The new managers Steve & Hayley have turned this place into a lovely place to visit. The staff are lovely, spacious seating, a separate dog area, great drinks, food looks amazing, cakes too, a great cuppa and the toast is super yummy You must give this place a try, and you won't be disappointed.

We've been here many a time and always enjoyed the food and good friendly service.. However all that changed today when we met the most rude and unwelcoming member of staff called Hailey who dismissed what we were saying and was very argumentative and extremely rude and dismissive to us. You no longer get our custom or deserve anyone else's... What a fall from grace and hope all the existing staff who were sacked or got rid of much luck in their new positions elsewhere

We visited for Cake and Tea. We were greeted by a nice young lady who explained all the different cakes without even being asked to. Like it. I normally go for a Victoria Sponge but they had none which turned out to be good for me as I chose a Mango Lime and Lemon Cake it was beautiful a huge slice and great tea. Will definitely come back. Love the set up too.

Dreadful service and no welcome. The chalkboard at the entrance to the cafe displayed a closing time of 4pm. My husband and I arrived at 3.40pm to be met with a young lady who met us half way across the cafe area saying "I'm sorry we are closed". We said that we just thought we would order a coffee and she simply repeated the same words to us. We went to pay for our plants at the till and suggested that, if they are actually closing at 3.40pm the cafe might like to adjust theit chalkboard accordingly. The explanation given was that they close well in advance so that they can close down the coffee machine. Should this not be done after closing time and not prior to it?

We had a lovely bite to eat here and it catered for gluten free too. There was a choice of 3 gluten free cakes and there were gluten free alternatives to some of the lunch options too. The omelette was lovely and fluffy and came with a big portion of beans and hash browns. The cinnamon bun with fresh cream is highly recommended too. There is a very wide range of menu choices with plenty of vegetarian options which suited us as a family of vegetarian and meat eaters. Very friendly and obliging staff and a very pleasant environment. We will definitely be going back

I've already reviewed this cafe, so you'll all know that it's a local Gem, but I wanted to mention the selection of cakes that the owner/chef makes on site. Gary keeps the display cabinet full of absolutely delicious range of cakes and bakes. These are a perfect companion to the coffee and teas prepared by the lovely team at Botany Bay Café. My wife and I recently tried Gary's Mango and Passion fruit cake and were absolutely delighted with the flavour and texture. Anyone visiting the Botany Bay Nursery should definitely take the time to treat themselves at the café.

We went for lunch. We hadn't been here before so were unsure what to expect. My partner ordered the big breakfast, I ordered a jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn. We were very pleasantly surprised. Very friendly service which was super speedy, even though they were virtually at capacity. The components of the breakfast were good quality and it was cooked well. The potato was cooked properly and had lots of real butter in it, there was a BIG pile of tuna and sweetcorn to add as required and the biggest side salad I've ever had. It had everything imaginable in it, even pomegranate, pineapple and asparagus plus two types of coleslaw. Good value for money. We would definitely recommend it and will be going again.

We have continued to visit The Bay Cafe on a regular basis over the past 18 months, and whilst some establishments may initially go all out to impress and satisfy, it is clear that the standards, quality, service, food and overall friendly welcome is normal within those walls. The staff have remained warm and friendly, and the food (and amazing cakes) have stayed up there with the best fare we have known. At the risk of sounding like a broken record (or that I have shares in the business), it remains a place of enjoyment for our family, somewhere to sit and eat good food, whilst spending time in the company of people who really care about our experience, going above and far beyond what might be considered normal. To coin a phrase... a little 'Gem' of a place. :-)Long may our friends at The Bay Cafe remain, and long will we continue to visit.

Visited here yesterday with a friend and first impressions were underwhelming but thought well we had heard some people say it was ok . Ordered two tea cakes and two teas.Teas cakes arrived already spread with margarine and mine came with something green in it. Gave it back to staff member and she said it was probably parsley? She would take it out the “him”. Another lady brought me another one and told me he said it was parsley! Now am being stupid here but no explanation as to why parsley would be in a tea cake . No apology so will not be going again. Place looked like it needed a good deep clean. Not impressed.

This is an absolutely fabulous cafe which I have visited a couple of times now with this being my third visit. Despite this I was recognised and welcomed and just goes to show how much they value their customers. The cafe is particularly bike friendly as it has secure outside seating area that can only be accessed through the cafe so you are reassured that your expensive bikes are safe, they're also happy to have lots of bikers. Food is always fabulous and this visit did not disappointed. Had a HUGE hot dog with onions and a cake each, I went for the scone. Lovely hot chocolate as well. Called in for tea and cake with my mum and children. The staff were miserable and kept asking me what else I wanted to order whilst I was still talking to my children asking them what they wanted. The choice of cakes was not very child friendly. My mum had a lemon drizzle which was just plain sponge with lemon curd in the middle, no sign of it ever having been drizzled. The children ended up sharing a bag of goodies which was made up of Tesco bite size flapjack, chocolate crispie bites, cookie, etc. Are you allowed to sell Tesco products as your own? I'm not sure. I've visited a few times since the new management to over and have been disappointed by the cakes every time. Won't be eating there again. Tea was ok....you can't really get that wrong though.

My friend and I went for a quick lunch thought we would try out the cafe, we both had the same which were ham salad sandwiches, the description of the ham was hand cut home cured ham, I couldn’t fault the sandwich if I’d ordered a salad sandwich it was full of salad but the ham was obviously packet ham really thinly cut and with the amount of salad in the sandwich you couldn’t taste it at all, very disappointing, not like the description at all! The only flavour you really could taste is the chunky red onion! It came with more salad and a few crisps, I think if your offering crisps with any sandwich they need to compliment the sandwich and just be plain! These were a weird flavour with a prawn cocktail taste! I’ve been before and have had nice food just disappointed this time!

Headed out on the road bike this morning and decided this cafe would be my halfway stop spot having read the trip advisor reviews. Had a lovely hot chocolate and a nice fresh cream Belgian Bun. Cafe was nice and quiet being about 11am, unfortunately for me the outside seats were damp and I didn't think about the rain overnight so ended up with a slightly damp bum. The food and drink were lovely and I'll definitely be back for something more substantial. Custom service was fab and very friendly and helpful. I think the only suggestion I'd give, would be to be able to access the cafe without going through the garden centre. As a cyclist always looking for somewhere nice to stop it would be perfect if you could access the outside seating from the outside, lean up the bikes and then stick our head into the counter to order and then return to my bike. It was fine today as the centre and cafe was quiet but at busier times I can imagine it would be a bit difficult to get through and there's no way I'm leaving my bike unattended. Again this is only a suggestion and wouldn't put me off returning!

The food here is second to none, everything is freshly prepared to order, apart from the amazing cakes from the counter - these are however also made on site. If you order hot food then that's what you get, there is none of the meals sitting around cooling of before being served, this is one place that forces you to take your time with the meal, you physically can't eat it when it's bought to your table until it has cooled. Top service every time we have visited, and we have never has reason to complain. The prices are excellent, the portions are generous and its definitely worth the wait while your food is prepared. In some ways I regret putting this on here, the place is only small, and now many more will know about it, but it deserves to be shouted from the rooftops, go and enjoy it!

The 'toasted' bread tasted deep fried and the chips were really lovely and chunky but when you bit into them it was all fat and no potato. When I went to pay I was asked how the food was, I said "I'm afraid we left most of it as it was so greasy", we got a "sorry to hear that" but still charged £18 full price. Won't return or recommend.

Visited today & 100% impressed with garden centre & cafe. In all we had contact with 5 members of staff from both the plant area & the cafe, all of whom were refreshingly knowledgeable, helpful & friendly.

We have visited the Bay Café several times and always found the food and service really good. John and Milly always make us very welcome and are happy to make any small changes to our meal requirements to make our stay even more pleasant, not that many changes are needed as the food is always delicious as it is!

Best breakfast in town. So tasty and so reasonably priced. We love that you can choose your own items and get a breakfast that you create entirely. Staff were so friendly- you can tell they enjoy working there. We will definitely be back.

Had lunch today, what a great place. Food excellent, service impeccable and good attention to detail over allergy choices. Dog friendly in fact can’t fault it. Highly recommended.

Park4Night recommendation. Daytime barman was chatty and friendly. Food was high quality - ribeye steak cooked perfectly rare as requested, and exceptional chocolate brownie dessert. Evening serving ladies were pleasant and accommodating. Cosy enough bar area, with a roaring fire in one room. You can eat in the bar area but there is also another large room set out in a restaurant style, and I feel that The Chequers is aiming for more of a fine dining experience than a cosy country gastropub. I would prefer the latter, especially since the prices reflect the former.
