Quirky place with a great bartender, who joined us for an intimate conversation about life, love and family. Cocktails were en pointe, extremely flavorful.

Went for food they had a Sunday roast on which was amazing

Nice place with great decor. Been in a number of times and enjoyed a few cocktails or a pint. Kinda generic chain pub but staff were great.

If you want a classic cocktail in Leith a little late at night, this is the place. To me, it's kitschy and a bit silly with the steampunk sort of idea, but the drinks are done well. It's a little hit or miss with the friendliness of the bartender, but the other staff are all good. It's a pretty big place, but most times, we felt like the only people there. But honestly, I asked the barman for a proper Sazerac, no other info, and he made me the perfect one. He really knows his classics and does them very well. I feel like any of the standards would be a good choice here. It was a bar we hit up multiple times because it is consistent, open late enough, and has a good selection of drinks.

I attended along side 3 others for a girly afternoon tea. I booked this online. Received confirmation really quickly and then had to change the date of the booking. Again this was all done early quickly and communication from the company was great. On the day, our table was ready for us, the front of house was able to seat us straight away on hearing the name, no checking the system! They knew exactly who they were expecting. The food was tasty. Wraps instead of sandwiches were a change and we really liked them. The cakes were all really tasty however I did expect more home made cakes for this type of restaurant. Whilst here I had a look at the Christmas menu which looked amazing. I am hoping to attend again soon to try something different.

Very good service, food and cocktails! Would go back whenever I arrive to Edinburgh again! You could sit indoor in a very nice atmosphere, or outdoor ind the sun.

Magical place, very friendly staff, tasty coctails

Food was amazing, we arrived after they were meant to have last food orders. It they allowed us to eat and gave great customer service. Ross Baillie looked after us and his enthusiasm and customer service was great! Keep being you Ross!

Stumbled across The Barologist when out with friends in Leith and WHAT A FIND! We had the best time, great atmosphere and the staff were so helpful and friendly. We had cocktails and tried as many as we could from the menu - all were delicious. The stand out for me was the Flat White Martini - stunning. Extra bonus that you can send a picture to the team and they will print it on your cocktail for you. Just amazing. Great experience.

Won't eat here again !! 1st time after visiting on business for many years. Fish+chips treat ... though it wasn't very nice at all, quite greasy. The "large" portion is child size. Won't make same mistake twice, anywhere else beats this on food !!

What a lovely place. Down to earth, hearty food in a good portion. Nice and fun staff thaf looked like they were enjoying themselves. The theming of the restaurant was very cool and the drinks menu made me a bit sad I don't live in Edinburgh.

My husband had his 40th party in the barologist. We all had a lovely evening. On route home I realised we left our keys in the bar(our own fault). We called and a member of staff said he would wait until we got there as we were 10 mins away. He didn’t wait and this cost us a lot of money in taxis! When I followed up with the manager he said he would look into then began ignoring my messages! Really disappointed in the customer service at this establishment. If the barman had no intention of waiting that was all he had to say rather than sending us on a wild goose chase. The manager asked for my call log etc for the evening of the incident which I sent. He could have done the right thing and got back to us instead being sent on a second wild goose chase by the bar. I don’t normally leave reviews but this was Sad and disappointing end to our evening. Unfortunately it was handled incorrectly by staff and management.

Was a very nice afternoon tea. Wraps were served but I would have preferred the traditional finger sandwiches or triangle sandwiches. Two layers of sweet treats but no savouries or scone.

We went here on a Sunday night ,.Everywhere else was packed. Very quiet only a few people here. Staff was friendly and as I wasnt that hungry I ordered half portion of fish and chips . Food was okay ,and the wine was nice as well. Seating is in 3 places, front is the best I think,

Green King style food in an admittedly lovely decorated pub. Food was generic chain pub quality. Requested a side order as a starter (bread and olives), it came with the mains. When the food did arrive I requested cutlery, salt, mayo etc. Had to chase a couple of times. Get the salt shaker and its empty. Then have to go looking for a replacement. By the time we could start eating food was cold. Nothing here was a huge problem, just a collection of avoidable small issues. Bang average.

This is a fantastic spot for food and beverage. Huge beverage menu and great traditional food. The whole place has amazing decor. Just what we wanted for a Scottish pub!

Very tasty food!! Lovely interior design with nice comfy booths. Large table at the rear of the pub suitable for events. Outdoor seating area at the back of the pub.

We loved this place! Great service, a variety of well made and delicious cocktails, and tasty food. The venue is really vibe-y and was perfect for our girlie night out while visiting the Leith area of Edinburgh.

Amazing place for cocktails and drinks. Staff are so friendly and attentive, fabulous selection of cocktails. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Leith.

Had Shepards pie with broccoli and green beans (I believe they were anyhow) and it was good. Lovely decorations on the wall and we had a large group so condisdering that we had good service.

Very unusual and fascinating design that draws you in. Find yourself in Edinburgh it's well worth a visit.

What an absolutely lovely place. The staff are great and very helpful and friendly. Would recommend this over other places in the area especially the Granary. Coffee is great and service is really very good. Well managed. 6 stars Barologist and your fantastic team.

Popped in by chance stayed for hours. The gnocchi is good crack. The drinks are a wee bit dear but to go somewhere like a steampunk Victorian dream....it was such a treasure to find.

We had a lovely lunch at the barologist on Saturday 17 Feb 24. The food was so fresh and tasty..also want to say a big thank you to Ross who was our server. Such a nice welcoming guy. You do a.great job!

Fairly quiet for a Sunday lunchtime but food was really good especially braised beef with dumplings

Went for lunch today with family. One of us got the soup of today which was lentil. And one got fish and one got chicken burger Food came fast. Which was good. After couple of spoonfuls of soup. There was plastic in the soup. Fish was mush and oily. Burger was ok little over cooked in some bits

This is the best pub /restaurant in Leith. Food is amazing and so is the drinks menu, there's something for everyone. It has a lovely atmosphere and all the staff have been amazing ... takes dogs and you get a free meal on your birthday... can't get better than that 🤤

Querky place. Great service. Food excellent. The wines are first class esp the Primitivo and NZ Savvy B.

The waitress cheated us and we paid more than double for three drinks. I will never go back so I won't be ripped off again.

Visited in December. This quirky place was full of atmospheric ambience. The fire places were lit, so place was warm and cosy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The meal was tasty with a wide selection of choices. The home cooked Blackberry and Apple Crumble was fantastic.We could not fault the service. Would recommend!!!!!

Cute bar in Leith area! We were passing by and spotted this cosy place which is great for drinks and nibbles. We had an amazing celeriac soup and enjoyed our time by the fireplace. They have many different rooms and our Spanish waitress was super friendly

The atmosphere is great, the food is terrific, and the service is even better - our server Mairi was a delight. 5 stars from us.

When we entered the bartenders were really welcoming. And first round of cocktails was also nice. (I would say both cocktails were tasty but not outstanding). The atmosphere was really nice, and we ordered two “fancy” drinks. However, only one of them was served with the promised dry ice. We were a little disappointed and tried to tell the waitress about it during payment. However, as soon as the money was payed she rushed off even tho my friend was in the middle of a sentence and never came back. We left the bar after that and went to a bar near the Barologist (Where we ordered the same cocktail, this time without dry ice, but way more tasty and with more friendly service).

Visited the Barologist this week. Ryan and Michael could not have been more professional. The service they provided was second to none. The food was excellent and the atmosphere with music playing in was not too loud and provided an excellent background. Would definitely return in the near future.

Waited 45 minutes for food. Problem with the chef I think. Disappointed

Nice pint and okay food. Cheeseburger was dry and not worth the price of £15. Dogs are allowed inside which was nice and there was a good atmosphere.

Had a lovely meal with my wife whilst visiting Edinbugh, being midweek it was a bit quiet, but that doesn't bother us. Started with haggis bon bons and my wife had a sweet potato and chickpea curry and I had the pesto gnocchi, both were delicious. Waitress was super helpful and knowledgeable about the menus, food and drinks.

We have just spent a couple of days in Leith and The Barologist was top of the list to go to, maybe because George Armstrong aka Ulysses G Houston is from our neck of the woods, but it just looked like a cool place. We weren’t disappointed. Welcoming staff from the start, nothing was too much trouble, good selection of drinks, the food was spot on. The themed rooms are amazing and there’s always something to look at or discover. I wish we were staying for longer as it’s definitely a go to place to eat each day. We’ll be back when next in the area.

Lovely food if a little pricey when I ate out with the family

Not great. Very beautiful but the cocktails were more like mocktails and super expensive. Staff were not very nice either

The waitress was extremely rude. Before we ordered a bottle of wine, we specifically asked what time they close to ensure we had time to drink it. Half way through the bottle she came and told us we had to leave as we were “the only customers left”, even though it wasn’t closing time! Dreadful, I won’t be back.

Decent pub and food but I get the impression the kitchen are understaffed, we weren't impressed with the service at all. We were told a big party had booked so we'd have to wait 40 minutes for a sweet. We had also booked and were in before them. Our server didn't have a great attitude either

Lovely location for lunch, dinner, or a drink. The menu isn't very wide, but they have a varied selection of dishes. They have a nice selection of wine, and many drinks. The decour is interesting and funky. They have a fireplace. The staff is efficient, friendly, and polite. I had dinner, wine, and dessert, all really tasty. The portion sizes are satisfactory, but not excessively large.

A fascinating pub. The food was good gastropub standard. Recommend the Scottish Burger including haggis ! Excellent friendly service. Or if you just want a pint or glass of wine worth a visit.

We came in following a quick search near our hotel and are so glad we did. All of the food was delicious and there were arguments about who had the best meal. The whole ambiance, food and service was brilliant. Thank you

Queer friendly! We've had no problems in signalling we are nonbinary to the host and all the waiting staff has been kind and professional with us. Food was lovely we've had haggis bon bons and haddock gojouns ( these were perfect 👌). My partner had a Southern fried chicken burger which is served in a brioche bun and had tasty side cabbage and hand cut chips 🍟 I had the smoked haddock risotto which was nice. Portions of the mains are generous so we didn't have space to try dessert. Drinks are nice, staff is happy to go off menu if they have the capacity. We'll definitely be back 👌🌈

The place is beautiful, really well designed. However, the staff decided to stop the service at 23hs this Friday and turn on the lights and how the tip is changed to the bill we couldn't express our disappointment. Good place, bad service.

We went to Scotland for 3 days, and visited Barologist each day. The food was fabulous 👌 the place is like a maze (which I love) and the staff are nice & friendly. We didn't have to go to the bar because they were so attentive. This is most definitely my favourite place in Edinburgh, even before The Ivy 😊 For the first time ever, I didn't take any photos of the food, I dug in too quick haha.

Food was lovely, staff very attentive. Service was slow & food was ready under hot lights, but the chef called a few times for service, however, when it was served, it was hot. The restaurant was fairly quiet. A cocktail ordered was served in whisky tumbler but had 9 ice cubes in it, so very little cocktail considering the price. I will return even although I have mentioned these issues.

The place that cured my Friday blues! The interior design alone makes it worth a visit (especially for its steampunk influences), but the cocktails make it a must!

Very relaxed vibe inside, with lots of cool ornaments and displays to look at. Great selection of cocktails and the food menu was very creative and substantial too. Very enjoyable experience.

Had a fab night here with lots of great food and drink! Very warm cosy interior with friendly and attentive staff. One of the cubicles has two loos for an even more social trip to the toilets. Drinks are definitely on the pricey side but we were never disappointed. Thanks to Ross and the team!

Horrible waitress was out for my birthday she handled a situation that the other patrons were in wrong with and was very rude to myself and partner. I live locally and will not be back shame as take friends here lots.

I'm quite disappointed with my visit on Saturday, it was busy when we arrived and but we were greeted by a friendly staff. The starters were really nice and couldn't fault them, but the main took ages to arrive and it was not due to fault off the kitchen, as we could see the kitchen from where we sat, both are main sat under the heat lamps for around 15 minutes before staff brought them over to us and by this point the burger was cold and the bun started to go dry out on the top and was soggy on the bottom from the salad, the chips weren't great either. I would say if we had got the main in good time, it probably would have been a really nice meal as you could tell it was quality produce. The cheese board we had for dessert for really nice this was served quite promt from the kitchen putting it out.
