The Bay in Torbay

The decor in this restaurant is beyond beautiful, so cosy. The drinks were high quality not like water, the main course was delicious, we ordered beef burgers. The lady who served us, it was a young, dark skinned waitress, she made our stay, very attentive, helpful, friendly and smiley. The only reason for 4 stars was the dessert, you could tell it was taken out of the fridge, and not homemade. We will come back despite.

My husband and I went here for a quiet birthday dinner for my 30th. The food was amazing and when we were booking my husband mentioned it was my birthday and our first date night since having a baby and staff seemed excited and offered us a complimentary glass of champagne. We had been recommended the restaurant as being perfect for an intimate couples dinner. Unfortunately , as we were dining, there was another large booking who came in midway through our meal. They from the off were ridiculously loud and very drunk on arrival.Followed by one of the partly shortly arriving just after and screeching ‘it’s my birthday’. They were so loud the table next to us asked them to be quiet to which there was more screeches of ‘but it’s my birthday’. The staff wouldn’t do anything and just continued serving them more alcohol, trays of shots. The restaurant is small and has a quiet intimate feel, more suited to smaller tables and a relaxed yet high quality service & food. For the price that the food is , this is what we expected. We wouldn’t have booked here otherwise. Staff were mortified at their behaviour but no-one made any effort to challenge or address the behaviour. It ended in multiple other customers having to challenge the group on their behaviour. I asked for the bill before we had finished eating to get out because it was intolerable; the other group was so loud and obnoxious we couldn’t speak to each other as we couldn’t hear each other across the table. It was hugely upsetting that our evening was ruined. This place needs to decide what its clientele is, whether they want large rowdy groups treating it like a bar or whether it’s a place for a nicer more intimate dinner experience. Its a shame as the food was excellent but the experience was hugely disappointing.

We went for Sunday lunch today and Wow...we were treated like Royalty and our food was absolutely sublime. Big shout out to Richard who is a true gentleman but also having followed him in a few establishments, really makes you feel like a VIP. The food was so tasty and all the family were impressed. Being a vegan it's sometimes difficult to get a decent vegan meal on a Sunday but this didn't disappoint. Food was fresh, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The drinks too were gorgeous with actual decent doses of alcohol in the cocktails with so much choice. The whole team should be proud of themselves for what they provide here. I've been here for coffee before and it was awesome so I'm so glad I came back. We will be back very soon and can't wait to follow the journey of The Bay and hope to keep coming back for more! went for lunch with my friends on their re-opening day and it was absolutely lovely! decor is nice, vibes are nice and food was absolutely delicious. i had a fish pie which was absolutely huge and so decadent. the younger guy with brown hair serving was so lovely and couldn’t do enough for us and the owner (i think) was super kind too. only here for a weekend and it really pleased the whole group

The food was awful, I had the tacos which was cold and my friends had the pasta which was again cold and dry and full of grease. Was like it was microwaved and left on the side or a while. Prices are also ridiculous double vodka and coke £11 which I know for sure wasn’t a double! Staff was lovely but food was gross and over priced. Also we booked in for half 7 to eat and food didn’t come out until quarter to 9 and it wasn’t even busy. Considering we waited so long I expected some good food. Very disappointed

Stopped by when they opened for a quick bite before heading to the station. Initially we wanted mussels, but unfortunately they didn’t have any, so we opted for squid, prawns, garlic bread, and fries instead. Pretty decent. The staff was lovely, so made for a nice end to our visit in Torquay.

We had a great time , thank you for being so accommodating. Richard and molly were so helpful with anything we needed . It was a perfect private room with gorgeous views of the bay! And the food was delicious. Thanks again , two happy baby Mummas 🤍👶🏼✨

What a beautiful lunch we had yesterday sat in the warm sunshine looking out over Torbay @thebaytorquay We had some fabulous food of Honey and thyme halloumi skewers and pulled pork tacos. And fresh french fries. Washed down with a glass or two of white wine. Sat among the olives trees and comfy seating we felt like we were abroad,just watching the world go by. Very chilled. Also I would like to say every member of staff were attentive and welcoming, giving dog biscuits to our dog and just generally asking how you are is something that will always make me want to come back. Under new management we were told they have lots of plans for the near future and I am glad that one of the best spots in Torquay for a restaurant is being nurtured and loved. Looking forward to coming back.

We called in for a quick drink only. The bar is well appointed with lovely views over the bay. It was a bit windy so we were seated indoors. The real down side was the prices which were the highest we had encountered in Torquay. £9 for a 250ml glass of average wine is well over the top.

starter and main dishes are delicious. The dishes are seasoning nicely. If dessert will be paid more effort, in term,of variety and cooking skills, the whole dinner would be perfect. All staff are friendly. Can feel they are nice team working together, relaxing and warm welcoming vibe. Will come again, thanks for all offering us a nice dinner experience.

A pity that after selling the business they didn't make contact with customers who had made a reservation rather than just cancelling the booking! and letting them make their own enquiries for the cancelation! When I called to say my reservation was cancelled he was very offhand and said the business was sold! Which of course is the owners choice 🙄 ! Pity ! _ This Review was left for on the Rocks.! If you edit their account , it will be there! We visited again last week. The service was great and the staff were extremely efficient but the Paella was very poor. It came in a hot pan and the rice was burnt and dry. The duck starter was a disappointment too! Can't say we didn't re try ! 😒

Popped in for a light bite and enjoyed a lovely cocktail and great bruschetta in this tastefully decorated bistro. Staff were very friendly and welcoming despite our late Sunday evening arrival.

A lovely food and cocktails spot boasting views of the sea. It's a really stunning place with lots of attention to detail. Cocktails were lovely, the pina colada was one of the best I've ever had. The food was really good, lots of flavour. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back to try the lunch menu, and pizzas!

Took myself for lunch. I was made very welcome. The staff were excellent and very attentive. The food was excellent and the mango and strawberry tart was divine 😋. The iced lavender and vanilla coffee was so nice I had 2. Plus, a beautiful view across the bay.

If you dont mind waiting 2 hours for your food even when the place is only semi-full, then this is your spot.

Me and my partener we had our holiday in this beautiful town .Being hungry we go out to eat and arrive to this restaurant .After we was ordered our starter, mains and drinks . Before to receive even our drinks, the waiter was arriving also with the bill. Wasn't a problem paying but we finding this was racism because this wasn't happening to the other tables !

We had a wonderful meal this evening and really enjoyed it, the steak was amazing and the Eton mess and brownie are definitely worth a taste - so yummy! Fantastic staff, food and atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting again.

The customer service at The Bay was exceptional. There were some minor hiccups with the food order but the manager and staff was extremely friendly and really cared for their customers. We were on holiday in Torquay so it’ll have to wait till our next visit before our return to The Bay. Highly Recommend!!!!

Had a great night out, fast friendly service and all the food and drink was marvellous. I had the pork croquettes starter, harissa chicken and the tart for dessert. Add on a glass of wine and a really nice espresso martini to finish and the every course was a delight. Very impressed that even though it was busy service was very quick, and the staff were all friendly and knowledgeable, made it a really nice experience and will definitely plan to return.

Good staff pleasant well come clean

Very nice spot and very stylish decor. Unfortunately quite a few things weren’t available on the menu when we went. Service was also a tad slow (was very hard to get the bill) but very friendly. Note they do not do Sunday roasts at present (on the google menu / images it looks like they do)

Very poor experience will not be back.

Waited almost half an hour for two cocktails (during a quiet a period) only to be served a luke warm mojito with no ice, no flavour and couldn't taste any alochol. Pina colada was nice but served in a small martini glass with no pineapple or garnish. Lovely place and location but there needs to be improvement with the cocktails.

Although the waitress was pleasant when we ordered and when she served us, we were unable to catch her eye to advise that there were items missing from the order. By the time she came to ask if everything was okay we had all finished our meals. She was amused as they 'couldn't work out what was missing'. We didn't order any more food/drinks as didn't feel like our custom was valued, will think twice about returning

perfect for cheeky fish and chips on the sea side

Sadly, I chose this place to celebrate my husbands 50th and was incredibly disappointed. The food took over an hour and when it did arrive, the food was cold, the chicken was over cooked as was the pizza with only 3 pepperoni slices! Great place for a drink though and perhaps we were just unlucky, and should have complained at the time but didn’t want to ruin what had been a great evening with friends.

Our group of 15 arranged a celebration at The Bay on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. A warm welcome, delicious food, excellent service, and what a view! A really memorable birthday treat that everyone enjoyed. Many thanks!

Very expensive and ordinary cocktails

Very disappointed in our experience which was made worse by extremely rude and unreceptive manager Michelle. Booked in advance as we were looking forward to trying this restaurant. We waited over an hour and a half for our food to just arrive, despite two other tables who arrived after us having their food and leaving in this time. This was raised to the waitress who agreed it was a long wait and she had already raised it. When the food arrived, three of the roasts had raw meat which was incredibly frustrating after waiting so long, we simply asked if it could be cooked longer, by the time this was sorted the rest of our party had finished their meal. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told she was dealing with some issues with other customers downstairs and would be up when she could. When the manager arrived her attitude was very unreceptive, uninterested and extremely dismissive, stating “what do you want?” Implying we were only raising our issues for our own gain which was extremely rude and completely untrue. The attempt to turn blame amongst us was the most unprofessional thing, stating it only took so long because one person ordered the chicken! Unfortunately this very poor attitude and unprofessionalism continued when we went to pay the bill. We were offered two meals free, yet did not receive an apology or any sign of empathy towards our poor experience. The manager laughed and smirked in my groups face numerous times then proceeded to look us up and down before again laughing. Also, the disgusting attempt to say we didn’t know what we were talking about when in fact two of our party own a restaurant and the other two in our group being managers, we all agreed we had never seen such terrible, rude management in our whole careers. Feel very sorry for the evidently embarrassed staff members who were trying their best and had to witness their managers awful customer service. We definitely will never return and never would recommend under this management. Noticing other reviews I’m sure this will be dismissed but perhaps the management could listen to feedback from various customers and take this on board.

Turned up yesterday without booking at about 4pm . Nothing was too much trouble , very friendly staff and food was lovely, I had tapas , partner (who is extremely fussy) had a burger and both of us enjoyed . We will definitely be back very soon.

Best meal I’ve had in the bay! Nice atmosphere, top knotch

We visited a few weeks ago and it's taken me a while to get my head around it to review. I knew the venue didn't have an accessible entrance for wheelchair users but I explained I would bring own ramps, this is something they certainly could invest in for less than £200, a dunslope lightweight ramp for not only wheelchair users but for pushchairs and those with less mobility. The food looked really good on their social media and so I recommended a friend, who had a really bad experience with food taking ages to arrive but I thought I'd give them the benefits for the doubt in it being a busy night. Booked a table with family and it was all in all a bad experience. We all ordered from the board/platter menu and the food took over an hour to come, they had misplaced our order amongst a large group, but then when the food finally arrived they had missed off the cold platter board entirely, which when we asked where it was, was served after everyone had finished. The boards themselves are very narrow and so all of the overloaded food in the platters spills out onto the table, you can't cut into anything as it's piled up and the wooden boards flex causing food to tumble. The food was tasty, but we had waited so long it was late and nobody felt hungry anymore. I personally had the charcuterie cold meat platter and everything was sweaty and roughly (rushed) chopped. The olives swam in oil where it felt like they had been dumped into a bowl rather than drained first. We did complain on the night and they did refund our couple of drinks we had. I don't think we would be returning or recommending any time soon sadly.

Drinks bit expensive but great atmosphere

We hosted a baby shower at the bay this morning, we had the private function room which is done out lovely. All the staff were so accomodating, helped us dress the table, and made sure we had enough drinks and food.

Visited this lovely venue with my partner on Friday evening to take advantage of the special Tapas / Cocktail offer . The food quality and presentation were perfect and the cocktails "Amazing” . It was such a relaxing evening and we will definitely be returning.

I wrote about this place under the former ownership, I had to delete that positive review, this version or chef is just awful, a bad menu, badly cooked, nearly all the food is fried or cold Boards but they can’t even do fried with out burning it, the burger was overcooked flavourless and fatty - how you can make a burger that bad boggles my mind, the chicken strip tapas dish I had was burnt on the out side and pink in the middle

What a lovely evening last night at The Bay . We decided to take the offer of Tapas & Cocktails and we were not disappointed! Lovely relaxing atmosphere and excellent service. The food was delicious and so were the cocktails. Well Done ⭐️

Just back from a mini break & what a little gem of a place we found on Saturday evening. The food here was absolutely scrumptious. Both ordered a burger with fries etc and we were definitely not disappointed. Whilst waiting for our food to be served we enjoyed a pre meal drink and relaxed in this lovely setting. Staff could not have been more friendly and we will definitely e returning on our next visit . Finished off our evening with a cheeky cocktail , simply “perfect” !

Lovely coffee, superb location.

We popped in with the intention of having my a drink after our walk along the seafront but ended up staying for a bite to eat! The staff were super friendly and really tentative and welcoming. The food was all freshly cooked and was perfect, definitely worth the wait just knowing it was all cooked to order. Super tasty and great value, the place has such a lovely feel and atmosphere, we will definitely be returning and would highly recommend a visit!

We ordered three burgers and it took 45 minutes to complete the order. After they finally arrived, the burgers lacked sauce and we had to ask for it and put it on ourselves. Overall, the food quality was not satisfactory - the fries were not even salted. We got offered complimentary drinks, which I'm sad to say, were not really good either. After the meal, the waiter got confused and tried to add the drinks to the bill. Overall, I'm thoroughly disappointed and would not recommend visiting this restaurant.

When I entered we asked for a table and got rejected, someone commented on our looks and said “they look uneducated” and left and we got served worst hot chocolate which tasted like milk and some bare minimum cocoa powder in it. Wouldn’t recommend going there if you are looking for a friendly vibe.

Food was good even though our order was ‘lost’. The staff were pleasant but I don’t think I’d return, after waiting over an hour for our food to be served.

We went in today 29th December with our little nervous dog Flora. Such a dog friendly place, made a big fuss of her, treats on hand and a welcome water bowl after an hour of ball chasing on the beach. For the humans, the food was delicious, we shared half a baguette with extra chips which was more than enough for us as a brunch. The coffee was great and the toilets really clean. A lovely visit and when we get down to Devon again we will definitely return.

THE most perfect and delicious roast I've had in forever. Perfectly cooked and served vegetables, a lovely selection, tasty and fresh. The roast beef was perfect. Pink enough to be tender, very, very tasty served with delicious gravy, roasted crispy potatoes, and yorkshire pudding. Not for the feint hearted. The ladies that serve are all experienced, friendly, and highly professional. A great atmosphere, with fabulous views if the Bay of Lights and the ocean. Delicious.

I liked the service as well as the updated menu. Baked brie cheese is better to take one serving for two. Mussels with a hint of smoke are love.

Myself and my sister popped in for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked but that wasn't a problem at all. We were seated upstairs in a lovely room at a table looking out over the bay. It was perfect. Our food was sent out and I can say it was delicious. We had 2 cocktails which were equally as good as the food. From the moment we sat down we felt at ease, nothing was to much trouble. We will definitely be going back.

First visit but not the last to The Bay. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The menu had three sections, Fish, vegetarian/vegan and meat. Each having a few choices but everything we saw and ate was very good.

Me and my husband visited the bay on Friday 13th Oct for my husband’s birthday and we thought everything was fantastic! all of the staff were so lovely and welcoming and really went the extra mile, nothing was too much trouble and it was a wonderful night out. The food and drinks we had were amazing!!! Thank you!!!! If we are back in Torquay we will definitely be back! :-)

Disappointing. No one in there except us. No oat milk (fridge was broken apparently). Dead flowers in vases on every table. No flowers are better than dead ones. Long wait for 2 flat whites. Girl very pleasant and did apologise. Not quite got it right yet. We will give it one more try for breakfast next time.

Waited an hour and half for two breakfasts, turns out they forgot to put the order in. Went nextdoor for fish and chips, they were delicious.

Decor was smart and clean. Good menu choice including fish, meat and vegi options. Pricing was average for the type of venue and perfectly reasonable for the quality and quantity. Service was a LITTLE slower than I'm used to, given that it wasn't particularly busy (30 minutes between starter and main). It was a bit cold and the lighting was very bright and could have been dimmed to give a more cosy atmosphere. All staff very polite, friendly and welcoming, will definitely go back again to try and different things. We had the sharing board for a main which was a good portion size for 2 people and all really nice. For those that it affects, the entrance to the indoor seating and the toilets are unavoidably upstairs, which means it's not wheelchair friendly for eating-in in the evenings or on a rainy day. (During the day, weather allowing, you could sit at the outside tables and there are wheelchair accessible public toilets pretty much opposite). It was nice to see baby changing facilities in the men's toilets as well as the ladies though. 👍

Have visited The Bay a couple of times. Each time the food and the service has been outstanding. Can't wait to return again!

The bay is a favourite of ours for food and drinks. The staff are all so friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. The gluten free options are all so lovely too and there is plenty of choice. Being dog and child friendly with the beach location makes it the perfect place to visit at any time of the day as a family. We also had a function at The Bay recently which was absolutely perfect with stunning views and outstanding service.

Stunning venue under new ownership and must say Michelle is a delight who takes that extra care and attention to add that personal touch. Sunday roast was amazing and with bottomless roastys what more do you want to help ease into a nice Sunday nap after hearty meal 👌🏼

From the first email we sent enquiring if The Bay could accommodate us for our wedding reception in less than 7 weeks time I knew we would be in good hands. Everyone was so friendly and helpful leading up to our big day. We had upstairs to ourselves, it looked absolutely beautiful when we arrived, the decor is just lovely and the tables looked great. The appetisers of mini quiche, scotch eggs and smoked salmon bellini were delicious, all of our guests were raving about them. Having our own bar and outdoor space was just perfect and we were so lucky with the glorious sunshine. Everybody loved the starters and main courses. The whole evening was so well organised, we felt so relaxed, just enjoyed ourselves and all of our guests have commented on how perfect the evening at The Bay was. We honestly cannot thank you enough, we will be coming back regularly to remember our amazing wedding day!

Gorgeous décor, food, & views. Lovely young ladies looked after us well. Best breakfast EVER thanks to quality ingredients in the hands of a chef that cares. This place shines very bright. One request though: if you're doing superb breakfasts like the one we just enjoyed on a Sunday morning, please get some Big Tom or similar in to mix with a large vodka 😋

Great food just a little long to wait for food and good atmosphere

Was recommended by the owners of our guest house, visited on three nights, every time the food was excellent, the staff very friendly and efficient If you want food that isn't from a "chain" restaurant this is the place to go to in Torquay

What a gem and a perfect find in my recent visit to Torquay. The view was beautiful & the service & food quality certainly complimented the location. Very attentive staff who had knowledge of food allergies and intolerances . Can’t wait to return but in the mean time will be spreading the word !

My husband and I had The Early Bird Menu prior to going to the theatre. Really good value - 2 courses with a glass of Prosecco for £30. We sat upstairs in the window overlooking the bay. The view was amazing and I could have sat there for hours people watching. The food was delicious, I had the Bay Burger followed by ice cream and Rob had the Pork Bon Bons followed by mussels. The staff were all very attentive and lovely. Michelle, we wish you every success with this new venture of yours. We will be back and please reserve the upstairs window table for us!!!!

Came here for our last meal before going back as I was on holidays. Service was good and the lady serving was polite. The food was tasty. We ordered the catch of the day,the mossels the pan seared steak,and the kids meal. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasty. It was definitely the best meal we got on our holidays.
