What a lovely pub in a gorgeous location with that Cricketing heritage. Visited The Bat & Ball with friends that have recommended this place for a long time. The location is really scenic and the pub is superb, so clean and the staff are super friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home right away. They have a lovely selection of drinks and the food menu is brilliant with something for all tastes and budgets. The food we ordered was really tasty and good portions. The prawn starters were amazing, well done to the chef! Highly recommend and again big thanks to the owners / staff for a great chat and being so kind and welcoming. Will be back for sure.

We visited today for Sunday lunch a party of 6 including 2 grandchildren (2 and 5 years old). After ordering and paying (!) we waited for 53 minutes for the food to arrive - actually it needed a reminder, and even then my son's roast pork was forgotten and had to 'plated'. The food was very poor - not that anyone came to ask - with the veg tasting like it had been made at 8am and kept warm in a steamer. My potatoes were uncooked in the centre. The whole experience was reminiscent of school dinners from the 1960s. I'm still astonished, 8 hours later.

I recently visited The Bat and Ball Café near Hambledon Vineyard, and it was an amazing experience! The café offers a stunning view, especially from the back area, which adds a peaceful touch to the atmosphere. We ordered coffee and fresh juice, both of which were refreshing and reasonably priced. The pub has a serene vibe and offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. While we didn’t try any food during our visit, the overall quality of the place seemed excellent. I was particularly impressed by how beautifully the backyard and front yard were decorated – it’s clear a lot of thought went into creating such a charming environment. Highly recommend.

Dropped in for an evening meal. I started with an excellent pint of HSB (very well kept and just the right temperature) followed by a sirloin steak with garlic butter sauce, roasted shallots, triple cooked chips, a field mushroom and a thyme roasted tomato. The steak was generous in size and cooked as ordered - medium rare, tender and juicy to eat, but had little chargrill flavour. The tomato didn't have any discernible thyme flavouring, but I can't say it detracted from the meal. The chips, however, were truly outstanding, really crispy on the outside and fluffy in the centre. Great service from all and a lovely atmosphere. Popular even in mid-week. Nice to see a pub retain some age related patina these days. Plenty of cricket memorabilia on display. Overall, a lovely pub in a great location, the views are superb. Recommended.

On the back of a friend recommendation, we drove out on a Sunday to try the roast. All went to plan until we saw Pie on the menu...at which point all bets were off and we went full send on pie, mash, veg and a killer gravey. The best two pies I suspect we have ever had... mine a rich steak pie, and Lisa, a chicken, ham and leak...rammed full of flavour and encased in a thick crisp pastry....need I say more! Let's not forget the excellent service either. We will be returning very soon....

We've had a few good meals here, but Sunday roast was disappointing. Overfilled plates, and Yorkshire covered up most of the plate (which some people would love). Presentation not good and beef looked delicious, but disappointingly tough. We'll stick to board specials and midweek meals. Atmosphere here very good.

The Bat and Ball is a fantastic Fuller’s pub set in the Hampshire countryside. The staff are always welcoming, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. The bar area is cosy, while the restaurant offers lovely views across the Downs. The food is consistently good, featuring the classic Fuller’s selection with some unique variations. Great pub and service was good but the food is nothing special. Had the prawns for starter, a little on the tough side, served with a shop bought slice of white bread, which came with a £2.50 surcharge! Ordered the cottage pie for main. Again it was OK but something you would knock up at home mid week, even down to the add water gravy. It's a Fullers pub and if you eat there, sadly you can tell.

Wonderful Sunday lunch. Came in late on Sunday evening and had a great meal with the family. It’s always a worry coming late on a Sunday but these guys remained professional throughout after a (no doubt) busy weekend and the food quality was second to none. I had prawns (one of the specials) which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Honestly couldn't fault it. Also really nice staff and dog friendly. Our dog can be a bit nervous of other dogs (and there were dogs at almost every table when we went) but the staff made us feel very welcomed and let us choose a good place to sit to suit her, and actually it all was totally fine, which I'm sure probably does have something to do with the nice atmosphere here. I wish we hadn't been so full from our mains because the desserts sounded very tasty. Maybe another time. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!

The Bat & Ball is an iconic place, home to cricket rules a lovely place to sit and watch a match with a drink in the evening. Helpful staff and good selection of food and drink. There is no denying this is a beautiful olde world traditional pub with a welcoming fire on a cold, wet day. We had booked for lunch and on arrival were told there was a waiting time for food, unsure why because it wasn't particularly busy. The group on the table next to us gave up and left after a 45 minute wait, we hung on. I appreciate everywhere is expensive these days, but this is pub grub, cottage pie, faggots, burger and chips (biggest bugbear is the use of triple fried chips when they are not homemade) very basic, unexceptionable grub costing upwards of £15 a lunch, add your drinks on & for four of us it was over £80. Due to the waiting time we expected maybe a small deduction by way of apology? We do pub lunches with our friends on a fortnightly basis, this was by far one of the most expensive and we won't rush back.

A totally great experience. First off, I like the booking system, we arrived a few minutes early and were seated straight away. No hanging around waiting for a table. One of the wait staff was with us quickly to get our drinks order. This was followed up with ordering our food. The food arrived, and was wonderful. My wife commented that her veg was the best she’d had.. With my steak and mushroom pie was equally delicious, the inclusion of star anise was a lovely touch. We went for the Peanut and chocolate tart off the specials boards, a great choice. Lovely friendly staff, attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended.

We came here for a family birthday and the waiter spilt coke all over my wife's new clothes. Literally top to bottom. She went to the bathroom and had to borrow a jumper. The waiter was apologetic, of course, and then the food arrived, which was all fine from there on. We then got a bill upwards of nearly £200 and not even a service dicount or free round of drinks or drink as a sorry. We did not want to make a fuss at the time as it was a special occasion, but we all felt upset and disappointed, so we won't be returning. To add, the manager did come over to check but showed no empathy. Where the waiters at leady did.

This dog friendly pub provides a warm welcome and roaring fires ( we called 30 minutes ahead to secure a table) The menu offered a good selection of pub favourites. We started with some delicious marinated olives. Mains were Fish and Chips with minted, crushed peas and Gnocchi with blue cheese, bacon and pine nuts. Both of which were delicious. We had buffalo milk ice cream for afters- do try the salted caramel flavour. Our server was really welcoming and attentive. The pub itself is a shrine to cricket history and well worth a visit. There's quite a few options for coffee in Winchester, the usual "High street" chains and a few independent specialty Cafes and bakery-type establishments. Just away from the main drag and off The Square (near the Cathedral) this place was a nice surprise. Sadly I only had time to visit for coffee (the food menu looked really good) but can certainly recommend. Really friendly greeting from the staff, I got a nice seat with a view across to the Cathedral whilst lot's of other patrons took advantage of outdoor seating on a sunny day. Order taken efficiently, the coffee was excellent and the atmosphere inside and out was really pleasant. I will certainly visit again!
