We live in the neighbouring village and often drop in for Sunday lunch. It's consistently hassle free, date I say relaxing, even with two young children in tow. The staff are lovely and friendly and are always on hand to serve. The food is all cooked freshly in house and hits the spot. The other day my wife and I dropped in with our youngest for lunch on Friday for a change, and again it was spot on. I had the fish and chips and it was tremendous. The batter was bubbling and crispy, and the fish, thick moist and flaky. The chips and mushy peas were clearly homemade and delicious. My wife and daughter shared a lasagne. It was freshly baked with lashings of creamy cheesy sauce on the top. It was also massive! We're lucky to have such a pleasant traditional old fashioned pub serving great food on our doorstep. And now we're off for Sunday dinner! See you soon! 😊

Close to the bus stop I arrived a little early and went to the local shop for a chocolate bar. They offered to ring the pub, it’s that sort of friendly village. I could wait however. In at -2 waited until room available at 1, had a pint of Guinness and a bacon/sausage sandwich for a tenner - excellent sandwich. Stairs to rim are period steep and the risers need new carpet. I had booked a twin solo occupancy as I believe both rooms here are twins. The bedrooms I suspect had been one very large room. The floor space was not commodious but the beds were firm and comfortable with good quality bedding and attractive duvet covers. Plenty of pillows and spares in the wardrobe. TV was small but in size of room adequate. Top tip, thanks to flatscreen it is better seen on the fireplace. There is Freeview and a built in DVD player, the picture was excellent quality. WiFi is Dee and in the room as well as the pub downstairs. The bathroom was more commodious than the room I. Terms of floor space. The shower ran delightfully hot and had satisfactory pressure. Soap and towels provided. Extractor fan quiet. Both bedrooms are at the back of the original period house so command a view of the enormous car park (a former smallholding?) and the river which is a mere ten minute stroll away. The curtains were thick and excluded the light, even when the illumination came on. There is a good reading light between the beds but the plug sockets are not near the bed which is far from atypical but clearly predated the mobile phone by the bed on charge era. The window is double glazed and largely kept out the noise of the locals outside and the band that was on. I stayed in a Saturday and all was finished by 12:20 and not bad even though I sleep with the window open. Anyway yr staying in a pub - it is to be expected! I checked out at 12 which meant I could go strict to the bar - the general opening hour seems to be 12. Keys to the front door, the residential quarter, and yr room mean you have autonomy of access. Carvery on a Sunday is heaving, the food here really is good and breakfasts are available. The first wave of the Roman invasion stopped here as the Humber was too much for them, not much seems to have happened here since. It remains a charming village with all you need for a viable village: pub, church, post office, village shop (good hours) and all are clustered around the pub.

This is a bit of a late review because I thought I had already done it and then realised I was wrong! My friend and I stayed here a few months ago for two nights and we found the owner absolutely lovely. We arrived on a day that the pub is closed on but she offered to get her husband to cook us some food that night if we wanted to and gave us her mobile to call if there were any problems. We declined the nice offer of food as we had our hearts set on a chippy tea but we appreciated the offer. The rooms are good value, cheap and cheerful and everything you need for a B&B. The breakfast was amazing and well worth the money (I think about £10 each but can't remember). If I was visiting my friend again in this area I wouldn't hesitate to book the same B&B.

I've just been to The Bay Horse at Winteringham for a family meal on a Saturday night. The pub is nice inside, well decorated, and a nice log burner in one room with leather sofas to sit and chill out on a cold night.Service at the bar was very friendly although drinks were rather expensive at £1 a pint more than the equivalent in the next village (Winterton). We took a table by the log burner whoch was cosy albeit rather small as a dining table, and placed our orders from a pretty good range of meals. 5 minutes later the waitress came back and told us they didn't have enough ingredients for 2 mixed grills, rather disappointing considering we were the first table to order on a Saturday night.I did the gentlemanly thing and let my father-in-law have the only mixed grill and changed my order to a cottage pie and onion rings. The food came pretty quick and what a mixed bag it was. The mixed grill was very good (as I would expect for £19), and the ladies in out group had a reasonable pmate of baguettes and chips. I'm sorry to say that my cottage pie was woeful, literally a couple of millimetres of mince with some cheesy mash on top, accompanied by some cheap frozen onion rings. The waitress came back to the table to check everything was ok and I showed her how poor my meal was. She apologised and left again although didn't tell me she was going to do anything about it. A little while later she came back and said they were going to knock 25% of my main course, which I felt did not address how poor the meal really was. I questioned this and she never came back! When the bill came I was very disappointed to see that they had stuck to the original offer and given us just £2.25 off our bill despite the very poor meal I had, and the fact that we'd spent almost £100 there over 3 hours including the drinks.Don't get me wrong, everybody else's food looked ok, but mine was terrible and they just didn't seem bothered about resolving the issues I'd raised despite how much we'd spent.A real shame as it's a nice place inside but I'd really have to be strongly persuaded to go back again.

We visited the Bay Horse last evening after reading on the Internet about how good the meals were. There were 5 adults in our party and my husband was celebrating his 50th birthday so we were wanting something a little better then your average pub meal. However we choose the Bay Horse due to there website rating their homemade speciality chips has amazing but all 5 of us were disappointed. The chips looked and tasted has though they had been warmed up and did not look homemade has they stated. Tip for the landlord , go to Aldi and buy their Speciality chunky chips and bin your own. THE rest of the main meals were all very good and the waitress service too. What a shame a ought the chips.

Had a lovely evening and enjoyable meal. I had prawn cocktail the cocktail sauce was very tasty. It was served with a slice of white bread, I wasn't offered a choice. The portion size was generous and I enjoyed it. My partner had the breaded mushrooms and again it was a generous portion for a starter. I had lasagne for my main course. It tasted very good, plenty of flavour and the garlic bread was nice. My partner had the steak pie, chips and mushy pease, which he thoroughly enjoyed. As we were enjoying it so much we decided to have a dessert. I had cookie dough cheesecake and my partner had chocolate lumpy bumpy cake with ice cream. A lovely meal and we were well looked after by the young waitress. She was extremely hard working and despite having a lot of customers to attend to she kept smiling and seemed to arrive at our table just as we wanted something. All in all a very pleasant evening.

My partner and I went to the Bay Horse tonight for 'steak night'. Two sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for £20.00. The steaks were cooked beautifully; my partner requested his to be cooked medium-rare and I asked for mine to be cooked just slightly rarer than that. They came served with very tasty home cooked chips, onion rings, peas and a tomato wedge. We both really enjoyed every morsel. We managed a pudding too. I had a delightful lemon meringue cheesecake and my partner had jam sponge with custard. Again, couldn't fault it. We will definitely be going back soon. Staff were friendly and attentive too.

Called in with friends who live close by and we have been a few times in the past so we knew it would be good. It was very full so we sat and had a drink first but they soon found us a table. We women had house white wine & soda while the men tried the different beers they had on offer. Noticed a large table of village people celebrateing lunch together and lots of family's eating. Good selection of meats, I went for beef & pork. Lovely Yorkshires. Lots of veg to choose from I went for cabbage, cauliflower cheese and carrots. Then the usual side dishes of apple sauce. Mint. Horseradish. Cranberry, just wished they did onions in vinegar. Beef was really tender. Pork crispy skin and also tender gravy nice and tasty and lots of it. All veg cooked to my liking. Roasts crispy and cooked in the meat juices and new potatoes tasted like new potatoes. We all were very impressed with the meats the men were even given me than one slice of the chosen meats. We women had to try the puddings. I had eaton mess cheese cake and ice cream. Must find the recipe because it was excellent. We then went into the lounge for our coffee's and to let our dinner digest. Service excellent through out. Even to the young chef who was cutting the meats. . Very friendly and welcoming. We have been to this pub several times on Saturday for lunch as we enjoy walking around the area and have always enjoyed the food so decided to try the well advertised Sunday lunch. First of all please note that there are three plate sizes of carvery so the price advertised on the wall is the smallest plate. The whole place is fairly recently decorated with nice tables and chairs and you don't feel cramped at all. We had the medium carvery which was a reasonable size plate with a nice portion of roast, however the vegetables and gravy was horrendous. The roast potatoes were a very odd uniform shape, tasteless and very hard and along with the vegetables all appeared to be from the freezer section of a well known discount store. We couldn't get our knife through the Yorkshire Puddings which we would usually soak in gravy and enjoy the most, unfortunately the gravy was so awul this spoilt the whole meal. Most of the staff are very pleasant but we were very disappointed with this meal and won't be going back on any Sunday.

A party of five of us ate last night at the Bay Horse Winteringham it was absolutelydreadful. Two of us ordered the Woodland chicken which is falsely described as a chicken breast stuffed with pate and back wrapped in Serrano ham served with a red wine, brandy and mushroom cream sauce. One was served with a side salad and the other with fresh veg. Obviously the chef does not know what fresh veg is.The filling was a mess of bread crumbs and goodness knows what else but is most certainly was not pate and bacon the Serrano ham which was supposed to wrap the chicken was about two small fingers wide not hardly visable. The sauce was a pathetic glue like semi transparent glue like substance witch tasted only of warm mixed cornflour. Another of the orders was pesto chicken when it was cut in half it was exactly the same stuffed chicken served as Woodland chicken. When we complained to the waitress she replied that the chicken was a frozen product which was bought in. The other two meals were liver and onions which was accompanied by chips no vegetable side dish offered, when it was served it was a awful looking transport café type with colourless tasteless chips and a bowl of gravy with bits of liver in it. Awful. The last meal was barbeque spare ribs which had about two tablespoon of meat and them and was served with both green and grey peas which must have been older stored ones and fresh green ones this was sent back to have the peas removed and fresh ones served. This took 10 minutes and there was no one else waiting for food. We did complain about the food and was given one of the chicken meals free. But to be quite honest none of it was worth eating or paying for.

I have just had an overnight stop in this lovely little village and popped into this local pub. The menu was reasonably basic but the food tasted great and the atmosphere was very friendly. The barmaid was exceptional, very attentive and also doubling up as our waitress. It appears from the advertising board outside that there are 'specials' every night, last night was curry night and whilst we did not all choose this option every one had a good meal and enjoyed a few drinks to wash it down. If you happen to be in this area I suggest you pay this pub a visit, judging by our experience you will not be disappointed.
