Oh wow the decor from the outside tempting but looks expensive and shiny. Then you walk in and feel like you've walked into a diner from the legendary era of film and movie stars. Only it's you that's the special occasion and your friends and family who love the inside and friendly feel of the singing and ambience. I love you all that you for making me feel at home. Sweet potato fries and a black coffee is my recommendation. Hope you enjoy as much as I did Thank you

Visiting the area and hoping for a light bite and a coffee. A local suggested The Bay Tree as an alternative to the branded offerings on the high strret and oh boy, what a delight! Staff were so friendly and accommodated our needs effortlessly. The decor downstairs is quirky and fun, upstairs elegant with a contemporary twist on the art deco theme. The food... yum yum yum. We shared a plate of Welsh rarebit and a portion of parmesan & truffle oil sweet potato fries with two Americano coffees. The food was absolutely delicious, and there is no doubt we will return when in the area again.

Disappointing. Waitress never said hi just stared at us. Then took our order from across the room. Floor was filthy so I didn’t hang around for food. Yuk.

We had a very nice lunch here. The ploughman’s came on a massive tray that my husband couldn’t finish. Tasty Welsh rarebit. All freshly made and a great big pot of tea. All lovely! We enjoyed the quirky vintage decor too.

Really disappointed with our visit we had been previously and really enjoyed our food, but unfortunately this time all 4 of us were left feeling let down. 2 of us had what said on the menu was a sausage bap, but we were served a sausage ciabatta instead which was dry, and the sausage skin was quite chewy. The chilli chicken ciabatta again was dry. Coffee cake didn't really taste of anything, again very disappointing. Sorry for negative review, the staff are lovely, but that's not good enough, food needs to be so much better.

Quirky café with different themed areas. We sat in the fairground section, in a Wurlitzer car. Good service and nice food too.

Here today and loved it what a quirky place. Lots to look at with vintage and antique decorations. The food was amazing I had ham, cheese and caramelised onion toasted chapatti, was so tasty and the fries, salad and coleslaw that came with it was lovely. Went to the toilet and was surprised to see how much more of the cafe there was lots more seating and quirkiness continued. Highly recommended and should be the number 1 place to go in my eyes

Poor service (took too long to take the order & no one asked if the food was OK after it arrived), very wobbly table that was the wrong height for the leather chairs that are too large for the space, noisy (we were given a table in the front near the coffee machine & blender). Worst of all was being served soup that was dangerously hot. It came in a narrow bowl shaped like a plant pot and had obviously been overheated in the microwave. It burnt my mouth and the waitress was unconcerned when I told her. A stressful, unpleasant experience..

We came to the Bay Tree for our work Christmas do this year. To be honest, the staff seemed to struggle a little with the approx 40 people we took, with quite long waits before the food was ready and between courses. In the end, however, the food was fairly good and, for me, the evening was made after the meal when we came down from the function room upstairs to the main quirky pub / wine bar area where there was a live performance underway. This really made the festive atmosphere and, for me, made it a very enjoyable evening.

I have not been to Welshpool for several years but was delighted to find this gem of a cafe today. It has lovely quirky decor, a great atmosphere and fantastic, reasonably priced food. The staff were helpful and attentive. We will be back.

Not everyone wants a roast on a Sunday, so when I thought about where to take some visitors from our India office for lunch after visiting Powis Castle, the Bay Tree came to mind. The welcome was warm as usual, the setting and decor, a homage to mid twentieth century advertising. It was a new and unique experience for my visitors. I had a Welsh ploughman’s which was absolutely ginormous and delicious. Served in ... I kid you not... a Wok. Generous chunks of Snowdonia Cheese company black bomber and other flavours, prime ham, pork pie, chutneys, slaw, hot roll... I could go on, but look at my photos. My guests had lighter bites, two going for Coronation Chicken tortillas with fries and they loved the sweet curry flavouring of this filling created for the 1953 Coronation (amused by the story of its creation). The 4th member of my party had Macaroni cheese, also delicious. Overall a faultless service of gorgeous food. Lunch for 4 people for £35....Beat that ! Highly recommended.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
