The Bat and Ball in Newham

I arrived around 2.45pm, my booking was for 3pm. I walked into the venue and spoke to the bar lady who told me to go upstairs and speak to one of the hosts. I went upstairs and told the host that I was here for karaoke. She told me that I had about 10mins left before I could go in but to head back downstairs and talk to the other host by the front door who would take me to my room on the other side of the venue. So I headed back downstairs to speak to the other host who told me I had 3 mins left to wait. Whilst waiting by the host stand, I realised I'd been waiting for longer than 3 minutes, so I asked the host if the room was ready, (perhaps the guests before me were still in the room), it's after 3 now and no one has come back to me to take me to my room and I've paid for an hour. So she took me to the private booth and clocked in 50mins. I asked if the time could be changed to an hour as that's what I booked and paid for, she said no because its from the time we got to the room and there's another booking after me but she could come back in 50mins to extend it to now 7mins as I had lost an extra 3 mins of time, which she did not do. She was agitated that I asked this and left whilst I was still talking to her. Whilst my guest was singing, I was lookin for the second mic for myself, turned out that the host left me and the guest with only one mic between us, when I saw her test for 2 downstairs. During the session, the door kept opening, which made my guest loose track of the song, which we were not happy about. This happened a few times distracting us. Coming to the close, we were unable to finish our last couple songs as we were only able to sing half of them, just so we could at least sing a bit of each song before the time ran out. Overall, the singing part was fun, just disappointed in not having my full booked and paid for hour, that the service provided by the host wasn't all the way through pleasant and the opening of the private booth door from the guests waiting to come in before our time was up.

I always liked this place but what happened to it? pouring all the drinks into these reusable plastic jugs and glasses it was just awful, it didn't look hygienic

Poor service - we took the match day into account but paid for 1hr and was only given around 50 mins at full price because staff couldn't find the mics and set us up until 10mins into our time.... We requested and paid for a full hour, but was told a manager would discuss that with us - never showed and time cut off short. Shame after how much we spend there taking clients on match days.

Loved our food! I got the pork dog and loved it. We held our friends surprise birthday party and loved how friendly and involved the team were. Rachel served us on the bar and gave us the BEST cocktail recommendations! Can’t wait for our next party here!

Rude security guards who took 3 packs of my cigarettes.

We were a large group booking, but the team looked after us really well and could not have been more helpful in terms of getting the food pre-ordered to serve us quickly. Food was great, and we would definitely come back again. Thank you!

Appalling service from staff. Reservation booked and confirmed by email well in advance. We turned up and they couldn’t find our booking, great start. They plonked us on the end of another table, which we weren’t happy with. A couple behind us moved so we moved to a nicer table, we were asked to move as that was for 4 people, even though the or previous users were a couple. They moved us to a squashed table in a dark corner. We ordered food using the bar code, food was quick and not bad. They forgot our drinks and even though I asked two staff members was told it was on its way. I went to the bar and our drinks were sat there. The manager or supervisor ( who is rude and arrogant) shoved a piece of paper on our table saying, this has been reserved from 7.15pm. At 6.55pm we were told by a staff member the people who reserved this table had arrived (20mins early) and we had to leave our table even though we hadn’t finished our drinks. Outrageous !!! - I argued this point with staff and was told, oh you’re welcome to stand at the bar. Why the hell would I book a table if I wanted to do that. On a separate note … there was a pissed up Chelsea fan shouting and screaming the whole Game, he broke a light and ruined everyone else’s evening but was allowed by staff to sit there and carry on getting more pissed up. A poor experience and I would never return or recommend this company. The venue is lovely, the staff need serious training.

Popped in here for a quick drink, staff and security staff friendly and polite. Will definitely revisit.

Food was tasty and staff helpful

I booked a reservation on Google and I specified in the notes to have a table in the sport live floor. Arrived at the pub apparently my reservation was for the dining floor and the blond girl at the entrance was so kind to find a solution for us and move us upstairs. After a few minutes a really rude black guy came to the table asking who gave us the permission to seat there and what was the name of the colleague that moved us upstairs, assuming we knew her name (?) after he starts to shout in the radio asking who moved us, telling off all his colleagues, was so inappropriate and was making everyone on my table feeling uncomfortable. If I have to be honest, I understand the situation and if he was asking nicely I could have also take in consideration to move from the table. After that initial table drama also we faced app issue for order food at the table, it wasn't working so we had to order with the waitress. We finished dinner and we were still waiting for the drinks, apparently there was a problem with the system (?). Overall was a really bad experience but I think is the nicest place in stratford and they should do really something to improve their service.

At the time of booking i had requested table for 6 people only had four bar stool chairs lay the out my table (no:118) on the request form it asks if you want drinks or dinng table i ask for dinng the table we were given wasn't ideal for eating at i know it was a busy time no number of staff approach to see if very was to our liking or see to we if we wanted more drinks or order any food we either had go to the bar our self's or approach a member of staff also position by the stairs on the 1st floor wasn't ideal either

Huge, modern bar with various levels. Was keen to play table tennis but it was cramped, poor lighting and you have to be wary of people walking past. Darts was expensive too at £10 per person per hour.

We arrived today at Bat and Ball and got told we had to leave as the person I was with was 17 years old whereas I am 19 years old. On the website it clearly states anyone under 18 is welcome to do any activity up to 8pm as long as they are with an adult (over 18). We then got told “you need to be her parent, you will need to leave”. So you’re telling me a 17 year old can play table tennis and darts with her parent but not with someone who’s a friend that’s over 18? It baffles my brain and was a wasted hour and a half travel for us. I get and respect the rules but the fact it didn’t state “you need to be her parent” like we was told made me think it was okay to come. I’m more disappointed at the time it took to get to Westfield and the cost of getting there to get turned away

A really lovely place to come in and watch football, have a drink, and relax with friends. The atmosphere and vibe are excellent. I'll be back soon!

Had a table booked, great service, food delivered quickly and was good quality

Absolute disgrace. Booked a table for my family. Phoned twice and sent two emails to make sure there was no issues with us not being West Ham fans. Reassured by the fact their website said it wouldn’t be a problem. Turned up, not allowed in. My son was in tears. Heartbreaking that they treat people like this. Still, battered them 2-0 and noticed it was empty on the way out. Apparently they do pizza.

Experience was good, the chicken burger we ordered was quite burnt around the edges and quite hard.

Very good venue, we enjoyed the Karaoke which we pre booked, and although the Karaoke room is quite hot it did not deter from our enjoyment as we were a small group of 4. Overall the bar and restaurant area was pleasant as were the staff and the security door staff were a pleasure.

A nice meal on our way to an event, was seated quickly and food was relatively prompt. Chips a little undercooked but fish delicious. Rather dark where we were sitting, tucked in the corner but there's much nicer tables if you get there at the right time.

Was disappointed to find that a 12.5% service charge was added to our bill without explanation and we had to pay before we had the food. (to be honest I didn't spot it before I paid so that was my error) Surely the service charge should be added afterwards and then only paid for if the service was 'good' - I also believe that the service charge should be advertised in advance on the menus - nothing at all was showing as I did check - so all in all a bit sneaky - service charges should be mentioned on ALL literature so people know and they have the option to pay or not. I did complain at the bar afterwards and eventually the manager said he would refund it to me - but tbh I couldn't be bothered with the aggro.... but hopefully he knew of my disappointment - apart from that our food was fine.

Service was unusually slow and waited over 30 minutes for drinks orders to arrive.

After spending 2.5 hours and a considerable amount of money, a reserved sign was slapped on our table and we were told we had 30 minutes to leave. When we argued, we were told by one member of staff that someone had made an online reservation and our table was mistakenly listed as available. Not our fault surely? Another member of staff blatantly lied and said the table had been booked before we arrived. Not true, because we were shown to the table by a security guard. Clearly we were being thrown out in favour of someone the staff knew. We decided to leave rather than spend any more money in a place that would behave in such a shameful manner. First and last visit. UPDATE: The manager has replied to say that every seat was fully booked from the morning. As stated, on arrival we were shown to the table by a security guard, who told us we could have that table because it was not reserved. It had no reservation sign on it, whereas the tables either side did have reservation signs. So our table was NOT reserved. In order to be "reserved" it would need a "reserved" sign on it. Maybe somebody SHOULD have reserved it, but they failed to do so. The course of action open to the staff was to apologise to the people who made the reservation for failing to reserve their table and find them another one. The available course of action was NOT to throw out paying customers. The mistake was theirs, not ours. The reserved sign that was slapped on our table after 2.5 hours had no name on it. All the other reserved signs did. Strangely suspicious if it had been reserved since the morning. One member of staff told us the table had been recently reserved online and that the system had failed to mark our table as taken (by us). Another member of staff told us the table had been reserved since before we arrived. If so, why did it not have a reserved sign when we arrived like all the others? Whichever one is true, the fault was not ours. Either we were thrown out in favour of someone else, or the staff failed in their duty to reserve a table and should have explained that mistake to the person who reserved it, rather than embarrassing other customers by asking them to leave. NOBODY is going to accept being given half an hour to get out if they are not told IN ADVANCE that the table is reserved from a certain time. We were not told. Anyone who disagrees with the above should not be running a bar.

I visited Bat&Ball last weekend with my friends, had fun and I loved the environment. Anushas' service was professional and helpful. I would love to go back there and have a good time with my friends.

I just hopped into this place and no regrets at all...Food was lovely, service by Anusha was fantastic. Gorgeous place to hangout if you are around Stratford. I highly recommend

I had such a great time at this bar. The food and service were great. We were there to watch the sport and it’s the perfect venue to do that. I would definitely recommend this place!

Went here to watch the football with some friends, specifically the Arsenal game. We approached the security asking if there was a table available as we were walk-ins, to which the security responded by personally escorting us to a table - reassuring us that the table hadn't been booked and we were okay to sit and order. We proceeded to have several rounds of drinks and several plates of food, thereby spending quite a bit of money - only to be told by a server who slapped a reserved card down onto the table 30 MINUTES before the Arsenal game was meant to start, that the table was reserved and that we had to leave within that time. We didn't even get a chance to react. By the time we fully grasped the situation, we asked two different servers what was going on and were consequently given two different answers. One clearly lied and said that the table had been booked prior to our arrival, while the other admitted that as the reservation was made online, the reservation system had put them on our table not knowing that it was already occupied. Either way, I don't see how that was our problem. We were kicked out due to their own poor management, were treated like it was our fault, and we definitely won't be coming back.

Upon arriving we were given a table that had no reservation— ideal for us as walk-ins. The staff seating us mentioned that there was no booking on this table so we assumed we were welcome to stay. First sign something was off— the brunch menu (available allegedly from 11AM-3PM) was on the table, but when we tried to order, the waitress told us bluntly that it wasn’t available. We ordered something else from their normal menu and moved on. The food that did come wasn’t anything to write home about, but we let it slide. We had several rounds of drinks and then they slapped a reserved sign onto the table— saying that we had to leave in the next half hour. When we asked the staff about the booking they couldn’t get their stories straight. One staff said “the system booked the table by mistake”, another said that the booking was made after we had sat down at the table (meaning they accepted it and were willing to kick us out of the table). There wasn’t a booking prior to us sitting down initially so it’s a pretty poor management mistake. Needless to say, won’t be back.

Went here before an international friendly game at the London Stadium. I'd presordered food and drink. The fish was cold in middle, but it was changed. Got everything I'd ordered so avoided the queues, so I was happy.

Alan was my favourite bartender in the whole bar, very accommodating and fun to chat to!

I recommend visiting. A colleague choose Bat & Ball for their leaving drinks largely due to the location. Very easy to find even for someone (me!) who gets easily turned around and isn't fond of crowds. The venue is building is larger than I expected and has a nice atmosphere, i enjoyed the clever lay put and high ceilings which even when busy still feels as if there is room to breath. The staff were great, approachable and welcoming. They never seemed to be hovering yet managed to be there if anyone needed them. Toilets were a little hard to spot however as staff were so diligent and helpful I didn't actually need a sign. I would recommend and will visit again.
