The Beano Cafe in Canterbury

Two slices of white bread, a tablespoon of prawns, some salad. A take away sandwich. £5.40. Need I say more. Needless to say I won’t be going back.

Used a lot of times and tried everywhere else and this cafe came out on top with friendly staff and good food with great prices,but a little disappointed when at 7.15amclosed and in the dark but waited to no avail

The place was a down to earth diner. The owner/operator was pleasant to interact with. The food was delicious and filling. There is ample indoor seating but you can also get food to go. We had breakfast sandwiches and coffee. This seemed like a place the locals went to which says something in my book! This outshone other more popular places on the area.

Our family love this cafe. The staff are super friendly and always make us feel welcome. The food is great, such a comfort food! I have never had an issue here over the last 3 years we've been going. They are great with my disabled child!! She loves going here!

Nas duas vezes que estive o estabelecimento foi muito hospitaleiro, inclusive na segunda o filho do proprietário contou ótimas recomendações sobre sua região,a Capadócia/Turquia, e se mostrou muito interessado em saber mais do Brasil, de onde sou. Gostei muito. I went to eat a typical English breakfast. I really enjoyed it, both the food and coffee and the friendly service. The two times I was there, the establishment was very hospitable, including the second time the owner's son gave great recommendations about his region, Cappadocia/Turkey, and was very interested in learning more about Brazil, where I am from. I really liked.

I’ve lived in canterbury since this place has been open. It’s Always been Very good. Any daytime food is excellent. Polite people and food cooked well. Ignore bad reviews for this place. It’s BS and they have a hidden agenda for sure . The Beano is Fab 👍👍

Called into the Beano cafe around lunch time on a cold February and had a good warming lunch in a very clean establishment. Really well cooked basic food that hit the spot. No problems calling in next time in Canterbury especially for the money.

Fabulous food at reasonable prices. We will definitely visit again. I had the lamb chops with peas and chips. My friends had the mixed grill. We wash the lot down with tea and it cost under £30. We left full and satisfied. What more cN you ask for.

Visited with a group of 8 and were all very happy with our food. Ordered a mixture of sandwiches, baguettes, full English breakfasts, eggs/jam on toast and all loved it!! Good price and very fast service. Good sized portions, thick bread and big drinks- would recommend the milkshakes! Staff were very friendly, would definitely recommend!!

Following a lengthy walk along part of the Crab & Winkle line upto the University campus we were in need of refreshments, Only just spotted this cafe but glad we did. Typical cafe menu but it was clean, the food was good, the service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Will make a point of using it again next time we are in Canterbury

Been meaning to go for a while. Just 5mins from Canterbury Centre this is a fantastic traditional cafe, great breakfast selection, cooked fresh and excellent value for money. Would 100% recommend a visit

Awful service. Avoid. Ordered food for child. When it finally arrived it was not what we asked for, but after politely asking for refund they refused. Child went without, as food was completely un-edible. They said that they would cook it again, but we would have to pay again. Disgraceful.

Slightly off the track With plenty more modern looking places. All very 'fancy sjmancy'. Not this. Pure. Honest. Simple. Great traditional food. Great price. I always look for these places. I do not need nor want these modern trendy breakfast spots where the food is served on designer plates or where they have 'free leaf tea'. This place, THIS PLACE is good old fashion. That is what I like. And I am glad I found it. (Oh... and the coffee too was awesome.) Come check it out!

Don’t think you’ll find another full English for £3.50 in town. Not bad quality, served piping hot and quickly. Black pud and bacon were pretty good to be fair. It’s situated 5 mins from the station and just along from Wetherspoons. Friendly staff and spotlessly clean. It’s not just breakfasts. The huge menu on the wall by the till has many variations, burgers, chips and traditional favourites too. Ideal for a weekend early visit on a cold or wet day.

Dropped in looking for a full English and I got exactly that. Spotlessly clean inside and the service was good, very efficient and wonderfully polite. No lemurs on the table just a big board by the till. Food wise, nothing to write home about if you know what I mean, pretty cheap ingredients served not swimming in grease which was good. This is a good place that serves a breakfast that will definitely fill a hole and all at a cheap price. A cafe that reminds me of when I was young, some 25+ yrs ago now, hanging from the night before with only a fiver left and needed feeding. Would I recommend or go back again......... oddly enough, I can’t help but say yes but please don’t shoot the messenger if your expecting high quality, you need to look elsewhere and pay at least double.

There isd a comprehensive menu of good, wholesome "cheap eats" from pies and chips to my favourite of liver and bacon (but not every day!) It is a down to earth cafe whic attracts students and workmen alike. The cafe is kept clean and tidy nand tables are usually quickly cleared as there is a constant turnover of customers

Nice and clean ,friendly staff ,all day breakfast ,lunch and diner reasonable prices ,WiFi,also with the new coffee machine we can add decent coffees :)

We eat here regularly if we are looking for a good value, filling meal. Perfect for a full English breakfast or an egg and chips.

Dan desesperado estaba en dandy pero el desayuno no era Beano. No es un mal lugar. El personal es amable y acogedor y cómico. El desayuno es como un café de transporte. Salchichas baratas y baratas con tocino sobre pan blanco cocido y barato. La gente puede cocinar. La calidad siempre gana sobre la cantidad. Pruebe una buena salchicha con tocino, champiñones frescos y tomate con pan integral sin semillas. Deje su destructor de barriga encendido y vea cuál vende. The food is a-okay. Very cheap. But not amazing. Would definitely recommend for a cheap full English breakfast. Pleasant staff too.

Good variety of food on the menu from sandwiches to roast dinner , cooked breakfast and no time limit on the breakfast like some places . Fast , friendly service and very good value for money

Es una cafetería para pedir comida y bebida, sentarse a comer y volver a ir. Sin deco, sin atmo cálido. Algo así como una pequeña cantina. Sin embargo, la comida era sabrosa y buena.

He estado aquí muchas veces y no creo que haya tenido una mejor fritada. Es un café típico de un trabajador y creo que los precios son muy razonables y obtienes mucho. Este es un café de catering, puro y simple. Las papas fritas son baratas, las salchichas son aún más baratas y la salsa de tomate no es Heinz. Pero no tiene mucha competencia en Canterbury aparte de Cafe Solo, que está más allá del otro lado de la ciudad y es más cara por la misma comida de calidad barata.

Tal vez no aproveché al máximo mi experiencia, pero el personal me preguntó si estaba lista para pedir 3 veces (con personal diferente) en el espacio de 5 minutos, lo que es muy extraño, hubieras pensado que mantenían secciones entre ellos. La comida no era nada especial, pero era buena. Disfruté de mi visita. El lugar es muy acogedor, sin embargo, íntimo, lo recomiendo, pruébalo, quizás no sea para mí.

Esta es una típica cafetería inglesa de "cuchara grasienta" sin pretensiones de grandeza. Si quieres un plato lleno de desayuno inglés bien cocinado, este lugar hará las delicias.

Nice breakfast, just one thing didn't like the sausage. It tasted like a cheap one, but apart from that it was a good breakfast. Good service and they kept the place nice and clean, clearing away tables once the customer had left.

Had read the write up on beano café in the trip advisor,and decided to give it a go.We had 4 beano breakfast,the food was hot and wholesome

Good food and a nice welcome. Clean looking. Seemed busy which is always a good sign. Did not have to wait long for food.

where to start . ordered food to be told cash only . no problem so off I go to cash machine while wife waited . the food was on the table before I got back so I thought brill , how wrong I was . The so called mega breakfast , cold chips and toast I don't know how the eggs were cooked but were rank the bacon was dry as boot leather and the sausages seemed to have been cooked for hours apart from the middle which didn't seem to be correctly cooked at all . Now the staff . one sitting on the windowsill directly on his phone behind me another quietly sitting by main window chilling whilst quiet . the main issue was the fact both my wife and myself could see the so called chef sitting on a step in the kitchen with mobile in one hand and a finger on the other hand wedged nicely up his left nostril . At this point we left food and drinks where they were and walked out .

Sitting with sun streaming through the window eating eggs, bacon and bubble and squeak. My other half had the chef special with everything you could want including black pudding. Beautifully cooked and served with a smile. Hygiene rating five. Recommended!

This is a regular spot for my work colleagues and I and it offers a nice selection of tasty vegan and veggie meals (I am not either but enjoy these meals too) the service is friendly and polite my only slight minus for beano's is that as a gluten intolerant person....whenever I fancy cake I am often left wanting because it is not as regularly available as other cake options, sometimes it has been offered to pop back later but that's not always possible (three or four times now, it is ok but disappointing none the less )

If you fancy a naughty fry up or a proper cup of tea this is easily one of the best cafes in Canterbury, it's worth the ever so slightly longer walk out of the town centre as the food is good and dirt cheap too! Not to mention good service to top it off.

This is the first time we have been to this Beano. We will be going here again when we are in Canterbury. This is the best cafe in Canterbury. The food is great quality, well cooked and well priced. My wife and I have not eaten here for over 5 years, when we lived in Canterbury we were fairly regular customers.We visited Canterbury last week an decided pop in for breakfast, it was great as all ways used to be and the owners remembered us and made a great fuss and even remembered what we used to have and our names. Great Service is priceless.

I have walked past this cafe many times. We were booked into a restaurant on a Saturday, when we arrived it was a 45 minute wait for food. Due to our travel arrangements we didn't have time so hunted around for some where to go.The Beano Cafe was the answer. They were only doing fish and chips perfect. The food hygiene rating is 5 so we ordered for 6 of us.The staff are lovely. The tables were spotlessly clean and the Fish & Chips great and arrived in minutes.. You can have take away.

In this small, simple, off-the-beaten-track cafe we had a delicious Vegetarian "lunch" at 2:45 pm. The menu was quite varied and Vegan as well as Vegetarian dishes are available. Large range of drinks and the food was tasty and wholesome. I was able to swap the salad which accompanied my meal with a different sort without any problem. Managed and served by a young team. Very nice.

This cafe is want you would expect it to be good greasy food, nothing special about the place but the breakfast was good and was reasonably priced.Getting to the cafe there is a paying car park across the road or it is easy to by bus.

I have been here many, many times! The food is freshly cooked and cheerfully served and the place is exceptionally clean. Chicken roast is always great, if served nuclear hot! Whoa takes a while to cool down! Nb: Beanos can be full of students midday at weekends. (Photo chicken roast attached)

I've lost count of the times I've been so happy to see the friendly faces of the guys at beanos! It's a classic local breakfast cafe! Can order from the menu or "custom build" a breakfast if you ask nicely! Not fancy food but damn it's good! And decent value too! Even has a few car parks close by!Big love for beanos!

Visited this cafe on Saturday nursing a hangover I ordered the mega breakfast and they certainly weren't lying it was huge and everything was cooked well and the staff were friendly and seemed very clean will certainly return

My friend and I had breakfast here a few days ago while hungover, we will be returning again!! I have never seen such a huge breakfast, at a very reasonable price too! The only downfall is it does not accept card payment but there is a cash machine not far.

If you want a good old fashioned fry up and a strong cup of tea served through out the day, this is the place. Its not haut cuisine its not healthy, It is deep fried and delicious served in generous quantities.

Top place to come have a proper fry-up at a very reasonable price. I love the no-frills plastic chair atmosphere and have never been dissapointed by the food or staff. Popular with the locals this is a great place to eat!

Went here for the first time today as we were looking for somewhere to get an all day breakfast and it was great, perfect breakfast, fast service and friendly atmosphere, also very cheap. 5 stars.

we wait all year to go here after emigrating 7 years ago we have to wait a year to go back each time but its so worth the wait. staff are always friendly and helpful and food NEVER disappoints. you can always tell a good cafe by the amount of builders that go and this is always busy. keep up the great work see you in a few months

Out for a family day trip to Canterbury and begun with an all day breakfast from the Beano Cafe. Came highly recommended and did not disappoint! High quality and good value.

The Beano Cafe is my favourite place in Canterbury. I've been a so many timeS a five never been disappointed! Always feel welcome when I walk in and the staff are really friendly and chatty. So the great food at low prices is an added bonus to be honest! If you find yourself with a bad hangover or if you're just really hungry then Beano is the place to go

This café has 14 tables alas the chairs are fixed and cannot be moved. it is a cosy old style café and located by Westgate, so slightly out of the city centre and tourist area.My all day breakfast was quickly served and well-cooked, although the tomatoes were tinned and the sausages poor quality. The coffee however comes highly recommended. The prices were competitive too and the menu (located by the serving area and in the front window) varied.

You can see by the distance of the chair backs from the table, that this place likes to fill people up. So its the typical greasy spoon but thats what you want isn't it? Eggs bacon, chips, the full monty. We loved it!

If you're looking for a no frills full English in Canterbury at a reasonable price, then definitely come here. Its size is just about right so there is usually a table available when you visit at peak time, i.e. in the mornings

Don't let that put you off. It's clean it's tasty and good value. Regularly pop in to get my Liver and Bacon fix. Great with kids too they always got a free lolly.

Transport cafe at its best. Mugs of tea and all the carbs you could wish for. Workmen and students abound . I am a regular and it's a haven for comfort food. Don't forget to leave a rip at the till as it's always brilliant value and the staff work hard.

We arrived in Canterbury on a cold sunday morning about an hour before the shops were due to open - public transport issue - and whilst looking for somewhere to grab a hot drink spotted a sign for the Beano. Just by looking in the window we knew we were on to a winner as at 9.15 the place was already very busy. We had a chef special breakfast each and large orange juice and it was less than £13. Food was well cooked, extremely tasty and there was plenty of it - would highly recommend and will definitely going back soon

we arrived at canterbury from a travelodge nearby. we parked almost straight away opposite awetherspoons eatery. it was very busy and badly lit, so we changed our minds and intended to go elsewhere. when we returned to the car we noticed the Beano cafe almost next doorwe ordered a full english. the food was superb along with a nice strong mug of tea and thick slices of bread and butterthe sausage and the bacon were better than the food at the travelodges and the premier inns.the prices were also very cheap. cheaper than wetherspoons (and they are cheap)the staff are very helpful and we read the newspapers provided as we waiting for our meal.the cafe was almost full, with some scaffolders taking up most of the room, whom we saw later on the main street putting up their scaffolds. if you want to find a good caff follow a group of builders or workmen !!we are from west yorkshire so probably will not be visiting the canterbury area againsuch a shame. wish we had the beano cafe on our doorstep, then we would visit regularlyjust one negative comment, we think that isn't too bad. you can't please everybody

A big fry up breakfast which was tasty without being too greasy. Served by friendly staff. Clean surroundings. Much enjoyed and appreciated.

Our daughter is a student at Kent University and we flew in from Belfast to celebrate her birthday. We decided to treat ourselves to a brunch after a few too many glasses of red wine the previous night. We needed a big fry up and this is exactly what Beanos delivered. It’s not plush, buts it’s bright and clean and the food was perfect, just exactly what we needed. Huge portions, all freshly prepared and such good value. Really loved it. My only complaint is the toilets; they were not the best and really need some attention

My husband and I regularly have the all day breakfast on a Sunday here, not one bit greasy, top bacon and sausages and perfect bubble and squeak. We have eaten in lots of restaurants and cafés, we love food and fine dining, but you really can't beat Beano's in canterbury for their breakfast.

The Beano is a bit of a Canterbury insitution. The perfect place to go if you re suffering a hangover from the night before! Stop by, drop in and indulge. Great recovery venue!

My 9 year old and I like to tell my wife we are going into town for a 'light salad' and come here for a proper fry up. Good value, friendly staff. I've done a lot of searching in Canterbury for the best greasy spoon cafe, but nothing beats the first one I found - Beano! Such good value - I almost couldn't finish their breakfast, which is really saying something, and it cost under a fiver. You won't find that anywhere else!Staff are really friendly too!

Good wholesome food just like Mother used to do. We had been to gym and decided to stop on way home for lunch as we were starving. We really enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere, generous portions and SO reasonably priced.

It all looks good on the slate or the breakfast menu. It smells ok at the right time of day. The prices are affordable and you might even get chatted up by a group of sexist builders. Hey lads she's got a nice pair of fried eggs there look! I love going here now and again, but if you're not careful it can become a habit. Before you know it you're asking ketchup on your Boef en Croute back home, smoking skinney roll-ups and slurping your tea through your teeth. All things in moderation. Remember it's a Greasy Spoon Caf.

Can't speak highly enough of this cafe. The staff are some of the friendliest ive ever come across - nothing is too much trouble for them. I often eat poached eggs on toast, and like them runny. A lot of cafes can't manage to get them right, often overcooking them, but Beano cafe get them spot on every time.

Helpful and friendly staff, nice and informal. Cheap food, healthy & veggie options, newspaper and magazine rack, nice local photographs. Serves the 'real community' of Canterbury who want an 'good old fashioned cafe' with friendly personal service, which is lacking in many large cafes and restaurants these days.
