The Beambridge Inn Restaurant in Taunton Deane

Our family have been to The Beambridge Inn many times to celebrate special occasions within the family and have always had an excellent meal and relaxed dining experience. The booking on this occasion was requested via email two months earlier for our mother’s 90th birthday. We were all seated shortly after 12.30pm and the drinks orders taken first. The staff were working extremely hard, due the number of guests throughout the Inn, the meal orders weren’t taken until shortly before 1pm. The majority of us had the carvery and one of the party ordered off menu. The queue at the carvery counter was very long extending to the bar and we were the last table to be invited up, although we had decided to join the back of the queue at around 13.15pm we were seated back at the table. After we had finished at around 13.50pm, we presented Mum with her birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday along with the surrounding tables. As a sweet-toothed family we always look forward to the comprehensive dessert selection that is offered, complete with a coffee to finish off. So shortly after 2pm when our server came to the table we were expecting to order desserts, but instead it was to tell us that he needed our table as there was another party waiting for it! This came as a big shock as when the original table booking was made there was no mention of it being a timed table, and indeed nothing was mentioned on our arrival. In fact, three of the group had recently ordered drinks and so they had to drink their beer standing up as we were being ushered out of the door. It culminated into a really disappointing and upsetting dining experience, and certainly not the lasting memory that we expected to stay with us for our Mother’s 90th birthday.

Excellent meal at a reasonable price. Food beautifully cooked and served. Service excellent and people friendly. We were staying overnight and also found the breakfasts excellent.

Went as a belated New Year family get together. The service was cheerful and helpful. The food however was very disappointing. Calamari was average but expensive for just 5 small pieces…..over a pound a piece! Mushrooms were in a thick hard coating. Both were clearly just straight from a packet into the fryer. Mains were ok, nothing more. Pie was a solid lump of hard puff pastry with a small amount of meat inside, that was again clearly straight from the freezer. Couldn’t eat the pastry. More like a very solid pasty. Burgers were also supermarket standard ones, not freshly made. Should have had the curry maybe as according to the menu it is homemade. But the worst thing was the awful smell from the loos every time the door was opened. None of us used them as the smell was so unpleasant we couldn’t face them. Make sure you sit as far away as possible.

The Beambridge just hosted a birthday party for my wife in their function room. We had some guests who stayed in the rooms at the Inn and reported to me that the rooms were lovely. My wife has difficulty walking, but access was easy, with disabled parking around the back, which leads straight in where you will find the toilets, the through the door leading to the bar and dining room. So wheelchair users who want to enjoy the carvery or evening meal can do so with minimal difficulty. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Not forgetting the chef/kitchen staff who arranged a fantastic buffet, which was amazing. I had so many positive comments about the quality of the food. The function room was excellent. We only had thirty people in our part, but the room will hold a lot more, suitable for weddings, conferences, and any family occasions. Lastly, I would like to thank Black Velvet DJ, who the Beambridge organised for me. I asked for a DJ to provide the entertainment and explained the type of music we would like and we weren't disappointed, the music, lighting and dance floor all added to making this venue the perfect place for a perfect birthday party. After hearing so many people rave about this carvery, it felt right to give it a go! Really wish I hadn’t. Whilst I cannot fault the meat it was falling apart the rest of the food was not great. Yorkshire’s so dry you needed heaps of gravy to be able to eat them. Roast potatoes were harder than the crackling from the pork I nearly lost my filling from my tooth, dry and tasted like they had been reheated from the day before. And don’t get me started on the waitress service! First rule of waitressing you do not ask people if they have finished on a table while others are still eating… it’s rude, unprofessional, makes others feel rushed and a sure fire way to ensure you don’t get any tips! Won’t be returning for food here.

Disappointing, we have regularly visited here in the past for Sunday lunch and chose to visit on a Friday evening. There were 12 of us and the food itself was lovely but the service was absolutely terrible. Someone ordered a starter as a main, the waitress said this was ok but it ended up coming out before everyone else’s main. When I said I had asked for it as a main the lady at the bar said sorry the chef got confused. I asked for it to be taken back and brought out with the main (it was literally the same plate that came out 20 mins later as the melted cheese was cold). 2 mains never came out, the orders got lost and came out after we had eaten. A dessert got forgotten and never appeared, along with a coffee that was ordered and never came out. We asked for the bill and left, no tips were given and we will not be returning again. What a shame, there is no point having an exceptional chef if your FOH is of a poor standard as customers especially locals like ourselves will not return and will not recommend.

So I attended a wedding here in September 2023, and have held off writing a review in the hope that the owners would address the issues raised,but sadly they have not. They turned my nieces wedding into a day to remember for the wrong reasons the manager was curt and rude to the guests. The bar wasn't stocked which lead to guests having to go out to buy there own drinks from a local supermarket. I Will say the cavery was of a fair standard but did not expect to be told off by the manager because I didn't get to the dessert table in a timely fashion but I guess that is classed as my fault for walking with a stick and not being offered any assistance from staff members. My next concern was the cleanliness of the function room the floor by my table was in a disgusting state with food from a previous function visible to see surley it doesn't take that much time to vacuum a room before. Sadly I will not be recommending this as a venue for events being held in the future which is a shame as it is a central location.

Absolutely disgusted with the planning of the wedding yesterday. Ran out of core alcohol like vodka and draught lager. Manager couldn’t care less either.

As a guest at a wedding we were massively disappointed with the level of planning from the management. Refused to replace spirits and lager that had run out before the ceremony. Made the bride late for photography by failing to plan ahead. Complete lack of organisation or understanding that their job was to ensure everything ran smoothly. Chaotic is a complete understatement! Would not recommend, will NOT be booking for my own daughters wedding here! So many missed opportunities to make this day memorable for the right reasons.

We visited with 5 children and 4 adults. I checked the website before hand and children’s menus were £6.50 for a mains, desert and a fruit shoot drink. On arriving we ordered from a good selection. 2 of the children didn’t have the stated drinks so we asked or the spare drinks as they came as part of the package. At this point we were told that the drinks were no longer included and the meal was now £8.50! This meant that the children’s meal was actually £10.70 as the fruit shoots were £2.20. The food was ok but the website was misleading. As far as I am aware it is still showing the incorrect price

We went for Sunday lunch, the food was reasonable although the cauliflower was a bit hard. The service was the on the slow side which would not have mattered but after we had hardly finished our desserts we were asked to vacate the table as it was needed for other people. We were going to stay for coffee. On the way out we took this up with the person taking the money she said on a Sunday the tables had to be vacated after an hour and a half. We complained that we had not been told this when we booked.

This meal was absolute rubbish and I should clearly have chosen the carvery as my friends did. Some of the ham was almost white in colour and the note I sent to the Chef that it should never have left the Kitchen was ignored. No apologies, no reduction, no explanation. Nothing - and third chips were definitely not fresh!

We enjoyed dinner on our first night in Somerset, which was a Monday and most restaurants/ pubs were not open. This was delicious, the homous, olives,salad and pitta with balsamic & olive oil. Then we chose a chicken,ham & mushroom pie with mash and mixed veg and pork loin with mushroom and bacon with new potatoes and mixed vegetables of carrots, beans, broccoli . Service was exceptional, rarely experienced these days. Would recommend.

Stayed here overnight for work. Lovely welcome, room clean and very comfortable Had supper, food excellent and very reasonably priced. Staff friendly and professional, nothing too much trouble. Five of us met here to celebrate one of our company's birthday. We were not greeted when we arrived. We were shown to a table where four of us awaited the arrival of the fifth person. The waitress told us she was new and did not know what she was doing. Twice she said this. A good start! She neither asked if we wanted ice in the soft drinks, or new how much the carvery was (3 different sizes). We were not offered to see the menu apart from the carvery. When we went up to get our food, one of our party was vegetarian and asked for the veggy option. This never arrived and no-one came to let us know what was happening. After we had all 4 eaten our food, still no veggy meal so the lady asked for her money back. No apology was offered or any recompense. Twice servers came and tried to sell us desserts, but during the meal no-one came to check if all was well. It was not. This was probably the worst service we had all experienced in a long time. The food was good except that the small carvery had only enough meat to barely cover a post card while the large appeared to be half a cow. Incidentally the vegetarian was also the birthday girl. What a let down for her and an embarrassment for the rest of us. We had to stop for chips on the way home which was not what we intended for her. Also a pint of cola for £4.00? Someone is having a laugh. No - we will not be back.

This was only the second time I have been to The Beambridge. The last was in the last century; because the portions were, then, rather parsimonious. This time, things had definitely improved: although I did choose the 'large' carvery portion. The staff were excellent; especially the 'jolly', and competent, carver/chef: there was an excellent selection of vegetables, and the gravy was delicious. We had a "new" member of staff writing down our orders, who had obviously had insufficient training before serving the public. Communication is vital: and there were no 'greetings', no instructions as to how to order a carvery, and how and when you pay. The website declares them to be "vegetarian-friendly and with vegan options". One of our five is vegeterian; but was told they require forewarning (despite that website declaration). Consequently, we had all finished our meals: and her's had not turned up; requiring a refund. We departed without ordering a dessert. In this area of Somerset/Devon, the 'Gold Standard' for carveries is set by 'THE HARE & HOUNDS', just to the south of Honiton. I would recommend that the owners of the Beambridge see how things should be done.

Looking for a carvery for an impromptu Sunday lunch so stopped at Beambridge Inn. Staff were very friendly and helpful but the best was yet to come. We both selected a carvery, and oh what a treat. Probably one of the best prepared and cooked that I have ever had. The meat and vegetables we're cooked and seasoned to perfection. Perfect food served in pleasant surroundings. Excellent well done. Nothing to recommend this place at all. Level of service was poor, menu completely uninspired and the hand-dryer in the ladies' loo didn't work. No atmosphere/ambience. Don't bother.

Having not been since before Covid, we were impressed that table service now takes any significant queuing out of the carvery experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious as ever - tender joints, accompanied by 7 vegetables as well as 2 types of potato. An added bonus was the availability of real decaffeinated coffee, when so many pubs/restaurants think instant coffee acceptable (which it's not). Well done, The Beambridge. Justifiably popular with locals, but also well worth hungry travellers slipping off the M5 between Jc 26 and Jc27 for a meal.

The food was unexceptional but acceptable. Lamb shank was cooked OK but fairly tasteless. I would have had a desert but, having waited 15 minutes for a menu that didn’t come, I had lost interest. Table was sticky, suggesting that it had not been cleaned well after having something spilt on it. Although the tables were well spaced, I was surprised that hand sanitiser did not appear to be available. Staff were friendly although not very efficient.

I look forward to the day that we can all loiter around the bar again. I think it would have a good feel then too.We went to Taunton on Saturday for drinks and food. Taxi was £30 each way. I live rurally, so the cost of the taxi may seem steep, but Taunton has some really nice bars and pubs with beer gardens that are well worth taking advantage of.We'll deffo be back at some point in order use as a hub between Taunton / Wellington etc.

Had wedding reception booked for June 2020 had paid deposit and additional money, was told no refund. had to rebook date. Date rebooked reluctantly... Then told several changes to initial booking. We didn't accept but told we would loose all money. After several emails I asked if as goodwill gesture they would refund half money paid. Not great experience but I did manage to get some of the money back. After agreeing to put in writing I would not hold reception and would be final outcome.Would not recommend as deposit says not refundable if I cancelled but original contract was not carried out by venue due to Covid-19 but was not me who couldn't carry out contract. Have informed trading as goverment site said should be fully refunded.

An excellent meal, my sea bass was superb, and the waiters/waitresses were so helpful and charming that the whole celebration couldn't have been better. We have dined here many times before lockdown but this was our first foray for a celebration.

As this was our first meal out since February I was very impressed with the Covid safety measures they had in place. It was all very well organised and we felt very safe. Well done the Beambridge! The roast was delicious too, the servers very polite and attentive. We’ll definitely visit again.

Visited for the first time for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent (we both had roast beef) included 7 different vegetables + new potatoes alongside roast potatoes. 3 different sized meals to choose from, we both had the regular which was plenty. The gravy was gorgeous & would go back for that alone! The staff were friendly, efficient & attentive though not in your face. Tables were spaced correctly due to current times & being sterilised very effectively between customers. Will definitely be returning, keep up the great job you're all doing & thank you for a lovely visit.

My partner and l met up with some friends for the first time since lockdown. We chose the Beambridge because we have eaten here and had takeaways before. We were not disappointed again today because the service was attentive and friendly, the food was quick to arrive, the food was hot, plentiful and tasty and we had a lovely time. Covid 19 guidelines were clearly displayed and adhered to. I would not hesitate to recommend the Beambridge and the staff are a credit to them.

First time out for a meal since beginning of March. Beambridge looked after us during lockdown, providing groceries and locally sourced products to the door. Also providing take away meals again delivered to your door. Today, no worries about anything! Just come back from having Sunday lunch at The Beambridge, tasty meat, fresh home cooked vegetables. Meat, yorkshire & potatoes plated veg served in a divided dish plenty with a jug of gravy. Went for our first meal out since the lockdown. Very well organised and felt very safe. Friendly welcome and shown to our table and procedures explained clearly re ordering etc. Staff all very helpful when choosing what we wanted. Food was excellent. Very large portions, well cooked and beautifully presented. Good choice too. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and we felt very safe because of all the safety procedures in place which were upheld and observed by the owner and all the staff. This pub has been serving the community during lockdown (and still continuing) by setting up a takeaway and delivery service for hot meals, groceries, meat, fruit and veg and much more. Anyone could survive during lockdown by just using the wonderful service they have created. They are a credit to the community and deserve everyone’s support. My thanks to everyone involved at the Beambridge, including the volunteer drivers and especially the most enjoyable visit for our lovely meal and for bringing some normality back into our lives.

I Was Torn Between The Roast Beef And The Steak And Ale Pie But After Seeing The Pie Arrive At Another Table Across From Us It Made My Mind Up And I Am So Glad I Went For It!The Waitress Serving Us Allowed Me To Make A Few Small Changes To The Meal As I'm Quite A Fussy Eater However She Made Me Feel So At Ease And Nothing Seemed Too Much Trouble.Thankyou So Much And Hope To See You Again Soon

First time eating out last night since lockdown began, had several takeaways from Beambridge, Booking was easy with a reply within an hour with confirmation, the welcome when we arrived was very good, shown to our table observing social distancing. Food was very good, good portions and very tasty, and service was very efficient and always cheerful under challenging circumstances.Well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. Popped in for a drink after a lovely walk along the Tiverton Canal, staff very pleasant and helpful, due to Covid 19, our drink order taken at table and served very quickly even though they were clearly busy, we just had a drink this time, but the roasts being served looked lovely, so we will be back to sample those next week could not fault the friendliness and cleanliness, all so important at this time.

Just had a delivery from the Beambridge, very good roast dinner and lamb burger couldn’t fault it. The delivery service was brilliant.

We ordered a meal to be delivered last night, the food was delicious and piping hot. We had fish and chips, steak pie with vegetables and yummy gravy and a burger. My Father tried to offer delivery person a tip and he replied "not necessary just enjoy your meal". - Thank you so much, we really did!

We came here as a big party and had a very enjoyable meal Gopd food well served and no one tried to push us out. As it should be and well done. Good choices for the various member of the party.

We had a take away a couple of weeks ago and were very happy with the wonderful service and the quality of the food. Decided to go back again this evening for a treat during Covid 19 and we were not disappointed with both the service and the quality of the food. Three different dishes all of a high quality.Would highly recommend the Beambridge.

I rang this morning to order some food to take away for mothers day dinner. I think it's great that the Beambridge are adapting to serve their food via take away because of the current issue with corona virus. It keeps their business and staff afloat and helps people like me who wanted to take mum for dinner get the same cooked meal she deserves! I spoke to Brandon and Craig (I think) on the phone this morning, and though it must be a hard change going from wait staff to phone take away within a couple of days, they remained happy and helpful. There was a minor hiccup but it went smoother than I expected it to go considering the circumstances. Well done guys, you're doing great! When I went to collect the staff were friendly and chatty. I can't express what a great experience the whole take away process was. The food was fantastic as always and still hot when we got home (which most actual take aways cant seem to do) so well done everyone, you're all smashing it.

Myself and two friends always have lunch here once a month,the menu changes frequently and we always manage to find something we like,but if on the rare occasion we don’t they are more than happy to make us a sandwich or accommodate us somehow,the atmosphere is nice and the staff are always very friendly and super helpful... see you next month

Great place to eat, always friendly staff and very helpful, good for functions, food has always been very good, the daily lunch time carvery is excellent, There pies are also very good I would recommend this venue.

The Beambridge offers great pub food in a nice Restaurant area that includes a Carvery (certainly on a Sunday) and it is excellent. Great for couples, families and friends. Good service with happy staff!

We took 2 good friends here for a carvery meal followed up by a dessert and we ( and they ) were very impressed. The food and service were excellent, the restaurant was quite busy but we did not feel left out, we will be going again.

Carvery very good , We were a party of 3 . A choice of three meats & 3 size meals to suit all . Choice of veg Well worth a visit if you like good food

Had a staff Xmas meal for 9 at one of the disco party nights. Plenty of food and all served hot. Great evening and had a fab room and breakfast as well

A fantastic place for a proper carvery. Good proper real food. Good selection of vegetables & choice of meats. Gluten Free Gravy available on request.
