A few of my guests had spoken highly of The Beacon so thought I'd try it out. The food was very good, service good, location is good, tucked away. It was a Sunday lunch time and there was a family in with a noisy child, not naughty but noisy so I struggled to hear my friend talking even though we sat next to each other, evenings might be better. The most expensive roast I've had in Hastings, very good food but not the best roast I've had for value for money.

Wonderful views, definitely worth a visit! We visited The Others' Market, hosted in the back garden. Really lovely staff, great atmosphere, great drinks - a treasure for any 'alternative' traveller out there! It's off the road on a gravel track, quite easy to walk down to. We used the West Hill funicular to get back down into Hastings.

Do you want a backyard barbecue but don’t have a backyard, or a barbecue? Then look no further than The Beacon! Venture just 5 mins inland and up some cliffs from the amazing seafront in Hastings and you will come across this place tucked down a little lane. It’s relaxed vibe is very much like being at your own house. The gardens at both sides are great with stunning views. We hosted a surprise birthday here and hired a band and specific catering (by the Beacon team) and it was all spot on. Staff were just so friendly, fun and helpful. Thank you! This is just a great, maximum relaxation place to hang out. My only very very minor constructive point would be to put burgers back on the menu! The roasts are delish though. If you have a low or wide car, don’t attempt to drive down the track. We parked in the surrounding roads instead and it was totally fine.

Great Sunday lunch - excellent food including great Yorkshire puddings with all mains; lovely cheerful service and totally child and dog friendly. We were 11 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs so sampled the roast lamb, fish, nut roast and children's meals plus the special Easter puddings. We were happy with everything!

This is a fantastic collective community / art space that also does amazing Sunday Roasts. A great community oriented place that is family and dog friendly. Small fsmily run business and i think there is some voluntary aspect to the organisation, so not a gastro pub however food is absolutely superb and the service i received was also excellent. I visited for a Sunday roast in November 2022 and I thought it was great. Excellent quality food good wine list and the place is full of quirty art and the building and gardens are used regularly for community projects. Highly recommended a visit and all the food is locally sourced and sustainable so i wholeheartedly support their ethos

The Sunday roast is expensive but then it was obviously prepared by a top quality chef and this would have been three times the price in London. The food was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent fast and friendly and the surroundings are quite enchanting. My one slight criticism is that I wish a gratuity hadn't been added to the bill as no-one is going to appear like Scrooge and say 'no, take it off', I feel that should be left to the discretion of the customer. Anyway, the food was heavenly so who cares.

The location was nice. Large garden with a fire, well-furnished with plenty of space. A good selection of drinks available at the bar, too. A good atmosphere overall. The service however, was horrendously slow. Even buying a round of eight drinks took at least 20mins. Eight pizzas (cooked in an outdoor pizza oven which should have taken a minute or so) took over an hour and came out in pairs with 20mins between each pair, meaning our table did not eat together. The pizzas were nice, but were extremely overpriced for what they were. £13 for some dough with a few shreds of ham and a single mushroom on top.

A friend pre-booked the Beacon for a Sunday lunch. A nice garden setting and friendly staff but clearly unable to cope with the demand on a busy Sunday. We had to wait 90 minutes for our food to be served and when our roasts arrived the potatoes and vegetables were cold. There was no Yorkshire pudding and the vegetables consisted of green beans and lettuce, an unusual combination. It would also have been nice to have been asked how the beef was to have been cooked - it was rather rare for two of the party but by this time we were just happy to have something to eat. To be fair the staff were very apologetic about the wait but overall not a great experience and one very similar to that recently posted by JohnR (May21).

I went there with a friend. We pre-booked a table, and we pre-booked a meal, a few days beforehand Pros - we had a nut roast, I think that’s probably one of the nicest nut roasts I’ve ever had, so well done for that! The staff were friendly. Cons - Considering we had pre-booked the table and the meal, having to wait over 45 minutes for ours was not acceptable. By the time we got there it seemed most of the people had received their meals so I don’t think there is an excuse for being overworked in the kitchen! My second point is that Yorkshire pudding is one of my favourite parts of a roast meal. The Yorkshire puddings we received were small & pale in colour, obviously out of the freezer because the middle was still cold! By this time we were pretty fed up and weren’t up to complaining. The damage was done.

We had booked ahead for the Sunday roast and exchanged e-mails re: this. So were taken aback upon arrival to find that the owner had forgotten to actually transcribe the info into the reservation book. Despite many empty tables in the dining area, we were seated in the entrance hall where we were in the path of all traffic in and out of the restaurant and the line-up to the bar. As well, the restaurant is a clothing "shop" - we were seated in front of the racks and people peered and reached around us as we sat to examine the clothing. On the positive side, it didn't seem as noisy there as in the dining area, where there were screeching children in an enclosed space. The food was excellent apart from the actual roast, which was a lean, tough cut of beef difficult to cut due to dull knives and very wobbly table. Staff pleasant, but a little off-hand. We had thought of booking the b&b, but the whole set-up seemed a little too smug in the end.

Doing a vegetarian Sunday Roast with Yorkshire pudding already gets my vote.... this was actually a really good one as well . The vegetarian addition to the roast potatoes etc was a pie that had so many tasty ingredients I couldn't really start to explain what was in it. Gravy too. It was a rainy day and the log burner and warm inviting bar/restaurant and staff made it a great experience. Very laid back and friendly. Our baby girl usually gets bored with being in a high chair, but here she was able to have a bit of freedom investigating the other tables as the other guests were very relaxed and friendly people. We had such a nice time that we will be going back again.

Es una especie de Civic Center/centro cultural, en la cima de una colina donde se puede ver la parte antigua de Hastings. We stayed here for a couple of nights and were made to feel very welcome. It has more the feeling of 'en famille' rather than a formal hotel setting so probably not one for people looking for a more Travel Tavern experience. Clean and tidy but with masses of arty character, which probably sums up the clientele as well. The meal was like the accommodation in that it was obviously prepared for us by someone who wanted us to enjoy it, was excellent value and served without any feeling of pressure to finish and leave the dining room. A perfect base from which to explore this vibrant and fascinating town. many thanks!

We chose the beacon because it was last minute booking and there wasn't a lot left in Hastings, but you never know...sometimes these spur of the moment choices can work out well. Now I wasn't going to review this hotel because I don't like giving poor reviews if there is no need to, but because I booked on air bnb and the owner felt she had to leave a review on me saying "I chose the wrong hotel because my children have allergies and they have a dog" I think I should clear this one up:When we got to the hotel, it was very dimly lit, we thought we had gone to the wrong place, reminded me of the derelict restaurant in the goonies, we were greeted by Judy who was delightful to be fair, she made a real effort with our children, a fantastic warming host.My boy Finley was excited to jump up into the quirky mezzanine bed in our room, but found black dog hairs all over the sheets, now it feels very awkward brining this up right at the beginning of your stay so we mentioned it quietly "could we please have some spare sheets", our host asked why, "because we would just like to change our bed sheets", saying discreetly "there's dog hairs on it, we don't mind but could we just change them please", well I'm not sure if the host was embarrassed but instead of promptly resolving the matter to stop any awkwardness, she went up and inspected the sheets saying "well I don't know how these got on there, my dog doesn't come in the bed". It made us feel very awkward so we made excuses and just said "it's probably got into the washing pile or something but if we could just change the sheet that would be amazing as our son gets excema", then our host went and finally got a couple of single sheets because she had run out of doubles (something I found very peculiar for a hotel?)But apart from this the stay was nice and I wasn't going to write anything but it appears that the host wanted a review from me, so it's a neutral one overall. I hear that breakfast was nice although I didn't stay for it.There was a clear glass window at the top of the door to the bedroom, I would advise some frosted Perspex to add a bit more feel of privacy in the bedroom :)

Looks like my review was removed. I was here last night but only men were served even though I was there first. I objected as a staff member reached past my left ear to take money from man behind me. As my review as been removed with no apology from the pub management, I will now forward a complaint to the licensing department. I won't go away until the pub changes its practice. Equality for all customers.

This is situated near the Rock-a-Nore car park by the wonderful black fishing huts of Hastings. Very friendly service and dog friendly. We both had sea bass on crushed potatoes and carrot puree with a butter and garlic sauce. One of the best fish meals I’ve ever had- and I’ve had a lot. Delicious.

Went in for a coffee and cake with my partner, which was a little over priced but OK. Unfortunately I was appalled by awful behavior of a member of staff to a customer. They had bought a coffee, but had purchased a pastry from elsewhere previously, and was picking at it out of the bag. It was pointed out to them in the bluntest of terms that the pastry was not purchased from the shop, and the customer was politely apologetic. Increadibly the staff member launched into a tirade of abuse creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere for all. She was certainly rude and almost bullying in her approach. Very unprofessional and I'm sure that the customer will never visit again. For that matter, I don't think that I, or my partner, would want to go to a place where staff behave in this way.

Didn't really feel cosy or have any atmosphere which are things I like from places serving coffee. Understand it to be very popular with its regulars, though, just not for me
