First time visiting, wonderful reception on arrival, just everything spot on, co-insided a great dog walk before our lunch, Chris and all the staff were fantastic and food very tasty indeed, my wife left her scarf behind and chris ran to the car park to return it! How kind, looking forward to a return visit, sooner than later hopefully! STEPHEN LANGLEY.

Wonderful Sunday lunch. Came in late on Sunday evening and had a great meal with the family. It’s always a worry coming late on a Sunday but these guys remained professional throughout after a (no doubt) busy weekend and the food quality was second to none. A quintessential British pub with great good, and a variety of draft beers and varied wine list. The roasts were one of the best I’ve enjoyed in a restaurant. Highly recommended, the staff couldn’t be more attentive.

I had prawns (one of the specials) which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Honestly couldn't fault it. Also really nice staff and dog friendly. Our dog can be a bit nervous of other dogs (and there were dogs at almost every table when we went) but the staff made us feel very welcomed and let us choose a good place to sit to suit her, and actually it all was totally fine, which I'm sure probably does have something to do with the nice atmosphere here. I wish we hadn't been so full from our mains because the desserts sounded very tasty. Maybe another time. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!

Barstaff are somewhat short and inpolite, food (pie and mash) was a 5$ pie on 1$ of mash for a princely $40... lasagne, not bad but food generally unremarkable, with an exceptional price.. not exactly appealing or drawing us back.

The Bat & Ball is an iconic place, home to cricket rules a lovely place to sit and watch a match with a drink in the evening. Helpful staff and good selection of food and drink. The prices are expensive but this is down to the fuller's ownership. But I can't fault the quality. The outside area has wonderful views of the countryside. Parking is fairly large but can park along the side road.

Went for a roast dinner aat the Bat and ball but to be honest it's was slightly lack lustre. The roast was not particularly great. Non cheesy cauliflower cheese. Bit of aa soggy Yorkshire pud. Carrots and parsnips were cold aswell. The meat was quite nice once I had cut the massive lump of grissle out of it though. Service was extremely slow and they served up a desert with the wrong icecream for some reason. On a positive you can take your dog into the restaurant though. There is no denying this is a beautiful olde world traditional pub with a welcoming fire on a cold, wet day. We had booked for lunch and on arrival were told there was a waiting time for food, unsure why because it wasn't particularly busy. The group on the table next to us gave up and left after a 45 minute wait, we hung on. I appreciate everywhere is expensive these days, but this is pub grub, cottage pie, faggots, burger and chips (biggest bugbear is the use of triple fried chips when they are not homemade) very basic, unexceptionable grub costing upwards of £15 a lunch, add your drinks on & for four of us it was over £80. Due to the waiting time we expected maybe a small deduction by way of apology? We do pub lunches with our friends on a fortnightly basis, this was by far one of the most expensive and we won't rush back.

A totally great experience. First off, I like the booking system, we arrived a few minutes early and were seated straight away. No hanging around waiting for a table. One of the wait staff was with us quickly to get our drinks order. This was followed up with ordering our food. The food arrived, and was wonderful. My wife commented that her veg was the best she’d had.. With my steak and mushroom pie was equally delicious, the inclusion of star anise was a lovely touch. We went for the Peanut and chocolate tart off the specials boards, a great choice. Lovely friendly staff, attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended.

We came here for a family birthday and the waiter spilt coke all over my wife's new clothes. Literally top to bottom. She went to the bathroom and had to borrow a jumper. The waiter was apologetic, of course, and then the food arrived, which was all fine from there on. We then got a bill upwards of nearly £200 and not even a service dicount or free round of drinks or drink as a sorry. We did not want to make a fuss at the time as it was a special occasion, but we all felt upset and disappointed, so we won't be returning. To add, the manager did come over to check but showed no empathy. Where the waiters at leady did.

We were recommended this pub as a great lunch stop halfway through our South Downs Way walk. We're so glad we visited. This dog friendly pub provides a warm welcome and roaring fires ( we called 30 minutes ahead to secure a table) The menu offered a good selection of pub favourites. We started with some delicious marinated olives. Mains were Fish and Chips with minted, crushed peas and Gnocchi with blue cheese, bacon and pine nuts. Both of which were delicious. We had buffalo milk ice cream for afters- do try the salted caramel flavour. Our server was really welcoming and attentive. The pub itself is a shrine to cricket history and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

We thought it was good but no more. The staff were very polite and attentive. Excellent sourdough (although would of been nice to be included on a £49.95 for 3 course lunch) and cracking pigs in blankets. Cured trout was a lovely light starter. Beef fillet although accurately cooked lacked the wood fired characteristics. A fillet really doesn't have enough time to get flavour from the wood fired oven due to its size. Other larger cuts of beef with some fat would be a better choice. Accompanying veg were ok but the cauliflower cheese again lacked any of the advertised 'wood fired' flavour and cheese sauce a little thin. We also thought this recently when dining in the Avenue restaurant what a shame there are no real local sparkling wines listed. Yes Ridgeview is in Southern England but some 70 miles away. You've got excellent quality producers like Black Chalk, Hattingley Valley, Louis Pommery, Raimes, Candover Brook and The Grange all within 10 miles.
