Terrible coffee and cake unfortunately. The flat whites were obviously americano coffees topped with hot milk. The lotus biscoff brownies were completely dry. Waste of money, no excuse serving bad coffee and charging a premium. Inexperienced staff trying their best

It’s a young, inexperienced team on the busiest day of the week so there was confusion and missed orders which spoils the vibe in a small place like this but you can’t get angry with the staff - they’re lovely and doing their best. Management is probably not present. There is however, a nice outside space in the sun to watch children play in the town beach and they also do take outs. It’s a prime location at the heart of the historic town so management would be advised to make the effort.

Very poor, first time I’ve had a flat white with filter coffee topped with milk froth not once but twice after I complained and then aggressively questioned as to ‘how I like mine’ then after 40 minutes had passed our very bland panini arrived. No where near worth the £25, it’s a massive no from me, I’ll go elsewhere next time, probably next door !!

Nice setting in the market place and perfect for sitting outside on a sunny day. Good selection of cakes The service was a little chaotic with inexperienced staff who didn’t seem to know what they were doing. We ordered 1 x carrot cake and two scones with jam and clotted cream which came with one teeny pot of jam to share and clotted cream that would serve 1 and half scones. We had to ask for butter and knives. The teapot came with only enough milk for 2 cups yet we ordered tea for 3 and no spare hot water. It was ok

Went for some lunch with friends and was underwhelmed by the menu. Specials have No visible prices nor do the cakes, probably because they charge extortionate prices on these items or just make it up as they go along. Food took an awfully long time after having to ask if the order was even put through. Extra items on receipt. Staff or what I assume was the owner brings the place down with an awful attitude and rudeness. Terrible atmosphere. The place was filthy unwelcoming and overpriced! Will not be returning!

Awful experience, not quite sure where to start. When we arrived, for some unknown reason, our request to sit at the empty window table caused one staff member to have an almighty strop and slam a chair down, making us feel very unwelcome. Despite this unpleasantness, we regrettably took the table and ordered a tea, coffee and vegan cake to share. I would be really surprised if the ‘banana’ and chocolate cake had ever seen a banana in its life. I spent the next 2 hours feeling extremely ill, either because of the chemical tasting cake or the dire state of the bathroom which was absolutely disgusting. That said, the tea and coffee was nice enough and was reasonably priced! Will not be returning!

Good location - overlooking Newark market square. Indoor and outdoor seating. Posh finger sandwich in brioche with very minty mushy peas - very nice.Coffee okay.Negatives:Chef who served us food, not appropriately dressed. Our main gripe was cost of cakes - 1 slice of choc orange cake £4.20. Far too expensive. Scone was "sourced locally from bakers" but not homemade, tasted OK but small, and overpriced at £3.50.We like our cakes but this is too expensive so we won't be returning !

Have used this cafe many times on our visits to Newark. I think it now has new owners. The service is poor, popped in on a Saturday lunch time, my partner had a sandwich which was quite nice, but no cutlery or condiments were given to him. I asked for a scone with butter & jam but requested that it wasn’t warmed up in the microwave, when I cut it open it felt stale, I ate a little & it was awful. I called (presume the owner) & said that the scone was stale, she assured me the scones were fresh that day, she rather abruptly asked if I still wanted it? I said No. she didn’t apologise or offer me anything else on the menu, just took the scone away! So I just drank my coffee! My partner went to pay & said we wouldn’t be paying for the scone, she then said that there was nothing wrong with it because she had just eaten the other half!! Who really eats the customers stale food! The waitresses looked nice dressed in black with blue aprons but (I presume the owners) looked very scruffy, the guy preparing the food had no mask, jeans & T-shirt with No apron & the women had a scruffy looking dress & trainers with No apron.Overall a poor experience & sadly will not return, thankfully there are some other nice cafes in Newark!

I had an iced coffee with milk and my daughter had the same without. Both were weak and flavourless. Mine just tasted of cold-ish milk.We were pretty disappointed. My wife had an americano, and it was OK. I know it was an iced coffee rather than a cold brew, but for a coffee house, it should have been a lot better.

We arrived early lunchtime on a Saturday so it was busy. But there is no excuse for the lack of Covid hygiene protocol carried out.1) I wasn't asked if I registered my visit using the Covid 19 app. I actually hadn't seen it on my way in so I did it on the way out. My husband hasn't got the App so his details should of been taken manually.2) I saw tables being cleared of plates and noticed twice the tables and chairs not being wiped down after they had been used.3) I caught sight of member of staff that worked in the kitchen and he wasn't wearing a mask. ( I like to think the person preparing my food was wearing one. Maybe it's just me)The staff were pleasant but more training I think wouldn't go amiss.Had to get my own menu. The young girl must of walked past me about five times. Had to call her back to ask for salt and salad dressing. Surely they should ask is there anything else I get for you.And my pet hate is being served tea in a chip pot.I know this sounds fussy as it's not a Five star restaurant.Having said all this the food itself was good. But I don't think I will be back, as basis hygiene rules were not being carried out.

We have been a few times over the years and always enjoyed the coffee and food. Yesterday being nice weather we thought we would have a coffee sitting outside. The waitress was not wearing a mask, and she was also leaning over the table when serving and when she brought the card machine, my husband put his mask on, and she was standing at his shoulder. I went to the toilets inside, wearing my mask and not one member of staff had a mask on. I thought it was compulsory for staff in shops and eateries to wear mask, I might be wrong but this is the first place we have been where they have not. We will not be back.

Supermarket Cafe level really. Earlier reviews had given the impression this is an eggs Royale type of place with a good chef etc. It really isn’t. Very average jacket potato type menu, plain salads, plain toasties. The name just doesn’t fit this place that’s for sure. Friendly and helpful staff though and good location in the square.

Good service. Food mediocre. Staff friendly and efficient. Hard working on busy market days. The menu is reduced. We both had a panini which arrived quickly. Very ordinary, mass produced panini. Filling was OK. Cheese inside was still cold - not melted. The bread was chewy, not crispy and panini should be all about the grilling and the crunch. Served with a salad on the side that also wasn’t good. Also supermarket quality with what tasted like bottled dressing. Coffee - also average. Not particularly good at all. It’s not cheap for what you get.

Great location on the edge of Newark market square. Outside there is a small blackboard on each table that says they will take your order at the table. Ignore this as the staff do! Me and my family are often in The Bean and Vine, I loved it so much, I have recently brought two of my friends. They often have lovely cheerful staff that know the menu and it has a lovely, warm feel to the place. Unfortunately, our visit today was slightly disappointing because, my Mum asked the young girl with brown hair in a pony tail and glasses, what soft drinks they had and she shrugged her shoulders. Just looked like she didn’t want to be there, the whole time we were there. Just came across as ill-mannered, the lady with the short, highlighted hair came with the food like a breath of fresh air and really put her to shame!☹️Won’t stop us coming in future, but hopefully this review is useful feedback!

Nice little building on the edge of the town square with small tables outside. Tea and coffee was brought promptly and we ordered two salads. Staff were polite and friendly but no follow up check at the table after the salads were finally brought ....after quite some time. Please correct me if I’m wrong but when I was a lad salad contained perhaps some cucumber, onions, tomatoes, lettuce of some description maybe some peppers and the main ingredient say chicken etc. Politely chopped lettuce a few chunks of tomato and the main bit with some sauce on did not strike me as very imaginative. The ‘Garlic’ flatbread was like warm cardboard and I guess they must have run out of garlic as there wasn’t even a hint . No salt and pepper on the table and none offered .Food was fresh but lacking any basic imagination.I must be getting old !

Have been a few times. Coffee nice, food tasty and staff are professionally polite. However, on the first 2 visits the pie was small and a bit greasy and the panini was very average. On the last visit I chose from the tapas and the food was lovely including a very tasty salad. The only criticism is that the staff need to remember that their conversations can be heard in the shop. All their debates about whether another member of staff should be sacked, the incorrect orders (most concerning where someone was unknowingly given pork in their food) and the following begrudging comments from the server after a waiter forgot to amend an order which was sent back. I will go back again as it is a charming place for lunch but I left feeling that if your staff don’t have a love for the intimate style of your business then perhaps work somewhere else or at least keep it to yourself?

The reason why I'm only giving 4* is because we had our food way before we even had our drinks without an apology. Went there for lunch, Sunday afternoon, not too busy. We were there with my granddaughter who is 1 1/2. Got a table at the door and ordered our food. 1 prawn sandwich, 1 poached eggs with toast and 1 pancakes. It took an hour to come out. My eggs were in a bowl which had water in it and they were hard. Pancakes was 4 small ones and two rashers of bacon (£4.50 I think) prawn sandwich looked ok. I certainly would not go back, no apology or even told there was a wait for food. With a toddler this is not what you need. My 15 year old son said it was a ploy to make us buy more drinks. Simple food made hard.....

We had a very nice cup of tea/coffee and slice of cake here yesterday afternoon. We sat outside and it was nice watching the world go by through the Market Square. The slice of Lemon Cake was a good as it looked and was very moist which was nice, as a lot of cakes look good but don't live up to expectations - top marks! The staff were pleasant and welcoming and they brought our order out to us which was appreciated.I know a previous reviewer thought it was a bit expensive and not good value but, as a Londoner, I thought that £7.50 (or thereabouts) was pretty good for what we had.Well done and would recommend.

I felt like I had to write this after seeing a previous review. WellI tried the bean and vine and had the classic tuna sandwich, to which I found it to be as it was. A classic tuna sandwich, it was lovely fresh bread a good filling of tuna, nice little salad AND crisps. I feel that what you got was well worth the price.

The best tasting coffee in Newark!! Nothing is too much trouble. Staff are attentive and very welcoming. Ambience excellent and decor very tasteful. You have to visit The Bean & Vine and experience this little gem for yourself.

Went there yesterday for a late lunch as they advertised the excellent '200 degree coffee' on the door. The coffee was great of course but the 'classic tuna sandwich' at £5.95 was made of two small slices of white bread filled with rather bland tuna mayo and a small side salad... so overpriced! Was not impressed by the waitress' rushed style either...

We visited twice during our day in Newark as the staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was great. Lunch was lovely, it was well presented, tasty and good value for money. We enjoyed it so much we called back for tea and cake later on in the afternoon. We were not disappointed, the chocolate brownies was superb !!

Brilliant service, very effiicient and friendly staff. Had a lovely leisurely hot chocolate and mocha with a superb chocolate crunch cake. The mocha was not too sweet or too bitter and smooth to drink, perfect temperature too. The hot chocolate was chocolately and thick a proper one not a powder in sight......mmm well done ladies we shall come again they also have a points card for drinks so you get a chance to have a free one!

I have visited The Bean And Vine twice over the last week, we went Christmas Eve afternoon with family members and the dog, we sat outside and had lovely hot drinks, then Wednesday 29th Dec with my partner, I had the best Hot Chocolate ever, if you fancy something stronger to drink they do serve bottled beer and wine, if you are in Newark Market try this local place for something to eat or drink, you won't be disappointed.

Really pleasant cafe. The staff were friendly. I had a beer, Maid Marian by Springhead brewery. Really nice to see local ales in independent cafes. My wife had the house sauvignon which was beautiful. Really nice location however we visited on a drizzly sunday and so the market Square was empty. I'd like to think in the spring summer evenings the area would be much busier with people milling about. Didn't eat but the cakes looked good and the menu had some good choices. I'd like to see some patio heaters outside with a few more tables and chairs. It works on the continent and Newark has lots of potential to be a really nice cosmopolitan town. Haven't lived in the area long but enjoying finding gems like the bean and vine. Good job.

We visited on a cold Sat afternoon so we decided to opt for the soup. The soup was broccoli which was very tasty but the portion size was very disappointing !!I am a petite lady who doesn't eat a lot but even by my appetite basis I came out of the cafe feeling really hungry , the bowl wasn't full & we got half a piece of bread ! We have visited this cafe before on a few occasions & to be fair the food has been good maybe we caught them on a bad/ not generous day

Needed a coffee and Cake mid afternoon on a Saturday after a walk along the river. Lots of places to choose from but this place had great kurb appeal. Very good coffee and a nice piece of coffee cake. It is quite tight for room and was quite noisy when we were there but it didn't spoil it at all.

Take a seat overlooking the Market Square, taste the real coffee and enjoy the sumptuous sandwiches. The only thing missing was the warm sunshine, but the warmth of the welcome and speedy service was good compensation and made this visit, like many others, memorable and enjoyable at the Bean and Vine. Give it a try you wont be disappointed - you may even enjoy the friendly chat and banter whilst sitting outside.

went for a lunch time snack with my wife and a friend it was ok but the sandwich presentation could have been better . My friend ordered a Pimms after seeing it advertised on a table flier but she had to wait a while because they did not have enough ingrediants eg some of the fruit . Staff are welcoming but waiter tended to hover a bit because my friend was taking her time looking at the menu and i think she ordered soup of the day because she felt a bit pressured . May go again but the jury is still out for all of our party.

A beautiful little place, set just by the market square offering lovely views of the town centre. It's lovely too see that they have retained a traditional looking shop front which compliments it's surroundings. The coffee is divine, brilliant staff and the food looks fabulous and smells delicious. Easily the best place for catching up with friends or just watching the world go by enjoying a drink and a slice of cake. A real gem.

Definitely the best cakes I've had in a cafe , the brownie and flapjack were unreal , Only thing I'd slightly say is that I'd have liked a large latte in a round mug 👌😍

As one earlier contributor mentioned it is ‘card only’ but is clearly stated on the door. What a wonderful pub this is. It’s like stepping back in time and has a super range of draft ales, craft ales, ciders and some stouts too. The beer was excellent and served by knowledgable bar staff who clearly know their subject. The interior of the pub retains a quirky railway theme and it was spotlessly clean and had a good trade mid afternoon on a wet Tuesday. There is plenty of choice for non beer drinkers too. A lovely range of bar snacks available too. A real gem of a pub and I’d strongly recommend a visit to this CAMRA award winning venue.

Had been meaning to give this place a go for weeks, as we constantly drove past the sign. Never got the opportunity for one reason or another. So we took a chance and gave it a whirl on a weekday. It was very nice, welcoming, etc, etc. However, the prices did seem way off the scale for what appeared when the order arrived. It was very expensive and not THAT good to be honest. You don't mind paying a premium when the quality is top notch, but this really wasn't. No better than what you would expect to find in a supermarket and twice the cost. We left bitterly disappointed and still a bit hungry.

I went on sun and they did my daughter's meal wring and then they didn't have any wraps left for her to have it so had to get a refund. Then I ordered my food at 11.27 and asked for a cooked breakfast to be told that had now stopped and was now a carvery which I ordered with a take out coke. Told they would bring out my meat for me. Waited 30 mins for this only not had it brought to me. And during this time I ordered a burger for one of our party and he received that and o was still waiting .Went to complain and ask for my money back only to be told by the the staff that I didn't order one and she was really rude. I explained it was the other girl who served me and told her how I paid and what money I paid with consisted of. Only to be told again I hadn't ordered anything. Then she spoke to the other who confirmed this and she then said she would give me a refund no apology or anything.
