels shells were empty and the bread was so hard I thought I would break my teeth . As we were meeting people for the first time who had arranged the get together it was really difficult to make a scene about the food. The fries were fine but that was all I ate . The roasts werent great either and it was really difficult to cut into the potatoes . My husband's pasta was bland to say the least. Sadly will not be returning or recommending.

Beautiful pub. We were going to the ivy over the road but the car park was so small in the Ivy and snobby customers so we came over the road and the car park was much nicer and bigger in the Bear. The staff in the Bear was so wonderful and attentive. Really lovely decor and nice you can sit outside or inside. I am veggie and had a pomegranate salad that was very yummy just could have had some more pomegranate in. My husband had a fish finger ciabatta sandwich. The fish was very yummy but the ciabatta was very hard, it could do with being cooked less and some oil on it.

Not been in here for years and suddenly realised the same manager as the penny black…….well standards follow. Mouthwatering food, atmosphere you don’t want to leave and service that makes u smile for days

Lovley pub in cobham, nice rear beer garden and seating out the front opposite the river.

My friends and I take part in the pub quiz when we can. It’s great fun and a very convivial atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the quiz master - Andy does a great job!

Great and delicious food, and fabulous service. Our amazing waitress was smiley, attentive and delivered some really nice touches throughout the dinner. Would recommend and will definately return.

I love this pub! I had a Steak Bavette with some homemade crispy fries, simple and delicious! I was with my dog, and he was also happy with his bowl of water and some treats :-) The atmosphere is quiet and elegant.

So disappointed to find out when we got home that you actually charged £6 extra to swap chips for potatoes!!! We spent nearly £200 on food and drink. Chose this restaurant as it was half way for us all to meet. The food was tasty, but this has put such a downer on our experience at the Bear!!!

like the atmosphere and lovely garden. Food is average, I booked a table and missed 2 chairs so couldn’t seat and service was very slow…had to wait 30mns and go to bar to get drinks and 40 mns to get dessert. too long….

This is a very underused pub possibly because of its location but they have lovely staff, a lovely pub and I dare say lovely food from what we saw although we didn't eat any

Our first time there! We all had Sunday roast (2 beef, 1 trio of meats) & absolutely loved it! My husband needed extra gravy as he has a slight problem swallowing so he asked & there was no issue with that, whereas I some places, they make you feel like you shouldn't have asked! Hannah our server was attentive & friendly from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. What a great place to have a meal!

Really nice place and service by Jelly was amazing warm and friendly! As a veggie the roast was not out of this world but I always know these are sometimes not the best. One person on our table had the fish and chips and said it was incredible! They don't play around with their portion sizes!

Had our wedding drinks in The Bear last Friday afternoon for a couple of hours prior to a meal across the road in The Ivy. ALL the staff were wonderful from start to finish. The Bear Pub in Cobham is an absolute treasure! The atmosphere is fantastic, with a cozy and inviting vibe that makes you feel right at home. Matthew and his team could not do enough to make my special event full of joy. I wanted to be outside as it was good weather, Matt Still kept an emergency area free inside incase of rain. The staff are so kind and moved mountains to make sure i celebrated with Joy displaying the Prosecco beautifully. The garden is so pretty , pretty lighting , heaters and comfy chairs. HUGE THANK YOU for an evening i will never forget.

the pub has plenty of history, the staff were friendly and my beef cheek pie was superb. Some of the potatoes were burnt at the edges, but aside from that a lovely lunch. We will return.

Wow they’ve really turned this place around. While the service and decor has always been great here the food was really letting everything else down. Having heard they were under new management we visited again and were amazed at the difference in the food. This time the food both looked and tasted delicious. It’s a great place for fancy pub food, super convenient location and it’s dog friendly! This is a beautiful pub with a lovely beer garden and the staff are wonderful. It’s upmarket but family friendly - the menu is finally doing them all justice. They have games and dog treats and high chairs and the vibe is cosy and clean. Thank you for a great visit.

Lovely, welcoming pub with a surprisingly large beer garden. We had a delicious lunch here with our children. The portions are generous and the food was great. Had been here previously and the service and vibe has always been excellent but the food was really terrible before new management took over. The staff are really brilliant here, we were served by a girl called Keira who was so good and really on it. Thankfully they’ve fixed the food issue and this place is now a bit of a gem. And it’s dog friendly! Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through or visiting Painshill Park.

The food, atmosphere and staff were all excellent. Compared to to London the prices were reasonable and good value for money. My first visit and I loved it. The bar area was cosy and busy but not noisy neither was the restaurant. So looking forward to going there again.

Came due to being close to the services before holidays. Food was incredible, service was second to none. Would recommend to anyone.

Nice friendly pub and comfortable seating area. Nothing ‘healthy’ on the menu. Went for fish and chips. A huge plate arrived and chips were nice, but fish was all batter and mushy peas tasted burnt. Won’t eat there again.

We went back to The Bear Pub in Cobham for lunch, and let me tell you, it was awesome! Seriously, the fish was out of this world – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Best pub fish I've ever had, hands down. They've added a bunch of new sauces, and it's a game-changer! I'm talking tangy tartar, griddled half lemon, and even spicy curry sauce. Each one brought a whole new vibe to the dish – we couldn't get enough. The chips – perfectly crispy and seasoned just right. Plus, the portion was spot-on – filled me up without making me feel like I needed a nap afterward. The vibe at The Bear Pub is always chill, and the staff are super friendly. They really know how to make you feel at home. An extra special thank you for Matt, Izzy and Hannah, they looked after us superbly! So, if you're in Cobham and craving some top-notch fish and chips, hit up The Bear Pub. You won't regret it!

The food was delicious, properly hot and so gorgeous; the beef rib simply melted off the bone - stunning! We went to the Bear for an early Mother’s Day lunch with our two dogs. The service was brilliant (from the staff who showed us to our table to the waitress who looked after us during the meal) - our waitress went the extra mile accommodating my mum’s food allergies. The food was really tasty and the atmosphere was great. It was our first time visiting and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

Outstanding menu and the food was simply scrumptious. We enjoyed excellent service and the padrón peppers recalled our life in Spain, the whole experience was delightful and we finished with a couple of excellent coffees. The dining room has a lovely colour scheme and is beautifully designed. Thank you so much.

WE had an amazing time at the Bear where we held a Baby shower event. It was such an intimate affair. The food was good and well represented. The service was amazing. Private party for 25 people. The whole experience was quite outstanding from start to finish. The food was great, the private room just right and the service was faultless. Nothing was too much for them. All the guests commented on what a great venue we had found- so thank you for making it a really memorable occasion.

We hosted a baby shower in the private room at The Bear in Cobham. The room was the perfect size for our party of 15. The staff were first class - went above and beyond and made sure we had everything we needed. No request was too big. It's out first time exploring Cobham. We stopped in The Bear, Cobham by chance. Loads of parking. On entry there is a jar of dog treats, I'm sold! Next I spotted a dog under a table, I'm in! This is my kinda place. A blazing fire on a cold Sunday evening. A table of card and board games. Friendly bar staff guiding us to the plentiful menu and super cosy seating. Holy God, the Chicken Supreme! I'd happily reach for it as my last meal. Fresh wholesome chicken crispy skin, lightly seasoned, veg, delicious gravy, roasties, roasted parsnip and a huge Yorkshire pudding. It was like a hug on a plate. It was a bonus to share some banter with the waiter & lovely chats with random strangers and their doggo's. We came in hungry. We left with full bellies and warm smiles. Highly recommend a visit, order some great grub, chat with a stranger and embrace the here and now for a bit. Thanks to all for tonights wonderful experience 🥰

The Fish and Chips were good, the sauces were not. The beef pie and fish pie weren't pies! They were baked stews with no pastry. Don't call them pies. And the price for those stews is pretty ridiculous. THEY DON'T HAVE PIES, ONLY SMALL STEWS IN SMALL CAST IRON PANS. The fish in the fish STEW tasted old and way overcooked. The mac'n cheese was unseasoned, glue-like mush. Just thick bechamel with absolutely no salt, no cheesey flavor, only a thin layer of some tasteless gratinated pizza cheese or something on top. The food took way too long for a restaurant where hardly anybody was eating at that time. On a Saturday around lunchtime you'd expect the chefs to work much faster.

Had a Sunday roast for four, unfortunately one of the roast beef had to be changed as it was very tough!! The service was good and our server was very helpful. Not bad value but nothing special. I think there are better options in the area for a Sunday roast

We had a good meal celebrating a birthday. All meals were well received and enjoyed. Service was excellent, timely, polite and efficient at all stages, from greeting to payment. We were served by Hannah and Nele, both were very good at their job.

Lovely old pub, which we visited on a cold January evening. We went for Toad in the Hole and Haddock and chips. Both were great and not a long wait. Service was impeccable. We enjoyed the Young's Original ale, just wish the Special had been on offer but understand that it's all about what sells.

Absolutely amazing service not only on the day but leading up to. They managed to book my daughter and I in last minute I think a week or two leading up to Christmas. On arrival we were greeted with warm lovely smiles, happy Christmas etc and they interacted with my daughter which I thought was really special. We arrived at our table and they had crackers for us, a little bag with stickers and colouring for my daughter and a card!! Drinks order was taken almost immediately and then our starters came out, then mains and desserts. Very quick, very friendly and my daughter and I had the best Christmas meal. Thank you 💚

Popped in with friends this evening and enjoyed a few glasses of delicious mulled wine. What a great pub! The fire was roaring, the staff were all really friendly and the atmosphere was great! We didn't eat on this occassion but the menu looked fabulous and I will certainly be back soon to give it a try.

Can't thank Matt and the team enough! Held a birthday suprise here and from start to finish the staff went above and beyond to help us. Perfect room for a private venue & will definitely be using again. Thanks again! :)
